Fuck Windows 11

Microsoft said that if we moved to Win10 they would update us forever. Then they instituted the mandated move to Win11 because of security hardware requirements?

Why isn't there a hardware filter I can buy to put between my IPS and my computer? Will I have to buy a new computer for every new iteration of Windows? Keeping 10 until I get hacked and frozen.

by Anonymousreply 57June 2, 2025 8:53 PM

I had to buy a new laptop and windows 11 was already installed. If it's not the death of me, I will be shocked.

by Anonymousreply 1May 30, 2025 7:46 PM

There is a link to install Windows 10 over top of your Windows 11.

Sorry I don't remember the link, but it works great for me.

Seek and ye shall find.

by Anonymousreply 2May 30, 2025 8:33 PM

Windows is insufferable and has been for this century.

by Anonymousreply 3May 30, 2025 9:12 PM

I know I need to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11, but I've been putting it off. I'll probably get to it during June.

by Anonymousreply 4May 30, 2025 9:48 PM

I don't understand the fuss. 11 is far superior over 10. Sure, there are some kinks, some things I don't care for. But overall it's much better. I would not want to go back to 10.

by Anonymousreply 5May 30, 2025 9:56 PM

11 is ugly and stupid and obviously the result of ai. i loved windows 10. LOVED. I didn't understand the complaints about 10, loved the features and the look.

by Anonymousreply 6May 30, 2025 11:37 PM

I bought an other computer to replace my Win10 computer that was not hardware upgradable to Win 11.

Eventually it will be converted to Linux Mint and run my independent security cameras.

OP

by Anonymousreply 7May 30, 2025 11:53 PM

who are you people? who uses windows?

by Anonymousreply 8May 30, 2025 11:55 PM

I can't use Mac anymore because their screens cause me eye strain.

by Anonymousreply 9May 30, 2025 11:56 PM

[quote] who uses windows?

That would be 1.6 billion people.

by Anonymousreply 10May 31, 2025 12:03 AM

The upgrade is free to Win 11.

I fought it for a long time, mostly because I wanted to wait until they'd worked out the major kinks and bugs.

It's fine. It's relatively easy to setup so that the upgrade is almost transparent.

There are so many other things to get hot and bothered by that spending time on this is a waste of good DLer OUTRAGE.

by Anonymousreply 11May 31, 2025 12:04 AM

11 is rotten

by Anonymousreply 12May 31, 2025 12:20 AM

get a Mac

by Anonymousreply 13May 31, 2025 12:20 AM

I know that many in the online PC and tech hardware community have decried MSFT’s heavy-handedness regarding the transition from 10 to 11.

Related to that, if anyone would like tips on debloating Windows 11 and all of the needless crap (and spyware telemetry) that MSFT stuffs into their OS, I can provide some tips and resources. I run an extremely debloated version of Windows 11 which is essentially “hacked” (for lack of a better term) in the installation process, preventing all of those extras from installing in the first place. It makes Windows 11 less a bloated, telemetry monitoring mess and more like an updated, modern version of Windows XP - if XP kept on going into Service Pack 20 in a hypothetical world.

by Anonymousreply 14May 31, 2025 12:20 AM

I had to replace my decade-old win 10 machine and so far I'm pretty happy with the Dell laptop I bought. It came with 11 preloaded so no opportunity to prevent bloatware; what would you recommend R14 (other than completely disabling the screenshot thing - the one "feature" I made sure was not running on my machine)? I also relented and bought McAfee virus and general protection mostly because half the reason my old PC had to be replaced was thanks to AVG slowing it to a crawl with the constant scans, "optimizations", et, al.

Funny, I used to be really on top of all of this, but gave it up when I bought my first Chromebook. Oh how I wish I didn't need the Windows-only software presently; I love my Chromebooks.

by Anonymousreply 15May 31, 2025 12:42 AM

XP was the best!

by Anonymousreply 16May 31, 2025 1:20 AM

I was able to use a workaround today to force-install Windows 11 on a computer that doesn't meet Microsoft's requirements for Win 11.

by Anonymousreply 17May 31, 2025 1:30 AM

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. But noooooooo we can't have that.

by Anonymousreply 18May 31, 2025 1:32 AM

Loved Windows 10 and swore I wouldn't upgrade. But then my computer broke down and I just couldn't bring myself to install it on a brand new one. I don't mind it at all so far, except that you need to dig deeper for some settings for no discernible UI reason. And it finally has a centred Start button, something I wanted since I was a kid using '95.

r8 Pretty much everyone in Europe. Schools, hospitals, governments, businesses, you name it. Apple is for Americans, graphic designers, and label whores signalling their status. Microsoft offers by far the best customer support – especially for corporate clients – when you need predictability, stability, longevity, flexibility... Kinda sad to see a response like yours though, shows just how far they have their hooks in you. Well done to their marketing team, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 19May 31, 2025 3:37 AM

My W10 laptop keeps incessantly pinging me to click on its v.11 upgrade option, only then after several minutes telling me each time that my laptop doesn’t have the needed capabilities at this time to upgrade to 11. 😡 Holding off fir now, anyway, because I dread the resetting of favorites and email account settings, among other features, that I’ve always encountered inevitably when attempting such system upgrades.

by Anonymousreply 20May 31, 2025 4:26 AM

The aggregate amount of money lost by businesses worldwide because of Windows updates probably runs in the billions of dollars for software, hardware, and delays in employee productivity.

Even with Windows 11, when you drill down into certain settings, you get to the same text boxes that were present in Windows 95. Windows Networking still looks almost entirely like Windows 95 to me.

An appreciable part of Windows version updates has been windows dressing (pun intended). Settings are moved around like furniture. More and more layers of graphical user interface are piled on top of, or replace the text boxes that were focussed on system settings rather than on visual layout and beauty. The first thing I do when I’m finally forced to upgrade to a new version of Windows is search for third-party software that puts the interface back to the previous version!

by Anonymousreply 21May 31, 2025 5:28 AM

do not upgrade to 11 if you have the option. it is rotten ai junk.

by Anonymousreply 22May 31, 2025 8:46 AM

Microsoft will not support Windows 10 after Oct 2025, so you’ll have to upgrade to 11 in four months..

by Anonymousreply 23May 31, 2025 11:20 AM

Is Apple different? Do they let you keep an outdated OS if you don't want to update?

by Anonymousreply 24May 31, 2025 12:27 PM

R17 what’d you do?

by Anonymousreply 25May 31, 2025 12:53 PM

[quote]Is Apple different? Do they let you keep an outdated OS if you don't want to update?

I have a MacBook with MacOS and a Google Chromebook with Chrome OS, and don't use anything of Windows anything. For both of the laptops, updates are done automatically...either when the laptop is in operation on on start up for more complex changes. Complex updates are very infrequent, take less than a minute, and the only way you would take notice is because a message appears for part of those few seconds.

There's no warning that tech support for version 37 will end 12 months after the introduction of version 38. There's nothing that you have to actively do (you could turn off auto-updates, but why? There's no group of millions griping that they have to learn an old thing in a new way, the burden is on the operating system to take care of itself without needing any interaction with the user. Nobody has to take a 3 day seminar on changes to editing, spreadsheets, and other common tasks.

by Anonymousreply 26May 31, 2025 1:54 PM

r25 I used this solution. Unfortunately you have to pay for the software ($30 for one computer; $40 for three) to make it work.

There are other free options involving editing the registry (ZDNet has a good article) but this one seemed easier to use and other people had reported good results.

[quote] Nobody has to take a 3 day seminar on changes to editing, spreadsheets, and other common tasks.

Thanks, r26. So it's not that Apple's OS don't get frequent updates but gets them in a more subtle way? Maybe that's the lesson, MS needs to learn again. When Windows 10 was the latest, they did continuous updates without people much caring. However, if the OS is doing things behind the scenes without bothering the user, it's doing things in the dark. The user loses control if they let things just happen. And some don't like that either. I suppose you cannot have it both, keep control and not be bothered.

by Anonymousreply 28May 31, 2025 2:22 PM

r20, MS is forcing people to learn Linux.

After going through all the flavors of Linux, I am migrating my

HP EliteDesk 800G1 Desktop Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz that does not meet Win 11 hardware requirements

to Linux Mint.

by Anonymousreply 29May 31, 2025 2:23 PM

Didn't they at one time promise that Windows 10 would be the final version, and that all future updates would just be modifications to Windows 10?

by Anonymousreply 30May 31, 2025 2:24 PM

r30, therein lies the fucking rub.

by Anonymousreply 31May 31, 2025 2:26 PM

Not sure what you are complaining about? You don't like how it looks? there are about 20 different programs to make it look just like windows 10. Don't like enhanced security? Don't update but don't cry to us when your PC gets hacked. Oh I will go to a mac? They update as well and the newer OS is not compatible with older hardware either. Macs are not hardware upgradeable as well, meaning you want a M5 chip when it comes out? Sorry have to buy a new mac. I am willing to bet all you marys complaining about windows 11 are first in line to get he new phones when they come out every six months.

by Anonymousreply 32May 31, 2025 2:35 PM

All of us MARY!s are complaining about the mandated update to an O that obsoletes out HARDWARE.

As I said initially, I wonder why there is no security module, a mother-board daughter-board, that cannot be attached between my Internet Provider and my Desktop to provide the required Win11 security.

Why did they shitcan my HP EliteDesk 800G1 Desktop Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz that does not meet Win 11 hardware requirements.

I bought a new Dell OptiPlex 7010 Micro Desktop 1TB SSD 64GB RAM Extreme Win 11 Pro (Intel 14th Generation Core i9-14900K Processor with Turbo Boost to 6.00GHz) PC Business Computer.

I will be repurposing my i7 computer to my in home security net and eventually run it on Linux Mint.

If Windos EVER does another hardware update incompatibi;ity, I will be fully versed in Linux when it happens.

by Anonymousreply 33May 31, 2025 3:59 PM

"to an O" = operating platform = OP = Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome OS, and Android.

I have a sticky P

by Anonymousreply 34May 31, 2025 4:04 PM

Sticky pee is never good.

by Anonymousreply 35May 31, 2025 4:05 PM

[quote] Didn't they at one time promise that Windows 10 would be the final version, and that all future updates would just be modifications to Windows 10?

"They" claim that "they" never promised it but that it was just a statement of one unauthorized individual. But even if they had continued calling the OS Windows 10, did anybody truly believe that it would have stayed in its iteration of 2015 and never would have been further developed and never would have gotten any major upgrades?

by Anonymousreply 36May 31, 2025 6:13 PM

You do know they released a version for hardware that does not meet requirements riight? Also you can stay on windows 10 they only stopped security updates this year. You are angry because they don't support your 12 year old hardware? Try getting support for a 12 year old mac,

by Anonymousreply 37May 31, 2025 6:46 PM

First I've heard of it. Link, please?

[Quote] Fuck Windows 11

by Anonymousreply 39May 31, 2025 6:57 PM

R25 - I have only used Mac since 1989. Currently Apple releases a new OS every year, and no you do not have to update your computer if you don’t care to - I generally wait six months or longer, and have skipped some OS releases altogether.

There is also an auto-update feature that will automatically download various small security or included Apple software (Safari browser, Mail, Pages) updates and you can set your machine to auto install them or prompt you to do it.

I also have one 2008 Mac that can’t run the current OS - it still works just fine with the the pre 2020 OS that it tapped out at (albeit more slowly than a new machine) I also don’t use much third party software - I’m fine with the Apple browser, mail, music, photo, word processing and spread sheet programs that come bundled with the OS - so the older versions of those continue to work fine on my old machine as well.

by Anonymousreply 40May 31, 2025 7:04 PM

r38 here you go. r40 you don't have to get new hardware to run windows 10, xp or Windows ME. I don't believe you can run the new mac OS on non Mx chips as it is not x86 compatible. The difference being Mac is a eco system. If you want an M4 chip you have to buy a whole new mac vs if you want a new CPU you can upgrade your CPU on windows to the latest supported by your motherboard. You can add memory, drive etc to laptops to increase usage. With a Mac you buy what you buy. No memory increases, drive increases are very hard or not at all. Both have thier pros and cons

R42, for Win 11.

Can r41 READ.?

by Anonymousreply 43June 1, 2025 6:46 PM

There are those too who suffer from Windows 10 dysmorphia and we pray for their peace and prosperity as they stay the fuck away from us.

by Anonymousreply 44June 1, 2025 6:56 PM

It's astonishing how some here get all worked up over a software product. It's not artwork. It's an appliance.

by Anonymousreply 45June 1, 2025 8:01 PM

Sorry, but I find most everything about W11 far superior to W10.

The Poors?

by Anonymousreply 47June 1, 2025 8:17 PM

r46, you are missing the point of the forced move and the inability to do so from MS obsoleted HARDWARE.

The whole angst is not the typical old Windows upgrade, but an upgrade that requires the purchase of a new computer.

by Anonymousreply 48June 2, 2025 1:24 AM

MS make your hardware obsolete, time did. Lacking a TPM - trusted platfrom module in your CPU is the main reason.

by Anonymousreply 49June 2, 2025 1:36 AM

Perhaps you need a visual

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 50June 2, 2025 1:41 AM

My bone is that you couldn't just add a TPM module to your system.

Linux didn't obsolete their users systems with a hardware requirement.

I do not need a visual, I am living with a great computer that cannot upgrade to Win 11.

Any whoo, as I have stated, I have a new i9 desktop that came with Win 11. I will keep it Win compatable until they do another hardware obsolescence. By then I should be Linux savvy.

As of April 2025, approximately 54% of PCs worldwide were still running Windows 10. This makes it the most popular Windows desktop operating system. Although Windows 11 is gaining popularity, Windows 10 still has a significant user base.

MS has gone out of its way to fuck itself. Linux is going out of its way to be accommodating to those who want to leave the MS crazy. What next to take for granted? MS will only run on $1000 MS security mice?

Fuck 'em.

by Anonymousreply 51June 2, 2025 1:41 PM

I am drawing an analogy to car models. You can refresh existing models indefinitely. But at some point their technology is doomed to become outdated beyond fix because even refreshs cannot compensate for structural improvements in the chassis. Standards change even in the core of the products. At that time a fully new model is needed.

An option could be a split into two versions. One economy model for the low and old hardware requirements and one version for the mid- and high-end. But eventually this would mean two separate operating systems that would need to be managed and maintained. And who is to say that you wouldn't need a third version at some point to support 20 or 30 year old hardware? I don't think that's a reasonable expectation.

by Anonymousreply 52June 2, 2025 4:31 PM

And a reasonable expectation to move to open-source Linux.

Microsoft has failed 53% of its users.

by Anonymousreply 53June 2, 2025 7:01 PM

[quote] Why isn't there a hardware filter I can buy to put between my IPS and my computer?

What does this mean?

by Anonymousreply 54June 2, 2025 7:03 PM

[quote] And a reasonable expectation to move to open-source Linux. Microsoft has failed 53% of its users.

I doubt that those 53% who are still using Win10 are willing or able to move to Linux.

by Anonymousreply 55June 2, 2025 7:32 PM

No, they are going to pay the MS extension fees until most of them move to 11

by Anonymousreply 56June 2, 2025 8:20 PM

Microsoft is not causing the hardware to be obsolete. You are blaming them for something they are not responsible for. Could you add a TPM to a computer? Maybe but it is built into the CPU for a reason. And by Intel and AMD mind you not Microsoft. This is secure computing. You want secuirty. If your system does not suppor it then that is one you. The reason Linux is "more secure" is because less people use it so people are not activly developing viruses or malware against it. The bad people go after MS because so many people use it.
