Japanese unagi is pretty delicious if you can get over the whole eel thing.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | April 6, 2025 4:37 AM |
Favorite is a big reach.
I had a friend who lived in Japan who described eating uni, or sea urchin sushi, as having a ball of fetid garbage explode in your mouth
by Anonymous | reply 14 | April 6, 2025 4:41 AM |
I can't stand the smell.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | April 6, 2025 4:49 AM |

I've always loved crab, and as a PNWer, I adore Dungeness crab. Scallops and mussels are both worthy contenders, too.

by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 6, 2025 9:27 AM |
Alaskan king crab with fresh lemon slices and just a tiny amount of drawn butter.. I love snow crab but it's a lot of work trying to get to the meat. Other faves - mahi-mahi and clams casino.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 6, 2025 9:36 AM |
BBQ baby octopus.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 6, 2025 11:44 AM |
Clams. Scallops poached in milk. Sushi, tuna, shiro, salmon.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 6, 2025 12:38 PM |
Scalloped oysters, seafood chowder at The Maine Diner, some lobster rolls (either cold with light mayonnaise and minced celery or warm with drawn butter , each on toasted split roll), sometimes Fried Oysters or Whole Belly Clams but that’s a once-per-year thing.
This older version of myself will more often have grilled salmon or salmon piccata, and some types of mild white fish grilled or poached with a lighter, refined sauce like citrus beurre blanc.
I never liked lobster in the rough because it feels too much like eating a giant insect. But lobster meat in a pie or casserole is delicious. If you want to dine “old school”, a Newburg sauce over lobster and scallops is a pretty wicked indulgence (maybe for New Year’s Eve). Sherry goes great with shellfish.

It's all from SE Asia, stop eating seafood you stupid twits.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 6, 2025 11:24 PM |
Snow crab legs -- I could eat them 24/7! And even though I have a very successful method of rapid and easy cracking, I figure the cracking alone burns off at least a few of the calories I get from eating them drowning in butter.
Once, in the days of (relatively) cheap AYCE crab places, I, my mother, and my two younger sisters sat down to eat and filled [bold]seven[/bold] of those huge stainless steel bowls with their shells before we called it quits. Now, [bold]that's[/bold] some fressen!
We PA Dutch folks take our eating very seriously. But sadly, I can't eat like that anymore. Glad I did it when I was young!

Striped bass, caught surf casting and delicious but now sadly contaminated with PCBs.

Fried clams.
Steamed Maine lobster (in moderation).
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 6, 2025 11:46 PM |
Salmon is my favorite. Love shrimp and oysters and crab. Hate Lobster. It's like eating a cockroach.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 6, 2025 11:46 PM |
Cod and flounder too.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 7, 2025 7:10 PM |
I pick up a jar of Ma Cohen's creamed herring now and then, but the last one I got was gross. I think they just stirred sour cream into some of their herring in wine sauce and it did not work for me.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 7, 2025 7:21 PM |
R46 Cream herring is such a hard sell to most people. I love it, but I feel like a circus seal when I eat it.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 7, 2025 8:13 PM |
I love surf n turf, scampis and filet mignon
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 7, 2025 8:29 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 52 | April 7, 2025 10:26 PM |
I haven’t eaten good crabs since before the pandemic.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | April 7, 2025 11:47 PM |
A good old fashioned Friday-during-Lent fish fry at any Catholic church in south St. Louis.
Good eatin'.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | April 7, 2025 11:53 PM |
I love almost every seafood except sea urchin/uni and other things with that texture, but my absolute favorite is king crab.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | April 7, 2025 11:56 PM |
R54 What kind of fish is it?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | April 8, 2025 1:10 AM |
R49 Do you buy at the supermarket and then you put them on a cracker or something? I've always wondered.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | April 8, 2025 1:12 AM |
[quote]I pick up a jar of Ma Cohen's creamed herring
You EAT circus performers?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | April 8, 2025 1:41 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 59 | April 8, 2025 1:47 AM |
lump crab meat
by Anonymous | reply 60 | April 10, 2025 7:31 PM |
The best seafood dish I've ever had was char-crusted blue marlin in a restaurant in Creve Coeur. But in general lobster would be my favorite, followed by langostinos, scallops, and Chilean sea bass.
[quote] I had a friend who lived in Japan who described eating uni, or sea urchin sushi, as having a ball of fetid garbage explode in your mouth
I actually find uni delicious if it's fresh. But I wouldn't want it away from a coast where it can be caught. The drop-off in quality as you go further inland is much greater than for fish and shellfish.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | April 11, 2025 12:48 AM |
Raw Oysters (Chicoteague or Hog's Island types are my favorites). Seared scallops, and any white fleshy fish - black cod or Chilean sea bass.
I avoid all the sea bugs - shrimp, crab, lobster - no thanks.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | April 11, 2025 12:53 AM |
Shrimp Scampi
Scallops sautéed in a butter and sage
My Mom's filet of sole...God, I wish I could cook it as she did.
Linguini and clam sauce
Sautéed trout
by Anonymous | reply 63 | April 11, 2025 12:59 AM |
I like nearly all seafood I've tried. I almost always order a seafood dish when I go to a restaurant, I can cook a steak or filet nearly as good as any restaurant, but I don't cook fish very often at home.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | April 11, 2025 1:03 AM |
Flounder, skate, rockfish…
Crab legs…
Steamed or fried shrimp with a good peppery cocktail sauce…
Fried oyster poboys minus the mayo, with lettuce, tomato, cocktail sauce and ketchup.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | April 11, 2025 1:09 AM |
Ah yes, skate is delicious but very hard to find, even in a West coast city where most seafood is readily available.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | April 11, 2025 3:46 AM |
I like crab better than lobster, but I’m probably the only one in the world.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | April 11, 2025 4:19 AM |
R65 - YES - skate is delicious but surprisingly very rare. I just had some last weekend and it was amazing.
But I can count on one hand how often I've seen skate offered on a menu. And I'm not young.
