The ugly girl from "The Last of Us" is diagnosed with Autism
Bella Ramsey revealed in an interview with British Vogue that they sought out an autism diagnosis after a crew member said they recognized signs on set while filming season one. According to Ramsey, finally getting a diagnosis was “liberating.”
“I’ve spoken a bit about neurodivergence before, but I always for some reason didn’t want to say what it was,” Ramsey said. “I got diagnosed with autism when I was filming season one of ‘The Last of Us.'”
According to Ramsey, a member of the crew with an autistic daughter assumed Ramsey had it too, which prompted them to eventually seek out a formal psychiatric assessment and diagnosis. Ramsey described feeling like a “weirdo” and a “loner,” admitting autism was something they had “always wondered” about. Ramsey also experiences sensory issues common to people on the spectrum, and expressed “painful hyperawareness of other people’s micro-expressions and body language.”

Every teen who ever lived described feeling like a “weirdo” and a “loner” at some point in time.

Why is Bella Ramsey the target of so much hate? ‘The Last of Us’ star sparks the fury of the manosphere

R3, because weak, insecure people like OP are always looking for a target to hone in on, to deflect from their own considerable shortcomings. It's always this way with bullies.

She is startlingly homely

You’re all misgendering ! Bella is a they/them.
An autistic they/them, so that’s, like, double the Gen Z clout or whatever. Would Bella be Gen Z? I can’t keep up.

The title of the thread made me laugh out loud & I knew exactly who OP meant.

Autism and "they/them" go hand in hand.

Because incels who play that violent video game the show is based on don’t want to have sex with her (as if sex with any consenting human life form would even be a possibility for them).

She is talented with an oddness that becomes likeable fairly quickly. I suspect she will have a long and enviable career as an actress.

Has she been cast as Greta Thunberg yet?

I think people resent the mis-casting and take it out on her. The expectation is that actors are going to be better looking that the average Joe or Jane, nobody expects someone relatively unattractive to get a role playing a good-looking character. People think she doesn’t deserve it and hold it against her. If she was playing a “character actress” role, nobody would care. I can’t even think of another example of an actor playing a character who is supposed to be significantly better looking than them. The guy who played the Mexican astronaut, maybe. But he has charisma, if not looks. And the appearance mismatch was less.
Also, she was pretty unlikeable in season one. Especially compared to Joel’s daughter, who had charisma (and was very pretty). I’ve only watched one episode of season 2 and she came across better personality-wise but the idea of her being a physically intimidating tough person alienated me. She’s not running around undressed, but she seems like the weaker skinny fat type. I’m not buying her sparring with fit men.
She’s no Lena Dunham. She isn’t trying to look bad and if she waited on me at a restaurant or sat near me at work her appearance wouldn’t register. But I think she was a poor casting choice. I don’t get what someone saw in her that they thought justified overlooking her lack of (Hollywood level) physical appeal.

When you’re high functioning like she is, I really dont see the point of getting officially diagnosed. What’s the point? Sometimes I suspect I have it because I have close family members who have been diagnosed but I’m not sure it matters why it would matter whether I have it or not. If you can hold down a job, have family and friends, etc, who cares if you have autism?

I’m happy for her success. She was wonderful on Game of Thrones.

R20 why don't you ask your close family members why it matters to them and report back
