Which DLer has been skipping out on their bar tabs in San Francisco?

Are there any Jareds here?

[quote]SF bartenders are currently being terrorized by a serial tab-skipper known only as "Jared." There are dozens of posts on Facebook about him. One bartender even compiled a map of Jared sightings. Incredible time to be alive.

The post doesn't say how long this has been going on, but he's covered a lot of ground, 71 places.

This is hilarious. I've never had the balls to do this, but this guy's done it at least 71 times!!! WTF?

Also, he seems to have steered clear of the Haight for some reason.

by Anonymousreply 3December 28, 2024 4:53 AM

How does that even work when you have to give them a credit card to start a tab?

by Anonymousreply 4December 28, 2024 5:05 AM

Dataloungers pay their bar tabs!

by Anonymousreply 5December 28, 2024 5:08 AM

I'm r3 and I wonder if maybe he lives in the Haight so knew people would start recognizing him just from walking around/using public transportation in the area.

He also has steered clear of Japantown and Outer Sunset too.

by Anonymousreply 6December 28, 2024 5:14 AM

I don't think it's that evil considering the insane markup on alcohol. He's going to caught if he keeps going at this rate.

by Anonymousreply 7December 28, 2024 8:15 AM

He’s Luigi by the Bay! Fight the power!

by Anonymousreply 8December 28, 2024 9:57 AM

I think we could solve this one, DL.

by Anonymousreply 9December 28, 2024 9:59 AM

My thoughts exactly, R9, this has DL written all over it.

by Anonymousreply 10December 28, 2024 8:05 PM

Call the National Guard!

by Anonymousreply 11December 28, 2024 8:07 PM

Jared from Subway is still in prison so that’s one we can cross off the list.

by Anonymousreply 12December 28, 2024 8:34 PM

What *is* it about the name Jared???

by Anonymousreply 13December 28, 2024 8:34 PM

I’d say he’s a fratty gay barfly, yet he seems to also have avoided Cow Hollow-Union Street. 🤔

by Anonymousreply 14December 28, 2024 8:37 PM

[quote] Dataloungers pay their bar tabs!

No, they don't. In the supermarket self-checkout threads, there will always be somebody saying they're stealing something.

by Anonymousreply 15December 28, 2024 8:40 PM

[quote]there will always be somebody saying they're stealing something.

One person isn't DL as a whole, r15.

by Anonymousreply 16December 28, 2024 8:50 PM

There must be video of this cad from at least a few of the venues. We need to see if he’s hot before we can decide if we’re pro or con.

by Anonymousreply 17December 28, 2024 8:52 PM

It was BrendaD!

by Anonymousreply 18December 28, 2024 8:52 PM

Shhhkipping out in Shhanfranshishko!!

by Anonymousreply 19December 28, 2024 8:53 PM

What bars allow you to drink without a credit card? Maybe if you knew the staff, but there's no way bars are handing out drinks without payment securement.

by Anonymousreply 20December 28, 2024 8:57 PM

If they're starting a tab with a fraudulent CC, that's a bit different.

by Anonymousreply 21December 28, 2024 8:58 PM

R4 is right. I call bullshit.

I have been a hard core regular at a few bars over the years, and they stopped asking for a card at some point, but if bartenders are not asking for payment/card at the time of orders for unknown customers they should be fired.

That said … a bartender once told me of a scam that he (and others) had fallen for. The customer gives the bartender a pre-paid, but empty Visa gift card, drinks all night, and then disappears, and the card had like a $1.00 on it.

by Anonymousreply 22December 28, 2024 8:59 PM

Isn’t this in the beginning of WHAT’S UP DOC?

by Anonymousreply 23December 28, 2024 9:02 PM

That many he has to be doing something fraudulent with cards. No way that many bartenders have let him do it on its honor.

And with that many bars, there should be multiple images of him available.

by Anonymousreply 24December 28, 2024 9:06 PM

He’s surely white. Bartenders will give anything to white people

by Anonymousreply 25December 28, 2024 9:08 PM

Winona Ryder Drinkypoos!

by Anonymousreply 26December 28, 2024 9:09 PM

Jared Kushner?

by Anonymousreply 27December 28, 2024 9:09 PM

Jareds are no good.

by Anonymousreply 32December 29, 2024 12:02 AM

Come out, come out, wherever you are Jared!

We know you're skulking about in the background here.

by Anonymousreply 33December 29, 2024 12:04 AM

If/when he's caught, will each incident be treated as an individual crime or will the amount stolen at the 71 places be totaled to reach the $950 threshold for felony charges since it's a pattern.

by Anonymousreply 34December 29, 2024 12:10 AM

It's San Francisco. He'll be given a mug of tea, a chat, and ROR'd.

by Anonymousreply 35December 29, 2024 12:34 AM

I’m surprised this is even against the law in San Francisco.

by Anonymousreply 36December 29, 2024 12:37 AM

I don't buy it. Word would've spread quickly after the first few occasions and bartenders would be on their guard and not allowing tabs. Plus we should have at least one CCTV image.

by Anonymousreply 37December 29, 2024 12:46 AM

Prop 36 has passed, so if a person steals under $950 worth of property/merchandise they'll be prosecuted for a felony. This lovely fella was the first prosecuted under the law. He probably wasn't aware it passed or that it was even on the ballot. He stole two electric scooters that retailed for $879. 😆

Love his mouth breathing stare.

R15, I can understand stealing from a supermarket self-checkout. You’re not dealing with another human being, and for many people bagging your own groceries is annoying, even demeaning. But to go into a bar and talk to a bartender you intend to steal from—that’s creepy. I prefer to think that’s beneath most DLers.

by Anonymousreply 39December 29, 2024 1:41 AM

Jared is a bitch

by Anonymousreply 40December 29, 2024 1:43 AM

At r38, I forgot to say that they'll be charged with a felony if they have two prior convictions.

by Anonymousreply 41December 29, 2024 1:45 AM

There are pictures on Facebook, but the Twitter OP won't share them.

[quote]How is there no pic?

[quote]there are but I am not going to post them. the people who need to know already know, so far he's not a danger to the public.

Jared sounds like the name of a Mormon Provocateur pretending to be in the Sons of Dan

by Anonymousreply 43December 29, 2024 1:54 AM

Why this is bad news for the Harris/Walz New Year festivities.

by Anonymousreply 44December 29, 2024 1:57 AM

I was going to say this sounds like hetero male behavior…until I saw the skipping part.

by Anonymousreply 47December 29, 2024 2:59 AM

They're going to start putting the drinks behind plexi glass!

by Anonymousreply 48December 29, 2024 6:02 AM

This won’t even be prosecuted.

Yesterday's Reddit post:

[quote]I fucking knew it was this guy! that hair. Tried this in Oakland eariler this year at my bar but the restaurant across the street already turned us on to his game. Hope it was worth it bud.

* * * * [quote]Some SF bars also don't even ask for a card until the end. It's part of the neighborliness/friendliness thing in the bar scene in this city. It's kind of the best part of the city, since it's tough to make permanent friends so sometimes you need to go to a bar alone to get out of the house and you can often at least have a chat with the bartender. That being said, yeah it can be abused pretty easy. And most places do ask for a card up front, but there are plenty where they will trust you.

Who are you trying to lecture to, r57?

by Anonymousreply 61January 2, 2025 3:48 AM

It's mental illness to be so dedicated to the petty theft of served drinks. He's got a beef. He's been disrespected. Seems like an unemployed person only would have the time for such nonsense.
