CNN Anchor Jim Acosta Announces He's Exiting The Network

"I've decided to move on," the journalist told viewers.

“You may have seen some reports about me and this show, and after giving all of this some careful consideration and weighing an alternative time slot CNN offered me, I’ve decided to move on,” he said

“Don’t give in to the fear. Hold on to the truth — and to hope,” he added.

Acosta said he’ll share more about his plans “in the coming days.”

Acosta was reportedly offered to move from his 10 a.m. Eastern time slot to the midnight to 2 a.m. shift amid a wider shake-up of CNN’s broadcasting schedule and a restructure of its overall operations, which last week saw the announcement of around 200 layoffs as the business pivots to boost its digital offering.

Acosta is CNN's best. Sorry to see him go. I would love to see him on MSNBC.

by Anonymousreply 2January 28, 2025 5:48 PM

He is going to Fox News

by Anonymousreply 3January 28, 2025 5:48 PM

Good riddance! He thought his take was the news! I think that's why he sparred so much with Trump - they both have huge egos.

by Anonymousreply 4January 28, 2025 5:49 PM

R4 = Pete Hegseth

by Anonymousreply 5January 28, 2025 5:52 PM

Sorry to see him go. He's smart and sharp.

Really irritating he was pushed out to appease the asshole trump.

Hopefully, other, less sniveling networks will give him his due.

by Anonymousreply 6January 28, 2025 5:53 PM

He may have been the last true journalist on CNN.

by Anonymousreply 7January 28, 2025 5:59 PM

I'm ready to take up the mantle of the network's "hot one."

by Anonymousreply 8January 28, 2025 6:04 PM

A great journalistic loss to the American public.

I hope Acosta emerges even stronger.

by Anonymousreply 9January 28, 2025 6:30 PM

If MSNBC is smart, they'll go in the direction of being the Trump-resistance network, (more so than ever), and hire Acosta. They would be the only Cable news network to do so and would practically become Fox's sole competition. Adding Pro-Trump people will only siphon off more of their own viewers, (who haven't already left), and nobody who didn't previously watch MSNBC is gonna start now.

I think it's the only way they can raise their ratings and survive, maybe even thrive.

They should make a statement. Hire Acosta and give him Rachel Maddow's slot when she's finished her current stint.

by Anonymousreply 10January 28, 2025 6:57 PM

We know.

by Anonymousreply 11January 28, 2025 7:01 PM

R10, being anti-Trump is what they’ve always been and it sunk them.

by Anonymousreply 12January 28, 2025 7:02 PM

Not so fast, R8

by Anonymousreply 13January 28, 2025 7:20 PM

[quote] [R10], being anti-Trump is what they’ve always been and it sunk them.

There's our resident "concern troll" fearful that if the MAGATS are mocked and derided we won't be allowed to have democracy.. Oh the irony. ....

again, r12 90 million sat this one out, if MAGATS want to win another election they'll have to send them all to the camps because once the Orange Dotard has made their lives worse, they will find the motivation to vote him out on his ass and hopefully an orange jump suit

by Anonymousreply 14January 28, 2025 7:26 PM

The next 4 years could be a yuge anti-Trump ratings bonanza. People are salivating to see him failing and humiliated on a daily basis.

by Anonymousreply 15January 28, 2025 8:12 PM

Actually, R10, since Alex Wagner is likely to get that spot back (at least that’s what they’re saying right now), I would much rather see Acosta get Ari Melber’s time slot. I’m sorry but I just can’t take Ari seriously plus he never seems like he cares all that much about talking about politics anyway. I’m not saying I want to see Ari lose his job, just that I think he’d be much better suited to a slot on the weekends.

by Anonymousreply 16January 28, 2025 10:34 PM

Acosta should get Rachel Maddow's timeslot.

OR

Get rid of MSNBC's Jen Psaki (she adds very little to the lineup) and give Acosta the Psaki/Sunday morning show so that Acosta can be in the Sunday mix with CBS' Face The Nation and CNN's State of the Union.

And yes, MSNBC should go full resistance to Trump. Do not become "both sides" and Trump light.

by Anonymousreply 17January 28, 2025 11:41 PM

These outspoken journalists who get exiled should make their own network and scare these people shitless.

by Anonymousreply 18January 28, 2025 11:46 PM

Jim Acosta's parting words: "It is never a good time to bow down to a tyrant."

Oh, and FUCK YOU CNN!!!!!

Cowardly News Network!

CNN doesn't want it's employees to say anything bad about Trump. I'd quit, too.

by Anonymousreply 20January 29, 2025 12:35 AM

CUNT NEWS NETWORK.

by Anonymousreply 21January 29, 2025 12:35 AM

Is he a dirty gay? Did you know they put their tongues in each other’s anuses for fun? That’s where they make doo doo!

Disgusting! Nasty!

by Anonymousreply 22January 29, 2025 12:37 AM

When Trump won, CNN and MSNBC had no one to bash. Lost 60% of viewers. Comcast is looking for anyone to buy MSNBC and CNN is trying to figure out what to do. An Anti-Trump Bandwagon won't bring back viewers.

by Anonymousreply 23January 29, 2025 12:45 AM

Oh God, he just had to make a speech because his voice is so important. Give me a break. Just report the news and quit thinking that you're so all important.

by Anonymousreply 24January 29, 2025 12:52 AM

How very dare you, R24

by Anonymousreply 25January 29, 2025 12:56 AM

Does that opinion you just pulled out of your prolapsed hole apply to the Faux News "reporters'" R24? You know Faux News, the network that lost a 3/4 billion dollar lawsuit against it for deliberately spreading false information.

by Anonymousreply 26January 29, 2025 1:01 AM

R13 Boris Johnson ? Seriously ? Boris Johnson ?

You can have him, and I'll take Boris Sanchez.

Acosta seems to be one of the few good guys who is still speaking out. I kind of wish he would have stayed at CNN.

Even with his regular timeslot, he was probably limited in the stories he was allowed to report and information he could give us. With the midnight slot, the execs might have paid less attention and he might have had more freedom to report stories other CNN shows and MSM outlets refused to report: election interference, for example.

Also, the Trump administration seems to deliberately be doing the worst activities at the end of the day when less are paying attention. Acosta could have gotten plenty of scoops. Anyone not willing to stay up late could just watch his show first thing in the morning.

Oh well. I hope he keeps reporting even if its from his own basement.

by Anonymousreply 29January 29, 2025 6:56 PM

You may be right r29. In this world of youtube and clips, it simply matters less what your actual ratings are and what your timeslot is. Even if very few people see you at midnight, a lot of people can wind up seeing you the next day.

Of course, that makes being at CNN less vital than it used to be. In some ways it's a terrible news environment right now, and yeah Trump does want fascist control of all news outlets, but in other ways it's really easy to reach many more people through other means.

by Anonymousreply 30January 29, 2025 7:15 PM

[quote]Also, the Trump administration seems to deliberately be doing the worst activities at the end of the day when less are paying attention. Acosta could have gotten plenty of scoops. Anyone not willing to stay up late could just watch his show first thing in the morning.

Good point. But with Jim Acosta's stature, capability and talent, I'm sure it was too much of a blow to his ego, and very insulting to have an experienced veteran like Acosta on at midnight. Acosta would not be able to live with himself and see his talents wasted or given the impression of being tossed aside.

I still wish MSNBC would hire him. Acosta is a standout. CNN's loss and stupid decision should be MSNBC's gain. CNN and MSNBC are never going to have Fox News viewership (as we have seen, there are far too many stupid bigoted people in this country). But there has got be--at least I hope--speaking truth to power and a more honest point of view should be on the air. Good luck to Acosta wherever he lands.

I really want to believe Acosta has that much integrity! (No "But" here). I will believe it... until or unless some development throws doubt - like if he takes a job at Fox or Newsmax, (they'd never hire him anyway).

That being said, I wonder if he really hated being on CNN near the end, and was kind of grateful they gave him the midnight shift because it gave him the great excuse to quit.

Wondering if former colleague Don Lemon will try to get an interview, or Chris Cuomo on NewsNation.

Please post if anybody sees anything.

Chris Jansing on MSNBC should give up one of her two morning hours to Jim-she’s almost 70! Andrea Mitchell is leaving in a few months so there’s lots of opening but most important-Jim needs to keep his weight down. He’s not as sexy with a puffy face.

Moving Kasey Hunt from morning to afternoon. I really enjoy her first thing in the morning.. I like her loud braying voice

[quote] Jim Acosta ‘thanks’ Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld for mocking his new show: ‘You’re as bad as Hannity’

Former CNN anchor Jim Acosta fired back at Greg Gutfeld on Thursday, sarcastically thanking him for the “plug” of his new Substack show after the Fox News star repeatedly ridiculed Acosta in a lengthy on-air segment on Wednesday night.

“Hey thanks for the plug @Gutfeldfox on your program,” Acosta tweeted before comparing Fox News’ resident “comedian” to primetime host and Trump confidant Sean Hannity while suggesting Gutfeld is unable to criticize President Donald Trump or DOGE chief Elon Musk.

“You’re as bad as Hannity,” he added. “Don’t you guys have anything else to cover? That’s right. You can’t say anything critical of Trump or Musk! Sad! Hear my response later today on the show.”

During his Fox News program the night before, Gutfeld mockingly covered the first few broadcasts of Acosta’s online show, explicitly taking aim at the low-budget feel and technical mishaps that the former CNN host has encountered in his early interviews.

“I think this show is sponsored by Windows 97,” Gutfeld snarked before joking about Acosta saying that his show is “real and unvarnished” and thus gives him the opportunity to “bro out” with his guests.

“Bro out, yes. I can’t wait to see him and Tim Walz bobbing for tampons,” the right-wing host quipped, referencing Trump supporters’ relentless culture war attacks on the Minnesota governor.

Scoffing at Acosta for exhibiting “self-righteous power,” Gutfeld aired a clip of the veteran journalist — and longtime target of Trump and his allies — stating that it is “incumbent on us…to insist on the truth” while referencing the number of subscribers who have left him comments to that effect.

“All the people watching and all the people leaving comments! What, three people?! You, and maybe two members of your family?! I hate to tell you, Jim, the only people watching are people like me who need content to make fun of you, and even this is a stretch because this is not even good bad — it is boring bad,” the Fox host sneered.

“And all those other measurable hacks in the media thinking this is a path to success beyond cable, hate to break it to you. Just because you have a name does not mean you have a following,” Gutfeld, who regularly features podcasters and Substackers on his show, added. “Nobody said, ‘Hurry up honey, Jim Acosta is on!’”

While Gutfeld spent roughly eight minutes on Wednesday night heaping scorn on Acosta for supposedly not having an audience after departing CNN last week, the former White House correspondent had already accumulated 116,000 subscribers just a few days after leaving his network anchor job. Additionally, each of Acosta’s last two broadcasts have racked up hundreds of comments.
