Do blacks even like him? He seems to have been created by white Millennials anxious to appear "Woke".

R1, Those in the stand up world certainly do, and consider him the GOAT of comedy, but his audience has always been predominately white men, it seems.

R2, white men who hate trannies and who still need Nigger Lessons. Got it.

Btw, R1, the only thing Dave has in common with “woke” millennials is his stance on Palestinians vs. Zionists. His views on feminism, abortion, and LGBT issues skews conservative.

Dave Chappelle is a white guy from rural Ohio.
For about one year in his twenties, he was “edgy.”
He then lost the plot and has been an unfunny, conservative hack ever since.

Chappelle actually BOUGHT UP property in Yellow Springs. Property owners aren't thrilled their taxes are going up because Mr Big Shot is "saving" the town and they need new schools and infrastructure. He isn't the "hero" he claims to be. Springfield is a paradise compared to Yellow Springs.

20 years ago, I loved Dave Chappelle. His comedy was one of the great joys of being a young person living in DC.
Now, I have to boycott SNL (which I normally watch, albeit desultorily) to avoid him.

I’m black and I like Dave Chappelle. I love how you never exactly know where the punchline is coming from, sometimes way out of left field, and it hits you and it’s hysterical.
I remember one time he was talking about the Black Civil Righrs movement and its genesis. He was talking about all the great leaders from the 60s up through the 2000s. It was a moving seven minutes. Then he says “and in all that time Cosby was raping women - puttin’ up real numbers.” You’re like wha??? But it’s true. It drove home how horrific what Cosby did was.

R1 Bruh Chapelle is absolutely adored in the black community. He is not just a funny stand up comedian, he is an intellectual helping us to digest this mad world in an entertaining way. That’s not my opinion that is just the facts. He’s our George Carlin.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 19, 2025 2:53 PM |
R2 I wouldn’t say majority white men but he is a crossover comedian so just like Eddie Murphy or a crossover r&b singer there will be more white people in that audience. He can also play in cities across America that don't have sizeable AA populations. Most black comedians are limited to the eastern seaboard and SoCal.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 19, 2025 2:55 PM |
He wasn’t even in the police artist sketch which was kind of odd.

by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 19, 2025 3:51 PM |
Yeah R1, I have to agree with R55, black people absolutely adore Dave Chappelle. I know I do. I find him very funny and if you take a look around, one of the few comedians actually producing work in this very dangerous cancel culture. And let’s just point out, the majority of things people were getting cancelled for were coming from the left, not the right. So when that’s what you’re constantly battling,, a group of people trying to destroy your livelihood over what you have to say - then obviously you are going to turn your jokes on them - if that’s your super power.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 19, 2025 3:52 PM |

Chappelle can say whatever he wants to say. I don’t have any interest in canceling comedians.
He just isn’t funny..
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 19, 2025 4:14 PM |
He just isn't funny to you, R61. I would phrase it that way. He's one of the most famous comedians of the 21st century - so saying he isn't funny is a bit performative. He isn't funny to you - which in this day and age is a trait. It's like how someone saying Taylor Swift is a musical genius tells you all you need to know about the person.

R53, he looked taken aback when the Luigi Mangione joke didn't land. He had to stop and explain to the audience who he was. We know who he is, the joke just wasn't funny. Maybe he should learn the difference between Life & Health insurance vs Property & casualty.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 19, 2025 5:01 PM |
R64, I'm tired of trying to figure what the hell Marcello is saying when he lays on that thick accent. He could have been doing pantomime and made more sense.

[quote] The only thing I remember is watching his crotch, pretty sure he is freeballing. I have never understood his humor and popularity.
I could not take my eyes off his crotch the whole time he was sitting on the stool adjusting himself. He's definitely packing a nice sized sausage in there - damn ! And his balls looked nicely round. I can't remember one joke he told because my eyes never left his dick.
I'm so glad GLORilla was the musical guest. She brought class and elegance to the show. Who the hell books this 'musical talent' each week ?
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 19, 2025 5:24 PM |
R59 What the hell are you talking about?
[quote]one of the few comedians actually producing work in this very dangerous cancel culture.
Comedians (Bill Burr and thousands of comics) produce "content" ad nauseum. Many of "bro culture" critiques of "cancel culture"... there so many more attacks on "cancel culture" than and voices from said culture. I am exhausted with this grievance crap.
I have not been a fan of Chapelle.... I liked him on cable before he disappeared to "find himself"... I've found he tedious and not funny with his turgid "anti-woke" expected bullshit. His anti-trans stuff is just cheap shots and, again, NOT funny. But the end of the opening monologue last night moved me. His description of Carter's courage was a reminder to Americans of the possibility of working from our "higher selves"... his wishing good luck to Trump, attached to a reminder that refugees from both Pacific Palisades and Palestine deserved compassion. I am ok with a cultural icon with great support among MAGA/Bro culture world to suggest we remember to have compassion.

R54 That’s interesting because Josh Johnson reminds me more of Carlin, because he takes shots at the rich and powerful while Dave seems to acquiesce to them, being one himself now. Imagine George Carlin bragging about being buddies with Elon Musk and bringing him on stage like a trophy. 😂

R 54 has a point. I personally haven’t cared much for him since his brilliant TV show. It mostly is the transphobia with me, which I believe comes from some of his own internalized personal shit, as it does for the DL transphobes. Just saying. 💅🏼

by Anonymous | reply 80 | January 19, 2025 7:00 PM |
Dave Chappelle has spelled out his beef with the Trans Community several times. It's not internalized, it's actually well documented in his standup comedy. In the beginning he had a joke that wasn't even transphobic and the Trans Community was feeling extra zesty at this particular point in time, coming after every single person over mirco-agressions, and they tried to derail his career over it. Ever since then it has grown and grown, and he puts it all into his comedy. And it has become more pointed. Actually one of his friends was a trans women who ended up committing suicide (possibly because the Trans Community dragged her for days on twitter of her defense of him). The story, told by him, is actually pretty poignant and worth a listen and proof as to why DC is an amazing comic.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | January 19, 2025 7:14 PM |
R81 There has got to be more to that, because MANY comedians get stalked by their haters, yet they don’t become obsessed with being victimized, and don’t continually use their “victimization” to gain sympathy. Dave has a BIG axe to grind, not only for the trans, but for gay people as well. He’s terrified over the emasculation of Black men. Honestly, I think it’s a valid fear because of American history, along with the grooming of Black men in Hollywood who are often pressured by white male directors and producers to put on women’s drag, as Katt Williams has pointed out.
I’d guess either Dave was victimized as a young man, or was put in a compromising position and then blackmailed (perhaps by Musk or some other powerful person), which is why he won’t go after certain public figures in his routines.
His past friendship with a trans woman is also odd, especially because most straight men don’t hang out with T-girls. Maybe there was more to that relationship and, being Muslim, he started doubling down on trans people to distance himself from them out of concern for his own safety and well-being, ironically. If you connect the dots between the L.A. fires, the word “sodomites,” West Hollywood, and P. Diddy’s parties in his monologue, it paints a very clear picture.

There are all different kinds of comedians R99. You just can't handle the ones that deal with social commentary like Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Paul Mooney and Dave Chappelle. It's not your cup of tea because they go into deep dark places and make people think. You should stick with the Jim Gaffigans of the world.
