Are Jeeps the New BMW?

Jeeps are better than they used to be, but are still unreliable.

They seem to like to "park" them in the passing lane.

Our 2006 Jeep Commander is a pretty cool car. I love its appearance, and it was a fully-loaded car when it was bought brand new. Sadly, it's got the worst air conditioning design known to man, so it hasn't had air conditioning in over a decade. Chrysler plainly sucks when it comes to that. It's basically a Dodge Durango on steroids. A wannabe G-Wagon.

The people who own those Wranglers seem to be MAGA people where I am. Dashboard covered in rubber ducks because they go bar hopping in shitty tourist areas across the South. It just exudes trashiness to me.

There is a thriving community of Jeep people in Houston. It is bizarre. Also, if you pay attention, there is a Jeep Cherokee in just about every single movie or tv show with a family for the past 40 years or more.

BMW drivers in LA are the worst. Is it because it's an expensive foreign car? They are the people who cut others off and do rude shit! I gather the white ones specifically contain Persians.

BMWs are not that expensive unless you are in the 7 series or the higher end models. I drive an I4 - I got it for under 40K off Carvana it is a 2023. I got it because I refuse to buy a tesla, but it is not that nice of a car compared to my old Jaguar Ipace ev I traded in. No real leather, no all wheel drive, the sound system is terrible, no auto pilot etc. I mean I love it but it lacks as much luxury as other cars in the same price range.

OMG, I hate, hate, hate most Jeep drivers. My husband and I have noticed the same thing, and when we took our kids to Panama City Beach for a combined Mother’s Day and my son’s birthday celebration, we made the mistake of going during Jeep week (unknowingly) and they were all loud, obnoxious, drunk, honking horns repeatedly at 2 AM right outside hotels where families were trying to sleep. Ridiculous. One of them even honked and screamed obscenities while we were crossing the road with our two kids!

I wouldn't say they are on par with BMW drivers as far as aggression or jerky driving... as their vehicles are not always functional and often defunct in the shop. But, Jeep owners seem to think they're more bad ass then they really are- who tips a lot during off roading? It's more likely a Jeep owner than other vehicles.

I don't know if this is a local thing or what, but a woman I am 'friends' with on Facebook is a Jeep owner, and she carts around different little rubber ducks you are supposed to leave on other people's Jeeps.

I had never heard about it before, but now I see Jeeps with hundreds of little ducks lined up all inside the interior.

R17. it seems that it started with a female Canadian Jeep owner, and has spread all over. My husband drives a Wrangler. and we've occasionally gotten 'ducked'. Jeep owners are loyal to the brand. I will say, it's a fun summer car, but we'll be retiring it as a daily driver for something more practical. Also? it feels like we got a visit from Monica (Think of the Children!) Cole of One Million Constipated Moms, at R12. Keep up all the good work you do, Monica!

I can't see OP's post – meaning it's a troll I blocked – but since I'm a car nerd: no, Jeeps aren't "the new BMWs." They've also been solidly one-upped by the retro-styled Bronco, which is the Wrangler's superior in nearly every tangible way, from driving prowess (especially on-road – Jeeps have long sucked there) to price, equipment and reliability.

The only real "change" in recent times (meaning the past decade) was adding a four-door Wrangler to the mix, which admittedly boosted sales significantly. Still, Jeeps drive like pieces of shit even on smooth roads, and they sure AF don't have all the blind-spot monitors, lane-keep assist, radar cruise control, etc. that its competition now has.

Also, Stellantis has idiotically jacked up its prices across the board, and even more idiotically attempted to make the Jeep Grand Wagoneer – a $110,000 intended competitor to the Escalade – happen. It's never sold more than 12,000 units a year (compared to 45,000 or so for the Escalade).

If anything, the Jeep Wrangler seems to have gotten a lot more popular with twentysomething women, and they can't drive even a *good* car for shit, let alone a total POS.

I hate all the little animals on the dashboard. It's as bad as if I were to have a bandana around my mirror now like I did when I was in high school.

Jeeps are an abomination on the road, as are their tiny, aggressive female and suburban never-saw-the-country "male" owners.

My brother has a Jeep Renegade and doesn't fit any of these stereotypes. He's a Democrat, hates Trump, doesn't drink (anymore), and I've never seen ducks on his dash. Other than recalls, I don't think he's had too many problems.

I see a lot of Jeep Compasses out my way. Nice looking cars.

I had a Jeep Loved, loved, loved it until I had to fix the A/C for the second time and it was about $1,000 each time just to pull the dashboard to get access.

Anyway...I'm not an asshole, but it was over 20 years ago. Maybe Jeep owners weren't as bad then. I had to sell it for parts. That last time the A/C flooded the floor wells in front of the back seats. What is it with Jeeps and the A/C?

I bought a Lexus RX and never looked back.

I'd say Land Rover drivers are on a par with those who drive BMWs and Jeeps.
