Is Walmart+ worth the subscription?

I've had ads from AARP on my Facebook page offering $20 a WalMart+ subscription. Currently, I have Amazon Prime which will be up for renewal in May, and I'm honestly thinking of dropping it. The two main features of AP that I signed up for was 'next day' or '2 day' delivery, which they hardly ever honor any longer. The other is their Prime Video - which I hardly watch because their offerings aren't great any more (I prefer Netflix).

WalMart+ offers free delivery (though I'm not sure if it's 2 day or not - doesn't say) and Paramount+. However, I can't find out how much membership is unless I 'open an account'.

Can anyone give me personal feedback on how expensive this is, and how it compares to AP ? For those who switched from AP to Walmart+ - are you happy with the switch ?

Walmart + offers both same day delivery from the store. I used it to have groceries delivered when I sick and didn't want to go out. I've Paramount+ has movies available at the same time they are in the theaters. I have both Walmart+ and Amazon Prime. If I were to keep just one, it would be Walmart+.

I have both Walmart+ and Amazon Prime.

Paramount+ Essential is included free with Walmart+. Paramount+ with Showtime is 50% off for Walmart+ members.

Scan and go in store, discount on fuel, they will pickup your returns at your house if you are present for the pick up but I don't order for shipping so I don't know about time frames for shipping or how well the return process works. 25% off at Burger King.

I use if for curbside pickup of groceries or free delivery of groceries. Curbside can be picked up as early as 7:00 a.m. Delivery starts at 8:00. A couple times per year they send a free Express Delivery code.

I found that Walmart+ in my area was not reliable, about 50 percent of the time they just never delivered an order and would cancel it.

I have had better luck shopping Walmart via Instacart.

I don't want or need Paramount+, but obviously your mileage may vary.

The Walmart+ deliveries are done by third party drivers and they ask for tips, unless you upgrade to Walmart Home (I believe it's called.) I'm not paying for a service and then tipping on top of that, or alternatively, paying for a service to turn around and pay for another service, so I am letting the clock runout on my Walmart+ subscription and not renewing.

cost?

Thanks everyone for your feedback. It's been very helpful.

And like R5 asks - cost ? I can't find the cost of the subscription anywhere unless I create an account.

Thanks again !

I think I paid $99 for the year, and was paying like $7.99/month for Paramount+, so it was a wash even if I don't use it.

Comes free with certain Amex cards.

Not worth the $$ I paid. I still have to have a $35 minimum order for delivery or pick-up. You can get that for FREE with a $35 order.

If you pay the extra $40 per year to upgrade to InHome, then your groceries are delivered in a Walmart van by a Walmart employee who will bring the groceries into your kitchen and put them away for you if you want. They are very nice and professional, nothing like the dumb DoorDashers. And they are not allowed to take tips, so that in itself saves me hundreds of dollars per year. There are limited InHome delivery slots available each day, so you have to place your order at least a day before you want delivery. Standard delivery is still available to you for free at any time, but it comes from a DoorDasher et. al. and you have to tip. If your free delivery totals less than $35, they will charge a $6.99 fee but they will still bring it. If I'm ever in that situation, I just order toilet paper or cleaners or something that I know I'm going to need in order to get the total high enough for free delivery.

Shipping is always free, no minimum purchase. Shipping works the same as Amazon, but you have to keep in mind that if the item you ordered is sitting in a Walmart across town, they will send a DoorDasher to your home with it for free rather than ship it in a package. Sounds like good service, but when you're expecting something to come in the mail in two days and instead you get a frantic call from a driver who can't find your house when you're not expecting a delivery can be a hassle. More than once I've had to drop everything I'm doing to spend a half hour guiding someone to me to bring me a box of paper clips or something small. If the website says, "Free Shipping, arrives today," that's what you'll be dealing with.

I've had it for a couple of years and have been pretty happy with the service. Any time I've had a problem, they've been good about fixing it right away. A few times I've been in R3's predicament where the order just didn't come, and they are not good about communicating about the problem or how they're going to fix it. Over time you get to know the InHome delivery people, so the last time it happened my guy just called me directly and said, "Everything's fucked up on our end; can I come tomorrow?" which I appreciated. And if you don't like it, you get a full prorated refund.

I would not advise anyone to use any company that uses Instacart as their delivery agent. Instacart is chock-a-block with criminals and con artists doing their deliveries. I order groceries for a very old friend of mine who is now a widow and a stroke survivor and is not able to do her own in-store shopping and has limited use of one arm. I order her grocers from Kroger who has their own delivery service. They also have the option of Instacart if there are no Kroger delivery trucks available (mainly for same day deliveries). Before they started up their own fleet of delivery vans all her deliveries were from Instacart. On 3 occasions the Instacart shopper called her prior to delivery telling her that her credit card was declined at the checkout and they would need her to pay them cash upon delivery. On every occasion I checked and the charges to her card had already gone through and been approved by her CC provider. When I called Instacart (as usual someone in some foreign country) I was advised that they would have the order delivered by someone else and make sure the shopper who tried to pull the con was never assigned to deliver for her again. WHAT THE EVER LOVING FUCK! They should have been saying "we'll make sure that shopper is terminated and refer the incident to the local police".

In several years we've only had one screw up by Kroger's in-house delivery system. A $120.00 order never arrived but when I checked her account their system said it had been delivered. I still think the driver did deliver it but to the wrong address. Kroger immediately credited the entire order and I placed the order again and it was delivered the next day with no problems.

I've never had any issues with Instacart, especially none like that, R11.

Not saying you're lying, sounds like there was a serious issue with scammy employees in your area. But I've had way better experiences with accountability, etc. and deliveries with Instacart. I think once in the last 4 years, we had an issue where the dumb shopper delivered our stuff elsewhere, and I got a refund immediately.

Tried Kroger, Albertson and Safeway delivery a few times and they always got at least 25 percent of the order wrong, or provided a substitute that made no sense.

I will say Instacart allows me to write comments for each item and I try to be as specific as possible, mostly I just clearly write no substitutions, but that's part of why I like them more and I think, part of why my orders run smoothly, I can spell out details in a way some of the other systems didn't permit.

You can get pickup for free, but NOT delivery with a $35 order. For groceries or deliveries from the store anyway.

Hubby subscribed at the beginning of the pandemic and despite my objections, it's been pretty good. I love reading people on Nextdoor complaining that they have no cashiers, no one on the floor to help you, you have to pay for bags at checkout... blah, blah, blah. But with Walmart+ they do the shopping, tally it up, bag it, and bring it to your door. I don't mind tipping the drivers; I suspect that that is their pay for bringing the order and anything that Walmart pays DoorDash stays with DoorDash.

They do fuck up, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. On a recent order, they brought four dozen eggs, a bag of oranges, and a couple of steaks that weren't cheap and we didn't order. On an order we placed early on using the service, they brought some stuff we didn't order and when we tried to return it the clerk practically begged us to just keep it and not say anything because otherwise she had to process a refund to us despite that we didn't pay for any of it, which presented a problem for their system. However, if there is anything missing from your order, all you have to do is click a couple of boxes and hit submit for a full refund with no questions asked. We calculate that we've received about twice as much in free products as we've paid — $99 a year — for the service over the last few years.

We've been blown away a couple of times with the service. Once they delivered less than 30 minutes after placing the order and it wasn't an express (up charged) order. Several times they've sent out missing and refunded items free of charge later in the day. Our only gripe is that they tend to send way too much weighted items (specifically, produce. I ordered one single pepper; what am I going to do with a pound of jalapenos?). There's also items on a do-not-deliver list and it's rather random. And the drivers are rarely handsome men, instead it's usually an overweight frau or someone older than me (and I'm older than dirt).

Walmart is desperate to keep Amazon out of grocery, and they're losing hundreds of $millions on +. We will continue enjoying this service as long as they'll keep giving us free money,

Around here, you will not get good service from WM, the service is shitty in the store, I can't think what delivery would be.

by Anonymousreply 15December 15, 2024 4:19 PM

I got it free via Amex and I use it for grocery delivery occasionally. Very fast delivery and I have been happy with quality. Paramount plus is a nice bonus.

by Anonymousreply 16December 15, 2024 5:35 PM

R10 if you pay an extra $25 they'll give you a blow job too.
