I’ve only watched three of the ten shows (Leave it to Beaver, Brady Bunch, Mama’s Family), so I only knew three characters. I’m bored, so I Googled the rest.

R21, I don’t know if you’ve ever seen My Three Sons, but Don Grady (Robbie) was not only stunning in his prime, he had a sexy voice. The way he carried himself was so seductive.
(Unfortunately, as he aged, he turned into William Shatner. Possibly a turnon for others but definitely not for me.)

Robbie's butt-chin was ever-so intriguing to 6 or 7 year old me, and my mother was upset when I said I didn't understand why Ernie got adopted into the Douglas family and not me. I don't think she ever connected that I was infatuated with Don Grady; what she was upset about was that she encouraged a better relationship between my brother and I and I said I wanted to be adopted the Douglas family so that Robbie would be my brother, like Ernie.
It was a recurring theme throughout my childhood. I frequently suggested boys I'd like for an older brother. She's always ask my what was wrong with my brother and I must have said a million times "he's mean to me!", and of course, that wasn't it; what caused the rift was that my brother was so clearly our father's favorite that you could see it from outer space. And brother sealed the deal when he saw that I'd hung a picture of Parker Stevenson over my desk and accused me (once again) of being a fag and told me that, like if I ever used drugs, if I was a fag he'd kill me. What hurts about that is that at the time I of course knew no different but within a few years and in retrospect I realized that he didn't come up with this threat, he was parroting our father.

Wally Cleaver was my ideal and first male crush watching afternoon reruns on my black & white TV. All these year's later I still find him to be my ideal guy.

y’all are stupid old. and the list is too twink fixated. i wanted to nuzzle the six million dollar man’s hairy chest, and unbuckle john schnieder’s jeans on dusk of hazard. i didn’t know enough about sex to know what these actions really meant, but i sure wanted to find out.

[quote]y’all are stupid old
Unless you're GenZ or Gen Alpha, who are more social media-focused, most people 45 and up (the main demo of DL) would know or have a general idea of who most of those people are. Bud Anderson and Jeff Stone may trip them up, but the rest of those shows are being played every day or so on some channel.

[quote] dusk of hazard. i didn’t know enough
You still don't.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | March 23, 2025 3:55 PM |
It depends on what "settle" means, R56. Overall, I'd say no, but there were moments later in life that softened the divide. What I thought of when reading your question was an acknowledgement from my father in my late 20s that he realized his failures, but understanding that I had only become interesting to my father when I'd grown up enough that he could — or wanted to — relate to me.
The backstory: We'd gone on a family vacation to Disneyland when I was 8, and despite my and my brother's insistence at wanting to stay at the park, he dragged us off to a barbecue with a high school friend of his who'd moved to LA, complete with a big house in the San Fernando Valley with a pool, something he mentioned to entice us with at least an afternoon of swimming. His friend had a 16-year-old son who was a typical SoCal surfer boy, blond, built and pretty much my pre-pubescent ideal. His name was Steve and he was a total sweetheart, taking an immediate like and teaching me some swim strokes, putting his hands all over me to show my what to do and how to move my arms and legs, and just paying attention to me. I stuck to him like glue all afternoon, eventually falling asleep in his arms. When I woke up on the drive back to Disney, I became upset that I hadn't been able to say goodbye to Steve and told my mother I wished he was my brother. Ouch.
Cut to 20 years later (so, early 1990s) when my father was helping me with a minor remodeling job (an adult, interesting thing) when he, out of the blue, brought up Steve, asking if I remembered him. I did, of course; then my father said that he'd died, and... "he wasn't fond of the ladies" then indicated it was due to HIV without saying so. It was bittersweet; it was the first time he ever expressed any compassion or warmth toward me in relation to being gay, and yet tainted by association to the AIDs crisis.
