Knots Landing is streaming, part 2

First thread is maxed out, continue bitching about the cul de sac and its residents here.

Am I twisted that I wanted the actor who played Mac deep inside of me? (I would have taken Gary, too.)

by Anonymousreply 2December 26, 2024 4:05 PM

I liked the Woodbridge/Empire Valley stories — but Lotus Point really did it for me.

by Anonymousreply 3December 26, 2024 4:17 PM

Knots had some real hotties. Besides Kevin Dobson and Ted Shackleford, Pat Peterson was a super-hottie when he grew up, plus Hunt Block and Alec Baldwin and whoever that young guy was who was on it the first couple of seasons.

by Anonymousreply 4December 26, 2024 4:24 PM

Hunt Block and Boyd Kestner really did it for me.

by Anonymousreply 5December 26, 2024 4:25 PM

My top 5 Knots Men -

1) Michael

2) Peter

3) Harold

4) Ben (He gave off thick dick energy)

5) Gary ( He just looked like all he did was fuck)

by Anonymousreply 6December 26, 2024 4:27 PM

Miss Ellie paid for the FIRST thread! Gary, her feelings are going to be hurt if we move to the second thread! The First thread is everything we ever dreamed of!!!!

by Anonymousreply 7December 26, 2024 4:30 PM

Harold! I had forgotten him. He looked like he could throw a great fuck.

by Anonymousreply 8December 26, 2024 4:49 PM

I still don't know how the same people who produced Claudia also produced Michael

by Anonymousreply 9December 26, 2024 5:07 PM

Michael needed to see a therapist. He had issues with boundaries, fucking his stepsister AND his sister in law.

I wish Eric had been given more storylines, when he cut his hair Steve Shaw was cute.

by Anonymousreply 10December 26, 2024 5:20 PM

I forgot about Harold — he is at the top of my list.

by Anonymousreply 11December 26, 2024 5:24 PM

Ted Shackelford made momma’s mussy moist!

by Anonymousreply 12December 26, 2024 7:20 PM

Are we just going to ignore Kenny?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 13December 26, 2024 7:53 PM

R4 mentioned him as the guy from the first few seasons.

by Anonymousreply 14December 27, 2024 1:30 AM

Speaking of Kenny - the series is B on season one episode 2 now. Plex started their marathon from the beginning again. Lots of PTA action and motorcycle gangs v in the next few hours.

by Anonymousreply 15December 27, 2024 3:40 AM

KL is streaming all 14 seasons on Discovery+

Just started it.

Sid caught Karen Allen fucking in his bed!

by Anonymousreply 16January 11, 2025 2:47 PM

I related to when Karen was addicted to Escandeen. I also had a bout with Escandeen. Nasty stuff.

by Anonymousreply 17January 11, 2025 3:03 PM

They should have kept Karen Allen, she was fun.

by Anonymousreply 18January 11, 2025 3:04 PM

I had a man crush on Ben/Doug Sheehan since his General Hospital Days. I even crushed on him in Victor/Victoria. Im not sure how someone without any musical theater/ dance in their bio got to be the lead male dancer in Le Hot Jazz, but thefe he is next to Julie Andrew’s.

by Anonymousreply 19January 11, 2025 3:12 PM

R19 That’s him. He bounces around stage lady and right at first. But after the costume change to the tuxes, he’s on Julie’s right:/ stage left.

by Anonymousreply 20January 11, 2025 3:22 PM

If I had to live with loud asshole Mack; shrieking cunt Diana; two dirty teenage boys; and pushy, overly familiar Mary Frances; I’d reach for the pills too.

by Anonymousreply 21January 11, 2025 3:55 PM

Episode 2 is insane!

Laura fucking her old flame so her husband can get his account.

Karen fucking JR (apparently with Sid's approval!) so Gary can get into JR's office to steal documents.

These skanks really love that beachfront property!

by Anonymousreply 22January 11, 2025 4:01 PM

This is the CiJi found dead episode - this whole day on Plex will be a good run of episodes. Lilimae should hit Chip with the car by tonight!

by Anonymousreply 23January 11, 2025 4:52 PM

Lilimae should have backed up and aimed for Diana next

by Anonymousreply 24January 11, 2025 4:57 PM

Claudia Lonow, who could not hide the NY influence in her voice, stuck out like a sore thumb in that family and the character was just awful. I was surprised they kept her for 5 seasons, but Ginger and Kenny also stuck around long after they had anything to do.

Karen’s sons were cute and charismatic and it’s tragic that Steve Shaw died so young.

by Anonymousreply 25January 11, 2025 5:10 PM

Laura just got raped after going home with a sketch artist!

I swear, Laura has more sex outside her marriage than in. Of course, Richard is a gross little toad.

Ginger & Kenny just popped off after taking the last 3 episodes off. Kenny took his shirt off to reveal a nice furry treat.

by Anonymousreply 26January 11, 2025 5:40 PM

I don't have any Mallomars but I do have some oatmeal raisin cookies.

Are they better to dip in Ranch or Bleu Cheese dressing?

by Anonymousreply 27January 11, 2025 5:54 PM

I just want Daddy Mack inside me deeply.

by Anonymousreply 28January 11, 2025 9:14 PM

I never realized how camp this show was!

I mean Dynasty was camp with the clothes, dialogue and fights but KL is equally campy just in a different way. The melodrama camp is off the scale.

This last episode with Karen versus the biker gang was crazy.

The one where Lilimae showed up with her mini harp strumming songs and triggering mommy flashbacks for all the women (Val losing Lucy, Laura's mother's funeral, Ginger forced to abort her child, Karen's mom questioning Sid's background)...

Now Sid's first wife is back and since she can't fuck him she is going after Richard and Lord knows the Averys (along with Kenny) will fuck anything with a pulse!

by Anonymousreply 29January 11, 2025 9:37 PM

Speaking of Laura’s mother’s death — does anyone remember whether the Mary Robeson story was revisionist history, or did the plot make sense with Laura’s origin story?

Thanks!

by Anonymousreply 30January 12, 2025 12:17 AM

Finishing up season 1 today.

Ginger had a stalker and Karen just miscarried!

On a positive note, Val earned her GED even with that pesky Pythagorean Theorem!

by Anonymousreply 31January 12, 2025 4:32 PM

Oh lord, the Averys are broke and need $20K!

by Anonymousreply 32January 12, 2025 4:39 PM

Gary is back on the bottle!

by Anonymousreply 33January 12, 2025 6:01 PM

Now Gary has landed himself in the nut house.

by Anonymousreply 34January 12, 2025 6:37 PM

Love this review:

Some Baby Shower This episode is among those that have aged the worst. It's boys night out and what looks like a darkened Pizza Hut while back in the cul-de-sac, the girls hold a baby shower. Camaraderie and cheerfulness abound.

That is until there is a knock at the door. Someone goes to answer it and a group of well armed, ski mask, wearing burglars push their way through the door. A baby shower. Melodrama ensues, as it should for this show. It's why we're all here.

Stick around and enjoy the camp of watching some of the worst law-enforcement work you'd ever not want to see in real life in any era. See the cast work through their issues...sorta...as they do every episode. Marvel at how Abby manages, even in a where in the heck did this come from hostage situation, to be her usual cruel husband stealing self. Be both impressed and mystified at how the writers wrapped us up in a single episode so next week it's like this never happened.

We are only near the end of season two, and the horrors these women have experienced are already enough for a lifetime. What a ride the show is! Shower crashers.

by Anonymousreply 35January 13, 2025 12:28 AM

Alec Baldwin’s earnest country boy Joshua has just met a dazzling Abby at the opening of Lotus Point. As a matter of fact she “Abby’s” him. As she walks away and he watches her - with perfect comedic timing and a straight face he says “She seems nice.”

by Anonymousreply 36January 13, 2025 1:35 AM

Jane Elliot and her drunk husband have become very tiresome guest characters.

by Anonymousreply 37January 13, 2025 1:54 AM

Jane is no Tracy Quartermaine!

by Anonymousreply 38January 13, 2025 3:49 AM

Judy is a really awful character. I love it when Abby gets rid of her and she steps into Gary’s office and says, “Are you ready for ME now?”

by Anonymousreply 39January 13, 2025 4:33 AM

Mills, Lee & Van Ark are starting a podcast soon to dish on KL.

by Anonymousreply 40January 13, 2025 12:57 PM

[quote] does anyone remember whether the Mary Robeson story was revisionist history, or did the plot make sense with Laura’s origin story?

I'm watching the last season right now, for the first time actually. It looks like Mary Robeson was not Laura's true birth mother, but her aunt. She pretended to be Meg's grandmother to make a dime. It also looks like she was hired to stir trouble in Mack's and Karen's life so that they would sell their shares in the Sumner Group. But I'm not there yet. Those details have yet to unravel. Bottom line: The Mary Robeson story was a little bit retconnig Laura's background, but it wasn't contradictory to earlier stories.

by Anonymousreply 41January 13, 2025 1:11 PM

I am binging on Prime, and I’m up to Season 7. I can pinpoint the exact moment when they switched the way the show was filmed. Episode 5 (A Little Assistance) starts a whole new look. It was more cinematic before but now is a bit cheaper and more “TV” looking.

by Anonymousreply 42January 13, 2025 7:37 PM

This episode is TOO MUCH!

Gary & Judy having a private dinner so Abby arranges to bring Val to catch them. Then Abby sits down and has THE best conversation with Judy.

Gary convinces Val there is no hanky panky happening only for Judy to show up the next day and admit it to Val.

Back at the garage the hot lil number working has designs on Sid and misunderstands Sid & Karen's relationship believing they are swingers to which Sid dumbly says, "What's good for the goose is good for the gander."

by Anonymousreply 43January 14, 2025 12:40 AM

I keep watching the marathons on a continuous loop on Plex. I take care of my mom who has dementia - I like to have familiar adult voices in the background and I am avoiding news coverage heading to the Orange One becoming president. Only you guys would appreciate the other night when my mom called out - “Lilimae just killed ANOTHER person with her car!” ……… My favorite scene in the whole show - I find it so moving with the music in the background - when Julie Harris shows up at the hospital with Joshua and Cathy and wants to see Val and the babies and they tell her the babies were born dead - Her acting as she cries out for Valene and pushes her way down the hall is really moving.

by Anonymousreply 44January 14, 2025 1:05 AM

I used to watch Dynasty and Falcon Crest and just barely remember Flamingo Road with my grandma when I was little.

She liked KL but I could never get into it like the others. Seemed boring but I do remember laughing when Harris butchered Amazing Grace at Joshua's funeral.

Now I wish I had paid more attention to it.

by Anonymousreply 45January 14, 2025 1:13 AM

Lord, now poor Val may need a colostomy!

Gary is now tearing up his house!

The shit really hit the fan now!

by Anonymousreply 46January 15, 2025 12:07 AM

When KL was in its last season and Val was declared dead, did people know that Joan van Ark and Donna Mills were coming back for the finale?

by Anonymousreply 47January 15, 2025 12:07 AM

Donna mills was a semi surprise at the time.

by Anonymousreply 48January 15, 2025 12:20 AM

The baby shower from hell is on now!

Karen is trying to maintain a level head, Ginger just wants to save her baby and Abby is ready to fuck! All the while, Laura is just delivering side eye comedy.

by Anonymousreply 49January 15, 2025 12:55 AM

R42- You are wrong- (The new production model) It was the Season 8 Premier with that horrendous Jamaican/Conga theme- Even the credits looked videotaped. Totally jarring and. weird- It happened to all 3 Lorimar shows

by Anonymousreply 50January 15, 2025 1:03 AM

R46 Yes! Gary almost hit Rric with the car and ripped the hell out of his bedroom - then his weepy call to Miss Ellie. Bobby really scolded the hell out of him. Joan Van Ark was so pretty in this episode. I really liked the chemistry that Patrick Duffy had with Gary and Val. …… Do you think that Gary left the bedroom to Valene to clean up when she got home from the hospital?

by Anonymousreply 51January 15, 2025 1:13 AM

Karen just found a joint in Eric's jacket pocket.

Of course all this is playing out with the Ewings sitting on the sofa very uncomfortably.

by Anonymousreply 52January 15, 2025 1:53 AM

Is that the episode with Ginger’s cunt mother, r52? She makes Lilimae seem like Olivia Walton.

by Anonymousreply 53January 15, 2025 2:20 AM

R52 “Are you the Man of the Hour?”

by Anonymousreply 54January 15, 2025 5:50 PM

Speaking on the podcast, Donna expressed, “We’re just putting it together. I’m starting it, so we don’t exactly know when it’s going be on or where you can access it, but we’ll let you know.” Mills added, “It’s going to just be us talking because the two of them (referencing Joan and Michele) are crazy. It’s going to be a fun podcast.”

They'd better get on it, because none of these bitches will live long enough to re-watch all 14 seasons.

by Anonymousreply 56January 16, 2025 5:21 PM

I am surprised that these three maintained something like a friendship. You would think there was a lot of cattiness, pettiness and drama going on with three women in the main cast. Sure, I am stereotyping, but with the weight of the show's success putting pressure on all three, I'd expect some serious drama behind the scenes. I guess the show was extremely lucky that the three main women got along so well.

Come to think of it were there ever stories about one of the cast members being difficult?

by Anonymousreply 57January 16, 2025 5:46 PM

Poor Val.

by Anonymousreply 58January 16, 2025 5:53 PM

[quote]Come to think of it were there ever stories about one of the cast members being difficult?

Nicolette.

by Anonymousreply 59January 16, 2025 9:14 PM

I have not heard of her being difficult on KL. On Desperate Housewives, yes. But not on Knots Landing. What did she - allegedly - do?

by Anonymousreply 60January 16, 2025 10:27 PM

she stole my babies!

by Anonymousreply 61January 16, 2025 10:29 PM

Knots was known as a pretty collaborative set from what I understand, unlike the other 3 primetime soaps.

by Anonymousreply 62January 16, 2025 10:29 PM

R61 Actually the dingos ate them.

by Anonymousreply 63January 19, 2025 12:00 AM

Dream Season 15 of Knots: what would you have liked to have seen? My picks: Karen, Mack, Val, Gary, Abby, a new couple in the cul-de-sac. Paige and Greg could've taken a rest, and Claudia with them, but Anne and Nick were great fun so I would've kept them around. Some returning characters could've been interesting: Annie Fairgate from the first season; Richard and his sons with Laura; Ben Gibson coming back just as Val and Gary were getting to know each other after her kidnapping ordeal.

by Anonymousreply 64January 19, 2025 12:09 AM

Lilimae could return

by Anonymousreply 65January 19, 2025 3:42 AM

What about Michael Fairgate and his seedy portrayer, Pat Petersen? And they would gave had to kill off Eric (since Steve Shaw was killed in a car crash), which could give Michele some juicy scenes of grief.

And I would've given anything if they had corrected their horrible mistake of killing off Laura. They could have brought Connie McCashin back and reveal she didn't die.

by Anonymousreply 66January 19, 2025 5:32 AM

That should be "sexy" portrayed, not seedy!

by Anonymousreply 67January 19, 2025 5:33 AM

R67 - that’s funny - when you said “seedy” - I thought awe I think that Pat Peterson is adorable!

by Anonymousreply 68January 19, 2025 5:58 AM

Christ! I don't know how much more of Lilimae and her god awful singing I can take anymore.

by Anonymousreply 69January 20, 2025 12:49 AM

I hated that they stuck Lilimae with Al. And Aunt Virginia was a nuisance.

by Anonymousreply 70January 20, 2025 2:00 AM

It didn’t make sense for Lilimae to stay away after Jill tried to kill her and when Val was dealing with Danny. They should have demoted her to a recurring role to save money.

by Anonymousreply 71January 20, 2025 2:48 AM

It's a shame Julie Harris never came back. I would have loved seeing her try to run Jill over. Danny she would talk off a roof.

by Anonymousreply 72January 20, 2025 2:59 AM

[quote] It didn’t make sense for Lilimae to stay away after Jill tried to kill her and when Val was dealing with Danny.

And where was she on Val's funeral?

by Anonymousreply 73January 20, 2025 3:56 AM

She had a gig with the remaining Carter family members at the Iowa State Faire.

by Anonymousreply 74January 20, 2025 9:59 AM

I’m up to the episodes that deal with the aftermath of Joshua Rush’s fall off the building. They came dangerously close to ruining Lilimae’s character. She is a total loon to Cathy. Super creepy showing up to the TV station and making cringe suggestions. She’s gaslighting Cathy about a man who mentally and physically abused her. Of course Julie Harris played it to the hilt but it makes for uncomfortable viewing. Knots at its best!

by Anonymousreply 75January 22, 2025 11:26 AM

R75, has Harris butchered Amazing Grace at Joshua's funeral yet?

I'm up to the one where all the ladies are staying in the haunted house Laura wants to sell.

by Anonymousreply 76January 22, 2025 12:21 PM

That house just burned down R76. I hope that the three sisters are safe somewhere!

by Anonymousreply 77January 22, 2025 5:19 PM

The Three Sisters episode is airing on Primetime Soaps channel right now.

by Anonymousreply 78January 23, 2025 10:57 AM

Valene Ewing: Ghost Whisperer

by Anonymousreply 79January 23, 2025 11:53 AM

R78 - on Primetime Soaps Channel we are heading into a slew of episodes where “Ebbeh Cunningham” as Lillie Mae pronounces it is at her most wicked and Gary is his most weak.

by Anonymousreply 80January 23, 2025 12:44 PM

Time jump!

by Anonymousreply 81January 23, 2025 1:38 PM

it was weird that they got rid of Lilliemae. I watched this show with a lot of people and there wasn't a person I knew who watched it who didn't love her. She really elevated the show. Plus any reviews or writing about the show usually highlighted her. They should have ditched someone else. Mac would have been a good choice.

by Anonymousreply 82January 23, 2025 1:45 PM

Mac and his permed rug.

by Anonymousreply 83January 23, 2025 2:50 PM

They already killed Sid and had Mack bring new life and energy to Karen zzz

by Anonymousreply 84January 23, 2025 9:05 PM

My issue with Mack was Kevin Dobson, his co-stars were much better actors. Dobson seemed to confuse acting with yelling at times.

by Anonymousreply 85January 23, 2025 9:16 PM

Yes, but he was a hot daddy.

by Anonymousreply 86January 23, 2025 11:05 PM

Mac and Karen are on their first date on the episode airing now. They had pretty great chemistry.

by Anonymousreply 87January 23, 2025 11:22 PM

R82, I could not agree with you more.

by Anonymousreply 88January 24, 2025 2:28 AM

I just started on season 9 - the new opening credits are horrible! Ugh I hope they realize this and change them soon.

by Anonymousreply 89January 24, 2025 2:50 AM

The thing that was so bad was how they got rid of Lilimae. There are at least a 1,000 more dramatic ways they could have given her character a departure. Lilimae, Julie, and the fans deserved better. A whole lot better.

by Anonymousreply 90January 24, 2025 3:02 AM

Lilimae just leaving at least left the option to bring her back. Too bad it didn't happen.

by Anonymousreply 91January 24, 2025 12:01 PM

That storyline -Lilimae leaving with Al-didn’t make sense. I thought he was homeless, how did he get the money for a new RV?

And Lilimae was homeless when we met her. I always assumed she used Val’s money to pay for things-so what were they going to live on?

by Anonymousreply 92January 24, 2025 2:17 PM

Lilimae was a one woman crime wave.

by Anonymousreply 93January 24, 2025 2:33 PM

One thing that strikes me in this rewatch is what a unique character Laura is. She’s such a great foil to Greg, Abby, Karen, Gary, etc. Laura is not a typical female character- she’s droll, sarcastic, and no bullshit. She’s not a vixen and she’s not a romantic heroine. She’s really fun in retrospect.

by Anonymousreply 94January 24, 2025 8:29 PM

Maybe that's why they considered her the most dispensable of the four main characters. She wasn't really an archetype like Earth, Wind and Fire were. But yes, she was fun to watch. I remember her being a great foil to Ava Gardener (Paul's Galveston's wife, Greg's mother). Laura definitely held her own because she didn't give a fuck.

by Anonymousreply 95January 24, 2025 8:45 PM

There is the episode where Joshua’s strict preacher daddy comes to visit. He was played by Albert Salmi who was a very famous Broadway actor in the 1950s . He was he original Cowboy Bo on Broadway in Bus Stop. That was the part that Don Murray played in the movie version. ….. You will notice that when (I can’t think of the character’s name off the top of my head ) he leaves and he and Lilimae hug and get emotional. He tells her he had forgotten how special she was. I believe that she had told him that he had been the love of her life. Albert Salmi and Julie Harris actually had some “heat” or at least great chemistry in that scene. It makes me wonder if they had worked together in New York in the 1950s - if they had had a “thing.” I could see if after Josh died and she couldn’t deal with it THEY might have reunite and gone traveling. They could have been like an older Gary and Val and rediscovered their romance. I hated that she left with homeless Red Buttons. I think that the writers thought they would be cute and quirky. I think that was a crummy way to end her part. … JONATHAN = THAT was Josh’s Daddy’s name!!!

by Anonymousreply 96January 24, 2025 9:06 PM

They should have given her a long goodbye with Alzheimer's. A good murder mystery. SOMETHING. Not a homeless guy with a Winnebago.

by Anonymousreply 97January 24, 2025 9:13 PM

Lilimae's epic speed-bumping of Chip episode just started on Plex. "One Kind of Justice" season 5, episode 5.

by Anonymousreply 98January 24, 2025 10:58 PM

After Val returned in 1993, I think that Lilimae also came back to Knots Landing, driving Al's Winnebago but mercifully leaving the character of Al in Limbo. After she began noticing a musical talent in Bobby and Betsy (perhaps the twins inherited her flair with the autoharp), the three started a band called "Gooma and the Twins," quickly achieving a level of fame that made Val's head spin.

And Gary, you ask? Well, we don't think Abby let Gary get away a second time, do we? Even if Lilimae was driving that Winnebago (now a tour bus), and Gary and Abby and everyone else on Seaview Circle knew what she did to Chip....

by Anonymousreply 99January 26, 2025 4:54 AM

I think they had to find ways to solve the budget issues and Julie had to go quickly. It was an unfortunate situation, but something had to give.

by Anonymousreply 100January 26, 2025 4:57 AM

Before my time but I remember my mama watching it when I was younger (the theme music takes me back)

I was watching an episode from s6 according to the description. Joshua's (Baldwin) father comes to take him back home. Drama, drama, 80s over glossed lips with heavy blue eye-shadow Donna Mills and Lisa Hartman. Man, Alec Baldwin was FOINE. I mean... one of the plumpest asses I've ever seen on a white man. It was SHOCKING.

This photo doesn't do the justice it deserves.

Oh Christ... Ciji's first episode singing Journey's Open Arms.

Awful.

by Anonymousreply 102February 9, 2025 10:26 PM

Chip just appeared for the first time!

by Anonymousreply 103February 9, 2025 10:44 PM

My sisters loved that Ciji. They thought she was the best singer ever. They nearly left the show when they killed her or whatever her story arc was.

by Anonymousreply 104February 9, 2025 10:51 PM

I loved Ciji, too. I was a 13 yo gayling when she died. Shocking.

Chip was one of the most despicable characters ever, and was played to perfection by Michael Sabatino.

by Anonymousreply 105February 9, 2025 10:56 PM

Any time I think of Lilimae running him down I chuckle. Still, after all these years.

Which one of the producers was Lisa Hartman fucking to get these god awful extended singing sessions featured on the show?

by Anonymousreply 108February 9, 2025 11:34 PM

If you think Ciji is bad, wait till you hear Johnny Rourke (Peter Reckell) belt out a few tunes at Lotus Point.

I still think that Johnny was the real reason the dump closed.

by Anonymousreply 109February 11, 2025 9:47 PM

Is it true that Reckell’s accent was so bad that the story had to be retconned?

by Anonymousreply 110February 12, 2025 11:52 AM

I watched those episodes recently, R110 and it sure seemed that way. It sort of came out of nowhere "oh and I'm not really Irish." I couldn't believe he was around as long as he was.

by Anonymousreply 111February 13, 2025 1:26 AM

Thanks, R111 — completely agree.

by Anonymousreply 112February 13, 2025 1:33 AM

I couldn't stand Karen. She was a loud, pushy, self-righteous, busy body. I always enjoyed Abby putting Karen in her place.

by Anonymousreply 113February 13, 2025 2:25 AM

Everything Karen did came from love.

by Anonymousreply 114February 13, 2025 2:25 PM

I need to piss! NOW!

by Anonymousreply 115February 13, 2025 2:36 PM

The best scene with Karen was when Lilimae ran chip over. When Lil tells her to get out of the car Karen knows exactly what is going to happen and lets it happen.

by Anonymousreply 116February 13, 2025 3:03 PM

Buck never would have told Karen to get out of the car before running over Chip.

by Anonymousreply 117February 13, 2025 7:44 PM

Two other great scenes:

Eric slapping the dogshit out of asshole Diana while Karen, Abby and Olivia watch.

Abby (in an over the top gold gown) gets pissed after Olivia, Peter and Greg all threaten to tell Gary that Abby knew about the twin’s kidnapping, so she confesses all to everyone, while twisting the story to make herself the hero, and shutting down public speculation about the paternity of Betsy and Bobby in the process. I loved when Abby would make up a story on the fly like that.

Bad news, gang. In 14 days, KL will be leaving Prime. It was fun while it lasted.

by Anonymousreply 119February 16, 2025 2:53 PM

All seasons still on Plex.

by Anonymousreply 120February 16, 2025 3:38 PM

R120- but it was bliss to watch Knots without ad breaks.

by Anonymousreply 121February 16, 2025 3:45 PM

did you get to Val swallowing the pills yet?

by Anonymousreply 122February 16, 2025 3:48 PM

Is it staying on Discovery+? That's how I'm watching it.

by Anonymousreply 123February 16, 2025 4:15 PM

R122- I’m up to the beginning of season 8. Karen is kidnapped. Paige has appeared out of nowhere. And the Jean Hackney storyline is about to begin which I remember loving as a gayling.

by Anonymousreply 124February 16, 2025 5:03 PM

I wonder if they’re going to pull Falcon Crest too. They made it free again on Prime right after Knots came back. I have been enjoying watching Angela Channing cunt all over the Tuscany Valley again.

by Anonymousreply 125February 16, 2025 7:54 PM

Not to mention William Moses' incredible ass.

by Anonymousreply 126February 16, 2025 9:13 PM

Knots is going for sale only. Who the fuck would pay $$ to watch this shit???

by Anonymousreply 127February 16, 2025 10:08 PM

R127 , would you mind stepping off the curb?

by Anonymousreply 129February 17, 2025 1:14 AM

Damn - are they going to pull it off of Plex??

by Anonymousreply 130February 17, 2025 1:22 AM

The beginning of Season 8 is rough. Karen’s kidnapping is a dud of a storyline. Mack is once again a complete asshole to his stepsons in a time of crisis. I swear, he really is a prick stepfather. And Kevin Dobson and William Devane are shouting in nearly all their scenes, playing to the upper balcony. Abby is even boring! Peter sucks the life out of her.

by Anonymousreply 131February 17, 2025 4:49 PM

I would have sucked the life out of Peter.

by Anonymousreply 132February 17, 2025 4:53 PM

Peter Reckell??? I’d have sucked him, too.

by Anonymousreply 133February 17, 2025 7:12 PM

Are Laura & Ciji about to enter into a lesbian relationship?

by Anonymousreply 134February 20, 2025 2:08 PM

Ugh! Ciji singing Spider's New Romance.

Now Lilimae croaking out a tune on her electric harp!

by Anonymousreply 135February 20, 2025 2:52 PM

KL is already off Prime even though it was supposed to be available until March 1. It’s available on Discovery+. Annoyingly, they’ve removed the teasers from each episode which I always loved. Not as quality an experience as Prime.

by Anonymousreply 136February 22, 2025 10:33 PM

R134 Unfortunately, no. I say that because it certainly looked like that's where it was leading. and it would have been amazing for Knot's to have attempted to tackle such a juicy controversial storyline during that time period.

Then it just dropped.

Anyone here know if the producers were having serious discussions at that time regarding a lesbian storyline?

It was later tackled by the direct network Thursday, 10pm competition: LA Law. They teased, but then showed they had the guts to go thru with it.

by Anonymousreply 137February 22, 2025 11:45 PM

One of the writers/producers hangs out at the dog park in West Hollywood, on Sweetzer and sunset. I’ve heard him talk about the show many times, but I generally go to the dog park down the street now. I prefer the Astroturf the wood chips…

by Anonymousreply 138February 23, 2025 1:43 AM

I was about 10 years old when Knotts landing was originally airing. I didn’t see it then so I’m glad to have gotten a chance to watch most of the series, but I’m not all that heartbroken that it’s leaving the platforms I find accessible.

I’m glad I got to see it but it’s not like I’ll rewatch it anytime soon. Scarcity of supply definitely drives demand for your product.

by Anonymousreply 158March 2, 2025 9:11 PM

I was so relieved when I woke up this morning and found that Knots was back on from the beginning. I have been watching so much news that it has been giving me anxiety! Someone call me when we find out how Gene Hackman died - until then I’ll be chilling out with Sid and Gary and Abby at Knots Landing Motors. ………. PS I would LOVE to see our righteous Karen Fairgate square her shoulders and scold Trump at all of the Doging and treatment of Zelensky like only Karen can!!

God dayum!

Michele Lee is chewing the scenery all to hell worrying about Diana!

by Anonymousreply 165March 4, 2025 1:06 AM

Ohhhh! Diana!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 166March 4, 2025 1:36 AM

Years after Diana left, Michele Lee told Soap Opera Digest that she kept asking the producers to bring Diana back and have her fight with Paige. Over what-Greg Sumner?

Claudia Lonow would have made Nicollette Sheridan seem like Meryl Streep. Lonow’s “portrayal “ of Diana was comprised of shrieking and being a snide cunt to Karen.

by Anonymousreply 167March 4, 2025 2:44 AM

Oh puke!

Greg Sumner just made his first appearance.

by Anonymousreply 168March 4, 2025 3:14 AM

Karen is FUCKING NUTS!!!!

She is absolutely obsessed with Diana to the point of lunacy.

Season 5 is amazing! The show is firing on all cylinders now.

by Anonymousreply 169March 4, 2025 9:30 PM

Just a handful of episodes away from Ciji's murder in season 4 airing on Plex/FreeVee. Diana's kidneys are failing, Kenny gave Ginger's song to Ciji, Chip is the worm of all worms, Mac and Karen are on the outs, Gary is precariously close to figuring Abby out and hitting the bottle. So good.

by Anonymousreply 170March 4, 2025 11:10 PM

And here we are- Lilimae is about to mow Chip down like a dog in the street.

Greg & his daughter are really bringing down the show.

by Anonymousreply 175March 6, 2025 7:47 PM

Mary Frances 1 is better than MF 2.

MF 1 is sort of a pushy buttinsky like Karen. That’s why Eric should have knocked MF1 up and married her, to drive Karen nuts.

by Anonymousreply 176March 6, 2025 7:57 PM

Karen is in recovery for her addiction to escadine (sp?).

Is that even a real drug???

by Anonymousreply 177March 7, 2025 12:21 AM

yes. and the pills are rose colored.

by Anonymousreply 178March 7, 2025 1:44 AM

R176, Mary Frances #2 made me say something I never thought I would say: "Bring back Danielle Brisebois!"

by Anonymousreply 179March 7, 2025 1:51 AM

I grew to love every character brought on to Knot's, and the actors playing them, even Stacy Galina. I don't understand where this hatred comes from.

It's the fucking writers that ruined it. I can't recall the season, but the one which started with the murder of Linda Fairgate. Horrible!

by Anonymousreply 180March 7, 2025 2:56 AM

Someday I will name a cat “Susan Philby.”

by Anonymousreply 181March 7, 2025 3:30 AM

The issue with Stacy Galina was the writing for both Mary Frances and Kate.

Mary Frances was very different when she returned in 1990. In season 5, she lived with the Mackenzies and had a flirtation/romance with Eric, but she didn’t interact with him and barely interacted with Karen when she returned.

Until Ann Marcus took over the show, Kate was not fleshed out as a character. Why didn’t they try putting her with Michael after he left Linda?

by Anonymousreply 182March 7, 2025 3:41 AM

R182 She returned for one episode. To get killed off.

I’m watching season 8, and Ben having a dodgy espionage past comes out of nowhere. It isn’t in character at all. The Jean Hackney storyline doesn’t get good until Val becomes unglued. And then look out. Nothing better than JVA playing Valene on the ledge.

They just didn't know what to do with Doug Sheehan. He was a big get in soaps world at the time so they thought snatching him would be great for the show. It's like they forgot they had to write for him. I loved Doug but for the life of me I can't remember a single thing his character did. Except make facial reactions to the other characters crazy moments. He should have been Greg's brother. Just in looks alone it was a good idea. Then there could have been a JR/Bobby type thing going.

by Anonymousreply 199March 8, 2025 2:28 PM

I have been watching Knots Landing on an ongoing loop since this summer. Maybe I didn’t notice this earlier but in recent re-watches Ben was not good for Val in a lot of ways. Why would he want take a woman over 30 well into pregnancy to rough it in South America? When she was down that Gary remarried he was crummy - they hadn’t slept together yet! She had to be muted with him because he was so lumpy and stern every time that Gary was around. Then they get married and have a good life and he suddenly goes middle aged crazy and has an affair with Cathy. He was always so mopey and dopey. He HAD to be the naysayer about the babies being alive. He could have been a much lighter character. He was a nice guy but by the time he had the affair with Cathy and the awful jean Hackney storyline. Ugh. …. Funny - early in his character when Lilimae was in the sanatorium he be mentioned that his father had a nervous breakdown. It would have been interesting if the had a call back to that when he kept “seeing” Jean.

by Anonymousreply 200March 8, 2025 2:52 PM

Another dispatch from the season 8 rewatch- I forgot how excruciatingly dull the flashback scenes are with young Mack, Anne, Greg, etc. Way to interrupt Abby locking herself and Olivia in the house! Now that was compelling television!!!

by Anonymousreply 201March 8, 2025 3:22 PM

I loved it when Abby's little druggie would piss her off.

by Anonymousreply 202March 8, 2025 3:24 PM

Ben was okay but he certainly was no Danny Waleska!

by Anonymousreply 203March 8, 2025 4:52 PM

William Devane’s son has his dad’s mannerisms down cold in the flashbacks . ….. Karen’s kidnapping could have been a great story. They didn’t tie everybody together like they did in Ciji’s murder or Gary’s fake death. It just looks kind of cheap. ……. ok I am NOT body shaming. Once Karen gets back from the kidnapping Michele Lee puts on weight . She dresses sort of matronly and boxy for the rest of the season. The first Anne season. I wonder if she was on some medication. She dropped the weight later because she was all slim and trim again in time for her wonderful leather mini skirt scene with Manny and Abby.

by Anonymousreply 204March 8, 2025 5:27 PM

I loved the scenes with Michelle Phillips and Kevin Dobson, especially when they played "Dedicated to the One I Love". (is there anybody here watching who is so young they don't get the reference?)

I thought Michelle was a great addition. And I was very skeptical at first because who knew she could act?

by Anonymousreply 205March 8, 2025 7:26 PM

R205, I agree with you 100%!

I loved the “tract house, kiss the cook apron” stuff.

I also loved when Mack gets disgusted about Seaview Circle (earlier, unrelated to Anne, I believe) and mutters to himself something like, “Cul-de-sac is French for dead end.”

by Anonymousreply 206March 9, 2025 3:59 PM

We traded Ben Gibson and Peter Hollister for Red Buttons in one swoop. Or “It is 9pm - Do you know where Ben Gibson is?”

by Anonymousreply 207March 9, 2025 4:30 PM

Lilimae's been outed as a lyin' bitch!

Val knows Joshua is her son!

by Anonymousreply 208March 9, 2025 4:42 PM

So Knots Landing Motors just falls to the wayside now that Karen is working at Lotus Point?

What happened to that fuel Gary & Abby were developing back in season 2?

by Anonymousreply 209March 9, 2025 6:15 PM

I think Eric brokered the sale of KL Motors and then risked poisoning death working for his mom at Lotus Point.

by Anonymousreply 210March 9, 2025 6:24 PM

Correct r210, and they would casually mention it through the years-Paige got her first car from Knots Landing Motors, and Harold worked there when he married Olivia.

by Anonymousreply 211March 9, 2025 6:30 PM

That confused me about Knots Landing Motors - Karen had the big scene with Mac that she did not want to sell it. THEN Eric starts working at Lotus Point. THEN z when Ben thinks that Jean Hackney’s people have tried to drive Val off of the road - they took her car some other place to be checked out. BUT when Mac And Karen were trying to prove that Gary didn’t kill Jill - Harold pulls up in a car the same make as Gary’s - Courtesy of Knots Landing Motors. …….. After Gary and Abby went slutting around that night at the beach (I can FEEL it! I can FEEL it!) it was 100% Abby/Gary affair and no more Pete and his special gas.

by Anonymousreply 212March 9, 2025 6:39 PM

Everyone agreed that as the 80s prime time soaps achieved dominance and were all about glitz, greed and glamour, an auto shop just wasn’t the vibe. They were smart to ditch it. Donna Mills herself said she told producers they needed to get Abby out of the garage. Mission accomplished.

by Anonymousreply 213March 9, 2025 6:45 PM

The dealership they used for Knots Landing Motors was so grimy and downmarket. Couldn’t they have found one that was a little nicer to use?

by Anonymousreply 214March 9, 2025 6:49 PM

Season 6 is losing me.

I can't stand Greg Sumner, his stupid campaign or that sad sap wife of his. Wasn't Mary Frances bad enough???

And Greg only becomes more prominent a character, fucking his friends daughters, etc...

by Anonymousreply 215March 9, 2025 7:10 PM

The biggest reason I liked Greg was that I really like William Devane.

by Anonymousreply 216March 9, 2025 8:21 PM

R215- I completely agree that the powers that be and way overkill with Greg in subsequent seasons. They were enraptured by Devane’s performance. I thought Greg was like garlic- a little went a long way. He never should’ve been the main character. Same with Paige.

by Anonymousreply 217March 9, 2025 8:25 PM

Ooh Laura's funeral is about to start. This is a good episode.

by Anonymousreply 218March 9, 2025 11:57 PM

[quote]They were enraptured by Devane’s performance.

He's playing a 2nd rate Kennedy. That is all. Aside from Val & Joshua, all the other characters' stories are now revolving around him. It is beginning to become a chore to watch.

by Anonymousreply 219March 10, 2025 12:22 AM

I can’t handle Joan Van Arks terrible mullet. That said I love it when Jill slams her purse with Peter’s ashes into Paige’s back at the funeral!

by Anonymousreply 220March 10, 2025 1:35 AM

OOOO Val's mullet. Horrible.

by Anonymousreply 221March 10, 2025 1:45 AM

The biggest mistake the writers made was getting rid of Lotus Point. Lotus Point gave Gary and Karen a reason to interact with Greg and his stories.

When they dumped Lotus Point, it felt like there were two shows-one with the older, cul de sac characters (Karen/Mack/Gary/Val/The Willaimses); the other with Paige, Greg and the rest of the Sumner Group. By Season 12, it felt like Gary and Val were on an island.

If they wanted to get rid of Lotus Point, they needed to find a way to get Karen and Gary working at the Sumner Group. Have Greg turn the Sumner Foundation over to Karen to run; make Gary a major shareholder of the Sumner Group so he has to battle Greg; make Frank Greg’s head of security-they needed to tie the characters together.

by Anonymousreply 222March 10, 2025 1:57 AM

I thought the way they segued to Lotus Point was brilliant - I too wish it had been kept as the focus.

by Anonymousreply 223March 10, 2025 3:17 AM

I can’t swallow pills without water!!!!

by Anonymousreply 224March 10, 2025 8:24 PM

Poor Val isn't responsible for the way she feels. The way she acts. The way she is. You can't blame poor Val because... she's poor Val.

by Anonymousreply 226March 11, 2025 8:38 PM

After a few very low points--the brain virus/village idiot, teaching the waitress to read (yawn)--Val got one last good but truncated storyline, when she was hired to write Sumner's biography. It tied all the major players together. And Van Ark and Devane had at least one very interesting scene together when he blew cigar smoke in her face and she stood up to him, holding her own and being very calm and smart about it, and far from the Poor Val we'd been seeing for years. I wish they had mixed their characters more--not romantically.

by Anonymousreply 227March 12, 2025 4:07 AM

Ann Marcus did the “Val writes Greg’s biography” storyline. She’s took the reins in the second half of season 13 and the final season. It’s rare for a long running show to bounce back from a creative slump, but Knots did.

Marcus is truly underrated when it comes to soaps: co-creator of Mary Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman; she wrote Knots in season 3 and created the Val/Gary/Abby triangle; she wrote Falcon Crest (creating Terry) and wrote DAYS, GH and Search for Tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 228March 12, 2025 4:16 AM

I know that plex is clunky but I still love the marathons. I’m bummed that they are back on Falcon Crest today.

by Anonymousreply 235March 15, 2025 6:27 PM

I always hated how ridiculously weak Abby always was with Olivia. Olivia was always in trouble and mouthing off to her and Abby just took it and never punished her. Olivia was a child who needed a parent who would finally give them a good slap to the mouth. I mean, even after she got into her car crash with Lilimae, they let her keep her car etc. Nope.

I get so frustrated with their soft parenting. That doesn’t work with all kids. Some will use and abuse you.

And where the fuck is Brian? Abby mentions him from time to time but I swear we haven’t physically seen him in like 2 or 3 seasons. It’s always just Olivia.

by Anonymousreply 236March 19, 2025 1:16 PM

Idk how anyone could dislike Karen. Shes such a kind, loving and generous person. Everything she does is with the best interest of everyone.

by Anonymousreply 241March 19, 2025 6:36 PM

Oh, Brian is finally seen again for the first time in like 3 years. It only took more than halfway through season 8 for him to be seen again.

But now he’s played by BAG, who may be the cutest kid I’ve ever seen.

by Anonymousreply 242March 19, 2025 6:37 PM

The Abby/Olivia conflicts were great melodrama. Olivia went out of her way to piss Abby off. And it was to show Abby's human side.

by Anonymousreply 243March 19, 2025 6:42 PM

Olivia had Abby’s number, going back to their days when they lived on the cul de sac and Abby was the bookkeeper for Knots Landing Motors. And it drove Abby crazy that Olivia knew her mother was sneaky and manipulative.

Olivia was the only person whose approval mattered to Abby, and she did not give it to her.

by Anonymousreply 244March 19, 2025 6:49 PM

I don’t think Abby cared for Olivia’s approval. Abby used her daughter and as her daughter grew older she realized this fact about her mother.

Abby and Olivia’s drug storyline wasn’t melodrama. It was some of the best depiction of teenage drug addiction, and this was in the 80s. Most shows after this didn’t depict it nearly this well.

by Anonymousreply 245March 19, 2025 7:01 PM

The issue was how Abby always believed Olivia every fucking time Olivia would “promise” to stop doing drugs. The girl lied 50 million times and Abby would still keep giving her the benefit of the doubt. It got ridiculous. Even after Abby finally put her foot down and locked Olivia in the house, she catches Olivia doing drugs in the bathroom and boom, the next day Olivia promises her again she won’t do drugs anymore and Abby believes it?

Same shit with Mac and Paige. It was so annoying after a while.

But sadly some parents are like that.

by Anonymousreply 246March 19, 2025 7:13 PM

Olivia should've just said no to drugs!

by Anonymousreply 247March 19, 2025 7:15 PM

Also, someone upthread said Paige just appears out of nowhere in season 8 and that’s false. They must have not watched season 7 because we are introduced to Paige at the very end of season 7, leading into 8 where she’s one of the big storylines.

by Anonymousreply 248March 19, 2025 7:18 PM

The KL writers liked surly, backtalking daughters.

by Anonymousreply 249March 19, 2025 7:19 PM

Did Greg ever get around to fucking Olivia?

by Anonymousreply 250March 19, 2025 9:44 PM

No comments about Marsha played by Marcia Solomon? She’s hiding in plain sight at both Knots Landing Motors and Lotus Point. And she had that slight speech impediment.

I remember the scene at KL Motors when she pokes her head into the office and asks, “Kawen, can I go to lunch now?” And Karen screams, “No!!!!”

by Anonymousreply 251March 19, 2025 10:23 PM

I loved Marsha r251. She always looked trashy, like she would be the secretary at a car dealership.

by Anonymousreply 252March 19, 2025 10:26 PM

What the did to Ben in season 8 should be illegal. They destroyed that character

by Anonymousreply 253March 20, 2025 2:34 AM

In its 13th season, the show got so bad that they temporarily shut down production. There had been a “brain drain” that season when staff members left to create the acclaimed drama “Home Front”. I’m surprised that CBS didn’t just cancel it at that point.

by Anonymousreply 254March 20, 2025 5:23 PM

CBS was in such a bad state ratings wise in 1991-92 (everything besides their Sunday/Monday lineups were tanking) that they probably couldn’t afford to lose Knots Landing, which was midpack in the ratings.

by Anonymousreply 258March 24, 2025 2:01 AM

Connie makes me moist - down there.

by Anonymousreply 259March 24, 2025 9:37 AM

Omg I’m fucking HATING Frank and Patricia, the new black couple who moved in the neighborhood

by Anonymousreply 260March 25, 2025 11:46 PM

R260- their kickoff storyline was really boring. I did enjoy Frank being the first to believe Val after Jill’s attempted murder. I feel like he came into his own at that time but it wasn’t really sustainable.

by Anonymousreply 261March 26, 2025 1:41 AM

They killed off Pat after the Gary/Pat affair story was nixed.

Cowards.

by Anonymousreply 262March 26, 2025 1:49 AM

When I was ten, I came home and he started kicking me in the stomach and I didn't know why.

by Anonymousreply 263March 26, 2025 1:56 AM

I agree, R258. I can even picture how she’d sound while counseling people and everything.

She was pretty lowkey about doing too much KL promotion for many years as she didn’t want it to interfere with her career or her clients to know much about it. (Her professional name is Weisman.) It probably helped that she was (is still?) in Newton, Massachusetts for so long, far away from LA.

She was at the TVLand Awards when they honored the show, they even announced her as being at the table but she was completely edited out.

by Anonymousreply 264March 26, 2025 1:56 AM

For reasons which are know to her.

by Anonymousreply 265March 26, 2025 1:59 AM

Karen should have held a mustache waxing party to welcome the new hairy tween next door to the cul-de-sac.

by Anonymousreply 266March 26, 2025 3:46 PM

Leave poor Jonelle/Julie alone, R266. Witness-protection program=loss of friends/unable to communicate with other members of a family. Later she had to lose a spelling bee on purpose. After her mother's death, she was nearly assaulted by Val's rapist husband. She had a minute of happiness with Jason, but then she got shuffled off to relatives (I guess the witness-protection thing wasn't as big of a deal after Pat's death).

by Anonymousreply 267March 26, 2025 7:01 PM

Loving the Harold and Olivia storyline! I’m hope he isn’t only in these few episodes of season 9 and continues into 10.

by Anonymousreply 268March 26, 2025 7:09 PM

That still doesn't excuse the mustache R267! 😀

by Anonymousreply 269March 26, 2025 7:31 PM

by Anonymousreply 273March 28, 2025 9:40 PM

Season 10 started off terrible closing off that stupid Mexico plot, but the Jill storyline and Greg wanting his daughter back storyline has been GREAT. Every episode has been amazing

by Anonymousreply 274March 28, 2025 9:42 PM

Loving Aunt Ginny. Betsy Palmer is such an interesting actress to watch. Very eccentric and kinda creepy despite not meaning to be and with a lot of presence.

However, Everytime I see her I think of Jason’s mom.

by Anonymousreply 275March 29, 2025 1:51 AM

Aunt Ginny was there to fill the void of Lilimae’s absence. The showrunners realized the character of Val is the type who likes to have a maternal figure around, and Lilimae’s absence was felt after they fired Julie Harris in season 9 due to her being too expensive to keep on board.

During season 10 they did reach out to Julie Harris and asked her to return as a recurring character instead of a main character (like she started as) with a huge pay cut and she basically told them to fuck off. That was what birthed Aunt Ginny. A very different character who could still play the maternal role in Val’s life.

by Anonymousreply 276March 29, 2025 1:55 AM

Alternate Knots Landing: Aunt Ginny killed Jill.

by Anonymousreply 277March 29, 2025 6:26 PM

Abby is back on the cul de sac today on Plex Prime Time Soaps. She has her lion’s mane hairdo and when Richard isn’t rubbing baby oil on her back she is wearing short - shorts and high heels. I love it when she jams her hands in her pockets and tosses her hair back and struts down the street.

by Anonymousreply 278March 29, 2025 7:04 PM

Every time I think of Betsy I think of how awful she was on IGAS

by Anonymousreply 279March 29, 2025 7:35 PM

The ‘Dallas’ revival that happened a few years ago was great. Well, the first two seasons were. Season 3 was terrible. No wonder the ratings plummeted and it got canceled.

I loved the episode where they send off JR (because Larry Hagman died) and Gary, Val and Lucy return. Sue Ellen and Val always had a bad history. I would have loved for the show to have brought Val around permanently for season 3 and had their toxic relationship play out, but instead the writers made season 3 about Mexican cartels and it got canceled.

Unpopular opinion, Eric was hotter than Michael when they got older. Michael had the cuter face but as a whole Eric did it for me more.

by Anonymousreply 281March 31, 2025 8:25 PM

Eric was sexier than Michael, once he cut his hair around season 6. He also had a gentleness that similar to Sid, while Michael inherited Diana Nd Karen’s tendency to shriek.

by Anonymousreply 282March 31, 2025 8:55 PM

Diana and Michael take after mom (personality based) and Eric takes after dad.

Eric was a good guy and handsome. Michael was annoying and immature even up to the end. But he was a cute blonde guy who wore great sweaters.

by Anonymousreply 283March 31, 2025 8:58 PM

The writers should've made Michael or Brian gay. I find it hard to believe that Karen and Abby didn't produce a gay boy.

by Anonymousreply 284March 31, 2025 9:18 PM

Ummm many people don’t have gay sons

by Anonymousreply 285March 31, 2025 9:20 PM

A lot of overbearing, obnoxious mothers make gay sons.

by Anonymousreply 286March 31, 2025 9:21 PM

And a lot of them still have straight sons too.

Karen wasn’t overbearing and they had a close and healthy relationship with both dad and then Mack.

by Anonymousreply 287March 31, 2025 9:26 PM

[quote]Sue Ellen and Val always had a bad history.

Did they?

I never really remember them interacting much.

by Anonymousreply 288March 31, 2025 9:32 PM

Karen would have been the PFLAG mom from hell if one of her kids were gay. She’d show up at their apartment with condoms and safe sex lectures.

Sue Ellen and Val didn’t really interact at all on Dallas. Like JR, sh didn’t attend Gary and Val’s wedding before they left for Knots Landing. She may have made a snide comment or two when Val and Gary briefly moved back to Southfork, since she was getting along with JR at the time, and she was with Lucy, Val, Ellie and Pam when Lucy was getting ready for her wedding to Mitch-that was Val’s last appearance on the original show.

Sue Ellen and Lucy, however, had a contentious relationship. I always thought Lucy should have been JR’s daughter by a dead first wife, and Sue Ellen was her stepmother. That would have added more layers to the relationships between Pam and Sue Ellen, as well as Lucy’s relationship with JR and Sue Ellen.

Val could have left town and been in hiding with a son by Gary-this would have made JR’s fear of Gary and Val make more sense, since they would have had the first male Ewing heir.

by Anonymousreply 289March 31, 2025 10:07 PM

Val and Gary came back for the series finale of Dallas and then for the revival. They filmed more scenes for the revival but they got canned when Hagman died and everything had to be rewritten and shot, tossing the storyline away.

by Anonymousreply 290March 31, 2025 10:56 PM

Alec Baldwin's hot bubble butt in those tight khakis and chinos was a sight to behold.

by Anonymousreply 291March 31, 2025 11:00 PM

Alec was always very handsome and he stood out. I’m not at all shocked he was the shows big breakout star 💫

by Anonymousreply 292March 31, 2025 11:17 PM

R289 is correct. Sue Ellen and Val never really interacted, which can give the idea they didn’t like one another. But J.R. was who treated Val like “less than”.

In the original script that brings Val and Gary back in the revival, Gary is visiting, Sue Ellen schemes and gets Val to come back, JR is a dick to her as usual, and Val finally has the guts and there is a huge confrontation between her and JR. Sadly Larry Hagman died so that never came to be.

by Anonymousreply 293March 31, 2025 11:59 PM

Oh, I hate the way they closed off the Herald character.

We saw Harold wanting to change and be a good guy and he left his life of crime behind (which wasn’t even a choice he made, he was pretty much born into that life) and he was willing to do anything for Olivia. The only reason he ended up in debt was because he was so desperate to win a big amount of money at once to impress Olivia, who he was afraid he was going to lose. Out of nowhere he steals her $15k and moves to Miami?

That pissed me off so much.

by Anonymousreply 294April 3, 2025 7:08 AM

Hey everybody! The podcast is out!! It is called “We’re KNOT Done Yet!” It was fun. Michele Lee talked about the leather skirt scene, Donna talked about Don’t Call me Cookie and Joan talked about Verna Ellers. Michele Lee sounds a bit like Rose Marie these days! Anyway - go listen - it’s fun!

by Anonymousreply 297April 4, 2025 2:53 AM

Abby in heels and tasteful Chico's ensemble burying Peter's lifeless body in the Lotus Point playground is iconic.

by Anonymousreply 298April 4, 2025 10:01 PM

Susan is so certain she can vanquish Karen. Karen can't be defeated. This is a recurring theme in the series. But she needed good foils, Karen.

by Anonymousreply 299April 4, 2025 11:08 PM

R298, I always loved that outfit…

by Anonymousreply 300April 4, 2025 11:22 PM

R297, I just listened to the podcast. It’s a disaster — and I loved every minute of it.

by Anonymousreply 301April 4, 2025 11:22 PM

This is a disaster. They just keep repeating the opening over and over.

by Anonymousreply 302April 4, 2025 11:33 PM

I can’t get over how old Michele Lee sounds.

by Anonymousreply 303April 4, 2025 11:50 PM

Karen was an annoying busybody!

by Anonymousreply 304April 5, 2025 3:05 AM

I love when Abby dumped Peter’s car at the airport, then put a scarf and sunglasses on and took a late night bus back to Lotus Point. She looked fabulous, even though she spent the whole day dragging and burying a 200 lb body.

by Anonymousreply 305April 5, 2025 3:33 AM

Murder is no excuse to go out of the house without your lipstick on.

by Anonymousreply 306April 5, 2025 3:46 AM

This was really Knots at its height. How they created the story about mother and daughter both believing that the other one killed the man - it was masterfully constructed. And it created lots of fodder for follow-up stories. I think it all ended eventually with Jill stealing the urn.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 307April 5, 2025 4:57 AM

Still doesn't beat the pills. The only TV scene better, and I mean all tv not just soaps, was the Diana Taylor murder on GH. Jill was terrifying. The cherry on the cake was the old lady "I heard everything you said" or something like that.

by Anonymousreply 308April 5, 2025 3:00 PM

I’m up to The Gift of Life which is such a great showcase for Constance McCashin and William Devane. Laura’s inoperable brain tumor is truly devastating. She was such a stellar supporting character. Greg is so layered in this episode. He can’t face the bleak prognosis so he acts out in a way that Laura forgives because she’s always loved him, warts and all. And then you have a moment of comic relief with Laura and Abby’s goodbye. Knots at its very best.

by Anonymousreply 309April 7, 2025 10:08 PM

I started listening to the KL episodes of a podcast called Soap Lore.

The podcaster was born in the 1980s (early 80s, I think) and watches prime time soaps with no knowledge/reference of them — pretty fun.

by Anonymousreply 310April 7, 2025 11:34 PM

I don't get all of the love for Karen. I thought she was awful --- a nosy, loud, self-righteous woman who mauled anyone within 100 miles who didn't share her values and opinions. When they become adults, her own children moved out of state just to get away from her. Horrible, over-rated character.

I think some of this is due to Lee. In all of the reunions, Lee practically hogs the entire thing, yapping away while people like Ted Shackleford, William Devane and Donna Mills barely get to say three words.

IMO, you could never bring back Knots Landing because the egos of Lee and van Ark wouldn't let the next generation of characters be the focus; these two, 80-year old broads would demand the entire thing revolve around them. It would be dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 311April 8, 2025 2:08 AM

I like Karen.

I preferred Eric to Michael. Michael was “cuter” but Eric was the guy you wanna marry.

Both boys were good guys though. Michael was just annoying and spoiled compared to Eric.

by Anonymousreply 314April 9, 2025 12:54 PM

The Fairgate kids were all pretty real. Yea, Diana was obnoxious but I had a sister just like her. I am referring to the pre-Chip Diana- the one who ran around yelling, “motherrrr!”

by Anonymousreply 315April 9, 2025 2:02 PM

The fun thing about Claudia Lonow was that she brought some salt and crazy to Diana instead of being a bland ingenue (Hi Stacey Galina!) . Until Mack came you had high strung Karen and Diana vs mellow soft spoken Sid, Eric, Michael and Uncle Joe. She had an “artistic” temperament.

by Anonymousreply 316April 9, 2025 2:51 PM

The Knots writers loved having a teenaged girl cunt all over their mother.

Karen didn’t like any of her children’s romantic interests and acted like a domineering asshole with the three of them. That’s what made Linda Fairgate satisfying, she stood up to Karen and let her know she was controlling.

Ok - has NO ONE mentioned the odd habit that Donna Mills has of jamming her hands in her pockets and walking quickly? She looks fantastic doing it -:especially when she tosses her head back and shakes her hair. I wonder if that is an “Abby” mannerism or a Donna Mills mannerism. Probably both.

[quote]R57 Come to think of it were there ever stories about one of the cast members being difficult?

It has kind of an ALL ABOUT EVE vibe.

R323 you posted a link of a photo and not one about the quote you claim? How odd

by Anonymousreply 324April 14, 2025 2:47 PM

Joan Van Ark had to have been rattled by Sheridan, who was half her age and taking over more of the show each season.

by Anonymousreply 325April 14, 2025 2:54 PM

Joan was rattled L O N G before Sheridan.

by Anonymousreply 326April 14, 2025 2:57 PM

On the latest episode of We’re Knot Done Yet, Donna discusses an early on set fight she had with Michele. Michele owned up to being too controlling and Director-y and Donna stormed off the set as a result. They discussed how this early fight and working thru it strengthened their relationship and they were good to go after that. Joan and Michele are very daffy on this show and Donna seems super sharp and normal. She’s definitely the “straight one” in the trio.

by Anonymousreply 327April 14, 2025 3:02 PM

Well straight in a certain way.

by Anonymousreply 328April 14, 2025 3:12 PM

[quote]r324 you posted a link of a photo and not one about the quote you claim? How odd.

The post involves Nicolette Sheridan on the show, and there’s a photo of her from the show attached to it.

I’m sorry this confuses you. Have you struck your head?

by Anonymousreply 329April 14, 2025 3:32 PM

R321,

I’ve always noticed and loved that bit of business. I always assumed Donna created it as an Abby-ism, but it easily could be a Donna-ism.

by Anonymousreply 330April 14, 2025 4:09 PM

In my Prime rewatch, I’m finally up to Noises Everywhere, the two part episode where the core cast convenes to lament Laura’s death. This is, hands down, the high watermark of the series. It’s an organic reason for the principals to interact which is deeply satisfying as they were siloed quite a bit as the series went on. (For example, arch rivals Abby and Valene infrequently shared scenes after season 3). It’s all character driven and the writing is stellar. I can’t imagine Dynasty or Dallas even attempting to do anything like this.

by Anonymousreply 331April 14, 2025 5:13 PM

331, apparently a lot of the dialogue was improvised by the cast.

by Anonymousreply 332April 14, 2025 7:50 PM

R332- yes, they all spent a weekend together at David Jacobs’s home and they weren’t allowed to break character. It was an improv exercise. The interactions and material from that weekend generated what was ultimately scripted and shot. I remember a feature in TV Guide about this and it was all timed to Knots’s 200th episode.

by Anonymousreply 333April 14, 2025 8:17 PM

R329 post the quote you claimed was said. We know what Sheridan looked like. The photo was useless.

by Anonymousreply 334April 14, 2025 8:26 PM

R331 disagree. The episode was done in a cheap manner. What would have made the episode truly great was having ALL the OG cast back for her funeral. Sid is dead but Kenny and Ginger aren’t.

Also, Lilimae would NEVER have missed the funeral.

Abby wasn’t an OG. She joined season 2. Her being shoveled in with the OGs all the time was annoying, as was Mack.

by Anonymousreply 335April 14, 2025 8:28 PM

R325 doubt it. Van Ark was already in her mid-late 30s when the show started. By the time Sheridan joined she was in her 40s as were all the women who were the faces of the show. I’m sure they knew eventually new young faces would have to be added to keep the show going. You can not only have people in their 40s and 50s on a show like this. You need to mix young blood in too, which is why we got Paige, more Michael, more Olivia and eventually completely new characters like Linda, Kate , Alex, Tom Ryan and Vanessa

by Anonymousreply 336April 14, 2025 8:31 PM

[quote] Donna Mills said that Nicollette Sheridan used to come by when she wasn't working and watch Mills shoot her scenes. Mills found it odd.

Not sure why Mills would find that odd. I would take it as a compliment if a younger actor watched my work to learn.

by Anonymousreply 338April 14, 2025 8:36 PM

by Anonymousreply 340April 14, 2025 8:41 PM

I hated that Laura was killed off but her death had repercussions all the way until the final season and the reunion movie.

by Anonymousreply 341April 14, 2025 10:24 PM

Laura was quite possibly my favorite character.

by Anonymousreply 342April 14, 2025 10:27 PM

I didn’t care that she died off. She barely contributed anything to the show for years by that point and then boom they gave her a baby to make her death more tragic.

Laura died because Constance wanted the character to be killed off. She asked them to do it when they fired her.

by Anonymousreply 343April 14, 2025 10:30 PM

Kenny and Ginger were never mentioned again after they left, it made sense that they would not have attended the funeral.

On the other hand, Cathy Geary was close to Laura-she lived with her and helped with Laura’s kids, and Laura stood up for her against Joshua. She should have been at the funeral. Since Ben was missing at the time, and Cathy had an affair with Ben, I could see Val cornering Cathy and demanding to know where Ben was.

by Anonymousreply 344April 14, 2025 10:31 PM

[quote]R338 I’m trying to find that quote and can’t find it anywhere. Pretty sure that poster just made it up. Hence him not providing a source.

It was an interview posted on YouTube. I seem to remember it being like a zoom call featuring the three lead women, with them all in different locations, but I don’t see it now.

I just remember that information sticking with me - but I don’t remember the video that well. Maybe it wasn’t in a zoom format, but that’s what’s coming to mind.

Hope that helps!

by Anonymousreply 345April 14, 2025 10:34 PM

R344 even more reason it’s good Cathy wasn’t there.

Cathy was also never mentioned again when she was gone.

Ginger and Kenny not being mentioned again means nothing. Richard was hardly mentioned minus very few times when he left and he was the father of Laura’s kids. They could have shown up. It would have been a pleasant shock to everyone.

by Anonymousreply 346April 14, 2025 10:35 PM

Maybe it was in this?

by Anonymousreply 347April 14, 2025 10:36 PM

For R343 :

McCashin's character was written-out of the show due to cost-cutting measures along with fellow actress Julie Harris. McCashin explained to The Boston Globe in 2009 stating, "I was very hurt the way I was let go for financial reasons. I wish they'd handled my demise better".

The show always moved on from characters quickly. Ben and Laura were special cases, but even characters like Peter Hollister, who ended up dead, were hardly mentioned again. Once it’s revealed who was actually at fault for his death you never hear about him again, and he was the brother of Jill.

Once Jill is dead and the saga is over you don’t hear about her again.

Linda is murdered, then the next couple of episodes she’s mentioned then everyone forgets all about it and she’s never mentioned again.

Some characters just vanish, like Benny in season 13. He’s there a few episodes and then you never see him again.

by Anonymousreply 349April 14, 2025 10:40 PM

R348 cool. She was hurt. But she was the one who told them to kill off Laura. She just didn’t like how it was done.

by Anonymousreply 350April 14, 2025 10:41 PM

Ginger did reappear (maybe in the reunion movie) and disclosed that she left Kenny.

Diana, everyone’s favorite whipping girl, wasn’t mentioned for a long time but resurfaced toward the end.

by Anonymousreply 351April 14, 2025 10:45 PM

Yes, Diana appears in 3 episodes of the final season, when Karen and Mack begin to have marital problems so Karen goes to NY to visit Diana. And she looked terrific.

by Anonymousreply 352April 14, 2025 10:47 PM

Laura and Cathy ate each other’s snatches!

by Anonymousreply 353April 14, 2025 10:58 PM

R353 = Richard

The scene where he throws CiJi out by her hair because he’s certain his wife is in this lesbian affair cracks me up

by Anonymousreply 354April 14, 2025 11:02 PM

Cathy was brought up after she left at the beginning of season 8 (the season prior to Laura’s death), since at the beginning of the season Val is still reeling from learning of Ben and Laura’s affair. When the Jean Hackney story began, Jean made hang up calls to Val’s house, and Val asked Ben if he thought it was Cathy.

Besides Greg and Richard; her sparring with Abby; and her friendship with Karen and Val, Laura’s most important relationship was with Ciji/Cathy. At the minimum, a big wreath could have shown up at Greg’s house from Cathy.

In contrast, the Wards had not appeared onscreen since season 4 and hadn’t been mentioned since. Ginger did appear in the reunion movie and mentioned divorcing Kenny because he was unfaithful. Val begins to make a comment about other affairs (probably referring to Kenny’s affair with Sid’s daughter Annie), but stops talking when she realizes Ginger doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

Richard was mentioned frequently after he left, since he abandoned Laura and the kids, and Laura had no idea where he was for several years. This impacted the marriage of Laura and Greg, as the divorce was held up by that.

Diana was frequently mentioned over the years after she left, by Karen-for example, she talks to Abby right before Peter’s death about Abby and Olivia’s relationship, and cites the mistakes she made with Diana, urging Abby not to repeat those mistakes. Abby tells her she’s right but out of line.

by Anonymousreply 355April 14, 2025 11:03 PM

R355 being mentioned once or twice over the course of years after leaving isn’t something to act big about.

by Anonymousreply 356April 14, 2025 11:05 PM

R355 the point is THE WARDS WERE OG’S.

The episode mentioned upthread was when they were all sitting around talking and arguing after Laura died. That episode is all the OGs plus Mack and Greg. Abby came in season 2 but is considered an OG. Richard was rightfully back. The Ward’s showing up would have been a full circle moment since the episode reflects so heavily on those early seasons.

Cathy is not an OG and wasn’t even Hartman’s original character.

by Anonymousreply 357April 14, 2025 11:08 PM

Ginger could've brought the waterworks, singing an ode to the abiding love Laura had for Ciji/Cathy.

R358 LOL that would actually be hysterical.

But I love that clip. Season 4 was SO GOOD. Seasons 3 and 4 are probably my favorite seasons, and then 12.

Jesus Christ, Kenny was handsome.

by Anonymousreply 359April 14, 2025 11:45 PM

OKAY, BITCHEZ! I can’t believe you made me look for this.

Here’s Donna Mills saying it bugged her that Sheridan would creep in to watch her film:

by Anonymousreply 360April 15, 2025 12:34 AM

R360 thank you.

I do love her honesty. I have heard Sheridan is difficult since the late 80s so it’s always been funny how people paint her as the victim when she was ultimately fired from Desperate Housewives. I don’t believe she didn’t play a part in it.

Sheridan wasn’t off for the day though, she just wasn’t in those scenes and would watch Donna, but she also says she should have felt flattered. I’m sure Sheridan was just studying what Mills was doing as an actress and it wasn’t anything malicious.

by Anonymousreply 361April 15, 2025 12:41 AM

I always knew Baldwin was fired from Knots but never knew why. Always assumed it was because he was the asshole we know him to be after fame but everyone from that show speaks of him positively. I’m not shocked it was because he was putting on weight. That was a big no-no on tv back then. Even in the 90s. I remember the producers of Friends threatening to fire Matt LeBlanc after he put on some weight, forcing him to go on a diet.

by Anonymousreply 362April 15, 2025 12:43 AM

R345- this juicy interview was Behind the Velvet Rope by some guy David Yontef. The part where Donna discusses Nicolette is at ~35:10. Now everyone relax.

by Anonymousreply 363April 15, 2025 1:08 AM

R335 is an idiot. Who cares that Abby wasn’t in the first 13 rather clunky episodes of KL. She became a breakout character and drove 9 years of story, press and excitement. She is largely credited with Knots becoming the hit it was. Cover or People Magazine. But no, Kenny and Ginger were better…? Idiot. Of course Abby was part of those Laura episodes.

by Anonymousreply 364April 15, 2025 1:14 AM

Genevieve Bujold was ticked off when Liz Taylor would come watch her shoot scenes with Richard Burton during ANNE OF THE THOUSAND DAYS.

Bujold used it to inspire herself, though. She told the director, “I’m going to give that bitch an acting lesson she won’t soon forget.”

by Anonymousreply 365April 15, 2025 1:16 AM

[quote]R361 I’m sure Sheridan was just studying what Mills was doing as an actress and it wasn’t anything malicious.

The thing is, it’s unprofessional to intrude on other people while they’re working. And Mills leans in with staring eyes when she imitates what Sheridan looked like, always watching her.

When you’re working at a desk, you don’t want someone parked outside your cubicle, staring at you for hours. If you’re a maintenance worker, you don’t want someone following you around watching you mop floors and scrub things. It’s distracting and unnecessary. It’s not like actors can’t work with Nicollette Sheridan watching, but on the other hand, [italic]Get out of my face, bitch!

by Anonymousreply 366April 15, 2025 3:26 AM

In the new episode of WKDY, Michele asked if the girls were ever jealous of other cast mates. Donna was candid in saying she didn’t think it was entirely fair of the producers to make Nicolette, a woman half her age, her rival. Joan and Michele were quick to say that despite Nicolette’s staggering beauty, Donna still wiped the floor with Paige as Abby. Nicolette really got in her craw. I wonder how it went when they reunited for that dreadful 80s Ladies Christmas movie.

by Anonymousreply 367April 15, 2025 1:33 PM

Nicolette has always been known to be difficult. This isn’t anything new. I knew about her being difficult back around 1990 and we didn’t have social media etc. how we do know. Her being a bitch and difficult was always in the tabloids back then, which one could take with a grain of salt, but based on the attitude some of her costars have about her since back then, it’s obvious it was true.

And she was even worse on Desperate Housewives.

by Anonymousreply 368April 15, 2025 3:04 PM

Wasn’t Teri Hatcher the most hated member of the cast though? I know you can have more than one nightmare in a cast but I always thought Teri reigned supreme in terms of sheer cuntitude.

by Anonymousreply 369April 15, 2025 6:15 PM

Before I ever watched KL, I read an interview with Sheridan in “Soap Opera Digest” around 1987. The article was titled “Born to Be a Brat!” I remember thinking she didn’t come across as a very nice person at all.

by Anonymousreply 370April 15, 2025 7:23 PM

Sheridan has never been known to be nice. She was a spoiled privileged brat her whole life. And she was beautiful on top of that.

by Anonymousreply 371April 15, 2025 7:24 PM

Nicollette Sheridan and Robin Wright look something alike, but how different their personalities are. They should have played good vs. evil sisters.

by Anonymousreply 372April 15, 2025 7:39 PM

R369 Sheridan is fortunate that Hatcher was so awful that she even looked better. But one got fired while the other didn’t.

by Anonymousreply 373April 15, 2025 7:44 PM

[quote] The thing is, it’s unprofessional to intrude on other people while they’re working. ... When you’re working at a desk, you don’t want someone parked outside your cubicle, staring at you for hours.

I don't know. I feel conflicted about it. Sure, it would have been good manners to ask if it was OK to be the fly on the wall in Mill's scene. But it's acting. Producers, directors, other actors and lots of other staff see you working. And in the end an actor wants their work to be watched. If production added pressure on Mills though by pitting Abby against Paige and make it a competition, fine, I get it, watching Mills work may have added stress.

by Anonymousreply 374April 15, 2025 8:03 PM

Different sets have different policies, and different actors have different styles. Some are exhibitionists wanting all the attention they can get, while others, like the dreaded Dunaway, want the utmost privacy. (“Could you leave, please? You’re RIGHT in my eyeline!”)

If Sheridan sincerely wanted to watch Mills work, she’d have been wisest to keep her head down and blend into the background. It sounds like she wasn’t that subtle, though, and didn’t care that her presence was disruptive.

by Anonymousreply 375April 15, 2025 9:23 PM

One of my favorite moments on the show is a Paige moment though. It’s when she is going to visit Anne in the hospital and is carrying a bouquet of flowers but then drops the entire bouquet on the floor except for one little flower that she gives to Anne.

by Anonymousreply 376April 15, 2025 10:36 PM

This came on my YouTube feed for anyone who hasn't seen it. It's really fun!

Make sure you watch til the very end.

Hey Seavirw Circle Neighbors! plex Primetime Soaps Channel is starting Knots Landing right now - 8:05 pm Pacific - Lotus Point Time. Come join Richard and Laura and Ginger and Kenny and skinny Michele Lee and take a drink with Gary and a run on the beach with Val. Uh -oh Sid has a cold …….

by Anonymousreply 378April 24, 2025 3:11 AM

Is anyone else listening to We’re Knot Done Yet? 4 episodes so far. My big takeaway is that Michele is a bit off her rocker. We know Joan is nuts, but Michele’s sense of humor is pretty edgy and a bit mean spirited. You can tell they’re both rather jealous of Donna’s enduring beauty. Michele gets snappy when they “blow her jokes” which is more a product of them doing this over Zoom and the fact that these broads are over 80. It’s a train wreck.

by Anonymousreply 379April 24, 2025 11:58 AM

R379 you’re over analyzing women in their 80s…

by Anonymousreply 380April 24, 2025 12:36 PM

We could also debate Donna MIlls' "enduring beauty". I'd call her beauty "continuously renewed".

by Anonymousreply 381April 24, 2025 2:20 PM

R379 — I couldn’t agree more!

I can’t tell if they record the episodes separately or if the produce just let them speak for hours and then chopped the conversation up.

I love them — they’re all lovable, but damn Lee is one demanding old bat.

I may have posted this before but I’ve become very enchanted with podcaster Jett and her show Soap Lore. Her recaps of KL are catnip to me.

Watching Season 3 - Abby & Gary are working on the Methonal and they don’t have Jock aka Daddy’s money yet. Abby’s wardrobe (especially because Donna Mills is so tiny) is totally off of the rack Mall clothes. She walked right out of Judy’s and Contempo Casuals. You can smell hot pretzels and Cinni - bon . it would have been fun to see them getting the money and indulging in their new stuff. I think it is funny when Gary has that crummy apartment and Abby brings them back deli sandwiches in a paper sack.

by Anonymousreply 385April 25, 2025 5:49 PM

I notice all sorts of little things on my rewatch of Knots and Dallas, r385. Knots was really good with little details like that.

One example-right after Gary inherits the money Abby starts carrying A Gucci portfolio bag, and the character uses it for years, she still has it in season 8. Also at this time, Abby and Pam Ewing start wearing the same outfits on more than one occasion, so they must have been the same sozw”e.

Donna Mills, on the recent podcast, has mentioned more than once that once Abby’s wardrobe was updated she’d spend a day or two a week with the costumer shopping at Neiman Marcus.

None of the three seemed too interested in discussing Travilla.

by Anonymousreply 388April 25, 2025 7:39 PM

Some of the Travilla clothes were awful!! Not so much that they were awful - just out of place. Once in a while Karen would show up in a high fashion outfit with her hair slicked back and wearing a hat. A total WTF look for her. I have to laugh - Karen wore some really 70s flimsy halter outfits in season one showing of lots of bare arms and “boobage.” Plus she threw in some beautiful 1940s type clothes and sundresses. She had that wild long jet black hair and ponytails. Sometimes I think “Aw - Mack would have LOST HIS MIND if Karen walked in with one of those halter dresses and the wild hair! I can just hear him say “Oh KAREN!!!”

by Anonymousreply 389April 25, 2025 10:29 PM

My favorite Travila look was on Dallas.

Pam came to Southfork to drop off Christopher, and Sue Ellen, wearing a perfectly normal blouse and pants, asked her if she would like to go to the mall to shop and the movies. Pam agreed, and Sue Ellen said she needed to go upstairs to change.

A few minutes later, Sue Ellen descended the Southfork staircase in a turban. Who the fuck wears a turban to the mall?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 390April 25, 2025 11:02 PM

R390 - I love that turban! Not to mention Linda Gray’s big crazy eyes! I will have to look it up - weren’t Linda Gray’s legs ( leg) used as Anne Bancroft’s “Mrs Robinson’s leg in that famous shot from The Graduate with Dustin Hoffman looking at her? I used to love after school watching Mike Douglas, John Davidson etc back in the day. The Dallas cast used to do the daytime talk shows all of the time. I remember Linda Gray being a lot of fun. ……,,….. I have been meaning to ask - In the Knots episode in season 3 when they watch their home movies - does anyone know if Don Murray came back to film the home movies? or was that old footage that was never used? I always think it is so moving.

by Anonymousreply 391April 25, 2025 11:17 PM

[quote]r388 None of the three seemed too interested in discussing Travilla..

We could have bought a sequined Abby outfit from the show for seven hundred dollars:

[italic]A two-piece sequin-covered jungle cat print Travilla ensemble attributed by the Travilla estate as being worn in Knots Landing (CBS, 1979-1993). The ensemble comprises a fitted jacket and matching skirt. Accompanied by a matching belt. No labels present. Size 6.
