Toronto under siege: "Unprecedented escalation of coyote incidents"

Well, this is a little more than slightly terrifying. We're starting to see this in my city.
residents in Liberty Village and Fort York raised alarm bells last week over [italic]six coyote attacks in a single night.[/italic]
“The community is living in terror ... I still can’t sleep properly,” said Kooner, whose dog was on a leash when it was killed by coyotes. Her group has tracked [italic]50 reported attacks since November which include chases, assaults and lunges at residents.[/italic]

The USA is massing coyotes on the Canadian border...

by Anonymousreply 2February 21, 2025 1:01 PM

Coyotes are pissed

by Anonymousreply 3February 21, 2025 1:26 PM

I remember seeing coyotes in Fort York during the early days of COVID. Liberty Village is the playground of Gen Z and young millennials, with a lot of junk from places that sell food. Not surprising.

by Anonymousreply 4February 21, 2025 1:31 PM

Coyotes coming right up and killing pets being walked on leashes. Once it's gotten to this level Toronto's government will have to find a way to kill the coyotes, and then do it -- or sooner or later a toddler will get ripped apart.

by Anonymousreply 5February 21, 2025 1:34 PM

R5

There is only one documented case of a fatal coyote attack on a child - usually, they go after other animals, like dogs and cats.

by Anonymousreply 6February 21, 2025 1:36 PM

Pussies.

by Anonymousreply 7February 21, 2025 1:38 PM

R5, Toronto's council will be more inclined to invite the coyotes to a welcoming circle, ascertain their pronouns, and hear their truths.

This is an inclusive city for everyone!

by Anonymousreply 8February 21, 2025 1:52 PM

We have coyotes in DC. Not the end of the world. Definitely Team Coyote here.

Also, all they seem to have are a few anecdotes, probably endlessly circulated and embellished, coming from the kind of people who own malschipoos (Maltese Poodles).

by Anonymousreply 9February 21, 2025 1:55 PM

You're always free to move south of the border, R8. I have a hunch the current regime there is more to your liking.

by Anonymousreply 10February 21, 2025 1:55 PM

R9, you're just the right wing version of here. I'd rather put up with our incompetents than move to Gunlandia, but thanks for the invitation. Good luck down there, eh? And maybe spend some time learning what the centre is. It might just get you out of the mess you're in.

by Anonymousreply 11February 21, 2025 2:05 PM

Ah, shit... R11 was for R10, not R9. Dammit you cunts make me see red mist.

by Anonymousreply 12February 21, 2025 2:05 PM

I carry coyote spray now. Amazon sells it. I work in Toronto in a busy commercial office area.

I was getting out of my car last week just before 8am. As I was heading to the office entrance, a pack of 3 coyotes started to slowly converge on me. I guess they figured that all 3 of them together could take me down. As I started to sprint toward the office doors, they started to run toward me. The office maintenance guy who was by his truck watching the whole thing started to bang on the side of his truck to make noise, and started yelling at them to make them scatter...it didn't work. I made it inside the lobby entrance by the skin of my ass. They were on my heels the whole time.

Even though I'm in a 45% tax bracket, the gov't refuses to do anything about it because in Communist lite Canada, they don't care about whether or not you live or die.

by Anonymousreply 13February 21, 2025 2:12 PM

I'm truly sorry the 3 coyotes didn't get you R13. Hopefully they'll have better luck next time.

by Anonymousreply 14February 21, 2025 2:21 PM

I see coyotes all the time when I walk at night in LA. They're scared of humans. All you have to do is clap your hands loudly and they run away.

by Anonymousreply 15February 21, 2025 2:23 PM

Kindly fuck off, r15.

by Anonymousreply 16February 21, 2025 3:05 PM

We have coyotes seemingly everywhere here in Newport, Rhode Island of all places. A pair of them were in the backyard recently at night when we were walking our small dog. We keep him on a short leash. They ducked through a space in the fence into the neighbors yard, but being out there at night can be scary as they know there’s prey here.

by Anonymousreply 17February 21, 2025 3:26 PM

R16, you tell me to fuck off, but not R14?

by Anonymousreply 18February 21, 2025 4:21 PM

I have the cunt at R14 blocked already, r18.

by Anonymousreply 19February 21, 2025 5:43 PM

This is payback for all those years of looney tunes depicting us as hapless clown dogs who couldn't catch a cold. Did you know coyotes are FASTER than road runners, like fucking TWICE as fast???

And did we ever get credit our tunnel painting ability???

This study suggests coyotes got used to people during pandemic lockdown. This is scary. Their pups probably won't develop the fear of people following parents' example.

[QUOTE [Lewis’s study shows that several factors coincided during the 2020-2021 incidents, including increased human activity in the park as parties and gatherings were forced outdoors, and social distancing requirements that led to more people running solo in the park.
“As soon as the social restrictions in Vancouver got more extreme, and indoor social gatherings were restricted, we saw a big increase in aggressive encounters, including bite incidents in Stanley Park,” said Lewis.

As the animals became more used to humans being around, they became less afraid.
“The coyotes started to encounter more and more people. They started to realize all these people don’t really pose a threat, so they stopped avoiding people altogether,” said Lewis.

Fuck off R8. Toronto was ruled by the Conservatives for 14 years until Chow narrowly won the by-election.

by Anonymousreply 22June 10, 2025 4:16 PM

And guess what R8, the new wokeist mayor has done more to make real improvements to the city in a year than those cuntservatives did in 14.

by Anonymousreply 23June 10, 2025 4:18 PM

Team Coyote!

by Anonymousreply 24June 10, 2025 4:27 PM

Coyote team.

by Anonymousreply 25June 10, 2025 4:28 PM

Shoot em.

That’s what we do here. The cops will shoot them or animal control will.

They’re all over, but not as bad as they’ve been in the past. They tend to keep the deer population down (I hate those fuckers, and if I could field dress and find a slaughterhouse, I’d shoot em and eat ‘em).

by Anonymousreply 26June 10, 2025 4:29 PM

There's been such a tremendous amount of development in Toronto that I wonder if some of the increased coyote population is because of that.....chased from their old habitats into competing for resources in the city.

by Anonymousreply 27June 10, 2025 4:31 PM

You sound delightful, R26. Is your name Kristi Noem, by any chance?

by Anonymousreply 28June 10, 2025 4:32 PM

This is a fight to save civilization.

by Anonymousreply 29June 10, 2025 4:34 PM
Even though I'm in a 45% tax bracket, the gov't refuses to do anything about it because in Communist lite Canada, they don't care about whether or not you live or die.

In Amerikkka, the federal government does care, and they would very much like for us to die. The Dump administration will soon mobilize coyotes to attack peaceful protesters in Southern California.

I'd trade places with you.

by Anonymousreply 30June 10, 2025 4:34 PM
I see coyotes all the time when I walk at night in LA. They're scared of humans. All you have to do is clap your hands loudly and they run away.

Very true. Coyotes are out very conspicuously in Los Angeles because our rat population has exploded. I think due to the homeless situation and increased construction displacing rat nests. Anyway, Coyotes here still avoid humans.

by Anonymousreply 31June 10, 2025 4:41 PM

Christmas sales of Acme Anvils were up 53% - so I think we should have all seen this coming.

by Anonymousreply 32June 10, 2025 4:51 PM

I live in Houston and they are everywhere but rarely cause problems except for missing pets. Here's the deal though. Their hunting grounds can be quite extensive. Once they run out of food, they move on. If people would keep their pets in they'd move. As long as theirs a source, they'll stay.

Poor things are running out of habitat.

by Anonymousreply 33June 10, 2025 4:56 PM

This man fought a coyote that attacked him for 20 minutes before strangling it to death.

R34 - that's a nightmare. I've seen a lot of coyotes in California but they're mainly chill. I think they may be rummaging behind the marijuana dispensaries because I've never felt in danger or seen one even remotely wanting to attack.

But seeing one is one thing - seeing and hearing a pack of coyotes, now that still makes me nervous.

Send your immigrant coyotes to Pennsylvania, Canada!

This is so strange. In Toronto of all places. Like they’re eating loco weed or are rabid.

by Anonymousreply 37June 10, 2025 11:55 PM

Or are wild predators

by Anonymousreply 38June 10, 2025 11:56 PM

I hope they’re not studying the orca attack plan.

by Anonymousreply 39June 10, 2025 11:56 PM

Orca attack plan? Now i'm interested. Is this some sort of new diet? I've been having some "issues" with a certain whale.

by Anonymousreply 40June 11, 2025 12:06 AM

R34, "Note to self: if attacked by coyote, do not waste time on preliminaries, strangle animal immediately." (No day is wasted if you learn something).

by Anonymousreply 41June 11, 2025 12:27 AM

they need to be culled.

by Anonymousreply 42June 11, 2025 12:51 AM

There are probably different genetic strains of animals in different locations with some more aggressive than others. Would scarce food sources lead to more aggressive interactions with humans?

by Anonymousreply 43June 11, 2025 2:17 AM

I much prefer the raccoons.

Toronto is a suprisingly dull place. You can't blame the coyotes for seeking out some fun.

by Anonymousreply 45June 11, 2025 10:36 AM

You ain't joking, r45. Toronto honored a dead raccoon to keep things lively.

by Anonymousreply 46June 11, 2025 5:26 PM

And they remembered it nine years later. Toronto folks create their own fun.
