Deleting my Meta accounts and coming back here for online social fun last year is one of the best things I did. You won't miss them.
Google searches for deleting Facebook, Instagram explode after Meta ends fact-checking

First an aside: Goddamn that man is ugly, inside and outside.
What's the point of fact checking? And fact checking what? We have some tip of the iceberg persective on just how stupid people are, and given that, does anyone think the most ignorant or most predisposed to believing what they want to believe. Do these people give a rat's ass about interntional third-party truth investigators, or their warnings, or FB saying that it can reduce distribution of flagged items?
I maintain an account on FB but haven't posted anything in years, nor most of my friends. I use it to follow organizations and events, things of specific interest and geography. I have only 300 friends or so, a handful of real friends, former neighbors, a couple relatives, and the bulk are more in the way of professional contacts or organizational accounts -- museums, art galleries, travel related interests.... There's not much room for controversy. If a personal acquaintance posts a link to some news article, it's usually about an exhibition, or an essay that's not political. I've never encountered anything with a FB flag from its international third-party fact-checkers. There's zero political content beyond a couple of acquaintances who post the occasional cartoon or what's clearly personal opinion. FB is the last place to which I'd turn for politcial news or opinion. And Instagram much less. I like Instagram and post and spend maybe an hour a day searching through a feed that's almost entirely visual: travel, historical sites, art, architecture, select cities... Zero political content or anything for fact-checkers to check (erroneous life dates of Peter Paul Reubens?), a dodgy street address in Rome for the Palazzo Altemps?
For me, fact-checking or not makes no difference. I stumble past enough suggested random political and current affairs contents and opinion content (from outside my self-selected) that I don't see that the loss of fact-checkers will have the least effect.
People stupid enough to get all of their news and opinion pieces from Facebook and Instagram seem impervious to facts anyway, or at least seriously disinclined. Highly selected sample enforcement of fact-checking seems not to have helped anything, and I can't see that the loss of it will open some world without rules -- that exists already if that's what one seeks. Maybe I'm completely removed from some horror show that's on the cusp of release, but FB's record of protecting people from themselves doesn't seem so very strong that removing some begrudging oversight will improve or worsen anything.

Still patting myself on the back for never getting on ANY social media, especially Facebook, Instagram & TikTok.

Lawd, he's hideous even with all of his money.
Regarding the fact checking, only the tards and conspiracy theorists who live in Delulu Land ever had problems with it so this only affects them. Now their "research" will always be 100% right for their followers (who were going to agree with them anyway). Happy for them! They should all celebrate with with a handful of horse dewormer and a couple of glasses of raw milk.

I get the outrage, but to be fair, a lot of artists (figure drawing, male art, erotic art) I follow get censored unfairly on Insta so maybe this will end that.
