A Great 2025 Star Trek Voyager Documentary

I learned lots of new facts about the show after watching this one.

I wish it went more into the Kes departure and the 2 Of Breasts arrival tho.

Discuss.
the 2 Of Breasts arrival tho.

The two of breasts — I don’t have such a deck of cards.

Thanks OP. Just put this on, looks great!

It was posted in 2024.

It's a good juicy watch.

Kes = Mayfly.

I've been rewatching lots of old episodes on Pluto which is free for all.

Wonder if this is going to include Lucille Ball, then CEO of Desilu, green-lighting two pilots for ST? The first pilot was spliced into a two-part ep.

She was dead years before this show was created, so probably not.

Whoa - thank you for posting this, OP. I had heard mention there would be a documentary on Voyager but forgot all about it and didn’t realize one was out now.

I’m gonna watch this later today.

The one about TNG and writers’ room chaos behind the scenes in the first two seasons with Shatner narrating was extremely interesting too.

I think the best part of Star Trek Voyager is Jerry Goldsmith's Emmy-winning opening title music:

R6 me too!

For my money, the best episode of Voyager was the spoof of Flash Gordon-era serials called "The Bride of Chaotica." It was in black-and-white and the actors understood the assignment: digging deep to overact their various roles, just as in those old serials. It was unlike anything else in the Star Trek parade of shows.

Huge VOY fab, but had to watch this in three sittings, it's so long! Don't love the A.I. slop and all the stock footage, plus there's not a single lower third in it, which seems like Doc-making 101.

I cannot believe they reshot the pilot just because of Janeway's hair ($23 million!), even though it looked completely FINE, if a bit flatter than in the later seasons when she let it down. And my god, what a disaster Bujold was, I had no idea. I just thought she came in for one day only. Just completely in over her head.

The doc was pretty lenient towards Lien, baby was doing and even dealing drugs on the set.

Seeing how it was mentioned in the doc and actually got cited for some facts, I will say this: I was incredibly excited when Wang's podcast Delta Flyers was first announced, but I only managed four or five episodes. They put too much stuff behind the paywall right from the get-go, but my biggest issue was that Wang is a HUGE drama whore, to the extent that I'm surprised he's straight. He blows anecdotes out of all proportion and also tries to make them about himself constantly. That moment when he started crying at some convention over the Kate and Jeri feud, so Jeri had to publicly console him makes me cringe just thinking about it.

Having said that, Mulgrew conspiring with the wardrobe people to not let Jeri go pee when she needed to makes me laugh so much. Just the right amount of bitchy.

I couldn't stand Kes. I couldn't wait until she left. I wanted Kim and Paris to become a couple......but no, they had to go for the fish.

by Anonymousreply 14May 18, 2025 2:32 AM

R13 That might not have been bitchery. Mulgrew's kids hated her show and the time it took her away from them growing up (16-hour days or more were possible). Mulgrew wanted Ryan to have less revealing typical Starfleet outfit (and a more time-saving one to get in and out of) was more of a wanting to see her kids as much as possible each day. The last I heard, her kids still have never seen a single Voyager episode (which I'm sure rattles Kate with it being her crowning acting achievement she'll go down in history for).

by Anonymousreply 15May 19, 2025 4:06 PM

r15 I hadn't thought of that possibility, but yeah that makes sense.

My favourite anecdote of Kate's is when she found out over the phone she got the gig. She immediately commanded the kids and the nanny to fall to their knees, so they could all say a prayer of gratitude to God.

Some Trek fans tried to cancel her over her Catholicism after Roe fell, but she's never once said anything about abortion. I think the usual suspects were – once again – trying to clean up our own ranks instead of going after those that actually made that decision possible. "Purity officers", I call them.
my biggest issue was that Wang was such a HUGE drama whore, to the extent I'm surprised he's straight

I don't know why but this made me laugh until I hurt.
Lien...was doing and even dealing drugs on the set

I believe it considering her past and current behaviour, but actually [italic]dealing[/italic] openly while she was at work? Jesus. Which of her colleagues or crew spilled the tea about that, I wonder?

by Anonymousreply 17May 19, 2025 4:32 PM

I think the tea started trickling out pretty quickly after it became obvious her career was over. After Voyager, she did some voicework for MIB animated series, and then a movie in 2001 (with Renée O'Connor and Debra Wilson!) and that was that. It's such a shame, but drugs will do that to you, I guess.

R16 I hate to break it to you but Kate is anti-abortion (or Pro-life). She has said a lot about abortion. As a feminist, I would log onto anti-abortion websites over the past 2 decades and see what they were up to, and she has come out against Roe (Kate is a pro-life democrat). She was a speaker at an anti-abortion event after it had been revealed she gave up a kid early in her acting career. Scott Bakula also is anti-abortion and was scheduled at the same event. She has slammed feminism in public and has corrected others who have called her a feminist due to her role as Capt. Janeway. These facts have made me admire both of these actors less as time has gone by. I assume both have kept mum on more abortion diatribes due to wanting to keep their careers going in left-wing Hollywood. Kate's SC response on Row falling was more PR stuff than anything else if you asked me.

I loved Kes and thought it was a huge mistake to let her go. The best of Voyager was the best of Star Trek. Though they did have more crap episodes than any of the other series. Any of the two part episodes were as good as any of the movies that were released in theaters.
