Noel Gallagher hasn’t had a hit single this century. Someone should ask Tara Kemp or Sophie B Hawkins what they think… it’s about as contemporary.

Oasis was the band with the biggest ego in the 90s, as a part of the second "British Invasion " they weren't even the best band out of that lot. Blur, the Verve and Radiohead were in that ilk, and were better performers. I didn't see the halftime show until seeing this, thought that something of theirs was sampled or something. Love older rap, not a huge fan of contemporary rap though, his performance was amazing.

Oasis was part of the THIRD British Invasion. The second British invasion was the New Romantics on MTV in the early Eighties: Duran Duran, English Beat, ABC, Spandau Ballet, Haircut One Hundred, Culture Club, Adam Ant, etc.

Oasis always felt like a band pushed on US audiences and all the bitching and fighting between the two brothers. One album did well in the US - and then that was pretty much it.

It was more of a UK phenomenon that they believe was worldwide - it really wasn't.

There were 23 UK top 40 hits for Oasis - there was only 1 in the US.

Brits always put Oasis on this pedestal - the rest of the world just shrugs their shoulders. They receive an inordinate amount of press for their popularity outside of the UK - usually because of lazy copy and paste articles from UK tabloids.

What's the Story is absolutely massive globally. It is one of the 10 most streamed 90s albums on Spotify. Wonderwall has almost 2.5 billion streams and Don't Look Back in Anger has 1 billion. Maybe their appeal was UK specific at the time of release but that's definitely not the case today.
