Gio initially got a lot of shit from viewers but I find him cute and charming.

He's growing on me.

I give Gio credit, his acting and level of ease in front of the camera have improved quite a bit in a short amount of time.

Not the same can be said for one or two others, past and present. i.e. Coloma.

That's what Ron did when he came aboard in 2012 and saved the show from cancellation. Brought back old faves like Anna and Lucy, focused on the show's history and reminded viewers why they loved the series to begin with.

He also moved Sonny to just being a part of the ensemble -- albeit a prominent part -- rather than the center of the show. Ron understood that having everything revolve around Sonny was a cancer killing the show.

Could this Danny Cosgrove character be someone connected to the canvas aside from Drew? I'm just tired of the all new characters that suck and then Frankie V. orders them to be "connected" in some way by retcon to keep them on. Maybe he's married or now divorced from Serena Baldwin. Something...anything!

I really don’t understand what they’re doing with the Kristina character. It’s been months of her yelling at Ava that she killed her baby. This character has stalled out. They need to rehab her or cut her. I swear it’s maddening.

Yeah they either need to make annoying Kristina bipolar like her father to explain her hyper-fixation or send her away for a while for a reboot. Or Ava can "Connie" her...

My vote is to “Connie” her. It doesn’t help that the actress plays her very one note. There are no levels to her performance. She’s just bitter.

I feel terrible about how critical I was of Tamara Braun's appearance during her last run. I came here and made fun of her under eye dark circles, stringy hair and gaunt appearance. Meanwhile she was just trying to survive the behind the scenes shit show. I've since seen clips of her on DOOL and she looks healthy and lovely even in scenes with SBu. I guess SBu didn't get to call the shots at DOOL like he does at General Toxic Hospital.

I liked SB at DOOL and he has been better lately especially with Tracy

May I say how repulsed I was by the scenes of Carly and Jason today? The scenes were insipid. Their "friendship" is ridiculous. At least, SB had some good line deliveries, while his scene partner needs to take some acting classes.

If you have a 1-a-week guarantee, and you only work 6x total and you're dropped on a 13-week cycle, I imagine the show owes you 7 episodes.

I guess if you work 13 episodes in 3 weeks, they could drop you and not have to pay you anymore as the show fulfilled the once-a-week guarantee.

I'm in the minority here, but I like Drew the villain. The most interesting thing they've done since CM took over the role.

Drew is a little too mustasche-twirling, self important. Good actors layer their characters, with the help of good writers. With CM, there's no subtlety, there's no subtext. He is on par with Maurice Benard and the Kai actor with regard to acting -- hey, the Emma and Gio actors are stronger at this point.

Mathison is not villain material just like LW's boy toy Ramsey wasn't villain material. They just don't have the depth and talent.

Mathison is best suited for game show hosting and not much else.

Carlo Rota is a proper villain.

An actor signs a contract, let's say, one year or two. That one year is divided into either 13 (newbies) or 26 (more seasoned) week cycles. For paycheck purposes, they are said to have (to make it simple) a two-day-a-week guarantee. That's their weekly check, two episodes a week.

However, they don't have to appear in two episodes every week. They just have to appear in the number of episodes they are guaranteed for that cycle. If they appear in fewer episodes, they still make the full salary for that cycle. If they appear in more episodes for the cycle, which used to happen quite a bit on these shows - before budgets became tight, they were paid their full episode fee, and it didn't affect the next bucket of episodes in their following cycle - if their cycle was picked up.

Someone like the actress who plays Emma probably makes $2000 a week (give or take), and someone like Maurice probably makes in the range of $40,000 a week.

R313, the man has a young wife and a daughter. He's got bills to pay.

R318 It’s based on the actors cycle - most have 13 week cycles. If they have a guarantee of 1 episode a week, the writers do their best to only write them in 13 episodes in 13 weeks. They are paid per episode so if they’ve gone over the 13 episodes, they are paid accordingly. If they appeared in less than 13 episodes, at the end of 13 weeks, they are paid for however many episodes they didn’t appear in up to 13. That rarely happens because the owners do not want to pay actors for episodes they never worked. And the owners do not want to pay for overages, so the writers have a mandate to try as much as possible to stick to the actors guarantee. People like Mo and LW have bigger guarantees.

There has never been one single rumor about Maurice taking a pay cut or being asked to take a pay cut, or having difficult negotiations. I remember that it was reported that he joined the Million a Year Club in the 2000s - I based my figures on that. I don't think Maurice would be quiet about being lowballed.

The only thing I remember about Laura Wright was that both Roger Howarth and Michael Easton came on making more than her, and that didn't sit well.

I don’t think anyone, even Mo, has a 4-day-per-week guarantee. That would be more than 200 episodes per year. He appeared in 160 in 2024 and 163 in 2023. LW appeared in 131 in 2024 and 134 in 2023.

Perhaps he’s guaranteed 40 episodes per 13-week cycle and she’s guaranteed 32, or something.

Maurice isn't in the million dollar club - NO one is these days on daytime. Most actors went through huge paycuts in the 2008-2012 period and then smaller ones since.

There's probably a handful of actors making between 250K and 500K a year on daytime - at GH that would be LW, Mo and Steve. At YR it's Braeden, Melody Thomas Scott and Peter Bergman. Deidre at DAYS, perhaps, though she may have taken an even steeper paycut when the show went to Peacock.

A lot of vets at all shows are on recurring but you don't always know that, depending on their billing protocols.

I'm not fan of LW's acting. The constant yelling her character does. The waving of the arms and the hair and the drama.

BUT from what I hear, she's a team player and volunteers for everything. I don't know that actors are PAID to screentest with contenders.

I hear if they need an actor at 5 am to do a satellite press tour, she volunteers.

I give her credit for that.

It definitely looks like she volunteers for everything but I was told directly from a GH actress that Frank chooses who he wants to appear at events and THEN extends invites to others. LW is always chosen in that first group. He has desperately tried to make her the face of the show.

Mo opened saying he hasn't really seen much of Van's acting except for a line or two but he just knows he's a good actor by looking at him. Mo also says Van looks like Peter Skarsgard. Mo says his son Joshua looks like Sal Mineo. Steve Burton says Mo looks like Erik Estrada.

Van went to a performing arts boarding school for high school. His elementary school years were not good so he was happy to go to boarding school. After theater high school, Van went to Drama School at Carnegie Mellon. He spent a semester in Russia. Lots of discussion about his time in Russia.

He stays away from subject matter regarding illness as he tends to take on the symptoms of whatever illness he reads or hears about which is odd as he now plays a doctor... He had a panic attack doing a scene a few months ago, he went back and watched it on Hulu and was relieved it wasn't obvious what he was going through.

The first scene Mo taped when he came back from his most recent breakdown was Sonny on a ledge contemplating killing himself. Mo says it's not obvious when he's having a hard time in scenes either because of, you know, his good acting. I beg to differ.

I think I’m ready to bail. This show is doing the bare minimum and it’s doing it poorly. Lucky and Lulu’s returns are botched beyond repair, every couple of months there is a retcon paternity reveal that makes no sense, Maurice thinks he’s driving story but he can’t even string a sentence together. Kelly and Dominic were informed that Lulu was being recast, with a triangle being front and center. Initially, Dominic and Kelly showed interest in the idea, even though they both wanted the Dante and Sam love story to continue. Kelly apparently talked it over with Carmina and her friends, then suddenly decided to ask Steve if he wanted Jason and Sam back together, for she didn't want to play the odd one out in an eventual Dante and Lulu reunion. Steve refused, so Kelly went over Frank and the writers head by contacting the network, in an effort to have Jason and Sam mandated. The executives refused and contacted Frank, who suggested Kelly fired instead of Maura or anyone else who would've been on the chopping block since Frank and Nathan were trying to stop Maura from being fired.

There's also another instance that's probably not widely known- when Genie Francis returned to the show, albeit briefly, in 2008, Kelly threw a fit when she learned that Sam wasn't going to be an integral part of the story, since Sam was still connected with Greg Vaughan's Lucky.

Shows try to give all actors limited input in their stories unless they have clauses in their contracts specifically stating story approval. Quite frankly, I'm not sure why religious actors want to appear on soaps, but soaps have to take some personal preferences into account to cover their butts from discrimination lawsuits. Laura Wright didn't want Carly to be paired with the Shawn character. I don't think Laura Wright is racist, but she knows that her fanbase is. I know for a fact that most head writers pitch stories to the show leads and try to get their buy-in before it shows up in breakdowns.

I don't think AlexaCameronBure will go to the extremes BurquaLynn does and show up to love scenes in a sweatsuit with a bulky robe on top but I don't think we will see the typical undressing each other scene either. It will be the aftermath in bed with her holding a sheet up and exposed shoulders only. And as already mentioned, she will probably only be paired with one partner i.e. one kissing partner.

At least Alexa wears fashionable clothes and looks good, like someone her age would. Blazer Lynn dresses like a frump.

Good luck with that. .. While Rory is a good-looking guy, he was exceptionally flat and downright dull in the role of "Noah Newman" on Y&R. Viewers had high hopes when he was cast, since he not only had the right look to be Nick & Sharon's son, but with his hire, TPTB also finally corrected the character's age to be right in relation to his older sister, Mariah (Cassie's twin). But Gibson never caught fire, and I remember some starting to refer to him as "Sleepy Noah."

I sound like a broken record but it doesn’t matter how good the Michael recast is. It all comes down to the writing. They’ve managed to botch the returns of Jason, Lucky and Lulu. These should have been home runs but they’ve all fallen flat.

Megan McTavish said in her book proposal that soap fans only want to watch reruns. She was right. In an effort to hold on to what audience they have left, soaps are just wash, rinse, repeat. The other day 70 year old Brook Logan was walking around in lingerie. GH is still focused around Sonny, Carly and Jason. The show has never made an effort to build a sustainable and engaging next generation. People blame Chad Duell for Michael, it's not all Chad Duell.
