R164, I already did in r162 and r163. The photo (copy only, original lost) is the only thing to suggest that they ever met, and there are reasonable grounds to believe it's a fake. Even if it is genuine, all it shows is that they met. It could have been a 5-minute meeting and she asked for a photo for her mum and grandma. Andrew has probably met thousands of people in his lifetime. If it's a genuine photo, then Virgina seems very happy to be near Andrew in London.

This whole story about how she was in a serious accident and had only 4 days to live shows that she's very capable of making things up, even dramatic stories. She also said that she is being prevented from seeing her children, which suggests that she has destructive behaviour. I don't doubt she's been through some shit in her life, but she seems to deal with it by trying to exploit situations and making stuff up.

At least one of the young women (forget her name) in Epstein's circle backs up PART of Giuffre's story. She was there when Giuffre met Andrew, though she couldn't prove that there was ever any sex between them. This came out when all those Epstein documents dropped a couple years ago

For the record, I think some of Giuffre's claims are bogus and, despite what some people want to believe, there isn't really a ton of evidence that Epstein ever "pimped out" anyone. Though that doesn't stop people from going on and on about the "Epstein list" as if he kept a list of everyone he committed crimes with.

Andrew was in the worst position, r167. He could never really speak out and defend himself and, when he did, he was ridiculed and the whole thing backfired against him. In a US civil case where the entire media, public opinion and the "system" was against him, he was unlikely to win, so he cut a deal. Giuffre perhaps also felt that if she tried to take things to the limit some things about her might be made public that she would have preferred to remain unknown. People pay to get rid of a civil case even if they are innocent just because that's the only way they can escape from the hellish hole that it's created for them. Civil cases are another bizarre aspect of the American legal system that doesn't really exist in other countries in the same way.

As you say, out of all these women who backed each other's story in the other cases, Giuffre could only find one to back up part of her story, and not in a manner that incriminates Andrew. Ultimately, Giuffre had no evidence to back up her story but in the "he said, she said" American civil case system, and with the climate the way it was at the time, with Me Too and it being imperative to believe everything every woman said, it was an easy opportunity for her - albeit one that she wasn't able to get a complete victory in, finally deciding to come to a financial agreement despite the fact that supposedly her case was so good and she would have won even more if she continued.

Dershowitz is a lawyer and an American lawyer at that who knows the system well and he easily tore her apart. He also has a fairly tough reputation and has no qualms about saying anything, whereas anything Andrew may have said or done would apparently threaten a 1000-year-old institution. It was easy for Dershowitz to come out and call Giuffre a liar and her rape accusations false (especially easy because those allegations were false, as Giuffre herself admitted). Andrew denied the allegations but there's no way he could call a woman accusing him of rape a liar.

Of course he could call her a liar. Especially if there was no evidence they ever even met. Even guys who are guilty of rape call their victims liars. Cosby called his victims liars.

The royals fell for the believe all women bullshit espoused for a while in the US with this one ….and paid big time .

The whole thing was reaching a boil heading into the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. They made it - and Andrew - go away, with money. I'll leave it to others to speculate on the happy coincidence of the timing.

R171, Andrew's exercise of "power" is minimal. He is a man in a position with very limited options in these kinds of situations. He can't really speak out, give his side of things, make counter-accusations against Giuffre. Which is why she zoned in on him. Note that none of the other women around Epstein have any accusations against Andrew. If there was any real evidence he had met Giuffre, she wouldn't have settled.

Of course he met her. And because he’s an arrogant moron, he allowed that photo to be taken. All the others had an inkling of discretion and realized that no one would take the word of an underage street kid over a wealthy, powerful man unless there was physical evidence.

I believe Andrew is a dipshit, but I absolutely do NOT believe he is guilty of raping (by any definition) Virginia Giuffre. She is totally unreliable, and yes, I think wealthy and famous people sometimes settle just to make something go away. This happened during the "you must believe her" time so he would have been considered guilty no matter what he said or did. I just hope that something irrefutable comes out that forces people to realize just because someone claims they were victimized doesn't make it true. I think she may be just that case.
