I keep my setting midway so that I can see which replies are under attack as they are happening. If I see that it’s only because of a difference in opinion, I load up the strike-through replies with WWs to try to counter the attack and save the person. I posted five posts, and then was banned again.

For NOTHING.

I'm reporting Datalounge and Mediapolis to the FTC.

This place is a scam.

They take your money, and then don't let you post.

And it's been like this for a while.

It's one thing if this was a free forum, because then a moderator has more discretion and leeway when restricting posting.

But Datalounge is a pay-site, and by taking your money but continually banning you, then that is something that the FTC can look into. "The FTC investigates and brings cases against fraud, scams, and bad business practices."

That's exactly what's happening on Datalounge. It's a scam and bad business practices.

There's absolutely no transparency here. Your ability to post is based on the whims of a moderator or moderators who NEVER tell you what you did wrong. And there are no clear posting guidelines, so it could be a moderator who just doesn't like you, or is having a bad day, and then POOF. You're restricted from posting.

And you can arbitrarily be restricted for a day, two days, or more. Again, no transparency or guidelines.

Another problem is that Datalounge allows OTHER POSTERS to restrict your access. So if another poster doesn't like what you have to say, or they have something against you, then they can stalk you by tracking your posts, and then FF you into being restricted. It's systematic harassment, bullying, and stalking on this message board that the moderators continue to allow.

Those are BAD BUSINESS PRACTICES.

According to AI, this can be reported to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Better Business Bureau (BBB), or the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

I'm definitely reporting this to the FTC, and hopefully they will come down HARD on Mediapolis.

This place has to change, or I hope it gets shut down.

You start so many threads and that's going to ill-effect you because people will FF you as the OP when they don't like the thread subject. ( I don't do that, but obviously some people do.) Try going for an extended period of time without starting any new threads and see if that keeps this from happening to you.

It's an awful system.

Giving people the ability to FF other posters into a 24 or 48 hour posting restriction, is just ripe for abuse. And it IS being abused.

There are some here who are gaming the system, and they have figured out how to give themselves multiple WWs in just a matter of seconds, while also being able to FF people they don't like, causing them be be restricted from posting.

They also use the Ignore/Block feature to stalk other posters. It's creepy and weird.

And they do it over, and over, and over again so that some people are not able to post at all, even though they have paid for a subscription.

I don't know of any other forum on the internet, where other users can restrict their fellow posters from being able to post.

That discretion should be left solely to the forum moderators.

It's an awful system that is being abused, and I implore the moderators to put an end to it.

Also, if the moderators do restrict posters for 24 or 48 hours, there should be a general coding system to let people know WHY they have been restricted.

Something simple, like Code1 - creating too many threads, Code2 - harassing other posters, Code 3 - posting restricted/offensive content, etc. At least give people a general reason why they have been restricted, rather than making them guess.

There needs to be more transparency here.

As you can see, hardly anyone is posting on Datalounge any more.

My guess is that there are probably less than 100 people who visit here on any given day.

Some obnoxious poster is FF'ing other posters and getting them banned for a day or two.

Most have just given up and stopped posting, because it's frustrating and annoying.

I truly wish the webmaster would put an end to users being able to manipulate the FF feature to get other posters banned and restricted.

It's totally obnoxious, and driving people away from this site.

I only post a couple of times per week now thanks to this system as it actively discourages people from posting. I haven't posted in any political threads since November, by the way, I always get banned because someone disagrees with me on something in some entertainment thread and they FF me into a timeout.
