R2, Soupy hosted a show on WNBC at the same time as Howard. They had a rocky relationship and Howard and crew talked about him constantly.

Bea Arthur was never hated.

Jay Leno apparently hated his guts for a long time, publicly.

I remember an episode of the show where they had vide (later 90s I think) where Burt Reynolds was making an appearance at a mall or somewhere, and they sent out Stuttering John to do his usual schtick on him.

When Burt recognized him he got up and grabbed John by the collar and was super angry (at Howard) and was saying something like, “You tell him…” really threatening-like. It was ugly to watch.

Then they played the footage in the studio and were mocking him as usual. It was like, “Is that assault?”

I’m not sure if Burt ever came around and was a friend.

I look forward to reading an honest biography of Stern. This hating business would be a great way of analyzing his evolution over the years.

Stern picked the side of Letterman during the Letterman v. Leno feud.

I roll my eyes every time I see a clip of the new, "nice" version of Howard, so desperate to leave a legacy of being a great interviewer.

Like most broadcasters, he'll be forgotten about a month after he dies.

Imus vs Stern was epic because Imus was a scalpel while Stern was a blunt instrument.
