If it's spring, it must be a shot of Mike Holmes Jr. in a swimsuit.

Hot Marine on a House Hunters Internation in Boblingen, Germany.
The face is a bit odd, but he is a big, strapping lad otherwise. 6'4" and just poured into the shirts and shorts he wore in every shot on the episode.
(His new wife looks a whole lot like Marjorie Taylor Greene and likes to pole dance.)

So this tells me HGTV is about 15 years behind the times of other 'reality' shows.

Paige replacing Hilary Farr is just......no.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | April 12, 2025 3:57 PM |
Why oh why can't HGTV develop any new gardening/landscaping-specific shows, or shows where flippers/new build hosts incorporate landscaping into the flip?
Landscaping adds so much value, curb appeal and interest to a home, and I don't get why the showrunners don't get they would draw in new viewers for shows like that.
They could do landscaping competition shows.
Or programs where the homeowners are happy with their homes, but want to add interesting plants/shubbery/trees and have tried diy-ing it but failed miserably.
Or shows where weekly the host/s travels to a different region and helps homeowners create landscaping with native plants.
Or shows that feature different plants every week, like one show is on roses, their history and their varieties--tea roses, heirloom, Florabunda, heavily-scented roses, roses hardy to various regions, how property owners can select the best rose based on their desires--purely ornamental, flippers who need quick growing and easy to maintain varieties, owners who want as much scent as possible, etc.
For example, I'm obsessed with "found" plants for creating floral arrangements. Wherever I am I scout the area for interesting plants and flowers by season; abandoned properties and fallow fields are great for that. I know where to find cat tails, native Louisiana irises (both purple and rust-red), prehistoric horse-tail, rain/surprise lilies, and in autumn the most amazing fields of riotous yellow Rudbeckia.
The possibilities are endless.

Yeh not so much Home and GARDEN TV anymore, which is a shame.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | April 12, 2025 4:11 PM |
Do we know where they are filming? What state?
Hillary was always elegant and classy and bougie.
Don’t want to cast aspersions but maybe this designer will be more down-to-earth? Dare I say more common? It has always depended on the budget the owners have as well.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | April 12, 2025 5:10 PM |
For some reason landscaping is an afterthought - the "slow" nature of gardening seems to be too dull for the quick cut edits of HGTV shows, with smashing demo hammers and loud cheap music blaring over the images.
There was the "Inside Out" show that had the gay designer inside and the Hot Plant Daddy outside, but it was cancelled.
There's definitely a need for more "teaching" shows like they had early on......and it doesn't have to be cable access level boring shit.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 12, 2025 5:12 PM |
Mike Holmes Sr. is so hot walking around in his tank top and overalls on his show. He once joked that he didn't wear underwear under his overalls, which is nice to imagine when watching the show.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 12, 2025 5:21 PM |
It's the renovation and real estate channel. I don't think they will ever go back to the many interesting home and garden shows they used to have.
What they do now - especially 24/7 shows like House Hunters and Lottery Dream Home - are cheap to produce. It's always all about the money, not the quality.

I just dont think people are into landscaping like they used to be. Not so house prod as in the past. Besides, have you seen the prices for landscaping products now ??? The yard at my last house was beautiful, mainly because it was 40 years worth of growth. My yard now is bare bones, and I dont care enough at 64 to alter that.

Sebring has a nice downtown, though it sounds like they also have a highway that bypasses the town entirely.

I do get it, R31, and people may not be into aesthetic gardening/landscaping at present, but there are a TON of Millennials and Gen Z'ers who are getting into vegetable/fruit gardening in a BIG way these last 3-5 years or so.
And it's so heartening to see. Last year one of my old Dad's Boy Scouts came to visit, and told us he'd retired as some big muckety-muck in the PNW tech region, and had returned to our state. All those decades he remembered my Dad always having a huge vegetable garden, and when the time came for retirement he knew exactly what he wanted to do--move back to his late parents' property and buy additional properties on either side, and turning it into a small-ish produce operation + farmer's market.
There are several groups across the US that focus on the Black farmer, telling people NEVER to sell their ancestors' acreage, but turn it into sustainable farms.
And urban farmers have been a thing for 25 years now.
I'd bet a startup rival to HGTV with emphasis on today's farmer and various farming/fruit series would be a huge hit, given time to develop and find its audience.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | April 14, 2025 11:22 AM |
I think part of the step away from gardening content is this:
When HGTV started, the shows were more about learning, about tips, ideas, etc. Yes, there's always been silly entertainment, there's always been "fluff" but there was a lot of: here's what you could think about doing with $500. Here's what you could do to brighten up one corner, or your bedroom. Or your yard....like "Curb Appeal."
Now, HGTV is basically QVC. The shows exist to feature, spotlight and sell a trend or product. Someone in home design and/or paint decided 10 years ago that everything would be gray, gray, gray. Now for the last 2 years, every interior room must now be green, green, green. HGTV won't put anything on where it can't sell you something. Magnolia *does* have a few learning shows but nobody's watching that channel.

I have to say I never watched 100 Day Reno or whatever that was but I just watched the finale of the Sebring reno and OK, I totally get the fuss over Brian. He's cute and he's got a banging body.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 16, 2025 3:19 AM |
And somehow, that Hawaii trash showed up in Sebring too.
I think Tristyn is a midget because she looked tiny next to Kamohai in Sebring. Either that or he's like 6 ft 5 in real life but they never shoot from that angle on the Hawaii show.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 16, 2025 3:21 AM |
I like Brian, but I never considered his body "banging." Has he been working out, or are there new pictures out there I need to see?
I'd probably like the Brian I remember better than a muscled one, but I would like to see that big boy's body sans clothes, whether plain or deluxe.
(Their show is a great example of how horrible clear-cut Florida plots of land are. Must be cheap Tampa area land.)

Kamohai is 6'2" but damn, he looked like a giant next to his wife in those Home Town Takeover scenes. I bet he DOES have a club for a dick.
I thought the whole drug abuse thing was maybe just a rumor but even his official HGTV page talks about it.
[quote] Kamohai and his wife, Tristyn, have been married for nearly a decade. How they met, however, is quite unique. The duo documented the story on their real estate podcast Deals & Aloha, which aired on their YouTube channel in 2022. Despite growing up in a supportive family — with a self-proclaimed skill of being good at almost everything — Kamohai fell into a party lifestyle, adopting alcohol and drug habits that landed him in jail on more than one occasion. As a result, he had to serve time in a treatment center. There, he not only got sober and started working for the facility — he met Tristyn. Tristyn’s mother was the executive director of the facility and Tristyn was an intern. As a former addict herself, Tristyn’s mother assured her Kamohai was a good man.

Just watched House Hunters Season 262, Episode 3. A white guy and a black guy - married two years - looking for their first house in Biloxi, Mississippi. Nice couple, and I assumed the black guy was the top in the relationship. Well, I changed my mind about 10 minutes into the episode when I caught the substantial VPL of the white guy. Holy mackerel, that’s quite something. There are several good VPL views throughout the episode, so not a crease in the pants. Hope someone can get a screenshot.
