Jonathan Groff and Karan Soni are being praised for their onscreen chemistry in an emotional and comical take on meeting the parents.
'A Nice Indian Boy,' a doctor introduces his white boyfriend to his Indian family for a rare love story

Sounds like a Hallmark version of Stepehen Frears' My Beautiful Launderette

Waiting for Kash to introduce Lindzebelle.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 8, 2025 8:24 PM |
I'll watch it - interesting take for Groff to be an adopted son of Indian parents. That part of the story seems awfully far-fetched and forced, but when I look up Indian adoptions, there are so few it sounds like it's culturally unheard of.
But the term 'boy' is a bit of a reach when he's 40.

My Indian ex's family considered me his significant other 30 years ago. One of the young nephews matter-of-factly assigned us couple status as much as a 12 y/o could. His father seemed of the opinion, "Well, at least he took up with an upper middle class WASP!"
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 8, 2025 9:40 PM |
Saw it with the hubby. We loved it. Surprisingly good. Groff and the Indian actor have great chemistry. Several laugh out loud moments as well as tear jerking ones. There’s a scene with Groff and his future father in law that made me tear up. Go see it with a friend or loved one. We need movies like this right now.

It's had great reviews. It looks very cute. Here's the trailer.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | April 8, 2025 9:52 PM |
Based on the trailer it looks typical and stereotypical. Easy pass
by Anonymous | reply 7 | April 8, 2025 11:35 PM |
nudes?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | April 8, 2025 11:42 PM |
Is it set on Oak Tree Road in Edison, NJ?

What does Lea Michelle have to say about it?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | April 8, 2025 11:47 PM |
Oh I love “My Beautiful Laundrette”. Gordon Warnecke was so cute. It was a nice movie where being gay wasn’t the primary focus.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | April 8, 2025 11:49 PM |
R7 typical and stereotypical - of what? Like we're drowning in mixed-race gay love stories?
Here's a pro tip: trailers are a specific format - it's a formula. Over half the time, it's nothing near to what the film's about or its true emotional content.
Don't judge buy a trailer - reviews have been really great.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 8, 2025 11:49 PM |
The overanalysis of why "Bros" bombed is ridiculous. It was a shitty movie fronted by a shitty actor portraying one of the most unlikeable characters of all time.

Parsippany, R9.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 8, 2025 11:59 PM |
R13 there's enough silly, cute faggotry in the trailer for 5 movies to make you hate gays and movies
by Anonymous | reply 16 | April 9, 2025 12:59 AM |
R16 - Jesus - make way for Bad Attitude Betty.
Lighten up a little. It's just a gay film. And it doesn't look like it sucks.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 9, 2025 1:18 AM |
It looks predictable and formulaic R17
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 9, 2025 1:22 AM |
Flop.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | April 9, 2025 1:25 AM |
Hey - ATTENTION EVERYONE - R13, R16, and R18 will have you know he does NOT like this trailer. It's formulaic and stereotypical - even though he's never seen it. Yes, he has the power to make decisions about a 2 hr film based on 90 second trailer. Be damned all the good reviews.
Is everyone clear that he believes it is stereotypical and formulaic? Anyone? Ok. GOOD. We apologize R13/16/18 for making you have to repeat yourself so often, but I believe everyone has heard you now.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 9, 2025 2:10 AM |
I'm surprised this is at the movie theatre. I'd expect it to be a streaming movie.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | April 9, 2025 3:09 AM |
R21 calm down! Keep repeating: It's only a movie! It's only a movie!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 9, 2025 3:13 AM |
I got to break this out again - here comes R23 again to piss on everything again.
Damn, bitch, are you always on the rag?
Take your negativity with you -
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 9, 2025 3:22 AM |
I'll give it a look. I like Groff. I didn't know Soni by name, but I've seen him before.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 9, 2025 3:26 AM |
R24 Once again Nellie, calm down. You're just a silly, empty headed, over reactive little queen and you and this lamely titled film deserve one another
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 9, 2025 3:31 AM |
[Quote] I'm surprised this is at the movie theatre. I'd expect it to be a streaming movie.
I'll be surprised if it lasts more than two weeks in theaters. I think it will be on streaming services in a few weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 9, 2025 3:39 AM |
R26 - shoo - be gone Mr. Negativity - you want to spread your misery everywhere. We heard your opinion several times.
I'm over-reactive? I didn't come on here to trash something I haven't seen FOUR times.
You're a miserable old man who pisses on everything and is surprised when people call you out on it. You're probably lonely and in your sunset years - try to be a bit more positive for a change. It will do you some good.

[Quote] I didn't come on here to trash something I haven't seen FOUR times.
R28 No, but you came here to trash someone you don't know 4 times and make assumptions about them because they had an opinion different from yours. Based on your posts I'd say that your intellectual development stopped somewhere around age 10 and I suspect that in high school you were named most likely to die alone.
And that's being positive because you're probably even more shrill and stupid than I think.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 9, 2025 5:42 AM |
R29's name ain't baby - it's NASTY. Ms. Jackson if you're nasty.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 9, 2025 7:05 AM |
🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱you're more tedious than "A Nice Indian Boy"
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 9, 2025 7:29 AM |
I came here to read reviews and opinions regarding the movie but instead after to read a back and forth spat between strangers - completely useless! I don’t understand why two strangers do this - what point does it serve? Neither of you wins! Please stop mucking up every post with bickering.
Back to the reviews please!

It's required by law now that every gay couple be interracial.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 9, 2025 10:00 AM |
It's really not.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 9, 2025 3:47 PM |
R32 welcome to DL and if you wanted to read reviews and opinions why not try the NYTimes, the LA Times or go on IMDB
BTW how many posters have actually seen the movie?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 9, 2025 8:24 PM |
It is on tv and in movies r34. And we all have or want kids, too!
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 9, 2025 10:41 PM |
Wasn't there a straight movie just like this?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 9, 2025 10:51 PM |
Is there a scene of them sucking cock?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 9, 2025 11:23 PM |
R38 Maybe that’s the opening scene. They had to meet somehow.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 9, 2025 11:49 PM |
I am watching this tonight!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 9, 2025 11:51 PM |
Watching it where R40?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 12, 2025 6:59 PM |
Where is this film playing in theaters? It's not even listed in Mojo's top box office report for the weekend of April 11th. Of the 24 films listed #23 is A Complete Unknown which is only playing in 10 theaters, available on streaming services and has been out for over three months.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 14, 2025 1:27 AM |
I think it’s only playing in a few cities. The distribution company is pretty new so it’s hard to find info.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 14, 2025 1:30 AM |
It never played in my area, so I only just saw it tonight. It was engaging and sweet. It would have been better with a bit more R-rated material. The only bare flesh we see is on the wall at an art gallery... More depth than a typical rom-com. Worth searching it out and watching.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | May 24, 2025 2:36 AM |
It's available on streaming, at a cost lower than the usual new releases, but it's also of course on the torrents sites.
And it is certainly worth a look, it's sweet and charming and surprisingly realistic.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 24, 2025 3:05 AM |
R42 It sank without a trace. You might as well be looking for the body of Jimmy Hoffa
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 24, 2025 6:33 PM |
It's not the film's fault it was poorly distributed. The nearest it played to me was over 50 miles away. I wouldn't drive that far for the Second Coming.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | May 24, 2025 8:38 PM |
Is it coming to streaming?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 25, 2025 3:19 AM |
[Quote] It's not the film's fault it was poorly distributed.
So that was the problem. I thought it was because it was mediocre and formulaic like Bros and Red White and Royal Blue
by Anonymous | reply 49 | May 25, 2025 3:43 AM |
Better than both of those.
And it's streaming, yes.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | May 25, 2025 3:45 AM |
[Quote] Better than both of those.
but not less predictable and formulaic while feeling like an extended sitcom
by Anonymous | reply 51 | May 25, 2025 3:50 AM |
And we're so overwhelmed with competent gay sitcoms/love stories so we may as well give this one a pass.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | May 25, 2025 4:47 AM |
I mentioned on the other thread on this movie that I saw this a month ago in NY (where it's still playing at the Quad Cinema) and I liked it more than I expected.
