R11, whether that's true or not, this only goes to reinforce the superficiality of L.A. gays. They're together nine years, but then opt to split THREE DAYS after losing their house in a fire? This is simply not how normal people function, but OTOH "normies" don't post constant thirst traps and constant "proof" that "our love shall conquer all."
At this point it should be zero surprise that a couple that "looks great" on Instagram has epic drama IRL.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 13, 2025 6:27 PM |
I was not a follower but that was pretty much my take, r15. Presenting a fake image to the world because they were addicted to the attention and the resulting money. Had there been discussions of trouble in the relationship or does this news come as a surprise to their “fans?’
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 13, 2025 6:44 PM |
When Max posted a few days ago that this was the worst week of his life, I suspected that it was more than the house burning down. I feel badly for them; after the death of Andres' mother and then the failed adoption, losing everything would break any relationship, and I'm sure there is much more that they don't share on SM.
Since I don't post on Instrgram, and suspecting that one or both either peruses DL or has a Google alert set up, I'll express condolences and best wishes here.

So that glorified shack @R13/R14 was valued at 2 or 3 million before the fires, and considered a "steal" in LA real estate parlance???
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 13, 2025 6:53 PM |
Is this your first time exploring California real estate r18? It is expensive as fuck to buy property.
Welcome to the housing crisis.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 13, 2025 6:58 PM |
No, R19. As a matter of fact, I learned about the CA real estate game back in 1964 when my uncle explained to my father that he paid $48K for his Pacific Palisades house purchased new in 1956, then watched it double, triple and quadruple in value in the intervening years so he could put it up for sale and buy a bigger, better house off Mulholland Drive for $250K with little out of pocket cash and little to no increase in his monthly house payment. My uncle continued to play this game very successfully until he was well into his late 70s and bought his final house in Thousand Oaks in 1999, again with little to no out of pocket cash outlays and the same mortgage payment he had in 1956.

Max and Andres have always had an non-monogamous relationship r21. They didn't have to worry about getting tired of fuckin each other.
It seems like a case where they were staying together for the kid. When that didn't work out, and then the house burned down, realized a perfect opportunity to call it quits.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 13, 2025 8:02 PM |
At least they weren’t quite as annoying as their Instagay couple friends, Mike Del Moro and Alec something or other. The redhead is insufferable. .
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 13, 2025 8:14 PM |
It sounds like that they were like many couples who would have broken up but couldn't afford to since they were financially tied together with the house.

OMFG, surely no one asked for this pablum?
After nine years together we’ve decided to separate. The fire that took our home accelerated this decision by giving us clarity and simplicity. We were already beginning to explore different paths- this tragedy is serving as a catalyst for a clean break.
It’s time to start again, as individuals.
Our time together wasn’t wasted. We still love each other fully, deeply, and unconditionally. That love doesn’t end; it evolves.
We are part ways with respect and gratitude, carrying forward all that we’ve learned.

They should move into my home. I always need expert PR advice and these two could lift my brand.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 13, 2025 10:34 PM |
R27, all three couples hung out together when they were based in NYC and continued to move in the same circles. Each couple, a preening Instagay pair. In terms of smug and annoyance levels, I’d say place Max and Andrea at the lower end (low end comparatively), then Taylor and Jeff in the middle, and Mike and Alec and their YouTube baby quest channel as the most annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 13, 2025 10:34 PM |
So, if there house hadn't burned down, they would have gone on pretending they're a happy couple, like so many other miserable straight and gay couples.
Why is being single considered such a liability and a horrible fate by so many desperately unhappy, coupled people?
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 13, 2025 10:38 PM |
I've been single and I've been coupled. They are about equal in advantages and disadvantages. Being in a used up passionless couple isn't all bad. There are many upsides to the companionship.
One time I broke up from a long term relation then spent a decade with fuckbuddies, and some of them for a decade! The hottest sex for the longest time were fuckbuddies I knew the least about and had no social contact with, outside of sex and some chats afterwards. I look back fondly on those men and it's kind of sad also that I never really knew them. It's not like they will show up to comfort me when I'm old or sick. But man, they did everything to send me to the moon, and I to them, too.

I understand the trading up, "the game," R20, but don't understand the chain of transactions only to end up with a mortgage, however modest, in one's late 70s.

It just shows how phony people are on social media. Portraying happy lives and then announce they’re breaking up a week after their “so in love” posts.

by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 14, 2025 1:29 PM |
I’ve been married (male/male) 13 years and it’s a loving and happy married life on balance, but it is not always easy. The love remains deep and/but there’s so much day to day compromising, mundanity, living with each other’s flaws and slow motion aging processes, and occasional conflict. Ultimately you have to keep on quietly committing over and over to love this person, to care about him right up alongside caring about yourself, and to admire him as is. Because it’s easy to claim “the chemistry isn’t what it was, back in our early years…” because of course not, how can it be.
I cannot imagine maintaining a healthy and happy marriage in private while being social-media influencers. If one or both of you gets addicted to presenting an idealized portrayal of your life, and addicted to those Likes and Comments and DMs from fawning strangers all the time.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 14, 2025 1:59 PM |
p.s. forget where I saw it but apparently a very large % of couples who lose their home and possessions to natural disasters, divorce/break up within 5 years. It’s just such a raw and confusing and harrowing experience to go through and it inevitably involves mental health challenges on top of trying to rebuild your life materially from total loss… sometimes extreme.
These two wouldn’t be the first childless couple to mistakenly think adopting a child would improve their weakening relationship. It seems the loss of their home was the death blow to what was already faltering after the adoption attempt failed. And in this case, probably better for the infant to have stayed with bio family.

The "podcast" above is a train wreck. Is that the secret to their popularity as social media personalities? People paid attention because they couldn't look away from the shocking banality, narcissism, and mumbo jumbo bullshit, from 2 cute men?
by Anonymous | reply 61 | January 14, 2025 4:19 PM |
I get the impression most of these "couples" are merely performing. Were they a real couple or just together because they are photogenic and could amass followers? Losing the set of the show could certainly lead to cancellation.

[quote]It's easier to make up a story when no one else is involved [R52]. I don't believe any of it.
And now you know why a couple that lives their lives on social media face constant difficulties, and, I suspect, what played a big part in their breakup.
No, they didn't just find a random woman. They used an agency that they carefully selected for their honesty, track record, and of course, willingness to work with gay couples. It was expensive and time consuming. There were extensive background checks, home visits., and qualifications met, a process that they reported took years to complete. It was an intentional process that they had to deeply commit to completing, and they did.
Only then were they shown to prospective mothers as one viable choice, and when the mother felt they were a match, they then stepped in to cover the mother's expenses, for months, up to an including her hospital stay due to premature birth. They were present during the birth; they even took pictures of Andres cutting the umbilical cord... only to have the mother's relatives accuse the mother of selling the baby and do everything they could to prevent the adoption to proceed. The mother ultimately backed out of the agreement — which was within her rights and completely appropriate, but heartbreaking.
So, no, it wasn't a fabricated story, and it was not some willy-nilly social media storytime adventure.
I'm not some big time Max and Andres fan boy; but as an eldergay who has been there and fought for our rights, I had a keen interest in their process (and I also follow several other gay men who have adopted children, specifically on Instagram, but elsewhere as well). It's disingenuous to criticize gay men who are, for better or worse, on the front lines of advancing our stories and rights in the public sphere, particularly when the facts as I have spelled them out here are widely available in entertaining format to explain the adoption process and the difficulties gay men face trying to live their lives.

Sorry about their house, truly, but it must be a shock to the system to have to endure in real life something that pretty doesn't make easy for you.
(Max's family all think he's an asshole. So there's that. Pretty doesn't guarantee ALL relationships.)
by Anonymous | reply 65 | January 14, 2025 5:09 PM |

They were DONE. The fire made it clear, so good for both of them for finally viewing this plainly, and making the healthiest decision possible under the circumstances.
They’re both hot, so each one will bounce back quickly and be just fine, as long as neither fall into the meth scene due to the trauma of the fire & break up.
Good luck to both, genuinely. 🙏🏽

[quote]I love how just five weeks ago, they posted this picture of perfect relationship bliss, as if they were the happiest couple in the world.
R78, photos, posed or not, are of an instant. The truth is of that moment. Or is it? A candid group photo might show you enraptured in someone's story (or is it your own thoughts?) so that any stranger might think you were swooning over a person you genuinely dislike. A posed selfie with a partner is always going to have a fair share of artifice to it. How could it not?
[quote]If you can break apart after 9 years together, without even one tear shed, you know that it was an empty relationship to begin with.
If you see a photo posted by Instagram personalities whose principal content is not a love of container gardening or restoring an old stone house, but who instead are selling nothing but themselves, beware. All may not be exactly as presented 100% of the time.
Their day job of being IG personalities might steer the truth now and again.
And if they were photographed seemingly happy 5 weeks before their house burnt to the ground, they wouldn't be the first couple either to have put on a convincing front or to have had their partnership unravel in 5 weeks time.
I don't have any idea of who these two people are outside of this thread, but some of you are a little invested in their success or their failure.
