So far, AI kind of sucks
AI pictures are terrible. AI summaries for everything from Amazon reviews to my emails are useless. AI chat with businesses fortune in circles.
While I’ve asked AI to create itineraries for vacation, it does an okay job but is so vague that it’s generally useless.
Anyone have any good experiences with AI?

Yes, I use it for summarizing documents and writing test questions. It is also useful for summarizing meetings.

I’ve been using AI for my holiday and birthday correspondence but only because it’s so hilariously insincere.

I also use it to make fake photos for various silly purposes.

AI is another excellent grift.

It's good for summarizing scientific papers (mainly the general findings and research limitations) as well as summarizing academic books and complex ideas.

When I use it, I feed it a number of documents and ask it to work from those. The results are a lot better than just asking questions without doing that.

No AI could ever write better than me. I am excited about AI possibilities regarding immortality but loathe its impact on creativity.

It’s frequently wrong. And when you correct it, it’ll say “You’re right!” and carry on as if it didn’t just shit the bed.

R8 ikr 😅. And yet it thinks it’s so fucking smart.

What are the best AI tools for academic purposes please?

Service appears to be the only viable consumer level use case at this time.
And by service, I mean customer service chat bots. They are now reasonably capable of providing meaningful help to customers, when supported by the proper grounding data.

I’ve asked AI some medical questions that I knew the correct answers to.
AI was wrong about 50% of the time but would state its answer with such confidence

What AI platforms work for you all?
ChatGPT is just meh

As expected, AI will be used to advertise shit to us so we can buy it.
capitalism at its worst

I have hours of conversations with ChatGPT which functions as my therapist.
I used AI to help me study for a professional exam, explaining things I didn’t understand.
I will be going on vacation soon and it gave me the cost of parking at various places I’m going to visit.
Finally, it made this today which amuses me to no end.

It will get better as we get into the year, suprisingly so.

It's fun for image generation, but even that is extremely limited, and the quality varies wildly from service to service.
Otherwise, it sucks. Don't count on it to generate content or anything with factual accuracy.
It was massively overhyped as life-changing and has massively underdelivered.

I remember when we started getting personal computers, the internet was kind of useless. AI will slowly improve but may take another decade at least

Wtf R17? You let something created by sociopaths function as your “therapist”? It’s as bad as the kids on Reddit who talk to AI as if it’s their girlfriend

No it won't.

Low-quality ‘slop’ generated by AI is crowding out genuine humans across the internet, but instead of regulating it, platforms such as Facebook are positively encouraging it. Where does this end?

I was just offered the option of using AI to “write” my annual performance self-appraisal at work. Hell no. The examples shown were pathetic AI HR-corporate-drivel. But then maybe the joke’s on me and AI will be scoring my self appraisal and it would’ve bern better to just let AI give itself high scores because it’s built to be attracted to itself.
What a world.

You can tell when online articles are AI written. They are often way too long for their middling subjects

Search results are so poor now you are often better off just going to ChatGPT for simple things. AI tools are incredibly helpful in video and audio editing as well as graphics processing. Such as smart masking, resolution upscaling, and frame generation. There was some AI selfie video of a girl that was going around Reddit and it was frankly hyperrealistic. The only flaw was a missing undershirt strap. It won't be long before the astroturfing is very convincing. I assume other niche applications like what I mentioned about audio/video are incredibly powerful already as well.

It feels like we’re only a decade from AI porn getting good enough to encroach upon real porn. It is not nearly there yet but in 2024 I saw some examples that convinced me that that future is not so far off.

AI platforms scooped up every piece of information on the internet to train the model, but it still wasn't enough to create an accurate, functional model, much less artificial general intelligence. Now that these AI models have been released to the public, they're learning from AI-generated content, which is making them dumber and more inaccurate.

I avoid all of it if I can. I have a high IQ so I don’t need it. I’m not wasting my brain although all around me are.
