MARY Miss, your artwork will be missed.

[quote]the Visual Artists Rights Act, which empowers artists to save their work from destruction.

I didn't read the article, but fuck that. If you give something to someone or they buy it from you, they should be allowed to do whatever they want with it, especially in this case, where it has become a hazard

Agreed R3

I think it's too expensive too maintain.

by Anonymousreply 5January 15, 2025 4:27 AM

The artist agreed to be paid $900,000 to end the lawsuit and no longer impede the demolition. So much for her claim that it was an important work meant for the people. And I say this as someone who used to rep artists.

Meh. Everybody has to cut their losses, at some point. Maybe she felt strongly about it, but realized it was going to take tons of time and money to fight something that she may lose.

This was a poorly written contract come due, written in the past and with no regard for disabilities law, or that the artwork be subjected to the outdoors and need the funds to be kept up.

Isn't impermanence one of the points of "land art"?

by Anonymousreply 10January 15, 2025 2:19 PM

I say hold a free concert for the local hells angels chapters , and have them trash the place at the end of the night.

the might cover half the proposed dismantling cost.

by Anonymousreply 11January 15, 2025 5:54 PM

I mean, it’s DesMoines. So what? Who cares?

by Anonymousreply 12January 15, 2025 5:58 PM

It's an interesting work of landscape art. But I can see it as a menace to public safety by the public is VERY dump and I see many danger points on this structure. Especially teenagers might try stunts.

Miss Miss, I have problems of my own.

by Anonymousreply 14September 28, 2025 11:52 AM

I like art museums that just display works on paper or canvas.

Landscape art, performance art, video art, etc. Most of that stuff is pretentious bullshit by people who can't draw.
