Sara's "OLD FASHIONED BOLOGNA SALAD."

by Anonymous | reply 17 | April 7, 2025 5:45 PM |
I didn't know her, never heard of her and I was coming here to post something snarky. But reading how beloved she was made me see her as a person and not just a joke and I changed my mind. I feel bad for even thinking it. It just goes to show you what a an impact, a legacy a gentle kind spirit can have on people.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | April 7, 2025 6:24 PM |
I found out about her on here years and years ago. I think the first post was expecting us all to make fun of her, but it didn't go that way. Most of us were struck by how sweet she seemed.
I have been a subscriber ever since. Her hustle was admirable....she tried to parlay her YouTube fame into a career selling Tupperware and Paparazzi Jewelry. She had moxie and charm.
IN the past few years, it was obvious something was wrong. Her house (trailer?) just kept getting messier and messier and more cluttered. Her mother-in-law would sort of just wander around in the background, and Sara's breathing got more and more labored. I still watched every video.
I still make this recipe I learned from her....

Though it’s not entirely unexpected, I just had to take a few minutes to cry about this. She’s been a constant little bit of sunshine in my week for so long.
Sara, as easy as some found to make fun of her, was a genuinely sweet soul who never sank to other’s level and kept her good spirit and positive attitude through it all. She had a talent and joy in sharing her knowledge with the world on YouTube and kept at it far longer than most
My heart goes out to Jamie and Betty and her cats. For all of her problems, the world needs more Saras. I will truly miss her and her videos. I agree with the other poster who said I hope they put up a GoFundMe. I would happily donate for all of the joy and laughter she’s given me over the years.
RIP Sara, I and so many others will miss you. I hope you’re someone right now with your beloved Mamaw making good food and laughing. 🥹🥲

Aw, man! This genuinely made me a little teary. I've always had soft-spot for Sara, since stumbling across a DL-thread one night in July 2018.
I was sitting in a hospital room with my 92 year-old mother who'd been admitted (through the ER) for treatment of a hiatal hernia. I was trying not to panic, but I had a sinking feeling that it was the beginning of The End (it was; she died 12 days later). My brother had just been in town to visit. I'd driven him to the airport a few hours before Mom became extremely ill (vomiting), went to the ER. (point being, he couldn't fly back until the following day).
I was feeling profoundly sad, and alone, when I came across the Sara-thread & went down a little Sara-rabbit hole. While most of her culinary efforts were "not my thing" (to put it mildly), there was something about HER that was so comforting & endearing. The accent, the cadence of her voice, and just her overall sweet, gentle demeanor:
"If don't lahke _____, don't put it in. You make it how YOU lahke."
She was a ray of sunshine, made me smile on a night on a bleak night when I really needed a distraction. (Mary! I know). R.I.P. Sara, you were a good soul. Condolences to her family.

Sara looked relatively healthy when she posted this video for "Taco Salad Stuffed Baked Potato" just over two weeks ago.
I mean, she didn't look very different from how she normally looked.
I'm very curious what was causing her to throw up so much, and how it contributed to her death.
It all seems to have happened so quickly.

Did she seem to lose weight during the illness? Almost any chronic/terminal illness causes weight loss especially if constantly throwing up. Did she ever talk going to doctors and what they said? Or did she ignore it?
I have a friend who was very MD phobic and never had a doctors appointment in her 40s and 50s when I knew her. She was very obese and had a poor diet. I suspect she didn't want to hear the first thing the doctor would say and she was a controlling person. . She passed out at work one day and was transported to the hospital. Lab work and MRI found terminal cancer.

If she had some sort of intestinal blockage, that might explain the vomiting. People who are vomiting a lot can also aspirate vomit, and get a particularly horrible kind of pneumonia which is often fatal.

Years ago, she had some sort of pneumonia and was hospitalized for many months.
A (very gay) YouTube friend she did a few collabs with gave a report on her during her treatment.
My memory may be faulty, but I seem to remember him saying she had to be suspended from the ceiling face down for a few weeks. I can't remember why.
I also remember it was reported on here with a few responses you would expect.
Am I making this up? Not sure.

It's astounding to me that an adult would make the beverage shown at R84. Then drink it. Then wonder why she was obese and unhealthy.
And considering her opening comments-- "I'm always doing my waters", "This is my lunchtime water"-- this was apparently an everyday thing, multiple times a day.

by Anonymous | reply 89 | April 9, 2025 5:57 PM |
Hm, bowel blockage.
Wonder if she had tried to start Ozempic and had that complication. It is a common one for that medication, particularly because the digestive system slows down, and one continues to eat too much. Also, dollars to donuts(!) that she did little to no exercise, which could help alleviate intestinal blockage by speeding up digestion and preventing constipation.
Or it could be she just ate too much and became constipated for too long.

My father developed an intestinal blockage at age 86. The culprit turned out to be scar-tissue in his abdomen from an emergency appendectomy (courtesy of the U.S. Army) when he was 18 years-old. Over time, one of the folds of his small intestine had sort of twisted around it, creating a pinch point. (My point being that they can be caused by a number of things, so be aware if you've ever had appendectomy).

R91...Yes, she stipulated that everything she used to make that drink was sugar free. But as far as I'm concerned, sugar is just one of the harmful aspects of those products. Artificial flavors, chemicals, artificial colors, artificial sweeteners--several times a day! Forget sugar, nothing in that drink was healthful in the very least. All she did was turn that water toxic.
Still, my condolences to Sara's husband & her circle of family & friends. They seemed like a group of people who really loved one another, which made her & her videos very likeable & an amusing watch.

Desireé Mephistopheles Derecho-Hooter Admin · LOTS of people are asking what happened to Sara, so here is the official events as it happened last week and late Sunday evening / Monday morning:
What initially appeared to be a routine stomach virus turned out to be something far more serious. As many of you know, Sara was not one to seek medical attention lightly. However, she presented to the hospital on Thursday, April 3rd, due to worsening symptoms. Her condition prompted an immediate transfer to a higher-level facility for more advanced care.
Upon arrival, she was diagnosed with a bowel obstruction, and her blood pressure was critically low and difficult to stabilize. On April 4th, she was intubated and placed on a ventilator to support her breathing. The surgical team attempted to remove a section of necrotic (dead) bowel tissue, but despite being on five separate vasopressors (medications to raise blood pressure), her pressures remained dangerously low, averaging around 60/39.
Unfortunately, due to extreme hemodynamic instability during the operation, the team was forced to halt the procedure. A temporary abdominal vacuum-assisted closure (wound VAC) was placed, with plans to return to the operating room once she was stable enough for further intervention.
Despite all efforts, including maximum medical support, her condition continued to deteriorate. It was suspected that she had developed sepsis—a severe, body-wide infection—which further complicated her clinical picture. Overnight, one of the vasopressors reached its maximum allowable dose and could no longer be continued due to the risk of fluid overload and other complications. As feared, her blood pressure rapidly declined. Her nurse reported that although she was no longer sedated, she was unresponsive and not regaining consciousness, a concerning sign in the setting of critical illness.

Just for the record, I did call the cause of death way back in r77. I'm somewhat sorry to be correct in this instance. I had an aunt die of an intestinal blockage, but she was in her 90s at the time. Yes, vomiting is one of the common symptoms. Many people don't die of the blockage itself, but the body needs to eliminate, so bad things start happening very quickly and only intensify with time.

by Anonymous | reply 122 | April 10, 2025 12:20 PM |
She absolutely had financial worries, r120. Her husband's illness was a burden. She tried selling cheap jewelry that would break or fall apart and force her to replace it for her customers, costing her money instead of making it. And while her husband lived in Fort Gay per her obit (I assume they meant he was FROM there), she lived in a trailer in Warfield, Kentucky, an isolated and poor mountainous settlement - so she had to drive 30 minutes each way to Louisa Kentucky or Fort Gay WV to get to a IGA that most of you would view as slightly above a convenience mart. Most of her neighbors likely shopped at gas stations nearby and lived on large-sized fountain drinks and packaged foods like bologna and chips. This brings about the kind of morbid obesity we saw in Sara and then the lack of medical access and knowledge leads to untreated illnesses like diabetes , etc. This entire generation of hill folk are dying in their 40s and 50s now, when there parents lived to be 60+ and their grandparents were 80+. It's one of the root causes of Trumpism and now, with Trump, it's only going to get worse as access to government $ goes away. Heartbreaking and maddening.

R127 he was diabetic and had kidney issues. From what I can gather, he had experienced two health scares over the past several years, one around a year ago and one in 2022 (see related GoFundMe link).
They are/were both pretty physically unhealthy, but it seems like they still made an effort to live better despite their limited opportunities/resources.

Aw, I just watched the pizza video and it reminded me of just what a sweetheart she was; seemed genuinely positive and upbeat.
Poor lady.

The most amazing thing is how nice you crusty old bitches are being about her. I watched many of her videos as they seemed to comfort me on some level but I confess most of her food I found rather repulsive. She was the reason I watched, not the food.

She had a kind soul. She genuinely wanted to use her cooking knowledge to help people out. RIP.

Sara was not the only 300 pound American who ever lived, she prepared the type of meals Americans consume.

r135 maybe SOME Americans consume those meals. I never have, and nobody I know eats most of those things.
However, I'd totally make the tortilla pizza.

Food snobs may have scoffed at Sara, but if you watched her you could see she had a lot of knowledge on food preparation. She was probably an avid watcher of America's Test Kitchen. She wasn't pretending to show haute cuisine. She just wanted to show people who didn't like to cook, didn't have a ton of time for it, or had no experience, how to make dishes that tasted good and weren't hard to make.

Someone posted a nice tribute video to Sara on YouTube.

It seems to me you lived your life like a grease fire in the wind.

Let me give Sara some more props- I checked out her Facebook and she continously posted Job Postings and local charitable type organizations (Where you could buy a bunch of clothing for $15.00) Things like that.. Tons of job postings. Her area is truly poor and employment is hard to come by. She always tried to help her community out. That impressed me. RIP- its always the kind ones.

On one of her job repostings (It was a state job) some guy asked Sarah if they would accept someone from Kentucky. She said something like "Go for it! Its worth a try!"
Just a gem.

[quote]This is going to be a long post, but I believe she would want you all to know. What Sara thought was the stomach bug ended up being something much worse. If you know Sara, you know she does not like going to hospitals. Sara went to the hospital on Thursday, April 3rd they shipped her to a bigger hospital. She had a bowel blockage, and her blood pressure wouldn't stay up. They decided to vent her on April 4th and take her to surgery to remove the dead part of her intestine. They had her on 5 BP medicines to keep her blood pressure up. But even with the medicines, her BP was running 60/39.
During surgery, they had to stop because she was too unstable. So they put a womb vac on her. They were going to take her back to the OR to finish up surgery and figure out what else was wrong. But they couldn't get her stable enough. They believe she had sepsis as well. I went down there last night and they told me that they have her maxed out on blood pressure medication and once one of them runs out, her blood pressure will bottom. Well that's what had happened. The medication went out and her BP bottomed. They couldn't give her anymore because it was causing her to have fluid build up. I was also told by her nurse last night that she was not sedated at all, but she was not waking up. She ended up passing away around 1am this morning.
NO donations have been set up.
And please don't believe the other rumors that you hear. I've seen quite a few of them that's what made me make this post. Sara loved each and every one of you. She was the absolute best sister/aunt anyone could have ever asked for. How you saw her online is exactly how she was in person.
We appreciate all of your love and prayers that you have sent.

Goddammit why?!

R145 I wonder why? What would have been the harm in leaving them up?
by Anonymous | reply 147 | May 9, 2025 9:38 PM |
It’s probably too painful for her husband.

Maybe she faked her death and wants to re-emerge as a skinny butterfly.

We'll have to make do with Sinfully Sara then. Which is only a fraction of the YouTube videos she posted in her lifetime. My understanding is that Sinfully Sara were the very first videos she posted on YouTube and when her channel gained traction after the publication of her (in)famous Wanda's Macaroni Salad, she decided to reshoot them with a better gear (camera, computer, some editing software) and publish them on a new channel @SimplySara / @SimplySaraKitchen. Get'em videos before the hubby realizes these are still online.

Very sad; I think I first stumbled across the SS posts during COVID and while one expected serious snark, posters admired her warmth and her attempts to connect with people. For whatever personal troubles she had, you hope she knew the impact she had on people

No offense intended, as I do realize that good things come in all sizes, but when I faked my own death I can guarantee you that my casket was petite.

This is sad. She seemed to be a very nice lady.

I found a more extended list of the videos she published on the WayBack Machine, but you only get the titles of the videos, the thumbnails for the first few ones and the links to the videos just don't work.
Oddly enough, it was not posted by Simply Sara but by another account going by the name Junk Lovers. Was this a stealth sister congregation of the DataLounge, Muriel? Really? Oh, you're terrible, Muriel.
