'The naked fat test' trial gets underway in RI

The second day of the Aaron Thomas trial focused on the defense's cross-examination of a key witness in the case against the former North Kingstown coach.

The former student, whom the judge asked not to be publicly identified, reiterated his earlier testimony that Thomas became visibly aroused after conducting a so-called naked fat test when the student was 15 years old.

"Aside from seeing the outline of his pants in his crotch area, what other fact or detail can you give us to indicate why you're telling us the coach had an erection?" defense attorney John Calcagni asked.

"I can tell you what I saw, a bulge," the former student said. "I know what it looks like. I'm telling you what I saw."

Thomas is charged with one count of second-degree child molestation and one count of sexual assault.

Prosecutors allege that for more than 20 years he asked student athletes to disrobe for body-fat composition tests for his own sexual gratification, but the defense contends there was no sexual intent.

Thomas's team says the tests were meant to help the athletes gain a competitive advantage.

Gross

At one point, his defense pointed out there was 'no policy' prohibiting a coach to be with a student athlete who was nearly naked or naked, but then the prosecution called a witness who said there was a policy which prohibited any school employee from being alone in a room with any student at all.

Not a drag queen!

R2 Not defending this coach, who is clearly a sick fuck and almost certainly was molesting these students, but how is the no school employee allowed alone in a room with a student rule supposed to work? Like, a student can't have a private discussion with a teacher after class about a grade? What about guidance counselors? What about school nurses? That seems like an impossible policy.

He's just a regular guy who gets boners while touching teenage boys. Leave him alone!

R4 I have a friend who taught in a RI public school system for 30 years as a high school teacher before retiring a few years ago. You wouldn't believe the crazy policies adapted over the years 'to protect the students' (not necessarily from any sexual or physical abuse), and that contributed to her retirement. I called her tonight when I read your post, and asked how her school system worked.

If she wanted to privately talk to a student 'after class', she would have to bring him to the library. She couldn't do it in the empty classroom, because that was considered 'singling' the student out, and shaming him. Sitting at an empty table in an active library was the solution. She said it was the same when a student had an appointment to talk to a guidance counselor, the counselor would have to leave the office and meet in the library (no shaming). As far as a student wanting to see the school nurse, another student would be assigned to go with him / her and be in the room with the nurse (actually, that was the policy when I went to school in the 70s and 80s). And if a student was sent to the principal's office, the secretary or VP would have to sit in the office, too.

When I was in middle school and high school, my gym teachers would always walk around the locker room as we were naked and taking showers. He would discuss whatever 'game' we played during class, and give us feedback.

[quote] "I can tell you what I saw, a bulge," the former student said. "I know what it looks like. I'm telling you what I saw."

It’s unusual for an athlete to say he was checking out coach’s bulge, and that he’s familiar with what bulges look like.

Don't be obtuse, r7. We all know what a throbbing erection tent looks like. Plus the athlete himself has a dick.

by Anonymousreply 8April 10, 2025 3:47 AM

R7 Probably one of the dumbest things anyone ever posted on this forum.

I don't see a problem

by Anonymousreply 10April 10, 2025 3:44 PM

Shocked! Shocked!

Today they had a parade of witnesses on the stand - the principal at the time, other coaches, teachers, etc. Everyone is shocked that he was conducting these naked fat tests at the time, and they didn't know. Shocked, I tell ya !

I bet.

“Well, I never in all mah life….”

by Anonymousreply 12April 10, 2025 9:51 PM

Was the guy found guilty?

by Anonymousreply 13April 27, 2025 9:27 PM

R7 must be some stupid kiddy diddler.

by Anonymousreply 14April 27, 2025 9:37 PM

Um - he did these as well as endurance and strength tests. You need to be close to naked for body fat measurements.

Is this all the trial is about - taking a caliper test for body fat along the upper thigh and waist area? This is 2nd degree sexual molestation?

And it was voluntary and the kids could keep their underwear on?

I know it sounds like a ruse - but I don't know about this. I've had body fat tests done by coaches and training staff.

by Anonymousreply 15April 27, 2025 10:53 PM

R15, your coaches made you do this naked?

by Anonymousreply 16April 27, 2025 11:36 PM

R16 - no - but he didn't do it naked on all of the students either and the students were not forced to do the exams or forced to go naked either.

He had been doing it for what - 20 years? Years ago, getting naked in front of your coach was no big deal - like weigh-ins for wrestling, which by the way, don't need to be naked as underwear is so light it wouldn't affect results.

A body fat scale also recommends nude measurement - but you can wear underwear if it is tight fitting like a brief. Bulkier underwear like a boxer brief would get in the way - in the same way it would interfere with a caliper test.

I'm just asking - is THIS what the whole lawsuit is about?

by Anonymousreply 17April 28, 2025 1:02 AM

He was making them get naked so he could get off

by Anonymousreply 18April 28, 2025 1:10 AM

R18 - read the articles - it wasn't mandatory and they weren't required to get naked. That's the conclusion everyone is coming to because some student are saying he got a chubby doing it.

Where is the molestation?

I'm not saying there wasn't a creep factor involved potentially - but hell, there were many times in our childhoods with adults seeing us naked that was uncomfortable.

What are the actual charges here? Being creeped out is not a crime. Do I think this was a smart thing to do? No. But crying on the stand because he did a caliper test and you think he got a small budgie from it?

by Anonymousreply 19April 28, 2025 1:13 AM

I played sports in school and do coach ever did that to me.

by Anonymousreply 20April 28, 2025 1:43 AM

Sorry that should say "no coach ever did that to me"
