Treason Thread #75: Springtime for Donald and Vladimir

And now it’s…

Springtime for Donald and Vladimir,

Winter for sanity and brains

Springtime for Donald and Vladimir,

Hope we don’t end up in chains

It’s springtime for Elon and the master race,

Winter for Greenland and Ukraine

Springtime for JD and tyranny,

Hope we don’t end up as slaves

Don’t be stupid, be a smarty, come and join the MAGA party!

Full disclosure: I cribbed this title from something I saw on the internet, it’s too delicious not to use.

OP The song was Springtime For Hitler and Germany and was one of the hits from the movie, The Producers, a Mel Brooks comedy with Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel. It's kind of dated, but I still find it hilarious. But then, I'm an old fart.

The Dow is currently down more than 500 points as core inflation rose more than expected in February and consumer spending posted a smaller-than-expected increase.

Meanwhile, Trump threatened automakers with reprisal if they raise prices in response to his insane tariffs.

by Anonymousreply 10March 28, 2025 3:23 PM

R2, Greenland is selling hats which say Make America Go Away. If people still don't think he and Putin are in cahoots, I would assume they're technically brain dead or, you know, MAGAts.

Musk just said Trump will stop any and all negative talk against Tesla. Musk also told Reddit to remove negative DOGE comments. Trump just "warned" US automakers not to raise prices because of the tariffs. Who the hell do they think they are, besides oligarchs, of course.

R10, I believe consumer confidence is at a 12-year low. He yelled at the fed to lower interest rates as he was instituting tariffs. What is his end game? He has DOGE on the inside crippling our agencies. He had Hegseth stop monitoring Russian a few weeks ago. He's destroying our reputation around the world and in turn destroying our tourism industry. Now we see those like Grassley are talking about legislation which would take away certain powers from district judges. Where does it end and who will put a stop to it?

by Anonymousreply 11March 28, 2025 4:25 PM

Elon Musk has announced he will be giving a talk in Wisconsin on Sunday night ahead of the highly anticipated Supreme Court election but he is restricting who will be able to attend.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) head and senior advisor to the United States president Donald Trump shared that he is limiting entrance to his talk to those who have voted in the election. Elon Musk also said he would reward those who have voted with a large check.

“On Sunday night, I will give a talk in Wisconsin. Entrance is limited to those who have voted in the Supreme Court election. I will also personally hand over two checks for a million dollars each in appreciation for you taking the time to vote. This is super important.”

His next target is Florida. He's, excuse me, his Super PAC has already started dumping money for their upcoming special election on April 1.

Putin says Trump's moves on Greenland have nothing to do with Russia.

R33, it was never about cutting waste. What type of idiots believe a man who says he wants to cut waste yet demands Congress raise the debt ceiling? This cost-cutting crusade was just a ruse to allow Musk entry. All of these agencies being gutted and the endless terminations won't make a dent in the overall budget. The workforce alone - if they terminated every single federal employee, they would reduce the budget by less than 4%.

Their 2025 mantra "Eliminating waste and fraud" is the new "Build the wall."

by Anonymousreply 34March 29, 2025 2:20 PM

Has anyone mentioned Trump's exciting new plan to destroy the U.S. auto industry? It's not just the tariffs. He threatened car industry leaders with unspecified punishment if they raised prices in response to the tariffs.

This shows that he does know that tariffs increase consumer prices. Of course they do. Is he simply trying to overrule capitalism to make himself look good or is there something more at work? This could cripple car production here. No one will build additional factories or hire new workers if they're not making money. Combine this with his hostile attitude towards EVs and it looks as if he's prepared to hand the whole industry to China.

by Anonymousreply 74April 1, 2025 2:24 AM

If DOGE is on its way out no one told this punk. And the shitshow rolls on.

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency is continuing its dismantling of the U.S. Institute of Peace, naming one of its young software engineers as head of the agency after it refused to allow DOGE into the building earlier this month.

Nate Cavanaugh, 28, is now in charge of USIP, a White House official confirmed.

The 28-year-old has seen been interviewing General Services Administration employees during his time at DOGE, The New York Times reported. Cavanaugh also forced his way into the African Development Foundation this month, according to The Times—and did not answer questions from reporters about what DOGE planned to do there.

Cavanaugh is raking in just over $120,500 a year for his role in the Musk-ran agency, according to a Wired report. He has seemingly never worked in government before his time at DOGE.

Earlier this month, Deputy White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly announced that George Moose, the president of USIP before DOGE’s hostile takeover, had been removed.

“George is actually a career bureaucrat who wants to be unaccountable to the American people,” Kelly said at the time.

A daylong standoff at the agency’s D.C. headquarters ended in DOGE workers, including Jackson, gaining entry to the building alongside a police escort. Moose said at the time that Musk’s department had broken in. DOGE denied the claims.

“The only unlawful individual was Mr. Moose, who refused to comply,” the department posted to X on March 17.

The visit came after USIP employees turned away DOGE staffers during an unannounced visit the weekend prior.

Prior to Cavanaugh, Kenneth Jackson, another DOGE employee, was its acting president—at the behest of new board members Pete Hegseth and Marco Rubio.

NOBODY has audited them.... or serviced them and checked the way every fucking American does with his car every few months. So the longer they go unchecked, the bigger the gaps will be and the easier it will be for Republicans to "win".

Same goes with Texas, and now Arizona! after we allowed them to "inspect" the machines in 2021 while nobody else was really paying any attention to what exactly they were doing. We just passed them off as cranks.

FYI, seriously, remember how certain so many were that Ted Cruz was finally gonna be defeated by Colin Allred? A candidate that many felt was even stronger than Beto? Trade isn't Trump's only debacle:

President Trump said this week that Iranian-backed Houthi militants in Yemen have been “decimated by the relentless strikes” that he ordered beginning on March 15.

But privately, DOD admits they have had limited success against the Houthis, despite strikes being larger than what was done under Biden, "and much bigger than what [DOD] has publicly described." Costs are $200 million so far and could exceed $1 billion by next week.

[QUOTE]DOD admits they have had limited success against the Houthis, despite strikes being larger than what was done under Biden, "and much bigger than what [DOD] has publicly described."

Could this be because communications about the attacks took place on the compromised, not secure Signal app and Moscow gave Iran and the Houthis advance notice of the strikes? Hmm. The U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East was in Moscow as Pete Hegseth gleefully cut and pasted top secret classified information from secured DoD computers to the Signal conversation. Remember how the time frame from when U.S. planes were in the air until the bombs were dropped was something like 2 hrs 45 min? Plenty of time to give warning.

Both Israel and Saudi Arabia are extremely eager to get rid of Houthis, albeit for different reasons.

by Anonymousreply 133April 4, 2025 6:40 PM

R130, years ago, Saudi Arabia and various other Sunni-majority countries intervened in a civil war in Yemen. The Houthis are the rebel force in that war; they are affiliated with Iran. It’s a big sprawling catastrophe. The attacks on the Red Sea happened after Israel began bombing in Gaza in October 2023 and it’s significantly disrupted trade all over the world.

[quote]It was the fifth time that Mr. Braun had been arrested since Mr. Trump commuted his 10-year sentence just before leaving office in 2021, which was among a raft of last-minute clemencies granted to those with ties to the president. Mr. Braun’s sentence was commuted after his family used a connection with Charles Kushner, the father of Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law who was a senior White House adviser, to get the matter before Mr. Trump.

by Anonymousreply 146April 6, 2025 12:45 AM

He seems nice...

[quote]Mr. Braun has a troubled history. He was originally indicted in 2010 on charges of smuggling and distributing marijuana. But while out on bail, he engaged in a predatory lending scheme, threatening small-business owners who had trouble repaying high-interest loans, according to suits filed by New York’s attorney general and the Federal Trade Commission.

[quote]In 2019, Judge Matsumoto sentenced him to 10 years on the drug charges after a plea deal. The next year, while in prison, Mr. Braun began discussing a deal with federal investigators in which he would be released in exchange for providing information about the cash-advance business.

[quote]The commutation removed the government’s leverage over Mr. Braun, damaging a criminal investigation that the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan was conducting into predatory lenders. Because Mr. Braun’s sentence was commuted — he was not pardoned — he was released on terms that included not committing more federal or state crimes.

[quote]But Mr. Braun went back to making predatory loans, eventually being banned from the cash-advance business by a New York State judge. In 2024, a judge ordered him to pay a fine of $20 million in the F.T.C. case.

[quote]Mr. Braun has also been accused of crimes that include swinging a pole that contained intravenous bags at a nurse; threatening a synagogue congregant who had asked him to stop talking during services; punching his wife and 75-year-old father-in-law; and grabbing a nanny’s breast as he touched himself.

WaPo: Amid anti-DEI push, National Park Service rewrites history of Underground Railroad

For years, a National Park Service webpage introduced the Underground Railroad with a large photograph of its most famous “conductor,” Harriet Tubman. “The Underground Railroad — the resistance to enslavement through escape and flight, through the end of the Civil War — refers to the efforts of enslaved African Americans to gain their freedom by escaping bondage,” the page began.

Tubman’s photograph is now gone. In its place are images of Postal Service stamps that highlight “Black/White cooperation” in the secret network and that feature Tubman among abolitionists of both races.

The introductory sentence is gone, too. It has been replaced by a line that makes no mention of slavery and that describes the Underground Railroad as “one of the most significant expressions of the American civil rights movement.” The effort “bridged the divides of race,” the page now says.

More administration incompetence. From the very top to the lowly support staff.

Just over a month ago, retired Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster received an unexpected call on his personal cell, four sources told CBS News. It was from the White House and he was instructed by the voice on the other end to stand by for the president.

McMaster, who had served as national security adviser during President Trump's first term and was ousted after 13 months, was surprised to hear from Mr. Trump at all.

Just a day earlier, on March 2, Mr. Trump had lobbed his latest insult at McMaster, blasting him on social media as a "weak and totally ineffective loser." McMaster had also just appeared on CBS' "60 Minutes," where he voiced skepticism about Mr. Trump's overtures to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Putin's willingness to end the war in Ukraine.

Henry..." is how Trump opened the call before launching into the conversation, according to two sources who were not authorized to discuss private conversations.

It was then that McMaster knew this familiar voice was indeed Mr. Trump. But he also realized something else: the commander-in-chief had not intended to call him at all.

McMaster goes by H.R., short for Herbert Raymond. Not Henry.

"Mr. President, this is H.R. McMaster," he said into the phone.

"Why the f*** would I talk" to H.R. McMaster? Trump asked dismissively, and then Trump launched into a scathing critique of his former aide, two sources said.

The call was brief.

Trump on Zelensky: "He's always looking to purchase missiles. Listen, when you start a war, you gotta know you can win a war. You don't start a war against somebody that's 20 times your size and then hope that people give you some missiles."

Trump on sending U.S. citizens to El Salvador prisons: "If they are criminals and if they hit people with baseball bats over the head, if they rape 87 year old women, yeah. Yeah. That includes them. I'm all for it."

Trump on stocks: "We had the largest gain in the stock market in history in every single category last week."

Congress won’t do anything. Five, maybe six, will let DJT slide.

Today, I was standing in line at the small town post office, talking to a black female, senior friend of mine that is employed as a home caregiver. She is a good person, but talks loud, and blurted out a criticism of the guy in the White House for all the awful mess pertaining to governmental services. She said “he’s gotta go”. An older MAGA woman with bleached blonde hair, very heavy and dressed ugly, turned around, stared, and let out a loud grunt. I paused a moment, and said loud enough, this postal facility does not have a public restroom. There were mostly older, white men behind us and in front of us, that heard the remarks by my friend, but they wouldn’t dare respond to a bold, senior black lady. It was all very amusing.

Keep in mind that Trump and his minions were simply projecting in 2020 claiming election fraud, which is what they were themselves trying to do. Between the approximately 3.7 million of suppressed and disenfranchised voters in swing states and the strong likelihood that they managed to manipulate the voting machines tallying to turn the votes to Trump, I am at least 80% convinced Trump stole the 2024 election.

by Anonymousreply 286April 15, 2025 12:02 AM

R286 Same. You have Tulsi saying the machines are easily hacked. Then you have a sudden, huge shift within the techbros from Dem to maga including Starlink Elon. Also, Dotard always projects, and we know what he says about elections and our election security. Again, you don’t win all swing states, yet Democrats win the down ballot races in all of them. It’s statistically unheard of. Rove also said elections are easy to steal if they’re close. Too many billionaires were on Dotard’s side with everything on the line- end of democracy and the rise of an oligarchy. THIS was the moment and they seized it. IDGAF if that sounds Blue Anon. There’s more facts there than maga EVER had about a stolen election.

The time for that was Nov 5th,2024,

Americans threw away a lifestyle that was better than 90% of Earth’s inhabitants. We were always an imperfect union, but striving for better. We had an economy in 2024 that was the envy of the world. We had an economy many economists said was the most solid we’ve ever had. Biden’s policies were just kicking in. A Golden Era was just ahead. We could all feel it. Until corp media told us otherwise. We threw our democracy away for what? So a colored woman didn’t become president? Because of the fictional trans issue which 90% of Democrats didn’t make anywhere near a central plank of their party? Democrats aren’t waging a culture war. Republicans have been waging it since the 70s.

The entire modern economy is built on rare earth minerals.

Everything.

Defense, medical equipment, cars, phones, industrial tools. Everything.

China has 95% of the world’s refining capacity and is not exporting any of it out anymore.

It would take the U.S. 5-10 years at the minimum to open our own refineries.

Financial markets are calm about this for now because companies have enough inventory to last a quarter or two.

And the assumption is that China will reverse this policy before the effects start appearing.

But are we 100% certain of that assumption?

Because if we are not, you need to price in some very scary left tails.”

Ask Grok what would happen to the US economy if they don’t reverse “

DJT is notorious for cheating at the game of golf. He picks up balls and moves them to make easier shots. He drives his golf cart on the greens all the way up to or near the holes. Then the scorekeeper reduces the number of strokes he made.

Lindsey Graham is right there golfing with Donald Trump almost each time Trump decides to play.

South Carolina has some of the finest golf courses in the country, but she avoids going golfing in her home state. Her motive is to be by Trump‘s side, and not an obsession with the game.

The total is more than double the previous record of $107 million set by Trump's inaugural committee in 2017

"Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was carrying $3,000 in cash when her purse was stolen because she was planning to hand out the money to family as Easter gifts, she claims."

"The so-called 'ICE Barbie' was robbed while she was dining at Capital Burger in Washington D.C., despite being accompanied by her Secret Service detail."

"But a law enforcement source disclosed to CNN that there were plenty of valuables in the bag that was stolen on Sunday."

"The man was able to take off with Noem's driver's license, medication, house keys, passport, DHS badge, makeup bag, blank checks and roughly $3,000 in cash, the source shared."

The idiot lost her security badge. Where does it end with this Keyston Cops administration? I mean come on.

I have my doubts this extensive focus, including a trip by a Senator and another trip by some House members, to El Salvador in support of Kilmar Ábrego García, is helping Democrats among the general electorate. The media is putting García front and center in the news, and this is the Trump transgression that gets Democrats activated? Leave it with the courts.

From the beginning of the Biden administration, Garland portrayed himself as careful, thorough, fair-minded, and calming in his work. What he showed when it came to Trump and his prime co-conspirators, Garland procrastinated to run out the clock, neglected to act on a multitude of egregious behaviors, and appointed a special council so late there was not enough time allowed to take the prosecutions through the system for final judgments. Garland acted timid, showed no spine, and rendered the impression, correctly perhaps, he was secretly pro-Trump and wanted him to succeed in not being convicted in the federal judiciary.

Yet, Garland's special prosecutor, went to extraordinary efforts to please Republicans and level convictions on Hunter Biden.

Speaking of America's most hypocritical senator:

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) is pleading with Trump to “reconsider” his denial of disaster relief after tornadoes hit Arkansas. Cotton joined the Arkansas delegation in writing a letter directly to Trump to support Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ request for funds.

Cotton has a history of voting against disaster relief for other states. “I don’t think Arkansas needs to bail out the Northeast,” Cotton said in the aftermath of 2013’s Hurricane Sandy.

by Anonymousreply 373April 22, 2025 6:34 PM

I haven’t heard anything from or about the divorced Kellyanne Conway since last November. She lost much of her credibility with her tactics, propaganda, and outright lies. They became lovers and they began living together. They broke up a few years later. benet’s 6 year old son with Bill Bixby died from a freak throat virus. Not long after Benet called Tammy Bruce and asked her to come over for lunch. When Tammy got there Benet was locked in her bathroom and shortly shot herself. That must have been terrible. I haven’t thought about Brenda Benet in years but this morning when I saw Tammy Bruce scolding Pamela Brown about the details of the Ukraine deal I looked her up.

Trump has been looking quite orange lately. Here's a guy who could have one of the best makeup artists in the world but I guess he thinks he looks good. Wrong, Don.

by Anonymousreply 395April 24, 2025 1:32 AM

I suspect MAGA cultists will never get it, ever, but he's at 37% for handling the economy. I wonder if that overall approval figure might just take awhile to catch up to the economy figures for non-cultists. I don't pretend to know how polls move, but I assume when the country decides you really kind of suck at that whole economy thing, it's tough to come back from that.

When your local store shelves are empty and the price of everything is up significantly, then perhaps the scales will fall from their eyes.

by Anonymousreply 397April 24, 2025 1:39 AM

Once tariffs are implemented (in how many days now,78?) and prices start to rise and stay that way, the cultists will start to squirm. The economy isn't yet in a place where they can understand the living hell that will be unleashed -- they're simply too ignorant to understand simple economic principles to know the devastation that lies ahead. They're not very bright people, certainly not means end thinkers.

They will only start to think "maybe this isn't such a good idea" when they start to feel the acute pain. Right now MAGA is too intoxicated with the idea that their god is inflicting pain on those they hate and envy. The list is extensive, so the fapping to others' misfortune will go on for a while until the economic downturn his them right between the eyes.

• Another federal judge blocked his administration from withholding federal funding from several so-called sanctuary jurisdictions that have declined to cooperate with the Republican president’s hardline immigration crackdown.

• Another federal judge blocked the administration from immediately enacting certain changes to how federal elections are run, including adding a proof-of-citizenship requirement to the federal voter registration form.

Links work if you have Twitter. It is where I get some great info. I hate it, too.

From the last post of mine:

The White House has put itself and the country in a bad situation but doesn’t realize it yet.

Around April 10th China to USA trade shut down.

It takes ~30 days for containers to go from China to LA.

45 to Houston by sea, 45 to Chicago by train.

55 to New York by sea.

That means that there are no economic effects of what was done on April 10th until about May 10th.

Around that time (it’s already started to happen) trucking work is going to dry up. Warehouses will start doing layoffs because no labor is needed to unload containers and some products will be out of stock, reducing the need for shipping labor.

All this will start in the Los Angeles area.

After about 2 weeks, it’ll start hitting Chicago and Houston.

Let’s say the White House, after 3 weeks, changes its mind, on May 31st.

“This isn’t working out like we thought it would. Tariffs back to 0.”

Let’s say China says “bygones be bygones, we’ll go back to how things were”.

Let’s say every factory in China that got screwed by their orders being cancelled says the same thing “no problem, we’ll make and ship”.

The problem is, even under the most favorable conditions of China and the factories restarting economic ties as though nothing happened, it will be at least another 30 days before economic activity is revived.

And that’s just in LA.

In Chicago/Houston, you’ll need to wait another 45 days.

New York, at that point, will still be getting containers from before April 10th, they will then have 50 days (May 31 minus April 10) of zero economic activity at the ports, in trucking of Chinese goods, in warehousing.

The whole situation is a bit like lockdowns. Once you shut down, it takes a long time to get economic activity back to where it was, if you ever can.

And again, this assumes, that China and its factories, which make things you can’t buy elsewhere, will start right back up again as though nothing happened, which is unlikely.

It’s almost like we’re speeding towards a brick wall but the driver of the car doesn’t see it yet.

By the time he does, it’ll be too late to hit the brakes.

by Anonymousreply 432April 24, 2025 9:41 PM

-emergency radio (again, told to get by my friend on the Hill. They were very insistent I do so).

It’s not just China. He’s screwed every one of our allies. They are making deals with other countries, and those deals will not change for a long time. We are going to be iced out by the world. They hate us. They don’t trust us. Even if a Democrat gets in next, they know Americans are contrarians and will elect a R Congress at midterms, then another crazy ass R president. You can set your watch by it. The damage Dotard has done is immense, and it will last decades.

Don’t blame Biden or Garland. Americans are fucking stupid, lazy, entitled racist, misogynistic homophobic dumbasses. If we really chucked our envious way of living, our entire democracy, our entire Constitution over “woke” or “trans” issues then that is even more damning on us as a people. This is sadly the result of never fully dealing with the racial issues, and confronting these goddamn racists who never got over losing the Civil War. Had we just let Blacks be successful (instead of killing them when they were, or making laws preventing them from being successful) we wouldn’t have had the ghettos, the increasingly (justifiably) hostile and violent inner cities of despair where a lot of your options are crime. Imagine all the wonderful things we could have if it wasn’t for the fucking racists (and misogynists and homophobes). We’d have far more than Europe. Far better schools, health care, infrastructure, social programs, everything! But no, gotta keep those coloreds in their place!

Republicans have put us in a recession or depression from Hoover to Trump. Every. Single. Time. Democrats perform better for the economy by every measure going back 100 years. Yet, who do Americans think is better on the economy? It is un fucking believable.

by Anonymousreply 435April 24, 2025 10:12 PM

FCI, I have always believed that racism—in its peculiar form in this country—is at the root of all that is wrong in America. Very eloquent post.

And that’s not to say that racism doesn’t exist elsewhere, but in America, it’s—for lack of better words—unique and particularly destructive here.

by Anonymousreply 436April 24, 2025 10:22 PM

R436 Correct. It’s so devastating. There aren’t enough words in the world to articulate how destructive it has been for our country. I say this as a southern white boy with light brown hair and blue eyes.

by Anonymousreply 437April 24, 2025 10:42 PM

R435 - Thanks for your most articulate and informative contributions to this thread. As an insider (so to speak) you have more insight to the inter goings on and can convey that info to those of us that want to be informed and prepared.

by Anonymousreply 442April 24, 2025 11:17 PM

R442 It’s starting to. Trucking and shipping volume are plummeting. I hate Twitter as much as the next person, but more and more trusted accounts are posting receipts about how all signs from what I just posted, to other things like housing, are looking really bad. Add to that we have the most incompetent administration in history, and I am very worried.

by Anonymousreply 443April 24, 2025 11:25 PM

Having cash for in person transactions may be helpful but what about paying monthly bills - Utilities, Internet/Phone, Installment Loans, etc., let alone Real Estate taxes that are due every 6 months, plus insurance (Health, Car, Home) and on and on.

Is the coming 'Crash' going to bring down everything or will it be like Covid but far worse?

r444, I believe that the USPS still offers Money Orders.

It will all depend on the status of online banking.

It will depend on the cash deposits insured by the FDIC.

by Anonymousreply 446April 24, 2025 11:39 PM

R444 That’s the trillion dollar question. Maybe they are fear mongering, but I think this will be far worse than Covid. I *hate* to sound so pessimistic, but we’re headed for a huge crash judging from what I am seeing from so many people online. I would love nothing more than to be wrong. I want us all to be prepared. I started hearing alarm bells from the Hill way back in Nov. They all knew Dotard was going to do the tariffs, and that project 2025 would go forward. They knew he would severely weaken and compromise our national security. I’ll just say it- they fear a huge cyberattack hitting our electric grids. That is what I was told hence the solar powered and cash. That has lessened somewhat, but not for good reasons. They are getting far more from this administration than they ever imagined. We’re destroying ourselves.

by Anonymousreply 447April 24, 2025 11:41 PM

R444 - Thanks. I believe the USPS requires cash to purchase money orders so I'd have to have thousands of dollars on hand to keep things afloat regarding my parrticular situation. At least my house is paid for and I live in a rural secluded area on 5 acres and I have plenty of supplies (in general) but no matter how well prepared one is, there is sure to be something overlooked. At least knowing what's coming and doing something in preperation is using ones time wisely. Fun times ahead.

R453 - Thanks for your prep status - I have two vehicles, one paid for, one about a year left. I have a good bit in liquid savings and could live off that for up to 3 years if need be but having it available is of concern depending on how this goes (or doesn't go!). The vehicle payment is only $443.00 per month @0.9% so I'll let that ride for now. I just returned from picking up more provisions (90 rolls of Scott TP!!) plus 2 6-packs of canned chicken breasts (Sam's) and some other stuff to add to my larder stockpile.

It is hard to fathom EVERYTHING just crashing (Money system, communications, utilities, etc.) but if it does only the hard prepers will be best prepared.

Having cash is good but small bills (1,5,10,20) is best since you can pay w/o being concerned if others have change should you pull out a One Hundred dollar bill to pay for a pack of gum.

Time will tell but until then I'll enjoy the near-term and hope things don't get too Hinky.

by Anonymousreply 456April 25, 2025 4:07 PM

I’ve been low key prepping since the election. Lately I’m not feeling that our financial/electrical systems will break down permanently, however I do feel some craziness will happen /SHTF in May causing chaos. I’m prepared to hunker down with my pets for approx 4 months if needed. Shelves may be emptier due to tariffs, there may be civil unrest/violence so just buy a few extra (if you can) of stuff you can’t be without in the next couple of months. Pet food, coffee, bottled water, meds, batteries etc.

I WFH (while I still have a job) so not too worried about my car etc but my prepping probably will likely keep me from having to go out and deal with any fuckery that may happening out in the world.

Even the consumer reporter on NBC Today finally said shelves will be emptier in the very near future (someone on Bluesky figured out the dates of when chinese shipments will stop hitting our ports and it pointed to May 10-20) . The reporter also stated many jobs around transportation and shipping will be gone very very soon. Don’t panic just be ready! Today show clip attached.

r458/Icky, Trump always escapes into chaos. When he finally figures out he cannot be America's first dictator, when it comes to him being impeached, I put nothing past him. He will steal ALL of our money through his Treasury servers, he will nuke a city or two, and he will leave magic beans in the treasury to pay the national bills. We will be fucked if he takes over the banks. However,

Americans aren't going anywhere.

I will see all of you at the Second Republic where there will not be an Electoral College.

by Anonymousreply 458April 25, 2025 5:13 PM

R457 & R458 - I've always bought extra 'just in case' stuff so I have several months worth of consumable provisions & pet food for my precious Calico. Also lots of personal care items (soap, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, etc.) underwear, socks and other stuff. I should live long enough to wear out all the footwear I have in addition to slacks/pants/shirts/outerwear and so on. I need to get more cash on hand soon as well since I rarely carry any. I do have a lot of silver dollars I bought /inherited which could be used to barter if it comes to that.

Since I live in a small town in a rural area (South of Charlottesville) I should be OK as most nearby are pretty decent people and have more money/land than I do. My closest 'neighbor' in nearly 1/2 mile away so I'm in a somewhat secluded location off a dirt/gravel road. My only real concern is not having electricity since I consider that essential to any kind of civilized existence. I won't worry too much about how bad it could get but should the 'bow break' then I won't be the only one doing without.

At the age of 75 I've had it pretty good considering how some exist on this planet. I hope I don't go out with a 'bang' due to the ineptitude of the most unqualified person on the planet to run anything beyond a lemonade stand!

Just picked up two extra bags of cat food and three extra boxes of litter, along with food for me.

I’ve got my garden started (potatoes, collards, broccoli, peas, lettuce) and will start some bok Choi, beans and tomatoes shortly. I might end up with cabbage, too, so I’ll have to attempt some sauerkraut. I already make pickles every year.

Most people around me have small gardens and give away extras. Guess we’ll be trading vegetables and herbs.

Hey icky!

I'm just south of Richmond, we're practically neighbors!

Went to Target today to get some litter & cat food since they have a Circle Reward going on so buy $100 and get $25 off. It ended up messing so the cashier just took $25 off.

I still had the reward so I took that as a sign and went to another Target and it worked. So I doubled up for my precious babies.

by Anonymousreply 467April 25, 2025 11:13 PM

R466 - yes, neighbors indeed! There is a Costco in C'ville but I shop Sam's although I did have a Costco membership several years ago.

I have 4 40lb boxes of cat litter w/another one in service. My cat has the best litter box manners I've ever seen in all the cats I've had over the decades. I date the open one when started and calculated 1 40lb box will last 4 months so I have enough for at least a year. I also have lots off cat food/treats and have deliveries from Chewy often enough so I have a good surplus of 6 months or so. I have a local vet/clinic as well as a 'House Calls' vet that comes once a year for a wellness check and annual vaccines.

The media is really ramping up the 'Shelves will be bare in May' story and hopefully people will pay attention but I doubt it. If someone needs something I have plenty and will share although in my immediate area we 'drive' to each others homes - it's too far to walk!

by Anonymousreply 468April 25, 2025 11:29 PM

The Trump administration is poised to eliminate dozens of federal programs, including protective services for vulnerable seniors, chronic disease self-management education, resource centers for people who have been paralyzed or lost a limb and one that tries to help older people prevent falls. Even a more modest federal initiative aimed at making polling places more accessible would be eliminated under the proposal.

All of these programs facing the knife fall under the Administration for Community Living, a component of the Department of Health and Human Services that aims to help older adults and people with disabilities remain in their homes and communities. The whole department is being zeroed out, according to the budget proposal.

#R470 - uncle June!! you are right. But even Tony’s crew was kinder than these people. …, Ok - I may have some dumb questions in the up coming days. A group that loves their cats this much is the group to be in. My fiancés are low at the moment and I rent. I had a lot of painful and expensive dental surgery at the beginning of the year. Thank God I got it done or all of this would be unbearable. I am 60 and have no family except my 88 year old mom - I am her sole care giver . She has dementia and can’t walk - I have my hands full! Plus my beloved Sunny my 17 year old Tabby with renal disease. His prescription cat food is $3.50 a can - I had better hustle and and stock up in case it is unavailable. He has special medication that is $85 a bottle and it comes from Canada - so I had better hurry up with that, too. Life is complicated enough without all of this cruel insanity that is going on. I am worried about power and banks going down. My mom is pretty great but I have to explain things over and over …. honestly - I appreciate you all more than you know - it makes me feel less isolated! Thank you.

any inside info on the GOP implosion in Virginia?

by Anonymousreply 515April 28, 2025 10:15 PM

R514 Well said! And good on you for stocking up.

Was it worth it, Dotard voters? Was the economy REALLY bad under Biden? Both parties can get blame for the border, but you cannot solely blame Democrats when Republicans tanked their own BIPARTISAN border bill because Dotard wanted to run on the border. Is the trans issue affecting your lives in ANY way? (I am so goddamn sick of the anti-tans troll here). If voters were willing to throw away our cushy lives, the entire way we’ve run our government for 250 plus years over TRANS, then we get what we richly deserve coming.

Now the tactic is to blame Biden and Democrats for what we are about to go through. No no no. Voters, this is on you. American voters are the most gullible, picky, stupid, contrarian assholes. If a candidate doesn’t say just the right things, or doesn’t give us the feels, or goes to this or that state just the right amount of times it’s their fault? No, American voters are willfully and gleefully ignorant and want to be beguiled. Never mind what the candidate has actually done and says they want to do. No, American voters don’t want to think about that. They are waiting to be lied to, to be wedged by some inane issue that doesn’t mean shit, but gets them riled up so easily. It is almost an impossible task, maybe it is impossible, for Democrats to convince voters this or that is BULLSHIT when they so easily buy it every single fucking time. The party that always puts us in an economic ditch going back 100 years is seen as the party that is best on the economy. HOW DO YOU FIGHT THAT? There are so many people in my family who don’t think politics matter! They think it was just an interest of mine. They can’t connect the dots even though I show them real ways Biden or Dotard’s policies affected them. Some think it is “tearing our family apart” like pretending none of this is happening will make it go away.

Anyway- I went back to the store and picked up some rice and beans, plus anything that is made in China (like air filters) I bought a years worth.

R515 No, I only know what goes on at the state level here in Texas. Those Republicans are too extreme for VA. VA has gone Blue since ‘08.

by Anonymousreply 516April 28, 2025 10:28 PM

Also in the news as I was told and feared:

“ 🚨 BREAKING: Spain, Portugal, and parts of France just suffered synchronized infrastructure collapses, power grids down, metros offline, rail networks frozen, airports paralyzed, traffic lights dead, and supermarkets rationing water.

First they blamed “rare atmospheric phenomena.” Now they’re floating cyberattack theories with zero confirmed evidence.

You don’t get chaos this coordinated by accident.

You get it when someone wants to show you how fast your entire system can be unplugged.

Somebody just beta-tested collapse and Europe flunked the drill.”

by Anonymousreply 517April 28, 2025 11:05 PM

R516 - Thanks for another worthwhile post. You mentioned air filters - I assume you mean for the HVAC system. I two different sized air returns and purchased several 3-packs of each size although I will get more tomorrow when I go to Lowe's. I do have an old battery powered AM/FM radio which may be enough w/o having to buy an emergency radio which would be helpful should severe storms roll through my area.

Yeah, the blanket power outage overseas is a wake-up call - they want to create chaos and unrest (no money, food, electricity, etc.) then declare Martial Law to clamp down on any backlash. The shit is just a blink away from hitting the fan.
