This picture of the Ceaușescus being blown away is so satisfying to look at

It was shocking, because there was no attempt to soft-pedal it in any way. No "Oops, the helicopter crashed as we were transporting them." It was literally just, "Here's a video of us giving them a five-minute trial and then shooting them."

Oh, how I wish this would happen to Trump and Musk.

It's an odd article, as it tries mightily to be sympathetic to the Ceaucescus, and seemingly downplays the oppression the dictators wrought upon the Romanian people.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's sympathetic to them, so much as they went out with a whimper for how cruel they were to their own people. And it's kind of telling the people that you would've expected to say "they deserved it & it's much better for our country that they're gone" weren't necessarily sorry, but didn't feel good about it either.

I actually visited the site in 2018 when I was visiting Romania, and there’s something strangely hopeful about it. Like it’s a reminder that no matter how bad things get, there’s an end to it.

One can hope, r6!

I always enjoy strung-up Mussolini and his flunkies.
Elon, we're thinking of you.

[quote] Ceausescu might have suffered the fate of other leaders of eastern European communist nations in 1989 – resignation and ignominious retirement – had he simply upheld socialist ideals that were always likely to fail in bringing prosperity to his nation.

This film is an unsettling look at life under the Ceaușescu regime.
I mentioned it to my Romanian dentist, who told me she knew about it, but couldn’t bear to watch it because she’d had such a terrible experience living Romania during this time.
It’s a great film. Slow but nonetheless absorbing and intense, right through to the end.

The video of that execution used to bee on YouTube.

I saw the video on YouTube years ago. I wonder why it was removed.
Speaking about famous dictators' deaths...
[QUOTE]Muammar Gaddafi was immediately set upon by Misrata fighters who wounded him with a bayonet in his buttocks, and then began pummeling him with kicks and blows. By the time Muammar Gaddafi was loaded into an ambulance and transported to Misrata, his body appeared lifeless: it remains unclear whether he died from this violence, the shrapnel wounds, or from being shot later, as some have claimed.
I think "bayonet in his buttocks" is a euphemism. I've read that this sort of an end is Putin's greatest fear.

"For 24 years they ruled Romania almost in tandem, simultaneously espousing hardline communist rhetoric while living lives of opulence as the Romanian population suffered the hardships and privations that were a common feature of life in the communist nations of eastern Europe."
Which is what happens under every Socialist or Communist regime.

4 Months, 3 Weeks and Two Days is an incredible film. The whole "climax" section if you will was such a nerve-wracking experience. I can't imagine what daily life would have been like there during that period.

I remember coming home from my grandmother's on Christmas night, turned on the news and saw them shot to death. Wikipedia says it was broadcast two days later but I watched it on the 11 news on ABC Channel 7 in NYC on December 25.

YouTube no longer permits violence to be shown on their site. You can show the video but you must put a black box over the actual violent act(s).

Gaddafi died like what he was, a shit house rat. Saddam Hussein's end was more satisfying though. Watching him fall through the gallows hole when he least expected it was sheer joy.

Interesting that Hussein's execution is on YouTube with all of the warnings, but the Ceaușescus' isn't?

In his recent Vanity Fair interview, Sebastian Stan recalls the revolution and watching the execution live on TV when he was seven years old. He’s never been overly revealing in interviews so it was interesting to hear his take on those events, as a child.

They were also fond of gaudy, ornate, fake-gold interiors.

R17 not true. I've seen some sick shit on youtube lately. As in footage of suicide victims with their heads blown apart, actual human vivisections and autopsies...basically you can still see most of the same videos you could see before, they're just demonetized.

I saw the footage in a documentary wise. I got no pleasure, despite their end being more than deserved.
