More than 40% of young voters are okay with what Luigi Mangione did

Murdoch NY Post links give clickdollars and SEO to people who love Trump and hate gays.

Just 40%?
I think it's like 90% for those over 40 - people who have actually interacted with our healthcare system and not on their parents' insurance still.

I don’t think many older people are ok with what he did
by Anonymous | reply 3 | December 18, 2024 3:27 PM |
But they get why he did it.

You really think that 90% of the people over 40 support murder? Or did you try to say that 90% of the people over 40 want the health care system to provide better access to care?

R5 exactly

When there's a revolution, duh, people die.
I'm not saying that 21st century America is anywhere near a revolution. So yeah, what Mangione did was ethically wrong and he must serve time for murder.
That being said, Luigi sacrificed himself for a cause - that of sick people being used and abused by a corrupt system. So sorry, I can condemn the murder. Yet I still admire Luigi Mangione. He is a martyr for justice.
As for Thompson, he may have been a nice guy. But Nazis prison guards at Auschwitz were nice guys too after they went home to their friends and family.

"But they get why he did it."
Actually we don't. His family had enough money to pay for any health procedure out of pocket.
I think he is just mentally ill and looking for a victim.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | December 18, 2024 3:38 PM |
R7 lmao. Most older people don’t support this.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | December 18, 2024 3:39 PM |
I'm sure you know all the details, R8. I'm sure.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | December 18, 2024 3:44 PM |
If Grandma doesn’t support this, she can pay for my health insurance then.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 18, 2024 4:08 PM |
Listen, I'm in my 60s and have been fucked over time and again by people I detest and I wouldn't wish death on any of them. Don't make this asshole a hero. Even if he is cute. With a great body. And washboard abs.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | December 18, 2024 4:13 PM |
Unfortunately without a little fear nothing will change.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 18, 2024 4:23 PM |
I don't believe anyone deserves being murdered, no matter what they've done. This crime is not going to change a thing for the better. If anything it may make the insurance companies raise their rates to cover all the extra precautions they're probably going to start taking to protect their executives (or claim they have to take).

So?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | December 18, 2024 4:28 PM |
He’s the canary in the coal mine. There has been a massive shift of wealth from the middle and lower classes to the top 1% over the past forty years. The anger that MAGA has directed toward immigrants is actually caused by this shift in wealth. It doesn’t matter how this guy came to do what he did; it only matters that somebody made the connection. It’s why CEO’s (and other prominent people) are suddenly worried about the public reaction.

He shot a man in the back and ran away. He will spend his life in prison. How does this fix the healthcare system?

Perhaps so:

[quote]A shocking number of young people support UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s killer, an Emerson College poll has found.
Most of those 40% are likely liberal (and female) so it doesn't encompass all young people.

[quote]Most of those 40% are likely liberal (and female) so it doesn't encompass all young people.
Tell us you don't know anything about polling without telling us. Overall results:
• 22% of Democrats found the killer's actions acceptable, while 59% found them unacceptable. Among Republicans, 12% found the actions acceptable while 16% of independents said the same.
• Men (19%) found the killer's actions slightly more acceptable than women (14%).

Acceptable ≠ Understandable
by Anonymous | reply 22 | December 18, 2024 4:42 PM |
The other 60 simply don’t care.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 18, 2024 4:46 PM |
O.P. This is a senseless statement . Why even compare voters opinion to Luigi's actions. less than 50 percent of people even bother to vote. Restricting healthcare to increase profit is another expression of growing inequality. Democracy isn't Capitalism. Murder is murder Capitalism is Capitalism. Are you proposing Murder should be regulated by Capitalism or Capitalism should be regulated by murder.

Was brilliant and laudatory on the scale? I’m there.

People are getting more cold and disconnected from others. I think the digital age has made it easier to divorce others from their personhood and see them as no more than bytes on a screen, far-removed from the reality of the human experience. We're bringing up a generation of sociopaths.
