Anyone else watching this? Look at all the Ex Presidents sitting together, even shaking hands with Dump.

by Anonymousreply 1January 9, 2025 1:57 PM

Melania looks miserable! As usual.

by Anonymousreply 2January 9, 2025 1:59 PM

Pence is there too. How anyof them can stand to be in the same room as that vile traitor is beyond me.

by Anonymousreply 3January 9, 2025 2:04 PM

All of the living presidents are there.

by Anonymousreply 4January 9, 2025 2:04 PM

Interesting to watch the brief exchange between the Trumps & the Pences. The Trumps shook hands with Mike, while Karen seemed to ignore them both.

by Anonymousreply 5January 9, 2025 2:06 PM

The Quayles there, but not the Cheneys.

by Anonymousreply 6January 9, 2025 2:07 PM

Michelle isn’t there.

by Anonymousreply 7January 9, 2025 2:09 PM

Both Nixon daughters present. It’s usually just Tricia who attends these events.

by Anonymousreply 8January 9, 2025 2:09 PM

Why isn’t Michelle there? Dubya must be pissed. And what were Barack & Donald chatting so amiably & at length about?

by Anonymousreply 9January 9, 2025 2:11 PM

Poor 2nd Gentleman having to sit next to Trump's shitty diaper. They're squeezed into that pew like sardines!

by Anonymousreply 10January 9, 2025 2:12 PM

I wish President Obama would discourage donald's chatting with him. donald is using the "captive" Mr. Obama seated beside him as a prop to draw attention to himself ("See how friendly I am!)

by Anonymousreply 11January 9, 2025 2:13 PM

Jeff Carter is an unusually ugly man.

by Anonymousreply 12January 9, 2025 2:14 PM

Obama warning Trump not to bring up the Panama Canal.

by Anonymousreply 13January 9, 2025 2:18 PM

Maybe Michelle just couldn’t stomach sitting next to Trump again.

by Anonymousreply 14January 9, 2025 2:18 PM

Even Fox News is covering this live.

by Anonymousreply 15January 9, 2025 2:18 PM

If Carter had died just a few weeks later, Kamala & Doug would be seated in the same row as Dan & Marilyn.

by Anonymousreply 16January 9, 2025 2:19 PM

They kinda have to, R15. Like Biden’s inauguration.

by Anonymousreply 17January 9, 2025 2:20 PM

How many of the former living presidents do you think will be at Trump’s inauguration?

by Anonymousreply 18January 9, 2025 2:22 PM

They may have all been executed by then, R18.

by Anonymousreply 19January 9, 2025 2:24 PM

Eldest son Jack unsuccessfully ran for the Senate from Nevada.

by Anonymousreply 20January 9, 2025 2:26 PM

Jimmy has a couple of grandsons who speak well in public.

by Anonymousreply 21January 9, 2025 2:29 PM

R15, do they have a chyron about what a loser Jimmy was?

by Anonymousreply 22January 9, 2025 2:29 PM

Justin Trudeau is there.

by Anonymousreply 23January 9, 2025 2:30 PM

Jason is one, R21. A former candidate for Georgia governor.

by Anonymousreply 24January 9, 2025 2:30 PM

Mr Jimmy deserves all the respect. Good men in politics are pretty rare. Obama is also one. Some day he’ll get a big send off too. I don’t see it for Trump, unless it happens soon (while he is in office).

by Anonymousreply 25January 9, 2025 2:33 PM

Watch! Dump and Cunt will get obnoxious phone ring and leave mid-service. Fuckin Criminal.

by Anonymousreply 26January 9, 2025 2:35 PM

I’m in tears before Steven even delivers his father’s eulogy.

by Anonymousreply 27January 9, 2025 2:36 PM

Steven Ford used to be a snack.

by Anonymousreply 28January 9, 2025 2:37 PM

What was the music that was playing when the hearse pulled up to the cathedral? Am I crazy, or was it from GONE WITH THE WIND?

by Anonymousreply 29January 9, 2025 2:37 PM

Such a nice tribute by Gerald Ford. Nice that they saved it.

by Anonymousreply 30January 9, 2025 2:44 PM

D.C.'s "Blizzard of the Century" will preclude all formal inaugural events, R18. Only the immediate family will be present to witness the swearing-in, which must take place at noon on January 20.

So no, there will be no former presidents bearing witness to the ceremony.

One can dream.

by Anonymousreply 31January 9, 2025 2:45 PM

They should snub him like he did Biden, but they have more class than that, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 32January 9, 2025 2:47 PM

Imagine if Trump was allowed to speak.

"He built a lot of houses. Lot of houses. And he said to me once, 'Mr President?' and I said, 'Yes?' and he said, 'You know, I build a lot of houses. But I could never do what you do.' And I said, 'What do you mean, Jimmy?' and he said, 'I build people's houses, but you build people's dreams. You build mansion-sized dreams. You build Trump Tower-sized dreams..."

by Anonymousreply 33January 9, 2025 2:49 PM

R33 Trump would never be that cogent, comprehensible.

Carter grandson's scripture reading was so pointed at Trump ...and MAGA... and those in thrall to riches and power. None of them would know it.

by Anonymousreply 34January 9, 2025 2:53 PM

I think Ted could have inserted “president” before all the references to “Carter.”

by Anonymousreply 35January 9, 2025 2:53 PM

Carter was appalled & disgusted by Trump. He was too honest to pretend he respected him in any way. It’s kind of weird for Donald to even be there. I hope he leaves right after & doesn’t make stupid remarks.

by Anonymousreply 36January 9, 2025 2:54 PM

The references to vice presidential embarrassment seemed particularly prescient.

by Anonymousreply 37January 9, 2025 2:55 PM

Mondale’s speech as dull as he was.

by Anonymousreply 38January 9, 2025 2:57 PM

The Naval Hymn - again!

by Anonymousreply 39January 9, 2025 2:57 PM

R36: "I hope he leaves right after & doesn’t make stupid remarks."

"What was with the 'adultery in the heart' thing? That's Democrats for you, I guess; they talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk."

by Anonymousreply 40January 9, 2025 2:59 PM

The Vances must be wondering if they have a front or second row future.

by Anonymousreply 41January 9, 2025 2:59 PM

R40 Jimmy Carter walked the walk!

And adultery is a private sin, better than the very publican transgressions of Trump et al.

by Anonymousreply 42January 9, 2025 3:01 PM

donald: the turd in the champagne punch bowl.

by Anonymousreply 43January 9, 2025 3:02 PM

The way Joe is looking, might Hunter deliver his eulogy for him?

by Anonymousreply 44January 9, 2025 3:06 PM

Donald seems to be resting his eyes.

by Anonymousreply 45January 9, 2025 3:09 PM

^ Probably laying a big turd in his diaper, just to annoy Obama.

by Anonymousreply 46January 9, 2025 3:12 PM

The Trumps are humorless. They're obviously no where near the league of the people they're seated with. Melanoma looks a lot older without the tailored lighting from photo shoots. Saggy jowls.

by Anonymousreply 47January 9, 2025 3:13 PM

Great speech by Stu Eizenstat! Carter was proud of his achievements as President and hated to be called a weak or failed President.

Bonus: Trump has to sit there & take it and the public gets to hear it uninterrupted.

by Anonymousreply 48January 9, 2025 3:13 PM

Future governor Jason Carter!

by Anonymousreply 49January 9, 2025 3:15 PM

I'm not able to watch. What is Pickles wearing?

by Anonymousreply 50January 9, 2025 3:16 PM

Where is Michelle? Sick? Or couldn’t trust herself to be polite to Trump?

by Anonymousreply 51January 9, 2025 3:17 PM

Chip Carter’s wife is a handsome woman.

by Anonymousreply 52January 9, 2025 3:18 PM

JASON CARTER!!! SQUEE!!!

by Anonymousreply 53January 9, 2025 3:18 PM

Jason Carter speaks like he could be the next nominee for the Democratic party for -- president? Governor?

One can dream.

by Anonymousreply 54January 9, 2025 3:19 PM

Let’s just make citizen Jason our next nominee.

by Anonymousreply 55January 9, 2025 3:20 PM

Yep! We need another Carter.

by Anonymousreply 56January 9, 2025 3:21 PM

Jason Carter ran for Gov of GA and lost by 8%. He's polished and appealing though, for sure.

The whole funeral is, in a way, a reminder of progressive values... true American values, as American as peach pie.

by Anonymousreply 57January 9, 2025 3:22 PM

Who gives a fuck? He lost Iran, and nothing he could have done post-presidency will ever offset that.

by Anonymousreply 58January 9, 2025 3:23 PM

R58 You speak from a certain view of history. Let's see, long after we are all dead, if you are right or not.

by Anonymousreply 59January 9, 2025 3:24 PM

Fox News cut away - not showing this speech. Their audience needs to hear it, though.

by Anonymousreply 60January 9, 2025 3:25 PM

[quote]Why is Michelle Obama not at Jimmy Carter's funeral?

'Cause she's smart.

by Anonymousreply 61January 9, 2025 3:27 PM

R58 Sure Iran is the only thing important in the world - not. What a limited perspective. Guess it wasn’t easy to find something to condemn him for, huh? That’s the best you could do?

by Anonymousreply 62January 9, 2025 3:28 PM

Yeah, I don't think MO wanted to have to be civil to the Trumps.

Also, isn't there a matter of her friendship to Hunter's first wife that has created an issue with both Jill and Joe Biden?

by Anonymousreply 63January 9, 2025 3:30 PM

Dubya looks like death warmed over. I still say he never quit drinking.

by Anonymousreply 64January 9, 2025 3:30 PM

The oppressive reign of the Shah lost Iran, R58. See Syria.

by Anonymousreply 65January 9, 2025 3:30 PM

A lot of those old men must be thinking about what their funerals will be like. What will be said about them and who will say it?

by Anonymousreply 66January 9, 2025 3:32 PM

He looks better than Biden, nightshift.

by Anonymousreply 67January 9, 2025 3:33 PM

Jason Carter made me tear up and I'm not a MARY! Jimmy Carter was a good man ... God Bless Him.

by Anonymousreply 68January 9, 2025 3:36 PM

Joe & Jimmy were both good men who were disappointed to only get one term, but made the most of the time they had. Biden’s record will get credit in history as being consequential & progressive, just as Carter’s is now.

by Anonymousreply 69January 9, 2025 3:37 PM

I liked Jason's story about the mobile phone.

And Amy is having a hard time now and then.

Jack Ford said Rahz-lyn.......when she always Rose-lyn.

by Anonymousreply 70January 9, 2025 3:38 PM

[quote]A lot of those old men must be thinking about what their funerals will be like. What will be said about them and who will say it.

donald owns this comment, R66, as he ponders particularly the articulate, loving eulogies from the Carter offspring.

by Anonymousreply 71January 9, 2025 3:41 PM

After this election, I’m glad Steven, not Jack, Ford spoke.

by Anonymousreply 72January 9, 2025 3:41 PM

Biden's outdoing himself with his eulogy.

He'll be next, poor bastard.

by Anonymousreply 73January 9, 2025 3:41 PM

After refusing to meet with Jill, Melania must hate being in the presence of the Bidens.

by Anonymousreply 74January 9, 2025 3:43 PM

Many of the things said today will be said about Joe. He will be remembered fondly & respectfully by family & colleagues.

by Anonymousreply 75January 9, 2025 3:44 PM

You certain about President Biden being next, R73?

by Anonymousreply 76January 9, 2025 3:45 PM

So glad this happened while Biden was still President. At least the Trumps aren’t in the front row.

by Anonymousreply 77January 9, 2025 3:46 PM

How did Andy Young get so old?!

by Anonymousreply 78January 9, 2025 3:48 PM

Can’t nobody die in the next 4 years or we’ll have to endure a Melania casket dance.

by Anonymousreply 79January 9, 2025 3:53 PM

I guess I'm getting a little SICK of the east coast preemption of The Price is Right over every little mishap.

by Anonymousreply 80January 9, 2025 3:55 PM

God bless Andrew Young.

by Anonymousreply 81January 9, 2025 3:55 PM

Imagine--I'm tearing up.

by Anonymousreply 82January 9, 2025 3:58 PM

There goes any WH invitation to Garth & Trisha over the next 4 years.

by Anonymousreply 83January 9, 2025 3:59 PM

R83 Like they would want one.

by Anonymousreply 84January 9, 2025 4:00 PM

At least Trump didn't simulate oral sex today. I've got the lowest of expectations.

by Anonymousreply 85January 9, 2025 4:01 PM

I wish I had recorded this.

by Anonymousreply 86January 9, 2025 4:03 PM

It'll show up on YouTube soon enough, R86.

by Anonymousreply 87January 9, 2025 4:05 PM

^And on C-SPAN.

by Anonymousreply 88January 9, 2025 4:06 PM

I have to live long enough to see Trump's funeral.

by Anonymousreply 93January 9, 2025 4:10 PM

R92 On a golf course?

by Anonymousreply 94January 9, 2025 4:11 PM

I say PROPS RESPECT for Mrs. Michelle Obama! She would have been sat next to Trump and that was definitely a "no can do!". She would not have been in the proper Christian mindset to mourn in earnest...

by Anonymousreply 95January 9, 2025 4:12 PM

At 92, Andrew Young's voice is still strong and clear. Beautiful line from his eulogy: "He went out of his way to embrace those of us who had grown up in all kinds of conflict."

by Anonymousreply 96January 9, 2025 4:13 PM

I'm watching the funeral on C-SPAN, where it's likely to be rebroadcast tonight.

Oh, look! The Alito-Thomas Court jesters!

by Anonymousreply 97January 9, 2025 4:16 PM

I see that Harry's grandson, Clifton Daniel, was there.

by Anonymousreply 98January 9, 2025 4:17 PM

Prince Edward was in attendance.

by Anonymousreply 99January 9, 2025 4:18 PM

Was that Prince Edward sitting next to Trudeau?

by Anonymousreply 100January 9, 2025 4:18 PM

Oh. Thanks, r99. My fingers were typing while you posted that.

by Anonymousreply 101January 9, 2025 4:19 PM

They whisked DJT out of there. Hope he just got into his limo & skunk away without any comments. No one wanted to have to make small talk with him.

by Anonymousreply 102January 9, 2025 4:23 PM

Love the pageantry.

by Anonymousreply 103January 9, 2025 4:24 PM

I saw an interview with Steve Ford a few years ago. He said he had retired from acting, and, like his mother, had struggled with alcohol abuse, but had been sober for many years. Inevitably, the interviewer asked him if had gone to the Betty Ford Center, and he laughed and said "No, I was an outpatient at my local hospital."

by Anonymousreply 104January 9, 2025 4:42 PM

Will the MIA Michelle be at the inauguration? Asking for a friend.

by Anonymousreply 105January 9, 2025 5:00 PM

[quote] Maybe Michelle just couldn’t stomach sitting next to Trump again.

[quote] Yeah, I don't think MO wanted to have to be civil to the Trumps.

So here are my thoughts on this:

I think it's a bad look.

Michelle Obama hates Trump as much as the rest of us. I get it. I totally get it.

But there are some things you just have to rise above. And it makes her look like a hypocrite. Isn't she the one who preached, "When they go low, we go high?"

Well I think not showing up for a beloved President's funeral, when EVERY OTHER former President and Vice-President and their spouses showed up, makes her look small and petty.

It's so weird how many "feuds" she has going on. Michelle hates Trump. Michelle doesn't like the Bidens because of how they treated Hunter's ex-wife. Michelle didn't want to campaign for Kamala.

Who ISN'T she fighting with?

I always knew this was the real Michelle Obama, but everyone here worships her, so I usually hold my tongue.

But this is just downright classless. Sometimes, you just have to suck it up, buttercup.

It's embarrassing for Barack, that his wife is such a petty bitch, and he has to keep answering the question, "Where's Michelle?"

In front of the entire world!

Poor Barack has to probably make up a bullshit excuse for her. "Oh, she's not feeling well." Ugh.

I get that she didn't sign up for this. And once Barack's term was over, she was done with it.

But as a former First Lady, you have a duty to your country to continue to fulfill certain obligations. And attending the State Funeral of a very beloved former President is one of those duties.

I honestly expected more from her. This is - sad to say - a very Donald Trump move.

by Anonymousreply 106January 9, 2025 5:10 PM

I respect Mrs. Obama for refusing to play the game; her rebuffing donald is long overdue.

Enough is enough. Tradition, be damned!

by Anonymousreply 107January 9, 2025 5:21 PM

The best talks were Ford's eulogy, Carter's grandson Jason's eulogy, and Andrew Young's remarks.

And I just love how they reversed the order of precedence so that Trump was seated furthest from the center aisle. Well-planned and well-executed snub.

by Anonymousreply 108January 9, 2025 6:49 PM

W. also snubbed the Trumps. He might as well be a Whig now.

by Anonymousreply 109January 9, 2025 7:00 PM

Apart from her understandable concerns for her husband that day, Karen Pence was also at the Capitol on J6.

by Anonymousreply 110January 9, 2025 7:04 PM

Ohhhh, R106, I totally disagree. How much more should one have to take when having your moral and ethical standards violated again, and again, and again? How much more should the battered woman take until she reaches the point of enough is enough?

Yes, Mrs Obama said "If they go low, we go high" but did you really listen to her speech at the Democratic convention? She modified that. I suppose she re-listened to Fannie-Lou Hamer's speech, "I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired."

There are no rules about what First Ladies must do or what they must not do. Previous First Ladies have shown that. Mrs. Barbara Bush specifically forbade Trump at her funeral. Other First Ladies have shown other examples of not cowering to the expectations of others. In this moment, Mrs. Obama chose her principles and values over what others expect.

IMHO, her non-show says more, and will be much more impactful to many, and shame those who have chosen to "bend the knee" and cower to Trump.

by Anonymousreply 111January 9, 2025 7:13 PM

Good on Karen Pence, but she missed her chance to go full Ruby on Trump. Or failing that, she could've slapped him silly.

by Anonymousreply 112January 9, 2025 7:18 PM

As for W. not greeting Trump, don't the presidents all gather in a holding room before they take their seats? So he might have greeted him earlier.

by Anonymousreply 113January 9, 2025 7:41 PM

Dubya should've pants'd Trump, exposing his poopy diaper to the world.

[quote] Bush did stand to greet them and was roundly snubbed by Bill and Hillary – even after Hillary sat next to him and at no point appeared to greet or acknowledge him

Here's a prime example of media exaggerating. It's well known that Bush Sr. and Barbara Bush considered Bill Clinton almost one of their sons, and the Clintons have enjoyed a close relationship with Bush Jr. and Pickles ever since. They had likely been talking before they even went to their seats and there was no need to greet each other as if they hadn't seen each other in a while.

by Anonymousreply 122January 10, 2025 12:12 PM

R111 Michelle Obama not attending didnt snub djt, she snubbed President Carter.

by Anonymousreply 123January 10, 2025 12:25 PM

If anyone has asked and it has not been answered, Jimmy & Rosalynn's son Jeff looks so bad because he has had Parkinson's Disease for many years. This explains why he's able to get around as well as he does.

[quote] Jeff has been able to manage his symptoms with deep brain stimulation therapy, which required getting two battery-powered electrodes surgically implanted in specific areas of his brain that manage movement. The electrodes come with a remote control.

[quote] "He can literally control his brain with his iPhone, which is wild," Josh explains. "Without his therapy, he's basically not able to do anything. And then when he turns his therapy back on with his phone, then he can stand up, he can walk around, he can hold a drink without spilling it, he can eat, he can communicate. It's a night and day shift."

I disagree again, R123. I'd argue that she honored him by choosing what is right over wrong, justice vs injustice, all that is good over evil, etc.

Just doing what is the right thing to do and walking that walk rather than just talking about that walk.

by Anonymousreply 129January 10, 2025 2:54 PM

No, it's not a different casket.

by Anonymousreply 130January 10, 2025 4:50 PM

Oh, I just read the true story about the casket! It's JFK's body that they buried in Plains! In order to hide the body from any autopsy that would should how he really died! Carter's body was taken to Arlington!!

by Anonymousreply 131January 10, 2025 5:10 PM

Have they buried him yet? It was starting to get into Weekend at Bernie's territory.

by Anonymousreply 132January 10, 2025 5:14 PM

Yes, it was after dark when the graveside service was conducted, but he's now planted right there next to Rosalyn on the grounds of their home.

by Anonymousreply 133January 10, 2025 10:03 PM

Can we bury this man already? I feel like he's been dead for 20 years.

by Anonymousreply 134January 11, 2025 2:50 AM

Since most Americans had not born by the time he left the White House, a former Carter speechwriter observed that it’s hard to imagine him as young - almost as hard as it is to imagine JFK as old.

by Anonymousreply 135January 11, 2025 3:17 AM

There will come a time when the 21-gun salute will be focused, not skyward, but directly into the casket.

WASHINGTON -- Secret Service agents on Friday officially said goodbye to “Deacon,” the code-name they used for former President Jimmy Carter, who had the longest-serving security detail in the agency's history before being laid to rest in his hometown of Plains, Georgia after a memorial service in the nation’s capital.

Carter, who died at age 100 on Dec. 29, was first assigned a protective detail as a presidential candidate on Oct. 8, 1975. That means the agency's round-the-clock mission of guarding him continued for 49 years and two months, the Secret Service said on Friday.

“President Carter had a lasting impression on everyone at the Secret Service,” said Secret Service Communications Director Anthony Guglielmi, but members of his personal detail were especially “inspired by his public service, compassion and incredible dedication to humanity.”

Agents had remained with the late president during the days of the state funeral ceremonies in Washington and accompanied his casket to its final resting place late Thursday evening on the grounds of the Carter home in Plains, Georgia.

That solemn duty officially ended on Friday, the day after his funeral service at the National Cathedral, attended by the four other living presidents, was televised worldwide.

“The USSS detail for President Carter has concluded its service after completing the evening return to Plains, Georgia and the 39th president's internment,” the Secret Service said in a statement. Its agents' “physical protection duty discontinued Friday morning.”

And, this is how many think...

Doug Billings@DougBillings--I watched President Carter’s public funeral service the other day. I do believe he was a decent human being. My question is: Why would a Christian or Christian church want or allow the song, “Imagine” to be performed at a funeral or within the sanctuary? The song is one of the most anti-Christian and, quite frankly, most depressing songs ever written. It is a WOKE song before WOKE was known. I know one thing for certain: It would never be allowed in a Catholic Church. Do any of you agree with me about my assessment of the song?

For the record, the lyrics to the song

Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us, only sky Imagine all the people Livin' for today

Ah

Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion, too Imagine all the people Livin' life in peace

You

You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people Sharing all the world

You

You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will live as one

Thanks for posting that, R138.

And what a contrast to Melania!

R139 A really important distinction... Jesus taught outside the Temple, the only time he erupted in anger was to take the scourge and drive the moneychangers from the Temple. He'd be good with Imagine. In fact Imagine is pretty much the Beatitudes (which was also read at my funeral). Yep, these conservatives who call themselves Christians are very far from the Prince of Peace. Woke Jesus? Woke Beatitudes!!

I always assumed "Imagine there's no heaven" is what set them off.

Jimmy couldn't stand the orange stain and the family did right by him.

[QUOTE]this choice of photos by the Carter Center is shadier than a Georgia peach tree in summer

These are just some truly nasty and ugly people...

Kevin Sorbo@ksorbs--Garth Brooks sings "Imagine" at Prez Carter's funeral. A song that says there's no Heaven, no Religion and everything in life is meaningless. Good choice.

Haha R143, Kamala did the same thing.

She cropped Trump right out of her photo!
