Anyone watching Paradise on Hulu with James Marsden and Sterling K. Brown?
Paradise is an American political thriller television series created by Dan Fogelman and starring Sterling K. Brown, Julianne Nicholson, and James Marsden.
It's just another day in Paradise until Agent Xavier Collins discovers one of the world's most powerful individuals has been viciously murdered. That person just happens to be the former President of the United States.
The first episode is quite cinematic with great acting, pace, plot, editing, and cinematography. It’ll be interesting to see how it compares to Olympus Has Fallen and Designated Survivor.

Oh wow. I did not expect that twist until the last few minutes before it was revealed. Quite another layer to the mystery.

Just watched the first episode. The twist at the end was certainly unexpected.

R2 I suspected the twist about 15 minutes before the ending but it was still rather surprising. However, I do wonder if the suspense can stay. So far it’s a better version of The Agency — there is actually a plot here.

Can Julianne Nicholson’s character be anymore unlikable?

I wonder if it’ll end up being like The Truman Show.

This is so stupid...SPOILER...the whole president scenario for 25k people is ridiculous....there are 25k in a small neighborhood

Julianne/Sinatra is Elon, right?

I don't really like the twist. Was hoping it was just a straight up whodunit mystery. I stopped watching.

R9, yes, clearly, but I’ll be disappointed if that icky psychologist isn’t up to something awful too.

A gay character finally appeared on the season finale. Although he was clearly in love with somebody and his feelings didn’t seem to have been reciprocated.

I'm loving this. The way it is is being told 1/2 in flashbacks is REALLY well done.
I've always loved Julianne Nicholson and she's excellent. James Marsden is so hot.

Disagreed. "The Agency" is still handily the better show, despite the problematic translation of the French series it's based upon, and a number of this show's plot elements were just silly. Xavier spent the ENTIRE season – until discovering his wife is still alive – being weirdly aggro about Cal "not keeping his promise to save his wife," never mind that doing so would've jeopardized thousands of lives.
Also, the suggestion that ANYONE is alive on that planet after a legit worst-case scenario – an Antarctic supervolcano is theoretically possible, and if so the 300-foot-tall tsunamis would've basically hit the entire planet – is a stretch, but OTOH I get that that's why they invented a "Plan B" where the nuclear football instead works as some sort of also-magical global EMP. (You'd also need energy levels comparable to a nuclear explosion to create an EMP THAT big.)

R21, I believe R20 is referring to an electromagnetic pulse.

Can't believe there isn't more talk about PARADISE. I'm actually re-watching it to see little things in retrospect. '

R21, an EMP is as described at R22, with the caveat that they're only theoretical in nature – thankfully we haven't had a nuclear war to worry about. (Yet.)
EMPs have been used as MacGuffins in everything from "Ocean's 11" (Clooney version) – the 11 used one to kill the power in Vegas in order to break into the Bellagio's safe – to "Fast & Furious" movies, but they nearly always get it wrong. Including "Paradise."
In real life, an EMP doesn't just "selectively" knock out all sources of power. The one on the show would've unavoidably knocked Air Force One – and everything else airborne – out of the sky at the same time the nukes were deactivated, but obviously that wouldn't work for plot purposes.
It'd also require thousands – if not tens of thousands – of *individual* EMP satellites to produce such an effect. And we're supposed to buy that this tech was invented 60+ years ago, after the Cuban Missile Crisis? (OTOH it's more believable than creating a dystopian world that's literally only two miles wide but visually looks like a standard American suburb. (In stark contrast to, say, "Silo," which is way more technical/sci-fi but also way better.)

I'd rather watch a show where one of the world's most powerful individuals had been viciously slapped.
That would be more in keeping with the spirit of Data;lounge.

I enjoyed this show a bit more as it reached the end of the season, but it relied too much on characters making blatantly stupid decisions to move the plot along. Agent William's death after promising to tell Collins everything "tomorrow" after basically telling Sinatra she'd have to kill him to keep him from exposing her was beyond clichéd.
And once Sinatra put all her cards on the table and mustache twirled her way to telling Collins he'd have to obey her because she'd kidnapped his daughter, who wouldn't have just shot her right there? The less said about agent Driscoll the better. What a terrible character.
That said, the episodes that showed the disaster as it occurred were gripping and effectively set up why we might be rooting against this community in the future, if there is another season. The librarian was a surprisingly good villain in that regard, even if he was given too little time in the final episodes.

This show started off well, but it got progressively worse as it went on. Episode 7, however, was one of the most intense hours of television I've ever seen. The final episode was underwhelming and kind of silly. But I will watch season two, whenever it begins airing.

Have watched only 2 episodes, but part of the concept is a borrow from Hulu's MURDER AT THE END OF THE WORLD.

Relented and gave in to all the hens cackling about the show even after I rolled my eyes at the end of ep. 1. I hated all of it, though I will give Ep. 7 some love. But the other ones, especially the finale, were terrible. Keep it.

James Marsden is the most handsome guy in Hollywood. He doesnt get leading roles but im constantly surprised that he takes such small parts. Hes consantly working but why isnt he a Star?

This show reminds me of Under the Dome. Both shows started out strong with a similar premise, and then became weaker as the season progressed. I hope Paradise doesn't completely fall apart in the second season the way that Under the Dome did.
Can you believe that Under the Dome was 12 years ago?

I was disappointed by the first episode revelation as the preceding events were so tight and interesting that I was hoping for a conventional thriller.
But it played out interestingly. Sterling K Brown is expected to be brilliant and he was, and James Marsden was especially good.
What happened to the president’s wife? Was she just absent after the first eps?

I’m curious for season 2, which may be mostly, if not entirely, devoted to what’s happening on the surface
Two casting notes, I didn’t recognize Gerald MacRaney as the President’s father, and the actress who plays the psycho agent Jane just married Justin Theroux in Mexico.
