Who or what would you like to see in a revamped version of the show?

[quote]“It has been a long-held dream of mine to carry on my father’s legacy and adapt Wilder’s classic American stories for a 21st century audience

"My pronouns are the finest pronouns in all of Walnut Grove ... "

Meet Nonbinary Nellie.

by Anonymousreply 1January 29, 2025 7:54 PM

One of the kids needs to be gay on the prairie.

by Anonymousreply 2January 29, 2025 8:03 PM

The reality of life on the midwestern prairie in the 19th century: incest, madness, high infant mortality, alcoholism, spousal abuse, casual homicide, high suicide rates, bestiality.

by Anonymousreply 3January 29, 2025 8:05 PM

Donner Party crossover.

by Anonymousreply 4January 29, 2025 8:07 PM

Timothee IS PA Ingalls

by Anonymousreply 5January 29, 2025 8:07 PM

Laura's sister Carrie and her daughter Rose lives way more interesting lives than Laura ever did. I would rather watch a show on them.

by Anonymousreply 6January 29, 2025 8:09 PM

*lived

by Anonymousreply 7January 29, 2025 8:09 PM

The entire series should stand as a tribute to David Lynch, taking a cue from the beloved (by DL) episode Sylvia from the original run.

About time! I’d like to see some homosex where the man goes up into the man, on the prairie

by Anonymousreply 9January 29, 2025 8:31 PM

The Markels ore the Reynolds as the Olsons would be fun.

by Anonymousreply 10January 29, 2025 8:56 PM

Starring Alison Arngrim as Harriet Olsen.

by Anonymousreply 11January 29, 2025 8:59 PM

Little Fairy on the Prairie

by Anonymousreply 12January 29, 2025 9:02 PM

Season one involves a mystery which unravels to show that Nels Oleson is the biological father of all the children in Walnut Grove.

It would be nice to address more adult storylines. Start with a rename: The Best Little House On the Prairie.

by Anonymousreply 13January 29, 2025 9:06 PM

Buck Rogers gives Ma a screaming orgasm.

by Anonymousreply 14January 29, 2025 9:07 PM

Jesus fuck, people, can we be serious for a minute?

It would be amazing if the new series was more faithful to the books. The show that aired years ago was complete crap and full of fabrications and drama for tv ratings.

Yes, I know the point of tv is drama and excitement and yes, I faithfully watched every episode until the end, but I knew as I watched that it was nothing like the books.

by Anonymousreply 15January 29, 2025 9:23 PM

Is Ryan Murphy or Shonda producing?

by Anonymousreply 16January 29, 2025 9:32 PM

Maybe this is something we need.

by Anonymousreply 17January 29, 2025 9:45 PM

Never read the books or followed the show so I have no idea what to expect. All three of my sisters read the books and the youngest watched the show with our dad when he retired. And he watched only M*A*S*H, Little House, and anything news related. I was in my teens when the show aired so to me IT SUCKED. I saw it as similar to The Waltons and by then I'd had my fill of them.

Now I'm around the age or older that my father was when he watched it. Maybe I should give it a try. My sisters read the books at elementary school age. I was steered toward the boys' books. Are they kids' books?

R15, I am mostly asking you. Could a viable series work by being faithful the the original story?

by Anonymousreply 18January 29, 2025 10:11 PM

The interpersonal relations on that set were so terrible, according to her book, I can't look at it the same way. What a bag of assholes.

by Anonymousreply 19January 29, 2025 10:20 PM

Who does R15 think she is? Laura Fucking Ingalls Wilder??

by Anonymousreply 20January 29, 2025 11:13 PM

The should cast some Hollywood cad who can’t keep his pecker in his pants…. oh, they already did that.

by Anonymousreply 21January 29, 2025 11:14 PM

Laura should have a hunky older brother whose nickname is “Full Pint”.

by Anonymousreply 22January 29, 2025 11:14 PM

I hope my Pa isn't played by a darkie.

by Anonymousreply 23January 29, 2025 11:21 PM

R3 R15 - Even Wilder sanitized the reality of it. Everybody should be dead at the end of season 1 from typhoid.

by Anonymousreply 24January 29, 2025 11:26 PM

Shitbra should be worked into the story somehow.

by Anonymousreply 25January 29, 2025 11:33 PM

I'd like to see big hangin' Uncle Chris take Ma from behind while tweaking her nipples. And then have it be revealed that Mary was peeping in horror from a windowless pane and this was what caused her to go blind right then and there.

by Anonymousreply 26January 29, 2025 11:34 PM

R24, the books go into great detail about how the family all nearly died from malaria and how they were saved by a Black doctor.

Disease is not given a front row seat in the books, but it’s not absent.

by Anonymousreply 27January 29, 2025 11:35 PM

There needs to be a whorehouse in the reboot.

by Anonymousreply 28January 29, 2025 11:35 PM

In real life, they lived in what was basically a whorehouse (or upstairs from it).

by Anonymousreply 29January 29, 2025 11:37 PM

There was a possible molestation of one of the girls by a drunk.

by Anonymousreply 30January 29, 2025 11:37 PM

Alison Arngrim needs to make an appearance in any reboot! I would watch to see her.

by Anonymousreply 31January 29, 2025 11:38 PM

In their tradition of not being able to read the room, I envision Netflix casting Meghan and Harry as Ma and Pa Ingalls.

by Anonymousreply 32January 29, 2025 11:41 PM

Gabourey Sidibe IS Ma Ingalls

by Anonymousreply 33January 29, 2025 11:46 PM

They’re going to shoehorn-in at least one if not two black characters or, more than likely, recast one if the Ingalls as black or make the Olsens black. Oh, and we WILL get some form of trans/nonbinary character.

by Anonymousreply 34January 30, 2025 12:05 AM

R34 But your ass sho nuff didn’t care when shows were shoehorning gay characters into tv shows and movies when Americans didn’t want them.

by Anonymousreply 35January 30, 2025 12:07 AM

Rock on, r35. And Little House had black guest stars in the day, which some people probably thought was "woke"

And hardly any shows have trans characters, so I'm not sure why you assume this one will

by Anonymousreply 36January 30, 2025 12:09 AM

R34 Did you not see where IN THE BOOKS a Black doctor saved the family? And there were plenty of Native Americans in the books, too. Pa had a very liberal view of them.

by Anonymousreply 37January 30, 2025 12:15 AM

"Gabourey Sidibe IS Ma Ingalls"

Gabourey Sidibe ATE Ma Ingalls

by Anonymousreply 38January 30, 2025 12:16 AM

Nellie Olson helps the Army arrest and deport all the Canadians living illegally in Wallnut Grove. When the government imposes a two-gender-only, Adam makes a shocking confession.

by Anonymousreply 39January 30, 2025 12:27 AM

Why do you think Nellie got her name?

by Anonymousreply 40January 30, 2025 12:29 AM

Carrie will be the autistic character. She was just a retard in the original.

by Anonymousreply 41January 30, 2025 12:30 AM

Very excited to see Laverne Cox's performance in this.

by Anonymousreply 42January 30, 2025 12:35 AM

Wasn't Laura I. daughter a bisexual in real life?

They should include her in the later seasons.

Ma & Pa I. screwed folks with the diner & skipped outta town.

That realism should be included as well.

by Anonymousreply 43January 30, 2025 12:39 AM

R39 I'd watch every minute of that version LOL!

by Anonymousreply 44January 30, 2025 12:41 AM

There needs to be a reboot showing what a loser pa was

by Anonymousreply 45January 30, 2025 12:56 AM

Who knew the original Pa Ingalls was an actor of color!

by Anonymousreply 46January 30, 2025 1:06 AM

Yes, R18, absolutely!!

I would love to hear the cracking of the solid ice of the mighty Mississippi River when the young family was crossing it during an early spring when they left their house in the woods.

I would love to ride along with the family in the covered wagon as they made their way west. When the native Americans were holding their pow-wows near the cabin Pa had built on the massive prairie. The little brown Indian baby that Laura had wanted so desperately to keep even though he had a mother.

The little sod house where they lived on Plum Creek.

Would love to see the Wilders’ well-run, prosperous farm.

That long hard winter where many people gave up and moved back east.

Would live to meet the real Mr Edward’s, the thin, lanky fellow instead of the tubby actor from the show.

There are many, many adventures and obviously years they could go through.

The books are really an easy read. They’re not necessarily for little girls or little kids. You would probably get thru them fairly quickly. They are very, very descriptive. I like where Laura says that the reason she was describing things in her life as well as she did was because she would always describe everything to Mary. She made everything come alive.

I think I might read the books again, I do own them all. 😬

by Anonymousreply 47January 30, 2025 1:12 AM

Listen to them, r47. Cherry Jones is a fantastic narrator.

by Anonymousreply 48January 30, 2025 1:31 AM

R47 That’s a good idea.

by Anonymousreply 49January 30, 2025 1:38 AM

Liza as Mrs Olshen!

by Anonymousreply 50January 30, 2025 1:39 AM

Oh, I never thought about that, R48. Thanks for the suggestion.

by Anonymousreply 51January 30, 2025 1:45 AM

Adjusted for the 2025 audience...

Pa heroically thwarts Liberal Elite Harriet Olson's 'woke' plan to provide relief to the poor. Miss Beadle must intervene when a boy in her class claims to be a girl and assaults other girls despite the objections of 'woke' Harriet Olson. Reverend Aldin humiliates 'woke' Harriet Olson by quoting the Bible when Harriet Olson argues that 'homosexuals' can marry. Harriet Olson, humiliated and without the comfort only a TRUE christian faith can provide, kills herself. Little liberal snowflake Nellie Olson vows revenge...starting with Laura Ingalls (who has God on her side)!!

^ If it pisses off Megyn they should make it as woke as possible

by Anonymousreply 54January 30, 2025 1:58 AM

Pa becomes a follower of a disheveled carnival barker who spews insults about Indians saying they’re rapists and not the finest people. The carnival barker has bankrupted many towns along his destructive path, but despite knowing this, and knowing the carnival barker is a pathological lying rapist, more and more townspeople start joining Pa as followers as their lust for anger and grievance fill their increasingly empty souls. Pa kicks disabled Mary out of the Little House due to the shame of having a defective daughter. She’s raped and killed by an unknown clown. Laura meets Almanzo, a pedo who is 23 to her 13, starts following as well to no one’s surprise. He soon radicalizes her. Squaw LaughsALot comes to town to try and reason with the townsfolk. She offers them all kinds of policies which will make their lives infinitely better, and to turn away from the darkness and hate, but she is shockingly scalped by Half Pint who disturbingly runs around town wearing the scalp with blood running down her face laughing hysterically.

by Anonymousreply 55January 30, 2025 2:00 AM

[quote]Over Megyn's dead body

She wouldn't make it through two hours of vintage Little House on the Prairie if she's really that triggered by what she calls wokeness. Progressivism and decency, two things she's deeply threatened by, were at the center of almost every episode.

by Anonymousreply 56January 30, 2025 2:09 AM

I don’t think they would do anything to “woke-afy” whatever that means, that project.

If they tried anything stupid like that, I’d join that horrid cunt, Kelly,

by Anonymousreply 57January 30, 2025 2:15 AM

R57 You’d join that stupid cunt over something you don’t even know what it means?

Thy cunt is you.

by Anonymousreply 58January 30, 2025 2:17 AM

Hester-Sue was a DEI hire

by Anonymousreply 59January 30, 2025 2:32 AM

Wouldn't blind Mary also be a DEI hire?

Also, the little cripple girl with one leg longer than the other.

by Anonymousreply 60January 30, 2025 2:43 AM

“OH MY GOD THEY HAVE A TON OF INDIANS AND A BLIND GIRL AND A BLACK DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! MY GOD NOOOOOOOOOO! IT WAS ALL NORMAL WHITE PEOPLE BACK THEN. THAT’S ALL. JUST.NORMAL.WHITE.PEOPLE!!!!!!!”

by Anonymousreply 61January 30, 2025 2:46 AM

Mary was an actual person, she was blinded by, I think, scarlet fever?

by Anonymousreply 62January 30, 2025 2:51 AM

R62

“NOT TRUE. THERE WERE NOOOO BLIIIIND PEOPLE BACK THEN. JUST PERFECT WHITE PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!”

by Anonymousreply 63January 30, 2025 2:53 AM

I hope it embarrasses those of you who are on the same side as Megyn Kelly.

by Anonymousreply 64January 30, 2025 2:55 AM

r62 I read today that although Mary's blindness was originally attributed to Scarlet Fever, it was in fact because of viral encephalitis. They did some big study with a whole bunch of historical data that points to encephalitis as the real cause.

by Anonymousreply 65January 30, 2025 3:09 AM

The more interesting question is why none of the Ingalls women were able to bear a living son. Caroline, Laura, and Rose all lost infant boys.

by Anonymousreply 66January 30, 2025 3:31 AM

Rose helped found the Libertarian party so she's partly responsible for the mess we're in now.

by Anonymousreply 67January 30, 2025 3:33 AM

aka Westworld season 5

by Anonymousreply 68January 30, 2025 3:34 AM

I’d like to watch a show about Albert struggling to remain sober while living in the old west

by Anonymousreply 69January 30, 2025 3:37 AM

[quote][R62] I read today that although Mary's blindness was originally attributed to Scarlet Fever, it was in fact because of viral encephalitis. They did some big study with a whole bunch of historical data that points to encephalitis as the real cause.

Didn't the family believe it was scarlet fever? Isn't that what Laura Ingalls Wilder write was the cause?

Does viral encephalitis present sufficiently close to scarlet fever that a poorly trained Doc Baker wouldn't know the difference?

by Anonymousreply 70January 30, 2025 3:39 AM

Did doc baker go to Devry?

by Anonymousreply 71January 30, 2025 3:41 AM

r70:

[quote] At age 14, Ingalls suffered an illness – allegedly scarlet fever – thought at the time to cause her blindness.[1][2] A 2013 medical study concluded that viral encephalitis actually disrupted her eyesight, based on evidence from first-hand accounts and newspaper reports of her illness, as well as relevant school registries, and epidemiologic data on blindness and infectious diseases.

Mary made the best out of her situation. Laura helped pay the bills when Mary went to a school for the blind.

Laura endured pretty harsh conditions when she was working as a teacher. She was miserable and the house she had to live in during one winter was very difficult for her because the people were mean.

by Anonymousreply 73January 30, 2025 4:12 AM

Who is Albert??

by Anonymousreply 74January 30, 2025 4:13 AM

Pa Ingalls - Armie Hammer

Ma Ingalls - Leighton Meester

Mary - Unknown

Laura - Unknown

R72 That's a man in drag for sure!!!

by Anonymousreply 76January 30, 2025 5:11 AM

R53 What's Megyn going to do try to get a role on the show as the new Nellie Olsen?

by Anonymousreply 77January 30, 2025 5:13 AM

This is a terrific biography of Laura...it ties her lifestory in with American history.

And, yeah, Rose Wilder Lane wouldn't have been our friend...one of the pioneers of the Libertarian Party

I had a love hate relationship with the TV show. I loved the books and I was about 11 or so when the show came out and it really annoyed me. Pa was ALL wrong! No beard and some dumb actor with a perm and fake tan. Walnut Grove was the stupidest "town"...its layout made no sense. And, don't get me started on those mountains...in southern Minnesota.

by Anonymousreply 80January 30, 2025 7:48 AM

A great read about the real version is ‘Prairie Fires: The American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder’ by Caroline Fraser. It won awarded the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Biography. It frames Laura’s life in the historical context of the day and is fascinating and even handed. My main take-aways: Pa was a dreamer and loser and ultimately poor provider who constantly uprooted, endangered and beggared his family. In retrospect, they should have stayed in the Big Woods is Wisconsin in the beautiful Driftless area instead of ending up in the godforsaken Dakota Territory. Laura wasn’t always a particularly kind person and had a complicated relationship with her daughter Rose. Rose and her parents were big Libertarians. It was interesting to see some of the historical roots of that way of thinking. They would all likely be MAGA today especially living in the Missouri sundown town they ended up in

by Anonymousreply 81January 30, 2025 8:22 AM

This is also a great book - The World of Laura Ingalls Wilder. This explores the natural world in the times and places where she lived.

My great great grandmother was born in 1875. She died in 1985. 109 years old. 11 kids. The things m dad told me about the things she witnessed are fascinating. She saw it all.

by Anonymousreply 83January 30, 2025 10:57 AM

Another vote for Alison Arngrim as the new Harriet Oleson.

by Anonymousreply 84January 30, 2025 12:10 PM

Tori Spelling should play Ma.

by Anonymousreply 85January 30, 2025 12:24 PM

Alison Arngrim would be too old to play Harriet Olsen. But if they are focusing on the books, then she would be great as a guest star as Pa’s mother who outdances everyone in little house in the big woods.

by Anonymousreply 86January 30, 2025 12:28 PM

R86 One small problem....Alison Arngrim is an awful actress.

There's a reason why she went to standup. No one wanted to cast her in roles.

by Anonymousreply 87January 30, 2025 9:13 PM

I bet Grassle is pissed

by Anonymousreply 88January 30, 2025 9:20 PM

I wonder if the new Carrie will be retarded?

by Anonymousreply 89January 30, 2025 9:22 PM

Between this and the Malcolm in the Middle reboot, Linwood Boomer could be having a moment

by Anonymousreply 90January 30, 2025 9:30 PM

It is written between the lines in all the stuff about her, but aside from being an early Libertarian, Rose Wilder Lane was completely batshit and likely a lesbian. Laura herself was no prize but Rose was nuts.

by Anonymousreply 91January 30, 2025 10:09 PM

Netflix will ruin it with everyone saying fuck this and fuck that. They’ll all be shooting and stabbing each other when they’re not having swx.

by Anonymousreply 92January 30, 2025 10:25 PM

Sex!

by Anonymousreply 93January 30, 2025 10:25 PM

Walnut Grove will have one adorable black family, one adorable Asian family, one adorable Latin family, someone in a wheelchair, some closety queer character that everyone accepts and likes except for the mean white folk, the Ingalls, some mean white folk, and lots of hugs!

The women characters will all have agency and feminist power.

To save money, the show will either be filmed in Australia or George. It will look nothing like Kansas/Minnesota/South Dakota.

by Anonymousreply 94January 30, 2025 10:43 PM

Damn my rapid typing and lack of edit button on DL even though it's 2025 and there's really no excuse to not have that option.

GEORGIA!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 95January 30, 2025 10:43 PM

Lily Gladstone will play "Ms Running Water" the new school teacher in town. She will impart wisdom and guidance in a firm but loving way.

by Anonymousreply 96January 30, 2025 10:45 PM

R94, well that will be in line with the original show, which filmed in California and looked nothing like MN

by Anonymousreply 97January 30, 2025 10:48 PM

First of all, don't have it set in Santa Clarita, CA. It needs to be on the prairie. Where are the grass roofed houses like in the books? Where's the game of vying for the fried pig's tail?

2nd... we need some plague and also some good Native American drama. Mary gets knocked up by the Chief's son and goes off to their land with her lover. Pa rustles up an army of angry white men to get her back...

by Anonymousreply 98January 30, 2025 10:59 PM

Mary Ingalls is now transgender (born Marcus). Mary falls in love with a 2-Spirit Ojibway and they "marry" but tragedy strikes after the couple is attacked by a posse of fat white bigots. Mary goes blind and bitter and exhausted from explaining things to those less informed. She writes a best selling memoir in Braille and moves to Manhattan where she becomes the toast of the town for a season before losing all her money and fancy friends. She ends up turning tricks as "Blindass Bitch Mary" on the Bowery before dying of the lumbago.

by Anonymousreply 104January 31, 2025 1:06 AM

by Anonymousreply 105January 31, 2025 1:19 AM

by Anonymousreply 106January 31, 2025 1:26 AM

by Anonymousreply 109January 31, 2025 2:44 AM

by Anonymousreply 110January 31, 2025 3:05 AM

by Anonymousreply 114January 31, 2025 5:37 PM

Who asked for this? It was an OK series - but it's very dated and I just don't see how it will appeal to 2020s audience. It's not like a Roseanne reboot.

God knows Melissa Gilbert will milk this for every ounce she can get. She's SO thirsty.

by Anonymousreply 115January 31, 2025 5:54 PM

The books are well-loved classics. I'm usually not keen on reboots, but if they make an adaptation more faithful to the source material, it could be great.

by Anonymousreply 116January 31, 2025 6:03 PM

Melissa G. should play the new Harriet O.

She has the acting chops to pull it off.

by Anonymousreply 117January 31, 2025 6:09 PM

So probably yes?

by Anonymousreply 125January 31, 2025 8:06 PM

Everyone thought Caroline married beneath her and they were right. Charles was a loser who subjected his family to poverty, disease, and isolation. Carrie suffered lifelong consequences because of malnutrition.

Laura was almost sold into prostitution! In Iowa, when the family was at their lowest point, a well dressed woman offered to take Laura in and put her to work. Ma was no fool and she told the lady to fuck off.

by Anonymousreply 127January 31, 2025 8:23 PM

It's interesting that this is happening now.

We're three years away from the Ingalls family going into public domain. The first book in the series, "Little House in the Big Woods" was published in 1932.

Soon, ANYONE can do anything they want with the Little House characters.

by Anonymousreply 128January 31, 2025 8:58 PM

Did Michael Landon buy the rights to all the books? Because it would be funny if other networks had snatched up the others and he suddenly had to compete with Little House in the Big Woods, Little House on the Banks of Plum Creek, etc. [bold]: o

by Anonymousreply 129January 31, 2025 9:17 PM

R127 - well, that's because the woman wanted payment for such a plain buck-toothed young woman.

by Anonymousreply 130January 31, 2025 9:21 PM

R128: “Soon, ANYONE can do anything they want with the Little House characters.”

I already did that with those characters

by Anonymousreply 131January 31, 2025 9:22 PM

Well, didn’t they pretty much HAVE to invent storylines for the show? If they stuck to the books it would mostly be butchering hogs, making maple candy from syrup in the snow, going to a dance at an aunt’s house…. these aren’t extended, dramatic events.

by Anonymousreply 132January 31, 2025 9:27 PM

"Soon, ANYONE can do anything they want with the Little House characters."

I smell a Slasher flick! Little Slaughterhouse on the Prairie or Sylvia's Revenge.

by Anonymousreply 133January 31, 2025 9:44 PM

I Adore the original. When Aloson Arngrim engaged in chat with me on FB it was so special.. shes great. So many of the original cast brought more to their roles than was on the page. They Have to be loyal to the original show, sets, casting, vibe. I loved how they found lokalikes for the Brady movies...that worked. I think the time is right for this, we need more love and positively..this is even obvious in how realitet shows arent going for drama and spiteful chatacters anymore...the public is over it. Melissa G, and Anderson, and Alison Arngrim Have to be involved somehow...pleeeeease.

by Anonymousreply 134January 31, 2025 9:58 PM

They had to invent storylines for the show because they didn't bother to follow the books. The Ingalls were only in Walnut Grove for a short period of time. The Little House on the Priairie book and the pilot movie were about their year in southern Kansas. The next book in the series, On The Banks of Plum Creek covers their time near Walnut Grove. Really, they should have continued the tv show with the book series and moved them along to South Dakota/DeSmet.

Tyler Perry in his Madea costume as Hester Sue!

R137 - that bow is EVERYTHING! Subtle yet coquettish.

She kept her shanks hidden in that bow - little known fact.

by Anonymousreply 138January 31, 2025 10:17 PM

r137, As an only child, I had an imaginary sister. Her name was Nancy, based right off the TV screen. Everyone hated us! Why do you hate me so much, mother? Then one day, she was gone.

I would watch The Best Little Whorehouse on the Prairie.

Are Burt and Dolly available? 🤣

by Anonymousreply 140January 31, 2025 10:34 PM

R129 Landon was too cheap to buy the rights to all the books. I recall he only bought the rights to the first book & b.s.ed his way through a decade's worth of episodes which is how we got Adam, Albert & Mary's baby. In real life, Mary was never that independent & was to be cared for at home.

by Anonymousreply 141February 1, 2025 12:51 AM

After Pa died Laura never saw Mary or Ma again. Carrie was the only relative she invited to Rocky Ridge farm in Mansfield, MO. Real life Laura seems like a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 142February 1, 2025 1:12 AM

R142 is too fucking dumb to understand the world that existed then.

by Anonymousreply 143February 1, 2025 1:50 AM

Rose traveled all over the world but never went back to South Dakota. Laura took an extended trip to California. They traveled but clearly had no desire to see the Ingalls family again.

by Anonymousreply 144February 1, 2025 2:32 AM

If you follow the LHOTP subreddits and FB groups, so many are still traumatised by Sylvia and that clown. A close second is the cringeworthy episode that featured Carrie and her godsister Alyssa. Third would be Alice Garvey using Mary’s baby as a battering ram whilst the blond school was consumed with fire.

by Anonymousreply 145February 1, 2025 8:10 AM

*blind not blond

by Anonymousreply 146February 1, 2025 8:12 AM

Landon was one of the producers on LHOTP but the main producer was Ed Friendly and their production company is involved with this new show, too. Friendly had the rights, not Landon. And, no, it wasn't for one book. The pilot movie was actually based on the book named Little House on the Prairie. The series was originally based on characters and situations from the next book, On The Banks of Plum Creek, covering their time living in Minnesota. But, there are elements from later books that show up, with the main one being Almanzo Wilder. They also added some real life Ingalls family stuff. And, obviously, just made up some crazy ass shit like the scary clown and the blind school fire. And, Mary getting married. And, Pa's idiotic perm hairdo and thick layer of makeup.

by Anonymousreply 147February 1, 2025 9:07 AM

Pa kept uprooting his family in a neverending search for a blow comb.

by Anonymousreply 148February 1, 2025 9:09 AM

Looking at OP's pic, I never realized before just how swarthy Michael Landon was. I like now more than I liked back then.

by Anonymousreply 149February 1, 2025 3:41 PM

That "swarth" came out of a spray gun.

by Anonymousreply 150February 1, 2025 8:11 PM

I always thought it would be cool if the actors who played Almanzo and Laura would reprise their roles as middle aged/elderly. When Laura was writing her books and living at Rocky Ridge farm and Rose would help her write them. I wonder who would make a good Rose as a woman approaching middle age?

by Anonymousreply 151February 1, 2025 8:25 PM

Melissa Gilbert is now the right age for them to do a movie about Laura's writing career and complicated relationship with Rose.

by Anonymousreply 152February 1, 2025 8:31 PM

They should cast Melissa Gilbert as the little old troll like woman who lives in the woods. They drag her out to try her as a witch and Rob Lowe shows up at the end to save her.

by Anonymousreply 153February 1, 2025 8:37 PM

Why does Michael Landon look like he is from Bangladesh in that pic?

by Anonymousreply 154February 1, 2025 8:56 PM

Michael Landon = Eugene Maurice Orowitz, tiny Jewish bed wetter from Forest Hills.

by Anonymousreply 155February 1, 2025 9:00 PM

R147 I think it was Alison who mentioned in an interview that Landon didn't buy all the rights to the entire series & just wanted to do his own spin from the first couple of books = Albert's debut, Mary's independence, marriage to Adam & Mary's baby.

by Anonymousreply 156February 2, 2025 3:01 AM

R156 Again, Landon didn't buy the rights; Ed Friendly did. He was the original producer and Landon came on later. Eventually, Friendly and Landon fell out and Friendly left as an active on set producer but he still owned it. And, the Friendly family apparently still owns some rights because Ed Friendly's son is part of the new Netflix project.

by Anonymousreply 157February 2, 2025 5:29 AM

R127 the real Laura wasn’t plain

by Anonymousreply 158February 2, 2025 5:37 AM

The real Laura, for a woman of that era, was an attractive woman. Ma had a face that would stop a clock and the rest of the girls weren't far behind.

by Anonymousreply 159February 2, 2025 5:43 AM

Was the real Pa swarthy?

by Anonymousreply 160February 2, 2025 3:14 PM

The real Pa looked like what we used to call a hipster: tall, wiry, unkempt, stringy beard. Probably stunk like a hipster too.

by Anonymousreply 161February 2, 2025 4:31 PM

Pa’s beard smelled like Ma’s pussy.

by Anonymousreply 162February 2, 2025 4:58 PM

My pussy smelled like lemon verbena and freshly churned butter!

by Anonymousreply 163February 2, 2025 5:38 PM

[quote]And, Pa's idiotic perm hairdo and thick layer of makeup.

Pa Ingalls was a dirt poor 19th century pioneer farmer but Michael Landon as Pa Ingalls was a permed, styled, blow-dried and spary-tanned 1970s Southern California guy. He looked like he should've been on his way to a swingers' party in the Hollywood Hills, instead of shoveling pig shit in a barn on the prairie.

by Anonymousreply 164February 2, 2025 6:28 PM

In honor of "The Loneliest Runner, "the autobiographical TV movie Landon did about being a bedwetter (starring Lance Kerwin, Brian Keith, and Melissa Sue Anderson), Pa should be a bedwetter in this version of "Prairie."

These Happy Golden Showers was my favorite after The Long Winter.

by Anonymousreply 167February 2, 2025 11:33 PM

Since they just announced the Buffy reboot, I think they should combine the two into: NELLIE OLESEN: 1880 VAMPIRE SLAYER

by Anonymousreply 168February 3, 2025 11:38 PM

Mary Ingalls could be a blind superhero, like Daredevil, in the urban spinoff WINOKA.

Spare me, I couldn't stand that cornball shit the first time after watching one episode. My late spouse thought that Highway to Hell, oops, Heaven, was the worst shit on tv he ever saw. Michael Landon was hot but his tv shows were not.

by Anonymousreply 172February 7, 2025 2:49 AM

Yes, hotness is so subjective...one man's "oooooh! Michael Landon was hot!" is another man's "Jesus God, I'm gonna puke!""

Barbecued dwarf with a Jewfro.

by Anonymousreply 173February 7, 2025 5:23 AM

Bump

by Anonymousreply 174May 30, 2025 12:16 AM

Well, I’ve lost all hope for a more faithful adaptation of the books.

Apparently, the new show will have a Native American family living somewhere near where the Ingalls’ live.

The black doctor is accurate but he was just around for a very short time.

by Anonymousreply 175May 30, 2025 2:34 AM

I guess the writers aren't aware of Ma's virulent anti-Indian racism.

I would have liked to see the first few episodes cover Little House in the Big Woods as the origin story, then they could cover the trek out west and Pa's building of the house in Kansas, the fever 'n' ague, etc. The whole prairie story.

by Anonymousreply 176May 30, 2025 2:58 AM

The Olesons made the show in the same way Will and Grace were overshadowed by Jack and Karen. Pa was a loser and poor provider. His main assets were hair, bronzed and waxed chest, and fiddle playing’. . Ma should have dumped him for Gil Gerard’s handyman character on that one episode.

by Anonymousreply 177May 30, 2025 11:03 AM

Yeah I always felt pa was a loser. And he cried like a bitch.

by Anonymousreply 178May 30, 2025 2:06 PM

Well, looking back on the whole, real saga, it does turn out that Pa was a significant failure at many things he did. He wasn’t a good farmer (Mother Nature had a big part to play of course) but it seemed they weee always struggling to get by.

They should have never left Wisconsin.

It really does take a village, especially in those early days of frontier life. He couldn’t do it all. Three little girls couldn’t cut it.

Not to kick a man while he’s down but he couldn’t even produce boys. 🫤

by Anonymousreply 179May 30, 2025 7:08 PM

Didn’t they move so many times because of pa being irrational?

by Anonymousreply 180May 30, 2025 10:59 PM

They originally moved away from Wisconsin, their cozy house, and Caroline's (I believe) extended family, because Charles started hearing other peoples' guns in the Big Woods from a distance. He thought that was too close for the rugged, isolated life he wanted.

by Anonymousreply 181May 30, 2025 11:41 PM

I think Anya Taylor-Joy should play Nellie Oleson

by Anonymousreply 182May 31, 2025 12:07 AM

Same r184. Nellie was the best part of the entire show.

by Anonymousreply 185May 31, 2025 3:44 AM

My favorite book out there that examines the family within their historical context is ‘Prairie Fires: The Life and Times of Laura Ingalls Wilder’ by Caroline Fraser. It also delves into the life of Laura’s daughter Rose, and there’s a lot of Libertarian leanings shared by the entire family. If I recall, Pa moved his family at least nine times after the Big Woods in Pepin, Wisconsin (in the gorgeous Driftless unglaciated region) before ended up in God-forsaken DeSmet, South Dakota where most of the family is now buried. He really was a loser and did many unscrupulous things including making false land claims, trying to illegally settle in Indian lands, and running off in the middle of the night to escape debts when living in Iowa. Laura and Almonzo continued the trek experience moving around before settling in a racist Sundown town in Missouri. They even made a brief weird move to the panhandle of Florida. There were many scammy development schemes back then to advertise people to move to shit places. This family seemed to be easily conned to up roots and move constantly. They’d all certainly be hardcore MAGA today based on their political and social beliefs. All the media portrayals sugarcoat the hard edges and bleakness and awkward social mores. Even Laura’s original books are toned down versus the likely reality.

by Anonymousreply 186May 31, 2025 10:23 AM

Well, it seems the sugar-coating will continue, R186.

It’s gonna be some rainbow-connection propaganda shit show.

I actually asked a great-great nephew or something of Laura that has an insta account if he could tell me if the new series was gonna be more loyal to the books but he just liked my comment. 🫤
