Meghan Markle's lifestyle career -- sad last days? The reviews are withering

Guardian headline:

Kiss the Netflix deal goodbye! With Love, Meghan is so pointless it might be the Sussexes’ last TV show

The link is to a DM article with summaries and quotations from a variety of publications. The nicest comment about the show? Bland.

by Anonymousreply 600March 20, 2025 1:43 PM

One comment was interesting that no one wants to see her as a vapid lifestyle person but they want to see her with claws out. Maybe she should have started as Real Housewives of Montecito if there isn't one already. I can't keep track.

by Anonymousreply 1March 4, 2025 12:29 PM

The only show like this that worked was Martha Stewart. Everything since then is a pointless imitation.

by Anonymousreply 2March 4, 2025 12:42 PM

Across the full political sprectrum, the British print media hold her up to mocking derision. As only Brits can do.

Birmingham Mail: All the Netflix With Love Meghan Reviews From “Exhausting” to “Queasy”

by Anonymousreply 4March 4, 2025 1:11 PM
a Duchess joylessly filling kids' party bags with seeds.' This was a reference to episode two when she offered tips on packing party bags to hand out at the end of a celebration, suggesting parents add 'seeds that they can plant' - and that it would 'give them something to do on the car ride home'.

Ignoring the planting seeds during the car ride home comment. I feel Archie and Lilibets birthday birthday parties aren't going to be the must go to social event of the elementary school year.

by Anonymousreply 5March 4, 2025 1:19 PM

King Charles probably has less time than she does.

by Anonymousreply 6March 4, 2025 1:20 PM

omg, I just watched the clip where Markle talks about eating at Jack in the Box as a kid and Mindy Kaling—with a straight face—says I don’t think anyone in the world know that Meghan Markle ate at Jack in the Box. Markle’s response is, It’s funny too that you keep saying Meghan Markle, YOU KNOW I’M SUSSEX NOW. And then she goes into a long speech about how since having kids, she shares her name with her children or something. It didn’t make sense.

Mindy Kaling is probably cursing her agent for getting her involved in this self-serving mess.

Clip is on DM website, scroll down, can’t link.

by Anonymousreply 7March 4, 2025 2:16 PM

Everyone seems to agree they hate her/have no interest in her/find her culturally irrelevant. Yet commercial interests just can't stop platforming her. Is it a Producers type thing?

by Anonymousreply 8March 4, 2025 2:25 PM

I watched the first episode...kind of. It was impossible to give it my full attention. It's worse than bad - it's boring and pointless. Given the level of support she was given to make this, should it be this dreary? Who--other than Meghan--thought this was a good idea.

They got paid an outrageous amount from Netflix and this is the best they can do?

They'll need to transition to full-on reality show. Their documentary and Spare are the only successes they've had. So back to tell-alls for these two.

by Anonymousreply 9March 4, 2025 2:27 PM

Her Ozempic face is working overtime in this thing.

by Anonymousreply 10March 4, 2025 2:29 PM
YOU KNOW I’M SUSSEX NOW

Didn't Harry say they were going by Mountbatten-Windsor in America? I swear I'd heard that somewhere.

by Anonymousreply 11March 4, 2025 2:39 PM

Oh please. Fuck Mindy Kaling. She knew exactly what she signed up for. No one forced her into this.

by Anonymousreply 12March 4, 2025 2:48 PM

She has announced she wants to be addressed as “Meghan Sussex” now.

Bitch, you’re only famous for marrying a prince — who then walked off the job with you dragging him in that direction.

by Anonymousreply 13March 4, 2025 2:58 PM

I don't think I can even hate watch this mess.

by Anonymousreply 14March 4, 2025 3:21 PM

I'm amazed that they still keep trying shit, they have no idea how unpopular they are? Good grief, talk about delusional.

by Anonymousreply 15March 4, 2025 3:28 PM

I'm on the second episode and I just can't watch anymore after this. It's so bad. But this is the Mindy K one and I feel as if I must soldier thru.

So, Meghan's big "tip" in this one is to get an auto pump to blow up balloons. And then we watch her blowing up balloons for 5 minutes while she tells us we can use balloons for kids parties, adult gatherings AND we can use different colors of balloons!

And her "banter" with Mindy is stilted and awkward. Meghan has absolutely nothing to offer of substance to any conversation. Here's a sample of the witty exchange in the first episode between her and her makeup artist. "It's tasty!" "Yes, it's so tasty!" "Can you believe how tasty this is?" "It's so tasty."

by Anonymousreply 16March 4, 2025 3:55 PM

This show has true potential— as the next Brenda Dickson “Welcome To My Home.” Paging comedienne Deven Green…

by Anonymousreply 17March 4, 2025 4:02 PM
I don't think I can even hate watch this mess.

Your instinct is sound. I couldn't make it past 15 minutes. The first scene is about the bees. No context, just Markle and some guy and a beehive. Finally we move inside. Her first project is preparing the guest room. The guest room she's preparing has its own bathroom of course so she starts making homemade bath salts. All this is for Daniel who will be visiting. You know Daniel, he expects the best! Then the Duchess is forced to reveal that what we've seen so far is NOT HER HOUSE so she will bringing the salts to HER house where Daniel is staying! Because the first thing we expect in a home show is that it's taking place in someone else's home. And there will be bees.

She blathers nonstop, racing through her preparations without a pause. I honestly didn't expect to give up on it so quickly.

by Anonymousreply 18March 4, 2025 4:13 PM

I didn't last long with it either. She says they've kept bees for a year yet it's obviously her first time ever going near them. Who the fuck makes bath salts for a guest? Why?

She also asks her great friend where they first met. I don't need to ask any of my friends where we first met.

The entire thing is a disaster. Reviews have been savage. She's universally loathed.

by Anonymousreply 19March 4, 2025 4:20 PM

Is it not meaningful?

by Anonymousreply 20March 4, 2025 4:23 PM

R14 Most of the reviewers are even saying that it doesn't even fall into the "it's so bad it's good" category.

by Anonymousreply 21March 4, 2025 4:24 PM

I’m so surprised and disappointed. I was really looking forward to talking about each episode with other fans.

by Anonymousreply 22March 4, 2025 4:31 PM

It's definitely not a water cooler show. More like a waterboarding.

by Anonymousreply 23March 4, 2025 4:37 PM

How can you prepare a guest room in a fake house and then … just move everything over? (I realize that’s not happening. I just can’t make it make sense.)

by Anonymousreply 24March 4, 2025 5:07 PM

r24 There's a lot of unnecessary moving things in this show

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 25March 4, 2025 5:14 PM

Miranda Hyde is savage, plus the Guardian, formerly Sussex stalwarts, has a second review that is nearly as bitchy.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 26March 4, 2025 5:17 PM

The only entertaining thing about this show would be the hours of outtakes showing her screaming about things that aren’t right. Release those and then you’ve got a series!

by Anonymousreply 27March 4, 2025 5:17 PM

All that environmentally friendly plastic at r25. Does she not know that there are small biodegradable paper bags for such things? They even come in festive colors. I guess that would have meant a special trip to Party City in a motorcade with a couple of large SUVs.

And r25 isn't kidding about unnecessary movements. She turns her back to the camera twice to go to the pantry and then to scurry all the way to the other side of the kitchen to fetch another item. I've never seen a Food Network cook turn their backs to the camera so much and not have ingredients/items at hands reach. Those are two glaring and easily correctable production problems.

by Anonymousreply 28March 4, 2025 6:38 PM

I especially liked the part where she took some pretzels from one plastic bag and put them into another plastic bag. It changed my life.

by Anonymousreply 29March 4, 2025 6:55 PM

Op, go away troll.

by Anonymousreply 30March 4, 2025 7:17 PM

Thanks for the reminder. I have no intention of watching this drivel, but I did go on Netflix now to give it a 👎

by Anonymousreply 31March 4, 2025 7:18 PM

Why can’t she enjoy her ginger dick and money and leave us alone?

by Anonymousreply 32March 4, 2025 7:23 PM

Thanks for bumping, r30.

Marina Hyde notes how much she uses religious language.
Time is described as “sacred”, practices are “rituals”, people are continually feeling “blessed”, snacks are “an offering”, the emphasis is on “honouring” this or that.

Even the trash, which she refers to as a “garbage vessel.” Not kidding.

by Anonymousreply 33March 4, 2025 7:24 PM

Which episode features Doria rolling joints?

by Anonymousreply 34March 4, 2025 7:26 PM

She and Harry are supposed to appear in the last episode and effusively congratulate Meghan for her accomplishments, r34.

Now that is something I'd watch. Harry and Doria toking away deep in some conversation.

by Anonymousreply 35March 4, 2025 7:33 PM

On my FB feed WWD, Vogue, Town & Country and AD all promote this bish 24/7. It's ridiculous.

She's got some PR deals in place, for sure, because this attention is NOT ORGANIC or deserved.

by Anonymousreply 36March 4, 2025 7:42 PM

She and the consort should be ignored.

They're both a disgrace.

by Anonymousreply 37March 4, 2025 7:48 PM

A plate with slices of bacon. What’s that about? Did she grow and slaughter the designer pigs herself?

What pretentious crap. Well plated crap.

by Anonymousreply 38March 4, 2025 7:50 PM

So am I to assume that the average DLer doesn’t have hives of bees in their 3 acre backyard somewhere past the lemon orchard?

by Anonymousreply 39March 4, 2025 7:58 PM

I'd honestly be more confused finding someone here has actually made their own bath salts which is something I've never heard of anybody doing before than that they own an apiary.

by Anonymousreply 40March 4, 2025 8:05 PM

Another Guardian savaging.

They normally avoid royal stuff, but I suppose they couldn't resist.

by Anonymousreply 41March 4, 2025 8:14 PM

I agree that Meghan should ditch the artifice and show her true self. These are the new 80s. Everybody loves a bitch. And she has tried everything else and failed, so what does she have to lose?

by Anonymousreply 42March 4, 2025 8:14 PM

A special bonus episode has been added to the series.

It features Meghan Sussex putting together a basket of bananas with inspirational sayings to gift to Mikey Madison for her Academy Award winning portrayal of a sex worker.

by Anonymousreply 43March 4, 2025 8:28 PM

Dear hoodness, she claims to draw inspiration from genetically programmed insects. She grasps for faux-meaning in everything.
the Duchess of Sussex, who only started beekeeping a year ago but already has “good vibes for good hives”, also sees them as a reminder to do something that scares you a little bit.

by Anonymousreply 44March 4, 2025 8:38 PM

Variety is NOT a fan.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 45March 4, 2025 8:43 PM

The Variety review is delicious. "The show plays out like a forced march, one in which Meghan’s guests must, as the price of getting to share an afternoon in a made-for-TV kitchen with her, praise her first."

Since it's Hollywood's main industry rag, it's gotta smart Mrs. Sussex.

by Anonymousreply 46March 4, 2025 8:48 PM

She is just so fucking fake

by Anonymousreply 47March 4, 2025 8:52 PM

Wow, she cannot even get hate traffic. Had she released this a couple a years ago we would have already made it to the Part 2 thread. People are bored with her antics.

by Anonymousreply 48March 4, 2025 8:59 PM

So basically Netflix paid $100 Million for Meghan to talk about ice cubes?!

by Anonymousreply 49March 4, 2025 9:00 PM

Ouch.
Harry & Meghan would have made an amazing 00s VH1 reality show, full of bitchy asides to camera and gratuitous sound effects. There was an unignorable trashiness at its core, an opportunistic desperation for attention that couldn’t be quenched.

by Anonymousreply 50March 4, 2025 9:01 PM

R49, not ice cubes. FLOWERS in ice cubes. (Netflix has denied that they paid the Sussexes anywhere near $100 million.)

by Anonymousreply 51March 4, 2025 9:05 PM

People are watching episode 2 already? Has Netflix released all the episodes at once?

by Anonymousreply 52March 4, 2025 9:05 PM

Yeah, Netflix dumped them all at once. They want to be done with this mess. This was the last project in the hopper.

by Anonymousreply 53March 4, 2025 9:08 PM

The Guardian just eviscerated her in every piece, and they're usually the most likely to defend her. This is brutal.

by Anonymousreply 54March 4, 2025 9:12 PM

No way would I watch but I did listen to HG Tudor's recap of each episode. He uses the "vacuous" a lot.

by Anonymousreply 55March 4, 2025 9:14 PM

Does this series include cotillion gifts wrapped with stiff canvas and grosgrain ribbon?

by Anonymousreply 56March 4, 2025 9:18 PM

Ouch.
“Thank you for loving me so much and for celebrating with me,” she tells the assembled parties at the season-closing brunch... Like Oakland, regarding the DoS: There's no "there" there. Why watch her?

She isn't beautiful. She isn't learned. She has no expertise. She is a dilettante, a poseur, an arriviste.

by Anonymousreply 58March 4, 2025 9:23 PM

And she shows too many teeth when smiling.

by Anonymousreply 59March 4, 2025 9:26 PM

R20, It's demure.

by Anonymousreply 60March 4, 2025 9:30 PM

Flowers in ice cubes? What's the point of trying to enjoy a nice, refreshing beverage when you have to pick bits of flower out of your mouth? Not a good "mouth feel" as they say on actual cooking shows.

by Anonymousreply 61March 4, 2025 9:36 PM

R58, she’s fascinating in that we’ve rarely seen someone last for years in the public eye without anything to offer. And she’s not even sympathetic in her incompetence. You never look at her and cringe with empathetic embarrassment, because you know she’d never feel anything about you.

by Anonymousreply 62March 4, 2025 9:37 PM

She's utterly vapid. Typical Cali bimbo. There's nothing there.

by Anonymousreply 63March 4, 2025 9:39 PM

I don't really think that Meghan knows who she is. She is a narc with zero self awareness. She literally does not seem to know how shallow and self involved she comes across

I was rooting for her initially because the British press was racist and vile. It became apparent that she uses people, discards people and is a social climber extraordinaire. I am biracial and I found it odd that she had NOT ONE black friend through high school and uni. That to me was a conscious choice.

Don't like her - sorry.

by Anonymousreply 64March 4, 2025 9:40 PM

The moving of the pretzels from one labeled bag to another new one is pretty hilarious.

I also love the fact that it's not actually shot in Meghan's actual home.

This is probably the final nail in the coffin for the celebrity influencer craze of the first 25 years of the century.

by Anonymousreply 65March 4, 2025 9:45 PM

The irony. She first tasted fame when she wrote a company about its sexist portrayal of women.

And now she seeks fame as a Hausfrau Extraordinaire.

by Anonymousreply 66March 4, 2025 9:49 PM

She's been beekeeping for the past year? Right, she can't even harvest the honey combs correctly. More lies and dissembling. Outtakes show her not even wearing the full set of protective clothing, though neither is the photographer. The hives were at the rented farmhouse.

Most of what I saw were cluttered messes that were supposed to be "decor", her inept kitchen skills (especially using a knife), the dangling hair and jewelry when meal prepping. Her video voice is very grating.

by Anonymousreply 67March 4, 2025 9:51 PM

What an evisceration. Whatever will they do now?

by Anonymousreply 68March 4, 2025 9:55 PM

She will no doubt find someone to blame for all her failures... "I never wanted to do that kind of show. I was all set to film a 6 part series on the civil war in South Sudan. But they said "that won't rate!". I was pressured into doing this show instead of covering topics that I know truly matter!"

by Anonymousreply 69March 4, 2025 9:56 PM

As an above poster said, Martha Stewart did this kind of thing perfectly and nobody has ever been able to come near the level of talent and skill that she has.

by Anonymousreply 70March 4, 2025 9:56 PM

It’s time for Meghan and Harry to do Dancing with the Stars. Then yes, she should launch a new Housewives show. But she sadly has zero common sense, so neither one will happen.

by Anonymousreply 71March 4, 2025 9:57 PM

Watching now. This is pretty bad. She has no charm. Daniel is putting a LOT of lemon zest in that pasta.

Martha Stewart did so very well because, despite not being a remotely likeable person, she actually CARED about great decors, glorious gardens, elegantly set tables, and what not. She has an amazing eye for detail yet manages to make everything look almost effortless. Martha takes it seriously, and that gave her shows (and magazine) a unique quality and depth.

MeAgain, on the other hand… No class, no grace, no taste. And you can tell she’s not really into anything she does. It’s all for the cameras. That includes her dimwit husband.

I hadn't noticed this before because the picture in the OP is cropped, but this is Meghan valiantly (and probably defiantly) holding a knife the wrong way. Look at where her index finger is! Not only that, she's using a [italic]paring knife[/italic] to cut up an onion. I'm sure she received advice about knife skills and safety, but no.

This is sort of the lifestyle version of "My Little Pony," where the show existed to promote product. Her line will consist of herbal teas, honey, jam, dried flower sprinkles and shortbread and crepe mixes. So nondescript that I don't even think QVC would go near it. I think she wears her neediness and ambitions on her sleeve. It's so interesting that she would knock herself out to create one type of image and succeed in creating one of desperation, insincerity and greed. Maybe this will trigger a wave of sympathy for her.

Who is her audience?

by Anonymousreply 80March 4, 2025 10:45 PM
When informed that the dumplings she may dress in said chili oil are called “ingots” for their resemblance to forged bits of gold, she replies, “I love hearing the meaningful stories behind things!”

How I wish Princess Margaret was around to handle this cunt.

by Anonymousreply 82March 4, 2025 10:49 PM

*sigh*

Could have. Should have.

I'm not White. I have no doubt that some of the staff, extended members of the Royal Family, and some of Harry's friends are bigots, and treated Markle accordingly.

The UK tabloids also were mean as gutter snakes.

Still, if they had toughed it out, come to terms with their positions, and learned to be working Royals, right now, the Sussexes would be occupying rarefied positions, world fame and mere celebrity show-folk hustling for relevance would be beneath them.

At a London premier or charity gala, A-listers would be waiting in line for their acknowledgment and handshake.

And, oh, by the way, they would be "spared" the headaches, responsibilities and 24 and 7 weight of wearing a Crown and Tiara; a fate awaiting William and Kate.

Now Markle is back where she started, just another C-List, aging, irrelevant striver with no moves left.

And overall, I blame Harry more than her.

by Anonymousreply 83March 4, 2025 10:51 PM

as privileged as it is her life sounds exhausting. The shit you'll eat to stay famous is always worse than the shit you eat to stay famous.

by Anonymousreply 84March 4, 2025 10:52 PM

Has "meaningful" become the new "mindful"?

by Anonymousreply 85March 4, 2025 10:53 PM

The Guardian article referred to her as, “ manic pixie dream duchess,” which made me laugh out loud.

by Anonymousreply 86March 4, 2025 10:54 PM

Interesting that Mindy Kaling is on an episode. She was on Dax Shepard’s podcast released today and told him she doesn’t do podcasts at all. She said she was panned for the only previous podcast she ever did. Wasn’t that Megan Markle’s podcast on Spotify?

by Anonymousreply 87March 4, 2025 10:57 PM

I want to know what was going through Mindy Kaling’s head as she pretended she needed to be shown how to make a rainbow out of fruit.

by Anonymousreply 88March 4, 2025 10:58 PM

Mindy Kaling would have been thrilled to be in the “royal circle” before it all went spectacularly toxic. She is another desperate Ozempiced narcissist. Though she at least worked for a living as actor, writer and producer.

by Anonymousreply 89March 4, 2025 11:09 PM

Oh, Meghan. How many times will she have to reinvent herself? Nobody wants her as a politician (!), nobody wants her as an activist, nobody wants her as a lifestyle guru...what's left? Maybe both she and Harry will have to (gulp!) go out and get a real job.

by Anonymousreply 90March 4, 2025 11:12 PM

The "lifestyle guru" thing is so tired and cliche.

by Anonymousreply 91March 4, 2025 11:13 PM

"...what's left"?

I can answer that. A divorce and Markle's book.

by Anonymousreply 92March 4, 2025 11:15 PM

Next: Meghan has Elon Musk's baby.

by Anonymousreply 93March 4, 2025 11:16 PM

Does she cook any Nigerian food on her show to honor her 43% Nigerian heritage? How about traditional Maltese food? She claimed to also be Maltese at one point for a free trip and PR.

R89, EVERYONE in entertainment is on Ozempic. Geez, if Lizzo can drop 100 lbs, why not? Mindy Kaling is pretty successful, I think she has a ton of producing and writing credits to her name besides acting. It’s odd that she’s on this show. She certainly doesn’t need to be.

Side note: I was watching YouTube videos by the former Royal Chef Darren McGrady who also cooked for Diana, William and Harry.

Darren said William and Harry loved spaghetti bolognese ("spaggy bol") and he made it for them often. One time William and Harry were in the kitchen when they were young and he was preparing spaghetti bolognese for them. Darren trying to be funny told them the anecdote about throwing a piece of spaghetti against the wall to see if it sticks. Harry then reaches over and takes all the spaghetti from the bowl and throws it against the wall. This left Darren without any spaghetti to serve the Wales for dinner so he went and took the spaghetti that had been designated for the servants' meal to serve the Wales and then was left scrambling to prepare something else for the servants dinner.

by Anonymousreply 106March 5, 2025 1:28 AM

R83, the UK tabloids have always been unspeakably cruel. They were cruel to Diana, they were cruel to Catherine. They’ve harassed almost everyone in the Royal Family. The evidence was right there in front of her before she married Harry.

This is absolutely the crux of why she's so hard to take, R74. Well said. She lives in the expectation that we will find her so interesting, so admirable, her efforts so praiseworthy, and yet she doesn't really seem to believe in any of it herself.

Breaking news…products are on the website (but not yet for sake). And what a bizarre collection they are. And only 8 products. Not sure how they’ll pay the mortgage thru this scheme. And, yes, we now have an answer to why she throws edible flowers on everything she cooks on the show…because she’s selling dried flowers in her tiny store.

Wow, tea, jam, and crepe mix. How fascinatingly original, and how I itch to get my hands on those life-changing products! I am promised to be the first to know when they go on sale if I sign up for their mailing list ... but won't my registration with American Riviera Orchard stand me in good stead with "As Ever"? I must know!

SussexRoyal, Archewell, American Riviera Orchard, As Ever: Am I missing any brands they've tried?

But alas she is phoney and clueless.

Della at R83, you assume she wanted all those things. I assume she wanted to be rich and famous and to enjoy it all amongst the beautiful people in southern California. She achieved that. The husband was a means to that end.

I agree that the next move is divorce + book.

by Anonymousreply 134March 5, 2025 10:53 AM

Poor Daniel, huddled, frightened, among a group of camera men before being pushed into the rent-a-kitchen’s glaring spotlight like a terrified sacrifice at the colosseum. Forced to marvel at the arrangement of vegetables before him. He’d just never seen peas presented in shells before. It was all so overwhelming. It was then that I switched to the OJ documentary. Less brutal.

Tangent: Bath salts.

Does anyone who doesn’t have a housecleaner actually appreciate this product? I was once given (or “gifted” in current parlance) a set of these. Nice enough but I shower, and a year or two when I finally did draw a bath and use them, they smelled nice enough but left quite a salty chalky residue all over the sides of the tub.

Joy, Rapture! Spring is around the corner, and Mrs. Harry Mountbatten-Windsor of Montecito, CA, USA can tell us how much we can all love her.

Stick a fork in Harry and Meghan, they are done. From the reviews, her level of narcissism has achieved even greater heights (or is it sunk to greater depths?).

Where do they go from here? She won't do what she married into. Her in-laws don't want them back. She should go back to acting. Of course, Meghan wants the Big Screen and Oscar-worthy roles, but she is not an Oscar-worthy actress.

Lifetime movies. She'd be perfect in the role of the crazy ex-girlfriend, plotting to kill her ex's wife...typical fare you find on Lifetime.

As for him, trot him out as arm candy for when she's nominated for Razzies.

by Anonymousreply 139March 5, 2025 1:10 PM

She's too old for Lifetime movies.

by Anonymousreply 140March 5, 2025 1:13 PM

Too bad she won't embrace an acting role as a villain.

And to appease her sense of self-serving piety, the villain could have secret benevolent impulses that they act upon, once in a while.

True, she doesn't have the presence and skill of Heather Locklear in her "Melrose Place" heyday, and she's not on the same planet as that Goddess Venassa Williams in her Wilhelmina Slater role, but maybe with the good writing and good director she could pull it off.

But as someone else pointed out, you need a bit of a self-aware sense of humor which is absent from Markle.

by Anonymousreply 141March 5, 2025 1:33 PM

R66 That made me like her and think she might be principled indeed. It is ironic, though, that that fledgling feminist grew up to be a domestic goddess who clings onto the title of Duchess despite denouncing the bestowers as deplorable.

by Anonymousreply 142March 5, 2025 1:33 PM

Too funny, R125 you're a cunt.

I've been to the UK many times, have friends there and I read their press more than ours. The US is absurdly and overtly racist, UK racism is subtle and thus more insidious.

The people in my country elected a fascist but I certainly didn't and neither did anyone I know. I can comment on the UK while still acknowledging the United States reality.

Enjoy your day you absolute weapon.

R143. There is if course racism in the UK. And you would find racist reactions from a few people in private and online from nut jobs but if you think there was any racism from the mainstream press or British institutions in response to their marriage, you are talking nonsense. The British public overwhelmingly welcomed the marriage. The royal family suspended protocols that applied to her white sister-in-law. If there had been any racism in the mainstream press other than the straight out of Compton, it would have been cited by now. You are taking nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 157March 5, 2025 2:41 PM

Agree with your description of MK, R150. She is also EP of another show that just premiered on Netflix. She might have been 'encouraged' to participate in Meghan's show much like other people who have participated in Meghan's projects have similar ties, such as shared agencies, but no real personal connection.

by Anonymousreply 158March 5, 2025 2:44 PM

The kids aren’t usually into this kind of show, regardless of who you are or what guy you married. R169 Her spotify podcast debuted at number one .... a year later she was canned. My guess is that the first episode is where the majority of the viewing minutes are. I highly doubt very few people got beyond the first one. My money is that it's already peaked and will be off the top 10 quickly.

by Anonymousreply 170March 5, 2025 6:03 PM

No way Netflix gives this a second season. Honestly, debuting at #6 in the States is only a moderate success. She needed to hit number one out of the gate. Most of it viewership is probably being driven by curiosity of how bad is it really. Netflix's decision on renewing shows is largely based on "completion rate." How many viewers actually watched the whole batch of episodes. I can't see a large percentage of people watching all eight episodes.

I think Netflix might try to save face by giving Archwell a "first approach deal." Meaning Netflix will be given access first to any future productions but not actually funding them outright.

I was curious whether the show is scripted or not. Correcting Mindy Kaling when she refers to "Meghan Markle" by saying she goes by Sussex, her children's names, seemed like it was. Meghan wanted the point about her identity made.

But then there's this exchange. I didn't watch so I can't be sure how uncomfortable it was, but there's a barely disguised undercurrent of hostility. "How dare you not appreciate me! You're not as caring or as good a parent as I am!" She cannot help herself. "Tinkerbell" did not conform with her narcissistic self-image and couldn't restrain herself from striking back. Yeah, Kaling was roped into this as a contractual obligation to Netflix.
The best episode is with television star Mindy Kaling, who at one point asks with a hint of an edge in her voice: ‘Are you Tinkerbell?’ The duchess attempts to convince Kaling that she’s just a normal gal, who grew up eating Taco Bell and microwave dinners. But then Meghan ruins it by asking, [italic] ‘I don’t know if you go all out for your kids’ parties?’. [/italic] And Kaling replies in a deadpan voice: ‘The woman I hire does.’ Whoo, meow! 😾
Other planning tips for a kids’ birthday party include a parents’ coffee bar with a garden motif on the to-go cups. ‘I’m always thinking about the parent experience’, she says with an unsettling gravity.

Can someone explain the oft-quoted $100 million deal?

I assumed that was a measure of its maximum potential value reflecting performance bonuses that might not be achieved and that the number , included what Netflix paid in production and promotional costs, not that Netflix actually paid them $100 million. Is that right?

by Anonymousreply 194March 5, 2025 9:36 PM

You can tell Meghan really enjoys bossing people around. Instead of speaking directly to the audience, she invites her cherished “friends” to a house that isn’t hers and lectures them on the brilliance of adding olive oil, lemon juice and salt to every, single, fucking recipe.

She’s one of those people whose social interactions are based almost entirely on obligation and coercion. No one is around her for the pleasure of her company. It’s hilarious because she thinks of herself as such a thoughtful and generous hostess.

by Anonymousreply 195March 5, 2025 9:58 PM

She just has an upleasant, strident and coarse personality.

Her voice is also very unpleasant and shrill. I watched clips of that Disney elephant documentary she narrated and if I didn't know who she was, I would've thought she was a nepotistic hire or she was screwing the producer. She's totally unsuitable for voice-over work.

by Anonymousreply 196March 5, 2025 10:06 PM
Meghan ruins it by asking, ‘I don’t know if you go all out for your kids’ parties?’

by Anonymousreply 197March 5, 2025 10:15 PM

Mindy’s answer was priceless.

by Anonymousreply 198March 5, 2025 10:19 PM

You can blame Harry for that one, r196. He practically bushwhacked Bob Iger at the Lion King premiere in the receiving line. Right there in public with the cameras recording the interaction. "Do you know my wife does voice over work?" Iger: "Nooo, I didn't." You could see Iger's wife's eyes almost pop out of her head before she quickly regained composure.

Shitty thing (on top of audiences having to hear her voice) is that she took the job of a working actor. IIRC, there was some controversy about whether the Sussexes donated her salary to an elephant charity as they promised.

by Anonymousreply 199March 5, 2025 10:23 PM

R194, this was fantasy by the Sussexes. They, not Netflix, announced that they had signed a deal that might be worth “up to” $100 million. Well, any deal in Hollywood MIGHT be worth that much. Obviously the actual contract was structured as you suggest. That was confirmed later, but everyone keeps repeating the $100 million figure. In the Vanity Fair story last month, Netflix said “on the record” that the deal was not worth $100 million.

Once Charles became king, the Sussexes insisted that their children be officially given their full titles as grandchildren of the monarch through the male line, and there was no way this could really be denied them since this is the codified practice.

So when Elizabeth II died, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor became Prince Archie of Sussex, and Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor became Princess Lilibet of Sussex.

by Anonymousreply 207March 5, 2025 11:22 PM

Speaking of the name "Lilibet", from everything I've read of QE II, it was a closely held, "private", if you will, nickname for her.

My understanding is that only her parents, Princess Margaret, Prince Phillip, and a handful of other assorted close blood relatives could use it.

So, I believe the reports that when the Sussexes used it to name their daughter, Q E II was not pleased, which is why the Sussexes defended it by saying they had her permission.

I think they lied about that and Q E II, of course, didn't publicly contradict them, as the Sussexes knew she wouldn't.

From the credible reports I read, the Sussexes merely informed the Queen, which isn't "permission".

True, they have the right to name their child whatever they please, but I have the right to my thoughts about it.

The child's name is Lilibet Diana because it reinforces what the Sussexes need for themselves- reminding everybody of their connection to Q E II and Diana.

What a lovely, subtle gesture if they had named their daughter, say, Dorry Frances Spencer, thereby honoring the child's African American grandmother and Princess Diana.

Has anybody visited the As Ever website and tried to check out the products? When I clicked on a product, I was asked to register. I tried with a bogus email address, but it didn't work. I'm curious about pricing and the obtuse, flowery language she uses in the descriptions.

by Anonymousreply 209March 5, 2025 11:44 PM

Everyone needs to step off poor Meg's back. The reason everything she does is so lame and half assed is because her son pleaded with her "Don't work so hard momma". Prince Archie has spoken.

by Anonymousreply 210March 5, 2025 11:55 PM
[R178], Doria is very attractive, almost beautiful. It must have been hard for Meghan growing up.

She also looks heavily stoned and under the influence.

I suspect having an absentee total stoner mother must have been harder on the young Meghan when Doria inexplicably disappeared from her life, leaving Papa Thomas to take on the load rather than Doria and her "beauty."

I've heard a couple of theories why Doria mostly managed to disappear during Meghan's later childhood and teenage years. One was that she was a felon in the California State prison system, but nobody came up with the goods because it's a public matter.

That Doria evaded taxes on her goods on the job as a "makeup artist" makes more sense. It would also explain Meghan's user status. Doria gave birth and trained her how to use people, especially "yt" folks to exploit.

Biggest exploitation, rejecting her father and embracing dubious Doria.

Simplest explanation, Doria was suspected of being a drug dealer who evaded taxes and wound up in the Federal system for tax fraud and dealing. Reason why she didn't turn up in California prison rolls. Look to the Feds

by Anonymousreply 211March 6, 2025 5:13 AM

Apparently she was introduced on the Drew Barrymore show as "Meghan Sussex." So she's rebranding herself.

The problem for her is that she has a very limited band of possible fans. The women interested in the trad-wife influencer shtick are her natural haters; the women who loved her for standing up for women's rights and against the monarchy won't love her constant use of "Duchess" and "Prince/Princess" for her brats and now a royal title as her last name. She probably can't win any newbies over once they see how awkward and pretentious she is.

by Anonymousreply 212March 6, 2025 5:24 AM

I wonder if Meghan will attribute all the negative reviews to jealousy… to people hating her for being beautiful and uncommonly talented.

by Anonymousreply 213March 6, 2025 5:47 AM
The women interested in the trad-wife influencer shtick are her natural haters; the women who loved her for standing up for women's rights and against the monarchy won't love her constant use of "Duchess"

The women who haven't a hibiscus flower available might not concur.

How would he know, he was out of the house by the time she was 7 or 8. That’s another thing she’s saddled the public with, her awful half-siblings. Has Pa moved to Thailand yet?

by Anonymousreply 215March 6, 2025 9:32 AM

She’s an embarrassing cunt.

by Anonymousreply 216March 6, 2025 10:19 AM

This was in one of the Guardian articles:

"much is made of Meghan’s wrong-side-of-the-LA-tracks origin story, as a fast-food eating latchkey kid"

What a load of crap. She had a best friend who she went home with every day after school most days. That's the same girl who Meghan usurped at her birthday party by tealing her crown and making everyone suck up to her (Meghan).

Once a week MM was allowed to watch her father work on the Married, With Children set after school.

She went to expensive schools and her father paid for her to take dance and tap lessons, then he'd take her to Frank and Musso for lunch. I feel so sorry for him watching this, but he is better off without her.

The Harkles are so stupid. Instead of giving the first interviews to Oprah, Dax Shepard, etc, they should have saved those revelations (now known to be BS) for Netflix and Spotify. And what dumb cunts for shitting on all their relatives bar one.

What utter losers.

by Anonymousreply 217March 6, 2025 12:42 PM

R211, the so-called prison stay has been debunked many, many times. Prison records are a matter of public record, there would be records of her stay. Say what you want about her being stoned (and who could blame her?) but she never went to prison.

by Anonymousreply 218March 6, 2025 1:01 PM

The subreddit popped up as a suggestion in my feed (I don't follow anything related to these two - don't care). There are plenty of glowing reviews - I wonder if they are all written by bots? Or are they real fraus?
I got up and started cooking while watching the show. I couldn’t even help it!
Honestly the show inspired me to do home projects I’ve been meaning to do for ages.
I'm hardly domestic, but in the middle of a stressful week. Having this on in the background for my nighttime pumping session was PERFECT.
It was so what I needed in my life. The live, intentional, beauty, simplicity, elegance and good vibes. I’m actually limiting myself to one episode a day in order to full savor the experience and I’m going to rewatch the first one. This time with candles and tea. She had every right to disappear and enjoy her life after how she has been treated. But here she is sending everyone love. I totally get why Harry will follow her around the world. She just glows love and respect.

by Anonymousreply 219March 6, 2025 1:04 PM

I think she doesn't really know what she wants to do.

If Meghan had a passion, THEN maybe she could find a profit in it. I mean, Martha Stewart may have endured parodies about her "farm to table, living room, and everywhere else" self-involvement style, but she felt it, lived it, shared it. Domesticity Perfected.

So what is it Meghan is truly interested in for herself that is not a platitude, not a superficial sentiment, not a Sharpie on a banana? Not just a money grab?

Diana was a girl who matured into a woman who walked the talk and showed us not to fear helping others, from AIDS patients to those threatened by hidden landmines. We all know her flaws and faults by now, but she nonetheless has a profound legacy. Noblesse Oblige Perfected.

Meghan has not lived authentically in the manner in which she seeks to be perceived. Hence, the scathing criticism of others.

by Anonymousreply 220March 6, 2025 1:04 PM

She’s all over the place. Pious save the world platitudes, refugee from racist royal family, humorless podcaster, holiday humanitarian, now aspiring fussy lifestyle Instagrammer hoping to flog overpriced condiments in a very crowded market. She needed to be famous, that was her entire focus. Just famous, nothing else. It’s a kid’s idea of success.

by Anonymousreply 221March 6, 2025 1:44 PM

r219, you should soothe your eyes with the "Saintmeghanmarkle" sub.

by Anonymousreply 222March 6, 2025 1:57 PM

Apparently the show has already fallen out of the top 10 in both the US and UK. Can anyone confirm. In Canada it's still listed as number 4.

by Anonymousreply 223March 6, 2025 3:40 PM

It's at number 5 in the US...behind a month-old documentary on the murder of Gabby Petito.

by Anonymousreply 224March 6, 2025 3:43 PM

That's one of the issues about crowing about mid week viewing figures in March on a streaming app it may be top 5. But that doesn't actually say how many people are watching

by Anonymousreply 225March 6, 2025 3:46 PM

As someone who tried to make it through one episode, I am guessing there are not a lot of people intersted in this, especially since the United States is going straight down the shitter and no has the time or money to invest in this garbage.

by Anonymousreply 226March 6, 2025 4:12 PM
So what is it Meghan is truly interested in for herself that is not a platitude, not a superficial sentiment, not a Sharpie on a banana? Not just a money grab?

She wants to be famous and revered by all, in perpetuity. That is her passion. She obviously loathes having to present any justification for her ambitions; she thinks she should be celebrated purely for her performative 'niceness'. But her 'performative niceness' is utterly transparent and as such she fails. There a billions of people on the face of the earth, famous or not, that are genuinely nice.

by Anonymousreply 230March 6, 2025 4:55 PM

I watched all the episodes last night. She's got no charm at all, but I did enjoy the flower arranging. She doesn't seem to connect with her friends very well. It was mostly generic shit she did. All of that said I kept watching and kind of enjoyed it in a weird way.

I'm intrigued by this "nighttime pumping session" the reviewer mentions, R219.

by Anonymousreply 235March 6, 2025 5:37 PM

I'm sure the devastating reviews made people tune in. She's about the neediest, thirstiest person I've ever encountered next to Trump. Trump makes the idea of a calm, prosperous, carefree life inconceivable. I've done lots of crafts and cooking in my life, but none of it can make this shitstorm go away. My idea of self-care is sleeping and not saying "Shit" when I realize I'm awake.

Even going on TV to promote her stupid show is obscene.

by Anonymousreply 236March 6, 2025 6:10 PM

I got a report back from someone in her 80s, who enjoyed kimchee making in Ep 3, saying it was a welcome break from politics.

She’s a staunch Dem who used to read the Tig blog and now won’t even watch The Crown in defiance of the monarchy’s treatment of Mrs. Sussex of the Montecito Sussexes.

by Anonymousreply 237March 6, 2025 6:56 PM

Someone in her then 70s was reading the Tig blog?

r235, it's not what you think it is. It's breast pumping.

by Anonymousreply 241March 6, 2025 8:35 PM

The stuff at r219 is a brilliant parody. A tired, stressed out frau with an infant bounds up to start cooking mid-episode and is suddenly inspired to do "home projects." The pumping session is the giveway. I daresay it could have been written by a DLer. [Arching eyebrow]

I've had a couple of friends with nursing infants tell me the exhaustion is pretty intense and finding time to any self care would be impossible if their spouse didn't step in.

by Anonymousreply 242March 6, 2025 9:09 PM

Malicious Meg and her halfwit husband have no substance, no talent, no charisma and no integrity. They aren't even particularly attractive to look at especially Friar Tuck Harry. That's a recipe for failure.

by Anonymousreply 243March 6, 2025 9:18 PM

But they’re Royals!

by Anonymousreply 244March 6, 2025 9:21 PM

Meg connives and connives yet the only win she has had is bagging an angry, juvenile, drug addled, dimwit ginger Prince no one else wanted.

Reportedly early in her relationship with dimwit Harry, Meg tried to convince William to give her secret flying lessons so she could surprise Harry. William declined. Camilla also put a stop to Meg just dropping by Clarence House for tea with Charles when no one else was around. Her machinations don't work with people with basic intelligence.

by Anonymousreply 245March 6, 2025 9:25 PM

I barely made it thru the first episode and watched a bit of the Mindy K episode. It has no energy and Meghan seems…frazzled? Annoyed at having to do this? Completely unable to connect with other humans?

I was struck by how much Mindy was managing Meghan—pivoting to safe topics when Meghan was prickly or disengaged. My guess is that that “email relationship” is over.

She had the power of Netflix behind her and the biggest name she could score was Mindy, who I like but not a shining star.

I think I’ll try to watch the one with Abigail Spencer because they’re allegedly friends and I’d like to see if she’s less robotic with someone she has a relationship with.

by Anonymousreply 246March 6, 2025 9:56 PM

Someone needs to counsel this ridiculous construction that endless self-absorption and malicious ambition are signs of psychiatric disorders, not virtues.

And Maybe-Mocha is NOT Black.

by Anonymousreply 247March 6, 2025 10:00 PM

Interesting that both Serena and Mindy have kids around the same ages as Archie and Lili yet no photos of the backs of their heads all playing together. Instead Lili plays Candyland with adult Serena and not Serena's daughters??

by Anonymousreply 248March 6, 2025 10:01 PM
Reportedly early in her relationship with dimwit Harry, Meg tried to convince William to give her secret flying lessons so she could surprise Harry. William declined.

William knew what she was all about from day one. He saw right through her for the grifter she is. He's always disliked her.

by Anonymousreply 249March 6, 2025 10:13 PM

Maybe he declined because knowing how to fly and teaching someone how to fly are two completely different skill sets. I don't think his refusal is proof that he hated Meg from the beginning.

by Anonymousreply 250March 6, 2025 10:17 PM

My takeaways:

How can covering pasta with boiling water cook it? Maybe Angel hair? I make many a light primavera by boiling then adding the pasta to cherry tomatoes and greens just by tossing them with the hot pasta. Is that so hard?

Mindy and Meghan look like sisters now

Meghan’s hair looks terrible with the hairy crown on top

by Anonymousreply 251March 6, 2025 10:21 PM

Oh please, it wasn't about the actual learning to fly. She was trying to get close to William. To cause problems between him and Catherine, to make Harry jealous and to start rumors that William was spending time alone with her and in love with her. She also wanted to work on patronages with William, just the two of them. In her demented mind she was hoping for a global soap opera type scandal a la Guiding Light or The Bold and The Beautiful where the two brothers would fight over her.

Cosigning r139 & r157. Why cant she just go back to acting? She has a nice look and is a completely serviceable actress. While she may not deliver Oscar worthy performances, I can see her landing a regular role on any number of TV shows, some movies, and fitting well into the Hollywood scene.

The major internal BRF drama has died down to its lowest levels in a long time, so she really can't say she is scared of being interviewed or doing red carpets anymore.

I just made the easiest one dish pasta meal ever. Baked Mac n cheese. Melt stick of butter in 9x13 pan. Add 2 cups Uncooked macaroni, mix it around with butter, spread out and cover with 2 cups shredded cheese, seasonings (I added a little Worcestershire, dry mustard, hot sauce, minced onion and garlic), pour 4 cups milk over all, do not stir. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 min, then lower heat to 325 and bake for 45 minutes.

by Anonymousreply 271March 7, 2025 3:40 AM

Thomas Markle is a piece of shit. A good person wouldn’t go out of his way to humiliate his daughter on the world stage.

Meghan has NPD, which is caused by childhood abuse, abandonment, and neglect. Perhaps Doria wasn’t able to be a good mother to her when she was young and her father alternately abused and spoiled her. Look at his other two children.

by Anonymousreply 272March 7, 2025 3:46 AM

Yeah I think British tabloid reporters would have told us if Doria spent time in the US prison system. I think those reporters would’ve gotten that story if it was there.

by Anonymousreply 273March 7, 2025 3:49 AM

I really like Mindy Kaling. Her show was one of the best sitcoms in the past 20 years. I liked her writing on The Office too and her character. She’s smart and sharp. Charismatic.
Thomas Markle is a piece of shit. A good person wouldn’t go out of his way to humiliate his daughter on the world stage.

It’s disgusting when the parents of people like Joran van der Sloot or Brian Laundrie try to protect their child. I admire someone like Thomas Markle instead speaking out and acknowledging that their offspring, in this case Meghan, is a monster.

by Anonymousreply 275March 7, 2025 3:58 AM

Two of my favorite comedic actors were on The Mindy Show: Anders Holmes and Ike Barinholtz. She wrote unusual characters and cast them perfectly. I like Adam Pally in the show too.

How did he humiliate her? Are you talking about those dumb tabloid photos? Embarrassing, yes but if she had a sense of humor, she could laugh it off. No, I think they fell out after her first marriage. Until then, Daddy paid for everything—generous but a form of control (the half brother said that Pa would give them money but then grouse about being paid back). When she finally married the first guy, his leverage was gone. Then she got the show in Toronto and never came back. Ultimately Doria got the hand-delivered invite, not Thomas.

^ Bah, forgot link.

I don't understand why DL hates Kaling.

by Anonymousreply 311March 7, 2025 6:24 PM

Another eight episodes? Any word on the guest-friends. And why split the season into two parts, is it just so the products will be ready to sell?

by Anonymousreply 312March 7, 2025 6:30 PM

What does your comment have to do with Meghan Markle critiques, r311?

It's not surprising they have another season in the can. She has to have something out there to coincide with her product roll out, whenever that may happen.

by Anonymousreply 313March 7, 2025 6:36 PM

R313, I was addressing r310, who posted that they didn’t know why DL hates Mindy Kaling.

by Anonymousreply 314March 7, 2025 6:47 PM

I'm r310 and r313. I see. I only know Kaling from watching some episodes of the Office. I don't know what the specific critiques, just that she annoys DL.

by Anonymousreply 315March 7, 2025 7:05 PM

I will forever be mystified by why this quite obvious grifter (even dunderhead William had her number), out to snag a wealthy spouse, set her sights on Prince Ginger BECAUSE he was rich and dependably royal (it wasn't for his looks or brains!), YET THEN persuaded her bagged quarry to eschew his royal status, criticize his family, and emigrate from his homeland, as she somehow ASSUMED they would be treated as British royalty in the one major country where such regard would be guaranteed not to occur.

Why not marry a Rothschild, like Nicky Hilton married? Or some pseudo-royalty, like the husbands of the Miller sisters?

Why marry into the BRF and not want to remain inside its cozy, comfy, Croesus-level standard of living, with castles and courtiers, and the whole of the UK with curtsies and courtesies?

When she and Harry could be "working" (GMAB) Royals" and promote the UK at home and abroad, beloved in the former and popular elsewhere?

Sell the public on King Charles jams and jellies, on Sussex soaps, on Cornwall clotted cream, on Scottish shortbread and Irish wool! Have a series of "Dining With the Duchess" or "Sussex Style"!

But give up the raison d'etre for marrying the Former Spare and find yourself scrambling to just maintain?

That's next level nuts.

by Anonymousreply 316March 7, 2025 7:19 PM

Oh fuck. It's got a second series.

by Anonymousreply 317March 7, 2025 7:28 PM

Markle didn't have enough celebrity wattage or money to have entrée into the very rarified circles the Rothschilds and Millers travel in. Those billionaire business families probably have layers more security and protection than a second tier royal. A working royal is expected to have some level of interaction with the public whereas the super-rich don't have that obligation. How was she introduced to Harry? I can't remember.

by Anonymousreply 318March 7, 2025 7:40 PM

The Millers? Millers.

Not exactly top-drawer.

by Anonymousreply 319March 7, 2025 7:43 PM

So the show was not actually renewed. They filmed 16 episodes out of the gate. It appears Netflix always intended to break into two parts. The fact they are waiting to release the final 8 episodes until the fall seems like they're going to try and make a few bucks with the As Ever brand (if anything is ever ready).

by Anonymousreply 320March 7, 2025 7:48 PM

When does the contract actually expire?

by Anonymousreply 321March 7, 2025 7:54 PM

R321, it was announced in September 2020 and was to said to run for five years, so it looks like it will run out by October 2025.

by Anonymousreply 322March 7, 2025 8:02 PM

To add to r316:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 323March 7, 2025 8:16 PM

R316, Meghan thought she could bully the royal family into giving her the best of both worlds - primo royal gigs throughout the year, then using the royal cachet to get rich in the US the rest of the time. They were already making deals with companies soon after being married and the negotiations began before her wedding. The royals declined. The official story was that they were given the choice of in or out. But I think they were privately relieved of their duties sometime in 2019 and the plan was to move Harry and family to Africa for awhile. Meghan cooked up a story to paint their departure as their 'flight to freedom' in order to keep their deals, but she was really just pissed at the royals because they thwarted her plans.

So, long story short, Meghan was so egotistical and deluded she never even imagined she wouldn't get her way. Everything has been a scramble since then.

by Anonymousreply 324March 7, 2025 8:25 PM

R316 because she’s thick but thinks she’s intelligent. It’s the root cause.

by Anonymousreply 325March 7, 2025 8:55 PM

R316 They could have had it all, had MeAgain played the long game. She is way too dense for that, of course.

M&H could have paid their dues when QE2 was still on the throne, then gracefully stepped back under the gentile guise of "giving the new heir and his family the space (and spotlight) they need" and only do a handful of appearances a year. Causes, charities, and patronages of their choice, mind you.

None of those would have to take place in the UK, they could have stepped out into the world as ambassadors for Great Britain and, by natural extension, the Crown. A permanent home in America, halfway around the world? Why not? It would not have been inconceivable. They could carry out as few as two "acts of service" in the UK a year, residing beyond comfortably in their dedicated quarters in Windsor Castle, Frogmore, or Buckingham.

But no. MeAgain is ghetto and dumb. She has no patience, she cannot play the long game because her greedy little brain cannot think that far ahead.

by Anonymousreply 326March 7, 2025 9:06 PM

Markle & Kaling = two talent-free twats for the price of one!

by Anonymousreply 327March 7, 2025 9:06 PM

If you search the series it shows the Wikipedia listing thus:

Directed by Michael Steed

Starring Meghan, Duchess of Sussex

Country of origin United States

No. of episodes 8

by Anonymousreply 328March 7, 2025 9:30 PM

R303 Meghan’s diehard fan base admire her for what they consider to be her greatest accomplishment: bagging a prince of the world’s most famous monarchy and getting him to abandon everything that mattered to him for her.

“With Love” does not deliver on the type of content her most devoted fans crave. Squaddies want to see their girl stirring the shit and attacking her enemies.

Watching Meghan gush about thoughtful entertaining as she stuffs a basket full of arugula and milk bones is about as tedious as it gets. She better wise up before she slips even further into irrelevance.

by Anonymousreply 329March 7, 2025 9:59 PM

R281, Thomas abused and neglected Meghan?

She went to expensive schools and her father paid for her to take dance and tap lessons, then he'd take her to Frank and Musso for lunch. He paid for all the costs associated with her attending North Western. She's lied about so many things.

R245, thanks. I didn't know that.

Her greedy, manipulative cunt-reptile brain, unaware of her ridiculousness asking her brother-in-law that. Creepy presumption, and not just because he was then the Duke of Cambridge.

by Anonymousreply 333March 8, 2025 12:31 AM

It's so outlandish to would have been front page news.

by Anonymousreply 334March 8, 2025 12:40 AM

That's right up with MeAgain's claim that they'd already had a private wedding service, which the Archbishop of Canterbury was quick to politely but firmly deny. She really doesn't have a clue. But in this world gone mad, she's the train wreck that keeps giving!

by Anonymousreply 335March 8, 2025 1:30 AM

R332, I'm sorry, but I'm not in the US.

Don't let a little matter like misnaming take away from how much her father did for her and how she treated him like shit.

by Anonymousreply 338March 8, 2025 2:16 AM

"Hilarious—but know your ridiculous errors undercut your silly argument. You type like a Daily Mail intern."

Hilarious - but your pomposity and nastiness undercut your self-important statement. You type like a total fucking cunt. Do you honestly think ANYONE takes you seriously? When do you start junior high, BTW?

What are you even doing on this thread? This forum? Go watch your queen embarrass herself again, dick.

You also don't know how to use punctuation properly, dear.

by Anonymousreply 339March 8, 2025 3:40 AM

I can't imagine why SNL hasn't chosen one of their comedians to take her on and have a weekly Meghan as Martha Stewart skit. It would be another Californians. And the endless cast of characters that would be mocked is unending.

by Anonymousreply 340March 8, 2025 3:53 AM

Here are some more gems from the troll:

"...a better person with normal self-esteem would rise above ultimately superficial missteps."

💀💀💀

"I get teen boys in foster care or shelter really nice things they wouldn’t otherwise have: $250 waterproof timberland boots, $300 north face parkas, air Jordan’s, etc."

You sound gross. Plurals don't require possessive apostrophes, dear. What was that you were mentioning about Daily Mail interns? You live in a dream world.

"I’m not a fan of Meghan Markle at all."

Sure, Jan.

by Anonymousreply 341March 8, 2025 3:57 AM

R340, Meghan Sussex does not rise to the level of importance needed to be parodied on SNL.

by Anonymousreply 342March 8, 2025 4:04 AM

R341 R339 Bless your heart. If only there were a way to tell that I didn’t write those other posts. There is a way, but you’re not bright enough to figure out. Cute emojis, though.

by Anonymousreply 344March 8, 2025 11:34 AM

I posted this response months ago at Christmas on a thread with the topic “Do you give to charity?” The gross and lonely troll R341 attempts to make it sound as if I give expensive gifts to vulnerable boys.

“St. Jude’s, Mercy Ship, Doctors Without Borders. I always pick 3 names and buy gifts for children at Christmas. I get teen boys in foster care or shelter really nice things they wouldn’t otherwise have: $250 waterproof timberland boots, $300 north face parkas, air Jordan’s, etc.”

by Anonymousreply 345March 8, 2025 11:40 AM

Meghan is too trite to warrant an SNL skit but they have made fun of her at least a couple of times during the Weekend Update.

by Anonymousreply 346March 8, 2025 11:51 AM

I hereby declare The DataLounge a safe haven for all critics of the beast that is called Meghan Markle.

by Anonymousreply 347March 8, 2025 12:25 PM

I'm trying to care, r343, but TBH, this:

"Hilarious—but know your ridiculous errors undercut your silly argument. You type like a Daily Mail intern."

Over my spelling two names incorrectly when I'm not even American, well, it still just sends me. Not only was it a snotty and petty gotcha, but I've rarely encountered someone so ridiculously self-important. Even here.

The obnoxious pomposity of that one is still cracking me up when i have a chance to think about it. So I cannot fully concentrate on the task of what you did or did not post.

Sorry about that. I'll have to come back to you when I stop sniggering and don't have anything better to do, but I can't promise anything.

by Anonymousreply 348March 8, 2025 1:20 PM

By the repeated posts in response to a single joke at your expense, it’s clear you haven’t had anything better to do for a while.

by Anonymousreply 349March 8, 2025 3:01 PM

Returning to the topic at hand, it’s been pointed out that the IMDb page for the show has her listed as Meghan Markle in the credits. Will be interesting to see if it’s now amended to Sussex. Now that we’ve all been informed by Her Duchessness.

If anybody did well with the Miller sisters it was the Greek former royal family - Marie-Chantal keeps them afloat with her huge dowry which her husband managed to turn into a whole lot more through his hedge fund. Alexandra only married a Furstenberg with no money but did get a job working for her mother in law while Pia married a Getty heir so they both did well out of that arrangement.

My favorite part of the whole Miller Sisters story - apart from their father Robert's immense wealth - is their Ecuadorian mother who changed her name from Maria-Clara to Chantal and claimed descent from an Inca Princess once the girls started their marital careers.

by Anonymousreply 366March 8, 2025 10:05 PM

The Miller Sisters' father is totally self-made. He grew up working class in the Boston area.

by Anonymousreply 367March 8, 2025 10:14 PM

And each daughter married a B-lister. A lesser Getty, a deposed monarch’s kid and some Euro-American trash.

by Anonymousreply 368March 8, 2025 10:16 PM

Henry James meets Sidney Sheldon —that’s the Millers.

by Anonymousreply 369March 8, 2025 10:17 PM

Robert Miller grew up in working class Quincy, a town south of Boston, and attended Cornell on scholarship.

His daughters married: Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece & Denmark; Christopher Getty, and Prince Alexander von Furstenberg (Diane's son).

The DM doesn't specify whether those 526K households watching are in the U.S. or if it's worldwide since the Baltic states are brought up. Either way, they're not promising numbers to use as a springboard, into the luxury jam market.

With Love, Meghan brought in barely a quarter of the viewers hooked by the documentary series Harry & Meghan in 2022.

It came as Netflix's own data showed that With Love, Meghan has been more successful in Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia than in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.

The Duchess of Sussex's eight-part series was watched by 526,000 households in the first five days it was available on Netflix since its release on March 4, according to data gathered by Samba TV.

But by comparison Harry & Meghan drew in 2.1 million households in approximately the same number of days - making it four times more successful.

With Love, Meghan was watched by more people aged between 45 to 54 than any other age group.

by Anonymousreply 387March 11, 2025 3:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 389March 11, 2025 3:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 390March 11, 2025 4:03 PM

You don’t generate this level of negative press if you’re nice.

It’s quite clear she’s treated lots of people shittily and they’ve responded in kind by blabbing to the press.

And the relatively few positive pieces wherein they quote people who rave about her are clearly engineered by her handlers, forcing the people currently in her employ to say these things.

by Anonymousreply 395March 12, 2025 7:13 AM

“ great thing about being royal is you can be as boring as fuck for as long as you live and still be treated as the most important person in the room.”

Great line. Brown also touches on the Megxit announcement on the Sussex Royal page without mentioning that originally it was another branding error. Their first choice, Royal Sussex, belonged to someone else.

by Anonymousreply 396March 12, 2025 1:38 PM

R394 thank you for sharing. That article is so well-written. Love the clever lines, too!
The commercial blockbusters of the Harry & Meghan documentary and Harry’s explosive memoir, Spare, were Pyrrhic victories that alienated the House of Windsor for good and burned the Sussexes’ London Bridge to the ground.

by Anonymousreply 397March 12, 2025 2:17 PM

I disagree with Brown on a few things. Particularly her take that their faux royal tours displayed the kind of sizzle they could have brought to real royal tours. That's laughable. If that is what sizzle looks like, they should have just stayed home.

by Anonymousreply 398March 12, 2025 2:35 PM

by Anonymousreply 399March 12, 2025 2:40 PM

Herbalists and skin care specialists are red-flagging Markle's bath salt mixture, which they fear may damage and even burn users' skin.

many plant extractors and skin care experts are warning that Markle's bath salt mixture may cause rashes, hives or even burns to the skin because she failed to add a so-called 'carrier oil' to ease the potentially volatile effects of arnica and lavender oils.

Carrier oils such as those pressed from jojoba, coconut, almond, primrose or grapeseed dilute the plant compounds in essential oils, easing potentially irritating effects on the skin.

The fake second season renewal thing is not new.

I remember when Katie Couric had her talk show. They gleefully announced a renewal late on season one. Insiders I knew laughed, knowing that Katie’s contract guaranteed a minimum of two seasons.

Same with Drew Barrymore, though her show shockingly continues.

In the latter cases, it was driven by talent demands. In cases like Meghan’s it gives the show a veneer of success that they hope will entice more viewers to check it out.

by Anonymousreply 413March 12, 2025 9:51 PM
Will they be Princess and Prince?

If you mean Archie and Lilibet: they already are Prince and Princess. As grandchildren in the direct male line of the monarch, they succeeded to the titles of prince Archie of Sussex and Prince Lilibet of Sussex when their great-grandmother Elizabeth II died. They are referred to by those names on the official website for the British royal family, run by Buckingham Palace.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 414March 12, 2025 9:53 PM

With all of her insistence that she goes by Sussex, her little family's real name, have they legally filed paperwork for this? Don't they need to in order to enroll their kids in school under a name that isn't on their birth certificates? Same for social security numbers, bank accounts, etc.

by Anonymousreply 415March 12, 2025 10:16 PM

In Britain, titled people often use their title as an informal last name. However, it's not their legal last name. Another thought: Harry and Meghan were so quick to leave the royal family, but so intent on their children being called a prince and princess. However, Prince Edward's children, who are also grandchildren of a monarch (Queen Elizabeth II), do not use the title prince or princess; Edward and his wife Sophie have said let the kids decide later in life if they want that. Harry and Meghan could easily have done the same, except they were so intent on clinging to their royal attributes without any of the responsibilities.

by Anonymousreply 416March 12, 2025 10:36 PM

The announcement of the new last name was 100% classic Meghan.

She does something to pull rank on everyone else ("You'd better not forget I'm the Duchess of Sussex now! Meghan Markle no longer even exists! Do not dare call me by that name!") and pretends she's doing it to be cozy and familial ("We're just using the name of our cute little family... Royal Highnesses all of us, now that ol' Wassername is dead! Isn't that just so sweet and special?").

by Anonymousreply 417March 12, 2025 10:43 PM

Tina Brown knows her stuff, although I do find her personality to be unappealing when I see her on TV.

Many times, while devouring British Royal Family gossip and reporting, I wonder about the reliability and sourcing of what I'm reading.

But not Brown's output. I know that what she dishes is solid.

In fact, while I was reading the "The Palace Papers", I strongly suspected that some of her unattributed scoops and reporting was based upon direct evidence supplied by sources aka King Charles, Queen Camilla, William and Kate, or somebody very close to them that was given leave to spill to her.

That's not far-fetched. For decades Brown has been a prominent writer/reporter and editor, Vanity Fair foremost among them.

She professionally and maybe even personally, knows all of the Big four of the RF. I think they trust her to never attribute to them her info.

That said, however, her essay at r394 (Thank you, r394!) is Brown at her stiletto wielding best, although, many of us here at the good old DL have already made the same points she makes, just in different words.

Brown has taken the gloves off, I see. She was still sort of hanging back on the criticism of the Sussexes in "TPP".

by Anonymousreply 419March 12, 2025 11:07 PM

Did you mean pikeminnows?
Pikeminnows, formerly squawfish, are cyprinid fish of the genus Ptychocheilus consisting of four species native to western North America. Voracious predators, they are considered an "undesirable" species in many waters, largely due to the species' perceived tendency to prey upon small trout and salmon.

Did you ever wonder if Meghan was looking for the first opportunity to break with her father because he knew the truths about her that didn't match her fictional narrative of her life? I think his mistake with the publication was just an excuse for her to break with him. She needed to so that he wouldn't spill any truths to Harry. Was what he did so vile that she has completely ended contact with the man who raised her? Not believable.

by Anonymousreply 424March 13, 2025 12:02 AM

And nobody in Africa has acknowledged its role in the slave trade at all. As well as none of the people in other countries demanding reparations because of white guilt liberal suckers. Meghan lived her life as a white person until she realized she could exploit her African heritage for money. She is beyond creepy. Constantly exalting family when she told her own family and her husband's family to fuck off. Pulling her own neglectful mother out from the wings as a prop for photo ops and treating her own husband who is quite the pos himself like a trained poodle.

And what happened to the topless yacht girl photos that were once on line?

by Anonymousreply 425March 13, 2025 12:24 AM

It’s truly a 2-star show—nothing original about it and beyond bland/boring. I couldn’t get past the first episode—it was so dull and M has zero charisma. And the show completely lacks energy.

I didn’t hate it. Just found it pointless and dreary.

by Anonymousreply 426March 13, 2025 12:25 AM

I heard an interesting take on her insistence of Sussex as their surname. Itwas one of the leading royal reporters—can’t remember his name. He said his palace sources suspect she made a point of it to make it much more awkward for Charles/William to pull their title.

by Anonymousreply 427March 13, 2025 12:28 AM

'Why do you keep calling me Markle when you know my name is Sussex?' You so wanted the other woman to say 'It is not Sussex you lying narcissistic evil clown. Why don't we make today Meghan stuffed with shit? 0 prep time.'

by Anonymousreply 428March 13, 2025 12:32 AM

Don't the people of Sussex want to take the title away? I know it takes an Act of Parliament, but with a Labour government is it any more likely?

by Anonymousreply 429March 13, 2025 12:48 AM
Meghan was looking for the first opportunity to break with her father because he knew the truths about her that didn't match her fictional narrative of her life?

Judging from Harry's comment that the RF would become the "family she never had," it's certainly possible, and you know she gave Harry a tale of woe like she told the world of her woes as a member of the RF.

But, I honestly think her primary motivation was/is embarrassment about her father, his appearance, his lack of higher education, his working class job (though a highly skilled technical one that paid middle class wages), his manners, the way he spoke. He just became too coarse for her new rarified existence. Getting measured by a tailor was the final straw. It was a doofus move on his part that confirmed her feelings.

Even if he knew about a fictional narrative she gave Harry, I have a feeling he'd go along with it because she was the apple of his eye and wouldn't want to upset her apple cart. I think "What Meghan wants Meghan gets" was established early on on her relationship with her father.

I read the DM interview where he said he and Thomas, Jr were moving to Thailand. The interviewer flew down to Mexico for it. He showed her the receipts he'd kept over the years. Literally, the receipts of how he financed her education, trips, etc. I think that's going to be his last punch - getting those published.

by Anonymousreply 430March 13, 2025 12:58 AM

I forgot to say at r430 that one untruth she may have told Harry is that her father was "sexually inappropriate" with her to ignite his wannabe savior instincts. If this is the case, would Harry restrain himself around Thomas or confront? And Thomas, of course, would deny. That could be a reason to keep them apart, but would she be that vile?

by Anonymousreply 431March 13, 2025 1:07 AM
That could be a reason to keep them apart, but would she be that vile?

You don't know her yet, do you?

by Anonymousreply 432March 13, 2025 1:22 AM

R430, Meghan has ghosted almost everyone that she was ever “close” to. Each of those people suddenly began useless to her, beneath her. Maybe she had more of a plan with her father, but he probably just had to go because eventually everyone does.

by Anonymousreply 433March 13, 2025 1:23 AM

by Anonymousreply 434March 13, 2025 1:31 AM

Apparently Pa Markle has decamped to the Philippines.

by Anonymousreply 435March 13, 2025 1:35 AM

Doria was either imprisoned for drug dealing or tax evasion. Thomas and Doria had a marriage somewhat similar to Harry and Meghan. He mostly raised Meghan and spent a ton of money supporting Doria's failed business ventures. Of which there were several. Including an unsuccessful travel agency that may or may not have been a front for tax evasion of money laundering.

Meghan may have been a daddy's girl in the very beginning but she is now very much her mother's daughter.

It's also comical she doesn't feel safe in the UK yet feels safer in the US which is ten times more racist, has higher crime rates and has looser lethal weapon restrictions than the UK does.

by Anonymousreply 436March 13, 2025 1:49 AM

Stop r436. Doria did not go to prison. Prison records are public, no one has ever found any record of her ever going to prison. You seemed to have turned to their committing illegal acts, when there is no evidence of that either. He had a well-paying job, he had no need to launder money. Geez, Meghan is just a boring wanna be, stop making her out to be a criminal.

by Anonymousreply 437March 13, 2025 2:04 AM

There was no way that she could trust Thomas to keep his yap shut about all the lies she had spun. He had to be exiled. Doria, on the other hand, is a much smoother operator, plus she was a great accessory to parade around to bolster Meghan's racism story.

The "I'm Sussex now" is also a good branding move for her should there be a divorce. She can then continue to cling to the Duchess title because "it's my children's name".

by Anonymousreply 440March 13, 2025 6:18 AM

But are they her children? Whenever she shows pictures of them and they are not from the back, which they often are, they are as white as Michael Jackson's children which were sired by Mark Lester.

And considering how much time they both spend away from them they seem to be nothing more than accessory props for Meghan's movie star type of love. And that infamous baby bump which she quite literally held in place or it would really drop to the floor. She certainly is full of surprises.

What happened to the klan granny troll? Was he thankfully run over by a taxi running a yellow light?

by Anonymousreply 441March 13, 2025 7:18 AM

Didn't she shop around a "What if we divorce?" book proposal/inquiry with some publishers to assess financial impact of a fallout/sepatation?

I don't think this was denied.

I saw one commentator make a good observation... Mindy was handing Meghan the perfect opportunity to appear relatable and like a regular person by pointing out she has eaten Jack In The Box and instead of using it to her advantage Meghan couldn't help but ruin it by correcting Mindy. Not to mention the correction was to say "I'm royal now, and don't you forget it".

I think that goes to the heart of her branding problem. She is trying to sell herself as being just the girl next door while dropping in her royal title wherever she can. She would be better off to either drop the connection to the royals completely, or keep it and not be constantly trying to pretend she's a regular mom & housewife who is just like you. By trying to be both she just looks like a phony.

by Anonymousreply 443March 13, 2025 10:18 AM

Sites with reviews have either 5 stars or 1-2 stars. It’s very unusual to have no middlers, but it falls in line with her as a polarizing figure.

by Anonymousreply 444March 13, 2025 10:30 AM

But it was such a stupid suck up line. “Who knew” she ate at Jack in the Box. Why wouldn’t she have eaten there? Everyone knows she grew up in Cal as middle class. And she wonders why people see her as inauthentic.

by Anonymousreply 445March 13, 2025 10:51 AM

That is the difficulty for her. She supposedly finds royalty racist and offensive and wants to dress and live like a completely ordinary person. Yet we are supposed to be shocked she has done the same things everyone else has

by Anonymousreply 446March 13, 2025 11:16 AM

Who knows where she was, but Doria was gone for much of Meghan's childhood. I wonder why Thomas Markle and his other kids are so circumspect about that absence. Thomas freely comments on Meghan but keeps his mouth shut as to Doria and is mainly complimentary or neutral on her. There's definitely more to that story.

by Anonymousreply 447March 13, 2025 11:53 AM

People who go to prison for tax evasion are very wealthy people who owe millions and even then it’s very rare. A woman in California who declared bankruptcy is not going to prison for tax evasion.

Further, Doria would not be allowed into Canada if she had been to prison. They don’t even let in people with DUIs. She would t be able to travel to the UK.

Doria probably was a trimmer in Humboldt County. That’s ‘criminal’ (or was in the 90s) but not ethically wrong.

by Anonymousreply 448March 13, 2025 12:24 PM

I think, once they separated that Doria was moving around a lot. I didn’t read the book but Tom Bower covered it. Just a bunch of temporary jobs in different places and she didn’t own a house then so Pa had the stable income/housing. Also the son has said that his father would take annual trips to Thailand and you know it wasn’t for the cuisine so maybe it’s a stand off.

by Anonymousreply 449March 13, 2025 12:24 PM

R449, according to Bower, Doria , who was much younger than Thomas, didn't want to be a housewife and mother. So she left Meghan and Thomas. There no suggestion that she was involved in criminal activity. Obviously, plenty of people have survived worse; Meghan still had a home and a parent. But she still might have felt rejected or abandoned.

She wants you to be in awe of her title so she can impress you further by how gracious and down to earth she is. But the awe for her has to come first in order for that to work. She doesn’t [italic]actually[/italic] want you to treat her like an equal. I know DL loves her, but Diana was the same way. The difference was Diana was genuinely posh, tall and beautiful. If The Queen and Prince Philip found halfway through the engagement that Doria had legal trouble they could've had her records scrubbed. As for her not being able to enter Canada and the UK, Elizabeth could've pulled strings since she was the Queen in order to avoid scandal.

Probably yet another reason why she was scowling at a very smug looking Meghan at the wedding. Elizabeth didn't want to repeat the same mistake she made with Margaret with Harry and now all of this.

by Anonymousreply 476March 13, 2025 8:30 PM

R465 R474 I can't pretend that race didn't come into play in this situation. Can you?

by Anonymousreply 477March 13, 2025 8:31 PM

R474 here (I’m not R465, btw) - R477 why did you ignore the fact that a person of colour - Gary Lewis, a Māori New Zealander - married into the British Royal Family over twenty years ago? It’s probably the first that you’ve heard of it as there was no fuss or drama about his not being white. So Meghan didn’t marry into a previously white institution.

I don’t recall any rousing anti racism speeches or actions from the Duchess of Sussex - she married a rich stupid titled guy in a wedding costing his family and the British taxpayer over $2.7m, quickly acquired a hugely expensive wardrobe, stuck it out for a couple of years of random appearances, subsequently separated her rich stupid titled guy from his family and then tried to monetise that tenuous link with his family by lying about them.

So admirable!

She’s not exactly Rosa Parks, is she?

by Anonymousreply 478March 13, 2025 8:45 PM

a is not exactly a core member of the family is she? She was lower than 20th in line, now in the 30s. IOW, no one cared or cares now.

by Anonymousreply 479March 13, 2025 8:52 PM

Meghan's show at least has a theme. I won't listen to it for a variety of reasons but the SAHMs who are launching at home businesses might, depending on the guests and whether she shuts up and lets them talk. She's not going to drop dead. You may as well ignore her.

by Anonymousreply 480March 13, 2025 9:00 PM

R478 I'm talking about public perceptions in America.

After the George Floyd riots, people who were previously apolitical started shrieking about "empire" and "karmic stains".

A whole lot of people of color who never paid attention to the BRF cared because they "saw themselves" in Meghan and they thought it was some type of noble Disneyesque peacemaking with the slave-dealing colonizers.

Turned out it's all just a clash of grifters.

by Anonymousreply 481March 13, 2025 9:11 PM

R479 just because you didn’t know about it doesn’t mean that Lady Davina Windsor, daughter of the Duke of Gloucester, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, great grand daughter of King George V, married Gary Lewis, a person of colour in Kensington Palace at a ceremony attended by both their extended families. Much was made in the press at the time about how they met in Bali where he was on a surfing holiday, that they lived anonymously in Auckland before their marriage, that Gary was a carpenter with a son from a previous relationship who acted as his father’s best man - I could go on. I know this as I was living in a London at the time and it was in the press. The only mention of race was that Gary was the first Kiwi Māori to marry into the British Royal Family. The main focus was that he was very handsome and that she was happy. Oh, and he was a rugby fanatic and friends with Princess Anne’s rugby playing son Peter Phillips.

Just because something is not in your experience (which I’m sure is limited, R479) doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen. Even if it doesn’t fit your false narrative about Meghan marrying into a racist, previously all white institution.

Because she didn’t.

by Anonymousreply 482March 13, 2025 9:21 PM

I agree with this fag. Everything Meghan does seems at least a decade out of date. I think the 2010s were her best decade and she can't move on. Mentally she's still in 2015.

The only people I could really see liking this show are people exactly like Meghan. Bland narcissistic American or Eastern European golddigging types who love love love the color beige (absolute ugly fucking color), wear their hearts on their sleeves and self identify as empaths who praise essential oils and swear by Live, Laugh, Love.

All her ventures fail one after another as if they were dominoes going down and yet she keeps rebranding herself over and over. She is always going to fail no matter what. The universe wants her to and she can't fight that. She did as a premenopausal woman manage to bag a prince but he just happened to be the most stupid one of any monarchy in the history of the planet. She played Let's Make a Deal and ended up with a picnic table.

by Anonymousreply 510March 14, 2025 12:48 AM

R476, boy is that dumb, to think that Queen Elizabeth could or would arrange to destroy legal records for someone she’d never met for crimes of no significance. Yes, that’s probably more likely than Doria just not having ever been in prison.

by Anonymousreply 511March 14, 2025 1:05 AM

R501 Didn't she marry into it?

by Anonymousreply 512March 14, 2025 1:27 AM

Yes, the Duchess. Britain’s most dazzling export since canned beans! A vision of charm and well-rehearsed benevolence, she smiled, she waved, she graced the peasantry with her presence. And philanthropy? A cookbook for the downtrodden! Because nothing soothes systemic neglect like a well-seasoned casserole.

But alas! In the great Brexit-era tragedy, she miscast herself. To the stiff-lipped islanders, she was no duchess, but an invader! And the colonies? Oh, they cheered! Representation at last! Or so they were told. A royal who looked like them, if you ignored everything else.

The same Duchess, now a culinary sage! Watch as she assembles charcuterie with the gravitas of a UN envoy, murmuring self-discovery between sips of ethically sourced tea. A triumph of linen aprons, curated rusticity, and the art of making herself the main course. Bon appétit!

Emergency Rooms Overwhelmed By Bee-Stung Peasants

US - Thousands of Mexit aficionados with compromised skin barriers from ill-conceived bath salts were viciously attacked by flying insects today. It seems they drove bees mad after festooning their meals with great quantities of pulverized flowers; it didn’t help they also stole their wax.

All are expected to be released soon with strict orders to forgo baths with any condiments.

by Anonymousreply 514March 14, 2025 2:53 AM

And, R512 - what did that achieve for "her people" (who she had denied any connection to until it became expedient in her late thirties.

So what if she married into the royal family? She wasn't the first person of colour to do so. She wasn't even the first annoying, talentless, grifting American.

Please tell me because I am missing it - what did she achieve through her (most recent) marriage?

by Anonymousreply 515March 14, 2025 3:01 AM

Since no member of my family lived in this country until at least 30 years after the end of slavery and since they arrived with nothing and were swept into child labor, I feel no responsibility for American racism, British colonialism or an unfortunate straight-out-of Compton headline. Meghan has made out quite well for herself. I feel as much sorrow for her as I do Monica Lewinsky, which is to say none at all.

by Anonymousreply 516March 14, 2025 3:17 AM

Can we get back to pointless bitchery? What about her appearance on the Drew Barrymore show? She was again horribly dressed (where is her gay bestie when she gets dressed for TV?), drowning in unmatched baggy off-whites. And then she and Drew gazing into each other's eyes (is this how all Drew interviews are?) as Meghan emotes her way through a corny anecdote whose message is that she and "H" and always dating each other because an "Irish Catholic" dad she'd babysat for wished that for her when she found her "person".

I don't know how anyone takes this chick seriously.

by Anonymousreply 517March 14, 2025 6:08 AM

R515 I don't think she has achieved anything for anyone except herself, just like the BRF.

Anything less than complete fawning adoration is not enough for the royal flock.

"Stupidstupidstupistupid"

The monarchists are just as unhinged and incoherent as the extreme trans brigade.

by Anonymousreply 518March 14, 2025 7:52 AM

Speaking of the Drew interview, I found it quite entertaining when Drew showed the photo of her (Drew) meeting Diana. You could tell that Meghan did not appreciate the spotlight and story being on anyone but herself and probably didn't like having the world reminded that she (Meghan) never met Diana herself. Poor Meghan.

by Anonymousreply 519March 14, 2025 8:57 AM

R476 that’s not how Heads of State in civilised countries operate but I do understand that being American, you may have a skewed perspective.

by Anonymousreply 520March 14, 2025 9:45 AM

What, R518? Even supposed fans of the monarchy pick it apart like a dog on a bone. Pull up any old royalty thread on DL and you will see supposed fans criticizing this, that and the other. People certainly have their favorites but everyone is fair game. In addition, unlike Meghan, the BRF does not claim to be in the business of achieving anything, other than the monarch acting as head of state. In fact, most of what they do is honoring others. Awarding honors, cutting ribbons, calling attention to their citizens, programs, businesses, etc. They pointedly admit that any interest with them has nothing to do with them individually and only to do with the crown.

Without a doubt, some of them are individually problematic. But the actions of the monarchy are aligned with their agreed-upon role in their society. Meghan, however, is entirely, disturbingly self serving.

by Anonymousreply 521March 14, 2025 11:55 AM

What a great, accurate and well-written post, r521.
People certainly have their favorites but everyone is fair game.

For me, my favorite was QE II.

But now it's Catherine, Princess of Wales (Kate). I think her perfect exterior is matched by a steely, don't-fuck-with-me interior that emerges in the stealthiest of ways.

For all Kate's boring, too flawless, polished public persona, paradoxically, that's why I find her among the most fascinating famous women alive. The suspense is fun wondering if she'll ever put a foot (encased in a nude-colored pump) wrong.

"I'll take it" she seems to have said when marrying William. And that was after years of seeing Royal duties up close, the work, the tabloids, the reality that your life, in some sense, 24 and 7, won't be your own.

Markle got in over her head. I think initially Kate had a good faith desire to help her.

But, I think both of them were overwhelmed by the toxicity between Willaim and Harry, and 'ya gotta back your man.

by Anonymousreply 535March 14, 2025 11:04 PM

R534 Pandering to fake trans grifter Dylan Mulvaney aside, I really hope Drew was shading Meghan by mentioning Diana.

by Anonymousreply 536March 15, 2025 2:51 AM

I don’t know what clip of what Meghan show I caught. But what I saw was awful.

Always had been rooting for her and Harry. Stupid, I know. My husband tells me to even think of these royals twats as actual people as idiotic but I do.

So when Drew Barrymore presents Meghan with what should have been a pretty show- stopping moment - a picture of a very young Drew Barrymore presenting Princess Diana with a bouquet or courtesies to her or both. I don’t know if a young Prince Harry was in the photo but I think many are aware of the special lovIng bond Harry and Diana had,

Meghan laughs artificially & stiffly & says something about letting H know…and then awkwardly steers the conversation elsewhere.

SHE’LL BE LETTING H KNOW?

WTF MEGHAN! When we were in middle school ,we thought it wd be cool to be called by our first initial. But we were 12 and secretly played with our Barbies.

She calls her husband “H”? To his face? Does she thinks it makes her sound more cool? More “Meghie. From the Street”?

by Anonymousreply 537March 15, 2025 6:23 AM

Note how at the beginning of the segment Drew introduces "Meghan Sussex".

by Anonymousreply 538March 15, 2025 9:10 AM

Meghan was to be a tool used to show the world how non racist the Royal Family was. They were using her and she was using them. She didn't hold up her part of the bargain so she had to flee. She found there was work involved. And there wasn't enough of a cash payout for it to be worth it. So she took what money there was along with the most worthless royal and ran to be in eternally hip California. With this royal glommed on to her she was offered millions to now not work. Putting flowers in ice cubes is not work. Making soup with pasta water ending up in a disgusting mess is not work. Taking pictures of the back of children's heads is not work. Walking on men in stiletto heels is not work, it is whoring yourself out and a lot of fun. And on DL whore is what we all aspire to being especially without payment. What happened to her animated series Pearl where a young girl travels through history to meet accomplished women like Cleopatra and Margie Hart?

by Anonymousreply 539March 15, 2025 9:19 AM

R539 Your first three sentences are fiction.

by Anonymousreply 540March 15, 2025 9:35 AM

I'm still waiting, R497.

by Anonymousreply 541March 15, 2025 9:35 AM

I think, R539, a more correct narrative is that the Queen's grandchild fell in love with a bi-racial American woman. The Queen, after the Princess Margaret debacle decades earlier, had decided not to say no to any of her family's marital choices. The royal family and their staff tried to make it work, but Meghan was too inflexible and perhaps lazy and Harry was too disturbed, and perhaps Meghan saw an opportunity to make big money, so they fled.

by Anonymousreply 542March 15, 2025 11:39 AM
I don’t know if a young Prince Harry was in the photo but I think many are aware of the special lovIng bond Harry and Diana had,

The photo was the British premiere of ET, which would make it 1982. Harry was born in 1984.

by Anonymousreply 543March 15, 2025 11:42 AM

R542 that’s a more reasonable take than the 10, 20 or 30 nut jobs who dredged this out to over 500 posts so far.

by Anonymousreply 544March 15, 2025 12:48 PM

That clip from the Drew Barrymore show, ugh. Introduced as Meghan Sussex (she didn’t want the Mindy treatment). Feeble cookie segment. I didn’t notice Meghan being taken aback at the Princess Di photo but the “I’ll pass it on to H” did seem dismissive.

However what was most irritating—and maybe this is common to that show—was Drew question > Meghan response > Applause. Like, ever. single. time. Moronic.

by Anonymousreply 545March 15, 2025 1:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 547March 15, 2025 8:22 PM

R540 so the first three sentences are false but the rest are true? Sorry I got it all right.

You are in denial about the royal family's and Meghan's strategies and machinations. Yes the Queen did not want to interfere with Harry's lust but it seems she knew right off the bat Meghan was a poison apple. I mean everybody was telling her so. But to have denied this marriage would have looked really bad because somebody snapped their fingers and Meghan became a magical black beacon of integration. They realized they could use her as much as she was using Harry's neck as another step on her staircase to world adoration. And if Margaret had married that great love of her life(Ha!) that marriage still would have crashed and burned.

by Anonymousreply 548March 15, 2025 8:42 PM

R521 I'm sure they're wonderful at cutting ribbons. I understand that they bring in tourist revenue.

Their fan club is as rabid and nasty as anything on the internet including the troons. There are a lot of parallels.

by Anonymousreply 549March 15, 2025 8:44 PM
And if Margaret had married that great love of her life(Ha!) that marriage still would have crashed and burned.

So true. If Margaret and Peter Townsend had been allowed to marry, the marriage would've eventually ended in divorce. Margaret was an impossible drunken cunt and any marriage she had never could have lasted due to her behavior.

by Anonymousreply 550March 15, 2025 8:53 PM

I don’t think Townsend was as poisonous as Armstrong-Jones. Plus as an equerry, he was more aligned with the order of things. Whereas A-J had to flaunt his rebelliousness.

by Anonymousreply 551March 15, 2025 10:33 PM

The delicious absurdity! They flee the monarchy, denouncing its suffocating traditions, (blaming the media of course) yet cling to its trappings like a child clutching a discarded toy. “We reject the institution!" But not the name, the titles, or the brand recognition, of course. Sussex, a duchy they have as much connection to as I do to the lost city of Atlantis, now serves as their badge of independence.

And the monarchy itself? A grand, lumbering relic of tiaras, curtsies, and self-importance, demanding reverence as if divine right were anything more than an accident of birth. The only other place you see tiaras? On beauty queens and toddlers in tiaras, one parading for relevance, the other for a tiara too big for its head. Both equally ludicrous, though at least the toddlers have the excuse of youth.

Bow to this, kiss the ring, praise the gilded cage. No matter that its inhabitants, suffocating under the weight of expectation, spiral into madness! Best to toss the whole affair into a museum, somewhere between the medieval torture racks and the guillotines of centuries past.

As for Future 'King' William, one can only hope he has the sense to sever these self-imposed exiles from the royal tree once and for all. Yet, they persist, clutching at relevance, endlessly reciting their lines, long after the world has moved on. Exit, pursued by irrelevance.

by Anonymousreply 552March 16, 2025 12:11 AM

I’ve never heard of any acting classes she took or performances while she was at Northwestern. What kind of training has she done?

by Anonymousreply 559March 16, 2025 4:00 PM

It's weird how little is known from her Northwestern days. I know it was before smartphones, but you would think more people would have come forward with stories about her from that time period. Did they see enough that they knew to keep low and stay away from her crazy? Or, was she so unremarkable that she didn't make much of an impression?

by Anonymousreply 560March 16, 2025 5:35 PM

I recall some Northwestern drama or speech teacher saying she wasn't into being a dramatic actress. And she's still friends with the chubby Republican chick from there--she's in the final Netflix episode.

by Anonymousreply 561March 16, 2025 6:24 PM

The latter r560. I think I recall reading a former roommate? Classmate? Saying Meghan was focused and ambitious. Nothing wrong with that and it required effort to get where she is now. I do not think she is lazy. Harry on the other hand…

by Anonymousreply 562March 16, 2025 6:32 PM

Charles and William showed how phony it all is and how lacking in integrity they are when Lady Hussy who had with a dignity and class that no longer exist(some people may say Thank God!) who dedicated her life to the monarchy was thrown under the bus by the two of them when in a state of British old lady dottiness asked that black woman repeatedly where was she from. She at her advanced age was accused of the dirtiest word of them all in the English language and was completely humiliated and shamed by the two of them. She probably didn't know what hit her. And she was William's godmother! Great going Bill you future king which no longer means shit.

by Anonymousreply 563March 16, 2025 7:55 PM

Yes r537, what the hell is up with her calling him H? I can see addressing a letter to H or using it as a shorthand when writing to others about him, but to call him H in interviews? As if that’s how we all know him.

by Anonymousreply 564March 16, 2025 10:17 PM

Oh that’s easy. Everyone calls him Harry. His close friends might call him Haz, or a variation of that.

Megs has to put her own stamp on his name to demonstrate how close they are…a name no one else uses, only she, the chosen one. So she calls him Aitch. Proving once again that she is TERRIBLE at this because that’s an ugly sound.

It’s like a friend of mine in college. She started to date a guy, a really popular guy everyone knew and liked. His name was something like Jon (but more unique), very short, no nickname, everyone knew who he was. My friend couldn’t call him Jon like everyone else, nope, she called him Jon Michael (his middle name). I’ve heard it’s a form of control but I don’t think so. It was just a way of separating herself from the crowd of merely ordinary friends.

by Anonymousreply 565March 17, 2025 4:11 AM

That's interesting, R365 - the two most regrettable of my past relationships were with guys who insisted on calling me by my full first name, even though everybody else called me by the standard short version and despite me saying that I didn't like the full first name. I saw it as not so much controlling but a gay affectation - same as those queens who insist on calling themselves "firstname middlename lastname".

Such a wank.

by Anonymousreply 566March 17, 2025 6:22 AM

R566, Calling you by your full name despite you saying you didn’t like it *does* sound like a form of control though. Or some passive aggressive shit.

Harry calls her M in return, which is more mellifluous.

by Anonymousreply 567March 17, 2025 12:06 PM

R563, agree that it was despicable that William jumped to criticize Lady Hussey but disagree that she was having a moment of dottiness. Lady Hussey spent decades attending a predominantly black church in London which saw its fair share of emigrants from Africa. She must be well versed on the dress of the prominent tribes as there are very specific standards. She would have known immediately that something was up with Fulani. A video would later come out of Fulani telling others on her "charity' to pick up odd pieces from charity shops to approximate an African "look" in order to bring in more cash. I think Hussey was sussing Fulani out and Fulani came up with the racism story for notoriety. It is a shame Hussey was publicly dunked on because Fulani was a scam artist who deserved to be outed.

Just shows you how immature and desperate these men are and that they are as worthy of being members of a monarchy as we think of it as a flounder.

by Anonymousreply 571March 17, 2025 1:02 PM

Lady Susan Hussey (her actual title as daughter of an Earl and wife of the late Baron Hussey) has since been seen staying at Sandringham as guest of the King so if there were any hurt feelings they’ve since been put aside.

R574 - to answer your question... "Yes".

In addition, Lady Susan Hussey had often accompanied Queen Elizabeth on her state visits and may have known more about various African factions and areas than Fulani.

Since her role at the reception would have been to seek out "wall flowers", people who might be uncomfortable at the event, Lady Susan Hussey most likely was hoping to assist Fulani connect with like minded people at the event.

Unfortunately for Lady Susan Hussey, the person she was speaking to apparently had no interest in that.

by Anonymousreply 577March 17, 2025 5:39 PM

Your question, R574? Yes, I suspect someone like Hussey who has spent decades in the close company of immigrants who wear traditional dress would be knowledgeable of the high-level specifics of that dress and how to distinguish from whence they came. Hussey has many ties to Africa, including having been personal friends with Mandela.

Unlike dipshit Fulani who told her staff to wear mix-n-match to fool prospective donors. Fulani either couldn't bother to Google the topic or knew if she wore a specific dress then she would be asked specifics about her background. That's why Hussey started asking where she was from.

Everything I said was true and is easily verifiable.

Her outfit didn't seem culturally accurate and may have been a mishmash of different regions which may have confused Lady Hussey who genuinely thought she came from Africa and by asking "where are you from?" she wanted to know which region or tribe she was a part of.

Definitely a set up. Makes a mockery of actual victims of racism too by undermining their credibility. Bitch pulled a Nancy Mace.

Do you remember if this was this before or after Spare was released, r583? It was either the Spectator or Tatler that quoted Perez Hilton, of all folks, as saying that Hollywood people were wary of inviting them to social events due to a perceived lack of discretion on their part. Discussing which member of the RF said or did what in the Oprah interview was bad enough. All of Harry's spilling in Spare iced the cake. Remember, he let the world know that Courtney Cox dispensed psychedelic mushrooms from her refrigerator.

It had to sting Meghan not to be invited.

by Anonymousreply 585March 18, 2025 8:30 PM

I live right around the corner from that Sistah Space charity shop. I have never been in but I have seen Fulani several times in the area and she looks like the most intimidating miserable angry cunt you can imagine. She often wears a coat that is louder than bombs in the colours of the African flags.

I honestly think her biggest problem, and the reason that she is how she is, is that she hasn’t been fucked in maybe decades. No black man would ever put up with her shit, and given that she hate’s white people getting fucked by a white guy is out of the question. Apparently she has left the shop which is still open, which would explain why I haven seen her recently.

She went to the palace that day looking to have a fight, and poor Lady Susan Hussey walked right into her trap.

My favourite awful 'Meghan moment's is still the New York one. They attended some daft awards ceremony and entered the building via a hire car place, then when Meghan went to the stage to collect her award the Alisha Keys song This Girl Is On Fire was blasting out of the speakers.

Then to top it all off they were almost killed in a horrific paparazzi car chase through Manhatten.

They truly are the gift that keeps on giving.

Mine is when Haz and his handsome polo buddy were collecting an award, and Meghan tried to horn in the middle of them to try to hold it. Polo triend firmly grabbed it and held it above her head, and she had to duck under to be in the shot.

A near-catastrophic, [italic]slow speed[/italic] car chase. The "near-catastrophic" part was in a press release from the Sussexes themselves. The slow speed clarification (as though we needed one about Manhattan traffic) came from the driver whose cab Harry, Meghan, and Doria ducked into to avoid the paps. (Without their security detail. Where were they and their advice in this situation? Likely ignored.)

It was a situation entirely of their own making that could have been avoided by not exiting the venue from the rear (I guess they didn't want the Hertz sign in the background again) and not staying in a hotel with a rear entrance. They were staying with at a friend's private residence and didn't want reporters to know who or where.

They didn't seem awfully security conscious in big, bad awful NYC, but they want Met police Royal Protection detail when in England. OK.

r 596 - she also tried to keep holding on to a consolation prize given to one of the younger players (I think it was a box of cigars) and almost tried to wrestle it from him to prolong the photo op. She's always awkward in groups of people. The USO tour in Iraq is another example.

The USO Christmas sing along when nobody wanted to stand next to her was the Early Warning Siren that went unheard.
