Felix Mendelssohn
Mendelssohn was the bridge between Classical and Romantic music.
A precious child, by the time he died at age 38, he composed 7 operas, 5 symphonies, 3 orators, 2 piano concertos, 1 violin concerto, and a myriad of lieders, hymns, and chamber music.
So, what are your favorite pieces, lieders, and fun facts of the composer?

I always loved his Third Symphony- The Scottish Symphony. He wrote it (and the Hebrides) while staying at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Attached is the London Symphony Orchestra in top form, conducted by Claudio Abbado.

No, he wasn’t. That would be Beethoven, Hummel, Weber, or Rossini.

R9 - So did dozens of other composers, both before and after Mendelssohn; that doesn’t make him “The Bridge.”

He was A bridge, but certainly not THE bridge.

If composers were executed at 18, he would be the greatest composer who ever lived by a considerable margin. His precocity was supernatural. It’s odd that Mozart secured the top place as prodigy/freak of nature. Nothing Mozart wrote before 18 comes anywhere near Mendelssohn’s teenage compostons. .

[quote] compostons
Much of what Mozart wrote before 18 belongs in the compost heap.

Not in the top tier of composers, but near the top of the just-below-top-tier. My two cents, and I’m sticking by my opinion
