I think we may be getting a Twink Timothy sighting in this, too.

Just finished watching the Christmas episode on PBS. It's Christmas, 1969 and the episode saw the same problems it does each week for the past 13 seasons. I think the writers are running out of ideas.

Timmy's nocturnal emission episode was surprisingly graphic.

Olly Rix has left the show - so no more eye candy for gay viewers. Everyone else is back for the new season, which starts in 1970.
Why can't Violet Buckle get killed off or something ?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | December 26, 2024 2:55 AM |
No Olly Rix, sadly, and no Timothy.....so no eye candy, indeed, though the flu ridden poor husband did have pretty eyes. Unless Cyril whips out some BBC I'm afraid Poplar is fresh out of size meat.
I thought Nancy's gentleman friend was sorta cute.....but nothing to make a big fuss over.
The Buckles ate half the episode as usual and when Mae started talking to that woman I was hoping she'd get on a ride and fall off.
This was also the Nellie Queen episode......Trixie's brother was back, as well as that evil albino looking queen who wants to shut Sister Julienne and the order down.

I can do without Timothy, as the poor kid always looked like a sock puppet. If only they'd get rid of his father 'Dr. Turner' with his rubbery face. I'm hoping they bring back Miss Higgins' Indian grandson as a regular - he's rather cute.
Let's push Fred, Vi and Reggie Buckle onto the train tracks when the next train is coming. They've overstayed their welcome after 14 seasons. Let's push Mae in front of a school bus. And as for Nonnatus House, it's been on the brink of closing for 14 years - either close the damn building and end the series, or GTFO and let the sisters do their thing.
Please don't tell me the Nellie Queen is sticking around for this season to welcome the 1970s.

Season 14???
Stop calling her! Give the fucking midwife a break!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | December 26, 2024 11:50 AM |
I kinda like Geoffrey - but the evil nellie queen has got to go.
Unless they are truly following the story from Jennifer Worth.....putting the nuns into an apartment building with a change in their clothing/appearances.

The occasional ne’er-do-well walk-on husbands are always very cute (chosen by the all-female production team, presumably) and last-night’s consumptive husband became inexplicably more attractive as he neared death
Though, conversely, Stephen McGann is still in need of a quality moisturiser. (Unless he’s got “vegetarian face”?)
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 26, 2024 12:33 PM |
McGann started out handsomely, but he's definitely getting more haggard as he ages. Someone needs to dip him in a vat of Kiehl's Creme de Corps.

Peter Hannah played the consumptive father last night. Nice eyes.

This is Nancy's new love interest.
It seems like they might have been testing the blonde young midwife pupil with.....Cyril?

R11 Yum
R12 …erm, less so

R12 …But I appreciate your research

R14 it's all tickety boo!

I stopped watching a couple of seasons ago, I just got sick of the whole thing. What seemed like honest and direct sentiment at the beginning of te series, started ro feel self conscious, sanctimonious and boring. They made such a big deal about the very religious Carribean nurse but then she turned around and went back there, leaving her husband in London. A lot of the gears started showing for me and every plot change was feeling arbitrary.
For those still watching, please answer two questions for me: 1. Is Vanessa Redgrave, who I gather is dying of emphysema, still narrating? 2. Have they killed off that annoying twat Sister Monica Joan, irritatingly played by Judy Parfitt? She must be 100 by now in the chronology of the show, and I’ve read that Parfitt is no pleasure to work with.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 27, 2024 3:59 AM |
It still says Vanessa Redgrave on the credits, but it doesn’t sound like her.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 27, 2024 4:37 AM |
Yes, Parfitt is still with the show - though it seems as though she has really taken a back seat to the rest of the cast. I'm guessing there are no more interesting storylines for her in the late 60s ?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 27, 2024 11:46 AM |
Parfitt is near 90.
Redgrave sounds like she's losing her voice.

[quote]If only they'd get rid of his father 'Dr. Turner' with his rubbery face.
Since he's married to the creator/writer/showrunner -- not likely.

Daniel Laurie (Reggie) showed up in the Christmas episode of "Sister Boniface Mysteries" too.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | December 28, 2024 5:27 PM |
I was rather hoping Reggie would be forever lost. Or lay in traffic.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 28, 2024 8:35 PM |
Is the showrunner fucking Fred and Violet Buckle too? They needed to be gone several decades ago
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 29, 2024 4:21 AM |
I’ve got the sweetest hangover. Don’t call the midwife, don’t call the preacher.

Just saw Season 14 Episode 1. (UK has already seen all this I'm sure)
I really kinda enjoyed this one and after contemplation I've decided it was because it was an hour free of Shelagh and her rugrats. It did feature various Buckles but even they seemed to be on less than usual.
Miss Higgins was the hero of the episode, dealing w/Nancy's future mother in law......do NOT fuck with Millicent!
They are totally hinting at that young blond nurse getting some Cyril. Once you go black you never go back, gurl!
Vaguely hot daddy for the one mother who was dealing with a previous Caesarian.

Episode 2 - the crazy bitch in this one was really, really good. Reminded me a bit of Cynthia, one of the originals (along with Jenny, Trixie and Chummy).

The evil QUEEN is back in this episode.....hissing prisspot from the board of health!

"Oh, Patrick!"

I will say this season has been blissfully light on both Buckles as well as Turner Brats.
Violet and Fred had a bit of a spotlight in the last two episodes (Violet the previous one, Fred this week) but they were still not the main story. And Shelagh is on just about as often as Miss Higgins. No Mae turmoil this season (thankfully).
Now, there should be an episode with Timothy Turner wanking with a flatmate........

Sister Julienne had her once-every-three-years episode of Doubting Her Mission.
And the blonde midwife (who isn't Trixie) really really REALLY wants Cyril to give her a poke.
