Timothée Chalamet's interview with Nardwuar has internet calling him "One of the most Likeable Celebrities"

Timothée Chalamet is having the best year in 2024, but his acting career apparently would've never taken off if it hadn't been for the chivalrous gesture of a California rapper.

Earlier this year, Timothée reprised his role as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's Dune: Part Two, and he ate the press tour up alongside his costars Zendaya, Florence Pugh, and more with fashionable homages to the film.

Towards end the year, Timothée starred in another Oscar contender, A Complete Unknown, based on legendary folk singer Bob Dylan, but went for a different, entirely unexpected strategy during the press tour.

It started off with him tapping into his fashion bag and paying tribute to Bob's 2003 look at the premiere of his own film Masked and Anonymous.

For the rest of the press tour, Timmy had gone for a completely unknown tactic of being the most unhinged and unsuspecting guest, and it's really working for him in the eyes of the public.

On Dec 7, the Wonka actor stunned everyone during ESPN College GameDay when he effortlessly cosplayed as a sports pundit, firing off his surprising knowledge of college football.

On Dec. 19, Timothée joined his A Complete Unknown costar Elle Fanning for Vogue's "Off the Cuff," and the interview went completely off the rails.

Then, the Call Me By Your Name actor kept the unhinged press tour going with an appearance on Brittany Broski's BroskiReport, revealing that he's internet-obsessed like the rest of us.

And on Christmas, he appeared in Nardwuar vs. Timothée Chalamet, where the eccentric celebrity journalist and musician asked him a series of deep-cut questions at Record Surplus in Los Angeles.

When Nardwuar asked Timothée about being "knighted" by California rapper Lil B, The Based God, he attributed this random moment to his acting career "taking off."

According to Timothée, back when he was a student at NYU, he met Lil B and met him after asking to be knighted. "I had $50 from a commercial I did," he said.

"I bribed a kid to give me his ticket. I was in there alone, you know, front row to the right. I raised my hand. I got called on by him. I told him I was going to ask out a crush, and he invited me on stage, and he knighted me," he explained.

"And honestly, he said, 'That boy's hand's been blessed,' and from there, my acting career took off," Timothée added.

"Lil B is like a hugely formative artist in my life and career," Timothée said. "He dropped an album called I'm Gay, and the rollout was very ambiguous about his sexuality or the meaning of the album, and I was just inspired from the sense that, 'Wow, this guy's just doing whatever the fuck he wants,' and it was just cool to me at the time in this genre of hip-hop that he was like all over all the place."

"I was struggling before that. I'd just did Royal Pains, and then, you know, I was nominated for an Oscar by the time I was 22. Shout out Lil B. Nothing possible without Lil B. Pray to the Based God."

It's stuff like this that really makes Timmy stand out from other young actors.

Despite all of his success, he's very unpretentious and relatable.

I would love to see him win an Oscar next year.

by Anonymousreply 2December 28, 2024 11:41 PM

OMG he is so fucking adorable in that interview at R1.

And gorgeous, too.

And that HAIR!

by Anonymousreply 3December 28, 2024 11:53 PM

We don’t care

by Anonymousreply 4December 29, 2024 12:01 AM

R4 = Austin Butler, seething with jealousy.

by Anonymousreply 5December 29, 2024 1:29 AM

Well we'll see. The media says all kinds of shit. I'm not saying he's not likeable now, but the media will tear him down whenever they want to.

by Anonymousreply 6December 29, 2024 1:39 AM

That interviewer was amazing.

I like his style.

by Anonymousreply 7December 29, 2024 3:01 AM

His acting career took off because he fucked the right people.

by Anonymousreply 8December 29, 2024 3:44 AM

Just ask film crews how Chalatrashian’s likability.

by Anonymousreply 9December 29, 2024 3:45 AM

He treated the Wonka crew like shit, ignored a press aide at Cannes who tried to get him to step aside from a photo call, and he flicked ash at patrons at a Beyoncé concert. There are many more examples but those are just a few at what a narcissistic, hysterical asshole he is.

by Anonymousreply 10December 29, 2024 3:46 AM

This feels like they’re promoting the publicity. Like some brash PR is congratulating themselves on a strategy that actually hasn’t really taken off - A Complete Unknown isn’t doing that well, with less than a $25M Christmas opening - so they’re promoting the strategy.

He feels like somebody who within a few years people could be saying, “WHET Timothy Chalamet?”

by Anonymousreply 11December 29, 2024 5:03 AM

I mean, I don’t care about ESPN. That doesn’t mean anything to me. Who gives a shit about an interview with some obscure rapper - that’s better publicity for the interviewer than the subject. They are literally promoting the publicity. Sounds a bit removed from the primary objective which is to be promoting something you are actually selling.

by Anonymousreply 12December 29, 2024 5:07 AM

He is somebody who can become forgettable unless the PR machine is overwhelming the public with daily content.

by Anonymousreply 13December 29, 2024 5:26 AM

[quote] he flicked ash at patrons at a Beyoncé concert

Hahahaha.

I like him even more now!!

Because I fucking hate Beyonce and her stans.

by Anonymousreply 14December 29, 2024 5:43 AM

“Timmy is being perceived as likeable. Our plan is working.”

by Anonymousreply 15December 29, 2024 7:37 AM

I have a feeling that all of the other actors in Timmy's age group must be so jealous of him, hence the hatred and vitriol aimed at the guy.

He's pretty much the only male A-lister under 30, so they are gunning for him.

Hollywood is full of jealousy and envy.

by Anonymousreply 16December 29, 2024 12:35 PM

I love Nardwuar and I think he actually trolled Timothee (who a true dyed in the wool punk like Nardwuar certainly doesn’t care for) by exposing him as a dilettante who certainly didn’t immerse himself in Bob Dylan at all and is completely outclassed by a nerdy punk who probably doesn’t even like Bob’s music. The Evaporators (Nardwuar’s band) have some really fun tunes - I Feel Like A Fat Frustrated Fuck, Addicted to Cheese, I Don’t Need My Friends To Tell Me Who My Friends Are.

by Anonymousreply 17December 29, 2024 12:46 PM

R7 look into Nardwuar’s history as a political reporter, he has some legendary trolls of Canadian right wingers.

by Anonymousreply 18December 29, 2024 12:46 PM

WHET Ansel Elgort? I prefer him to Chalamet and the other douchebags of their generation of celebs. At least Elgort is pretty.

by Anonymousreply 19December 29, 2024 12:48 PM

Unpretentious?

by Anonymousreply 20December 29, 2024 12:50 PM

He has an amazing memory. I wonder how he’d do on Jeopardy.

by Anonymousreply 21December 29, 2024 1:06 PM

R11: Just like with Challengers, rather than dare admit that one of their “stars” they’ve pushing for several years can’t act and can’t put asses on seats without assistance from IPs, they’ll tell us it was a hit and promote the publicity. Millions were spent in advertising and all he could bring in was grandmothers. The ESPN stunt to win straight guys was for nothing. His collapse is complete.

by Anonymousreply 22December 29, 2024 1:22 PM

[quote]He's pretty much the only male A-lister under 30

What about Paul Mescal? He seems to be as huge in the industry right now as Chalamet and he’s only 28.

by Anonymousreply 23December 29, 2024 1:51 PM

R6: The media coverage on him has never been tough and I don't think it ever will be.

by Anonymousreply 24December 29, 2024 2:04 PM

Oh, dear. It's a complete flop.

Tsk, tsk.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 25December 29, 2024 2:19 PM

It had a budget of $60m.

Dear me.

by Anonymousreply 26December 29, 2024 2:21 PM

Elvis’ non-holiday opening weekend was $31.2M.

by Anonymousreply 27December 29, 2024 2:22 PM

If ACU has the standard 50% drop each weekend, it’s in trouble. Timothee is praised for his marketing instincts, but it’s not going to help ACU, which primarily appeals to older women. I don’t think his overtures to dudebros is having any impact.

by Anonymousreply 28December 29, 2024 2:47 PM

R25: Couldn't have happened to a more deserving prick!

by Anonymousreply 29December 29, 2024 3:06 PM

I don’t think “likeable” is how he’s coming cross at all. More like “smart-ass.” He’s looking to impress. I’m impressed with his memory. I’m not so sure about other aspects of intelligence like insight and analysis. The football comments were prepared in advance. Maybe by Timmy. Maybe by someone else.

by Anonymousreply 30December 29, 2024 3:54 PM

The majority bought tickets because of Dylan.

by Anonymousreply 31December 29, 2024 4:19 PM

Searchlight spent $60-70 million, and another $50 million (or more?) to make and market this film. I wonder if they are surprised it is only a hit among older audiences, who still have nostalgia for Dylan and the 1960's. From what I gather, it's jam-packed full of songs so it plays like a musical. Maybe it's comforting for them, but not to other younger audiences who may not have any incentive to see it. Hollywood seems to have a lot invested in Timmy, but this movie is showing the limits of his appeal. This is especially true without a sandworm or a chocolate factory.

by Anonymousreply 32December 29, 2024 4:34 PM

[quote] He treated the Wonka crew like shit, ignored a press aide at Cannes who tried to get him to step aside from a photo call, and he flicked ash at patrons at a Beyoncé concert

He also looks like a smelly rat. I really don't see the appeal.

by Anonymousreply 33December 29, 2024 4:59 PM

This thread/OP and all her replies to herself are unintentionally embarrassing to a laughable degree.

by Anonymousreply 34December 29, 2024 6:32 PM

who?

by Anonymousreply 35December 29, 2024 6:45 PM

Oh my god, who cares?

by Anonymousreply 36December 29, 2024 7:04 PM

Warner Brothers is probably regretting that first look deal they signed with him.

by Anonymousreply 37December 29, 2024 7:15 PM

[quote] Searchlight spent $60-70 million, and another $50 million (or more?) to make and market this film. I wonder if they are surprised it is only a hit among older audiences, who still have nostalgia for Dylan and the 1960's.

[quote] Hollywood seems to have a lot invested in Timmy, but this movie is showing the limits of his appeal.

As mentioned in the Baby Girl thread, I think it's more about the Oscar noms and wins, more than it is about the money.

if Timmy gets nominated or wins an Academy Award, then it's a win for the film.

And he's pretty much assured a nom.

by Anonymousreply 38December 29, 2024 8:14 PM

I guess it’s looking murky for Marty Supreme.

by Anonymousreply 39December 29, 2024 8:29 PM

Another flop for James Magnold.

by Anonymousreply 40December 29, 2024 8:42 PM

Not sure why the Globes put Timmy in the drama category. He probably could have won in the musical/comedy category.

by Anonymousreply 41December 30, 2024 1:46 AM

R41: I'm sure he'll be thinking the same thing when he watches Glen Powell (the only one who can open anything fresh and non-IP these days) win the best musical/comedy actor category.

by Anonymousreply 42December 30, 2024 2:28 AM

[quote] Not sure why the Globes put Timmy in the drama category. He probably could have won in the musical/comedy category.

Maybe he wants it to be consistent for the Academy Awards.

by Anonymousreply 43December 30, 2024 5:32 AM

Timmy looks almost exactly the same as he did in high school.

r37 The fact that they passed on Marty Supreme says it all.

by Anonymousreply 45December 30, 2024 1:58 PM

If he wins the Golden Globe, it means he bought it.

by Anonymousreply 46December 30, 2024 1:59 PM

R46: Brody is sweeping.

R44: Yep. Still ugly.

by Anonymousreply 47December 30, 2024 2:01 PM

His message in r44 is odd. You should apply to this program because even if you are rejected, you learn from failure. That’s not a reason to apply.

by Anonymousreply 48December 30, 2024 2:49 PM

He went to a performing arts school, don't expect intelligence

by Anonymousreply 49December 30, 2024 2:56 PM

But his public persona is all about intelligence.

by Anonymousreply 50December 30, 2024 2:58 PM

R50: He's under contract with the Kartrashians. He can't be that intelligent.

by Anonymousreply 51December 30, 2024 3:38 PM

He is likeable. I’m sorry I said it! I know the DL has it out for him but he’s A list for a reason. 🤷🏻‍♂️

by Anonymousreply 52December 30, 2024 4:11 PM

Being A list has nothing to do with being likable in real life.

by Anonymousreply 53December 30, 2024 4:13 PM

Actually that’s not right at all, r53. Being a huge star in our pop culture world also requires public approval. Any star that’s A list but known to be nasty is very much the exception, not the rule.

by Anonymousreply 54December 30, 2024 5:00 PM

r52 You're sorry? oookay

by Anonymousreply 55December 30, 2024 5:02 PM

[quote] Being a huge star in our pop culture world also requires public approval.

Ab-so-fucking-lutely!

by Anonymousreply 56December 30, 2024 5:03 PM

Thanks for proving my point for me r56. What you seem not to realize is

DL =/= the general public

Cruise remains one of the most popular stars in America.

by Anonymousreply 57December 30, 2024 5:16 PM

People think Tom Cruise us a fucking loony.

by Anonymousreply 58December 30, 2024 5:18 PM

Like I said r58, step out of the echo chamber.

by Anonymousreply 59December 30, 2024 5:19 PM

You think only Datalounge thinks Tom Cruise is a weirdo?

You are wrong.

by Anonymousreply 60December 30, 2024 5:21 PM

He’s liked by 58% of the public, disliked by only 18%.

Just because you’re in that 18% doesn’t mean everyone is.

by Anonymousreply 61December 30, 2024 5:24 PM

r54 Are you an idiot? In your own post where you say r53 is wrong you also say "known to be nasty". Known to be. Exactly what r53 said - that their public facades do not have to match the reality.

by Anonymousreply 62December 30, 2024 5:38 PM

[Quote] [R54] Are you an idiot? In your own post where you say [R53] is wrong you also say "known to be nasty". Known to be. Exactly what [R53] said - that their public facades do not have to match the reality.

What a stupid reply, shrieking Miss Priss. I’ve never said anything about their personalities when you know them person to person. Why does that even matter? Why even mention it?

Can you take a wild guess as to why not? How many of Chalamet’s public (people who watch his movies etc) know him irl or ever will?

My reply said “public approval.” Which is the most 99.99% of us will ever know him. Same goes for my initial post. I said likeable.

It’s truly amazing to me how many sexually frustrates incel eldergays hate-stalk popular male celebrities, relishing every failure, wishing ill on them. It’s no different from the peevish weirdos in the comments on female cekebrity’s social calling then whores or fat, or otherwise throwing the book at them.

And god forbid you should say something positive about the celebrity. The incels go completely insane.

by Anonymousreply 65December 30, 2024 7:56 PM

r65 So why did you say r53 was wrong then? Again, I must ask, are you an idiot?

by Anonymousreply 66December 30, 2024 8:09 PM

He looks like a rat here.

by Anonymousreply 67December 30, 2024 8:15 PM

R65 is unwell.

Again, must I ask, are you a pathetic incel, or the MOST pathetic incel, ratboy troll at r66 and r68?

I’m not r66

by Anonymousreply 70December 30, 2024 9:04 PM

A GORGEOUS and SEXY rat r67

by Anonymousreply 71December 30, 2024 9:06 PM

r69 So basically what happened here is you misread r53's post and, instead of just admitting you made a mistake, you doubled and tripled down.

by Anonymousreply 72December 30, 2024 10:10 PM

Another example of promoting the publicity is the claim that he and Elle Fanning recreated the Wicked holding space meme.

You rang r73?

You certainly pay attention to this “campaign” for an actor you claim to despise r75

Even I, the #1 TIMMY fan on Datalounge, don’t pay any attention to the campaign

Wonder why that is? Hatred is not the opposite of love. Indifference is.
