Montreal, Quebec

Tell me about Montreal, I would like to visit. When to go? What to do? Is it safe?

In Montreal all seems to breathe freedom and peace, and to make one forget the world and its sad turmoils.

by Anonymousreply 1December 26, 2024 5:21 PM

R1 I thought that was Baltimore?

by Anonymousreply 2December 26, 2024 5:22 PM

Don't they have good gay nude clubs there?

by Anonymousreply 3December 26, 2024 5:23 PM

Big FF culture

by Anonymousreply 4December 26, 2024 5:25 PM

I don't live there but I recommend if you want to visit, don't go during winter.

by Anonymousreply 5December 26, 2024 5:25 PM

DON'T GO IN THE WINTER! I'm from Chicago and I would never go there during the winter. Anyways, I loved Montreal when I visited 6 years ago. Far safer than Chicago and it is a VERY integrated city. I saw black and Chinese people interacting a LOT which is something I have NEVER seen in Chicago (which is a very sad statement on my city) and I have lived here for a total of 12 years. Also, on Scruff, men hit on me non-stop. They are very direct, they do not beat around the bush. And they are so hot. You must eat poutine when you are there. Apparently, the bagels are as good as NYC bagels but different (I didn't have any). It seems like a very laidback city, there were people sitting and dining/drinking on the streets at 12 am. Loved the vibe there.

I love Montreal in the winter. It’s a 6 hour drive or an hour and half flight, they know how to deal with snow, and it’s easy to get around w/o a car.

by Anonymousreply 7December 26, 2024 6:03 PM

Do they speak French and English?

by Anonymousreply 8December 26, 2024 6:11 PM

R8, it's strictly a Mandarin city.

by Anonymousreply 9December 26, 2024 7:01 PM

A lot of mediocre porn comes out of there. Especially the trans variety.

by Anonymousreply 10December 26, 2024 7:10 PM

It's all about the strippers!

Raw uncut cock abounds. Mon Dieu!

by Anonymousreply 12December 26, 2024 9:12 PM

Perhaps Kamala knows, after all she spent some of her childhood there.

by Anonymousreply 13December 26, 2024 9:14 PM

R9 I prefer blood oranges.

by Anonymousreply 14December 26, 2024 9:16 PM

Celine performed her iconic casket dance in the local cathedral.

by Anonymousreply 15December 26, 2024 9:18 PM

Le veuve Angélil.

by Anonymousreply 16December 26, 2024 9:36 PM

Massive, uncut Quebecois cock. Lots of body odor.

by Anonymousreply 17December 26, 2024 9:41 PM

How is the fashion? Current or slightly behind?

by Anonymousreply 18December 26, 2024 9:43 PM

Au courant.

by Anonymousreply 19December 26, 2024 9:45 PM

Montreal has the hottest men in the world! They're like, the perfect blend.

by Anonymousreply 20December 26, 2024 9:56 PM

Blend of what precisely, R20?

by Anonymousreply 21December 26, 2024 9:58 PM

French Canadians are incredibly rude, pushy and I’ll-mannered

by Anonymousreply 22December 26, 2024 10:01 PM

R17, I didn't notice anyone with BO there. I was in both Montreal and Quebec City. I heard what R22 is talking about but I did not experience any of that. But you do feel the "space" between English and French speaking Canadians. It's as bad as the white-black situation in Chicago. Maybe a bit better.

I loved Montreal in the winter! I was there for a week in January. Tons of seemingly uninhibited, sexy men looking to hook up (based on my experience). I stayed in a hotel near the cathedral and hooked up all but one day. I went for a work convention but barely attended it due to my horniness and the endless stream of hot guys looking to meet. Thankfully my talk was on the first day. 😅

It’s true about their body odor, but a hotel room with a hot shower was the ticket for my enjoyment. There were no games, no “escorts,” nothing but spur of the moment sex. I note that nightlife starts very late and goes all night. That’s not my scene, but my Scruff was full of messages when I woke up in the morning — most of them from 4:00 am, including some apparently from guys in my hotel. I don’t really go to clubs any more, so I appreciated the apps to find sex without the grind of going out.

The subway was okay, I guess. I Ubered almost everywhere though.

by Anonymousreply 24December 26, 2024 10:15 PM

amazing clubs, there used to be a gay hotel that was only for men and allowed people to roam around in a towel all over like a bathhouse. You could stay in your room or cruise, it was surreal but fun

by Anonymousreply 25December 26, 2024 10:19 PM

R22 Those are Parisians.

And French Canadians are dying anyways and being replaced by Indians, Chinese, Haitians and Arabs. There are now more Muslims in Montreal than Catholics. So much for the secularization of Quebec in the 1960s. Climb out of one hole and jump into another.

OP, Montreal was very safe just like Québec City. Now, just like in London, Paris, Stockholm etc. there are dangerous gangs everywhere.

Well, doesn't that sound delightful...

R29 what?

by Anonymousreply 30December 27, 2024 12:28 AM

R30, there is a troll on this website who is high on stimulants, addled by mental illness, and can't stop herself from posting constantly, so much that she often double-posts and posts to the wrong threads.

by Anonymousreply 31December 27, 2024 1:25 AM

R31 Well, I hope it is not me.

They’re ALL into foot fetishism? The city must smell awful.

My Husband is Canadian and we moved to Montreal in 2017 to flee the MAGA shithole. I've since lived in Toronto and Vancouver and IMHO Montreal is the best city in Canada (even in the winter). I grew up in Duluth, MN and think the winters in MTL are actually slightly warmer.

The majority of people in Montreal speak French and English, however, the city operates completely in French (all the signs, public transit, etc.).

Montreal is totally safe and one of the most gay friendly places in North America. i would say MTL and Quebec City are the nearest you can get to Europe in North America without actually going to Europe. Also the men in Montreal are ridiculously hot. There's a saying in the gay scenes in MTL and TO that if you're an eight in Toronto, you're only a four in Montreal.

As for the reputation of Quebecois being snobby...yes and no. Outside of Montreal it is true to an extent. But Montreal is not really "true" Quebec. Montreal (to a certain degree) is more of an international city (Quebec, unlike the rest of Canada's provinces, have semi-autonomous immigration laws and as such, most newcomers are pushed to settle in Montreal due to highly restrictive language laws).

by Anonymousreply 34December 27, 2024 2:01 AM

I've been to Montreal twice, OP, and highly recommend it. It is fun, the people are chill and down-to-earthy, the bars are friendly and there's fun things to do. I'd avoid the summer. I went in July thinking it would be cooler than New York City, but it wasn't. It was too hot to do anything.

For a place that is relatively close to NYC (370 miles), it's a pain in the ass to get to without a car. Direct flights can be expensive, Amtrak takes 10 hours, Portier Air flies through Toronto, and the buses are unreliable.
