New to Data Lounge, Can You Explain Onscreen "Buttons"

What do these buttons mean & how do you work them?

The eye symbol in the upper right corner WW FF Person in circle with a line through it Empty Circle with a line through it

Any other tips. Thanks

Sorry, I had the buttons on separate lines but they all ran together

The eye means Murial is spying on you. Act accordingly.

WW - A vote for Wit and/or Wisdom, or just general support

FF - Flames and Freaks, used when the post is awful in some way

Silhouette struck out - You'll never see this person's posts again

General "no" sign - You'll never see this thread again

OP, they're not all that useful nowadays, but "WW" is supposed to mean "wit & wisdom" and "FF" is "flames & freaks." The former is a compliment; the latter means someone thinks the poster is a troll. DL used to display the best W&W posts as decided by its users, but I can't even remember the last time it was used like that. (For practical purposes it was eliminated after the site's current design was locked in, at least a decade ago.)

The symbol with a line through it hides the thread from your feed. The one with a human outline bans all posts from the same poster, e.g. if you've concluded they're a troll.

Finally, the site's moderator – referred to as Muriel, Webbie or Editor, depending on who's doing the asking – still blocks & redtags troll posts, but I'm unclear whether they do so because they're been reported via F&F or merely noticed manually.

If you pay for the VIP membership, additional "buttons" appear that let you see who has F&Fd you and W&Wd you, if you're ever so lucky with the latter, which seems doubtful.

The up arrow is for ordering borscht, and the down arrow is for when something is factually accurate.

Manvox does this better

Thanks. Does clicking on the eye and turning it orange mean I'm watching the thread?

When I click on WW or FF it goes lighter but the number doesn't change. Why?

Do people know if I hit WW or FF on their thread?

by Anonymousreply 8January 10, 2025 11:03 PM

The eye turning orange means you’ve rung for the stewardess.

Yes.

The number of WW or FF is not reflected for individual posters/users.

[quote] Do people know if I hit WW or FF on their thread?

No unless you have VIP Membership. See r5. The equivalent on Manvox is Platinum.

OP,

If you click on the eye icon, it turns orange, meaning you are following that particular thread.

It will also appear on the right hand side of your screen for easy access, along with the other threads you follow.

I would clarify here that the number of cumulative WW “votes” eventually updates for the individual post or thread, but it doesn’t show that by individual user/poster.

Thanks again!
