In case you live under a rock:
Timothée Chalamet is host as well as musical guest.
I should think Kate McKinnon would be a safe bet to play Bishop Mariann Budde.

Hey Timaaay, here’s a tip. The Oscar’s either going to Adrian or Colman. You have no chance.

He's the "musical guest"? Meaning he's going to sing Bob Dylan songs like he does in the movie? And people are supposed to be content with that, instead of having a real musical guest? (Granted that what SNL think is a musical guest these days is usually a talentless pop music hack.)

[quote] 'The Fart skit' - why was everyone in the skit reading off the cue cards ?
This has been getting worse over time. I think there are a few reasons. First, new generations of performers who don’t have strong backgrounds in theater and improv, or performing in front of live audiences. They’ve honed their comedic skills on video instead, which can be constantly re-shot and edited. The other problem is Lorne’s notorious control issues; the cast is petrified of going off-script.
by Anonymous | reply 97 | January 26, 2025 7:20 PM |
Ok, I just watched last nights show and I gotta say that this was one of those rare shows where the host elevated the crappy material.
I was not a TC fan before, haven't seen one of his movies, but he had such total buy-in on the material that I was totally entertained by him. The shitty coffee house skit was elevated to the absurd even before Keenan crapped on it. And even Fart-Faced Grandma had his special touch even though you can tell he was getting tired being 100% for 90 mins.
I really liked how his musical segments had him in the shadows, so Dylan's words could speak for themselves. It was truly a master touch of humility for such a young actor.
I thout the summation of his performances was brilliant. Not British brilliant but American brilliant of scintilating. He was a pleasure to watch even as the SNL players were flailing arouind him. Dog park come to mind.
Even the monolouge was perfectly self depricating. He has likability. This T C guy.

by Anonymous | reply 111 | January 26, 2025 9:16 PM |
From Showbiz 411
Bob Dylan and Sony Music Publishing must be in shock today.
“Tomorrow is a Long Time,” written and first recorded by Dylan in 1963, hit the iTunes top 100 chart today. It was never a single, or even a well known deep cut.
Last night Timothee Chalamet performed the 62 year old song on “Saturday Night Live.” It was his second performance of the night, and part of his guest host/musical guest stint in his Oscar campaign for “A Complete Unknown.”
It’s hard to imagine that Chalamet won’t get the Oscar now. His two songs — the other was a wild version of “Outlaw Blues” and “Three Angels” — were brilliantly produced. His comedy sketches weren’t bad, either.
"A Complete Unknown” is quietly taking the inside track for the Oscars, with three acting nominations (Chalamet, Edward Norton, Monica Barbaro) as well as Best Picture and Best Director (James Mangold). With $62 million banked domestically, the Dylan movie has made much more than all of its direct competitors including “Anora,” “The Brutalist,” “A Real Pain,” and “Conclave.”Online movie streaming services
Ironically, Chalamet lampooned his own Oscar aspirations last night during his monologue, playing clips of him losing at various awards shows in the past. It’s funny that at 28 he’s found that “Tomorrow is a Long Time.” It’s been incredibly short, intense run for this young actor.

If you want a perfect example of how insufferable Bowen Yang is, look no further than this quote he gave GQ. All other cast members gave pithy, straightforward answers. His of course sounds like a freshman SNL studies course. But as is typical of such types, he’s way wrong. Roseanne Roseannadana wasn’t even Gilda’s first recurring character (Emily Litella came years before) and there were many more recurring character before that (the Bees appeared on show one and throughout the first season. Belushi’s samurai was in many first season episodes, etc).
Anyway, the quote: “The one that set the model for all the future success of the show was probably Gilda Radner. She technically had the first recurring character, with Roseanne Roseannadanna. She had the first catchphrase with, “It’s always something.” She came on and just set the blueprint. She literally is the blueprint for the show being successful, for individual people coming in and making the show successful, and having that translate across different eras of politics and culture and also comedy. It’s still the working document, you know what I mean? And there’s the tragedy there too—there’s every part of human life.”
