Seafood is disgusting, overhyped and a disgrace to the term “food”
I’ve had many types of seafood so far, lobster, shrimp, crab, crayfish, lobsters, multiple types of fish, oysters. Just vile.
Not to mention, crustaceans for example, it’s like you have a huge insect carcass on your plate. Sure, a chicken can be served as the whole thing, but when I see a crab on a platter I just feel like I’m looking at a huge dead underwater spider about to be eaten.
The foods listed above, I’ve had them in expensive, cheap, and mid restaurants, and honestly they are FOUL, regardless of the fact that they were seasoned, sauced, whatever.
I’ve always seen the hype about seafood on social media and not gonna lie, they look good, but the texture, the taste, and the overall experience of eating them, it just revolts me.
And oysters… dear god, I tried it at an expensive highly rated restaurant and I’ve only had to try ONE, and I ran to the restroom gagging and nearly throwing up in my hands, the taste was horrible, the texture was TRAUMATIZING. As far as I can describe it, it’s like slurping a big ball of fleshy snot out of a fishy ass shell.

I agree OP. Here’s a gross factoid for you: shellfish such as shrimp, crabs, and lobsters are basically just ocean roaches. They’re all arthropods, so they share a lot of similarities. Exoskeletons, segmented bodies, and scavenging on garbage. Lobsters especially are out there crawling on the ocean floor, munching on decaying matter and trash.
Even scarier? If you’re allergic to shellfish, you will also react to cockroaches (and grasshoppers) because they have the same proteins that trigger allergies. Your immune system can’t tell the difference. Nightmare fuel when you see someone enjoying a shrimp cocktail and realize what they’re really eating.

Lobster wasn’t always the glamorous, high end delicacy we think of today. It used to be considered poverty food. Cheap, abundant, and often served to prisoners, servants, and the poor in the 17th and 18th centuries. Lobsters were so plentiful along the coasts of New England that they would wash ashore in piles, and people viewed them as trash food. There’s even evidence of contracts in Massachusetts stating that servants couldn’t be fed lobster more than three times a week because it was seen as cruel to serve it so often.
Essentially, what started as food for the desperate has become a symbol of indulgence and wealth, thanks to clever marketing and a shift in cultural perception.

Is seafood healthy though? I thought they had a lot of vitamins and nutrients

If you don't like it, don't eat it OP...and lay off the merlot.

OP didn’t mention clams which are delicious steamed or fried.

The smell of seafood is enough for me to walk away. Like an aquarium. Imagine if meat smelled like a zoo, would we still eat it?

OP is a tiresome, bitchy troglodyte with baby tastes. How dreary.

OP is posting from a trailer park and is dismayed that the "seafood platter" at the local Friendly's wasn't the sophisticated extravaganza she expected. I mean, if you splurge for a special birthday meal like that, you have a right to expect ambrosia, not a limp pile of watery, greyish mush that you can smell coming from 5 booths away.

I'm not a fan of (most) seafood either, but I think I speak for all of us when I say...
Pipe down, Francis!

I don't understand why OP keeps eating food he doesn't like. Or why he thought we'd care about his child's palate.

R11 There are people out there (I am one of them) who enjoy a large variety of foods and spices with the exception of seafood. I am almost 40 years old and grew up with an entire family of people who loved seafood. Yet there is not a single seafood dish I can stand the taste, texture, or aroma of. Maybe it’s a genetic thing? Even fish sauce in a dish like Pad Thai renders it inedible for me.

R18, OP, you are incapable of wit. And your gnarly cosplay can never be 2nd or 3rd degree amusing. You're a complete village idiot. And a miserable bitch.

R19 If I’m the village idiot, then you must be the town crier. LOUD, bitter, and absolutely unnecessary. But thanks for the feedback, sunshine. It’s always refreshing to hear from someone whose hobby is losing arguments with strangers on the internet. 💋

Eat your shitty seafood, it's from Asia, basically all of it, your local restaurant lies to you too, antibiotic resistance, steroids, diseases you people will eat gutter oil as long as you can shove in those shitty shrimps.

All the creatures that R3 mentioned I am fascinated by and if I had the space would have an aquarium full of them to watch.

Not all creatures of rivers, lakes, and oceans are equally off-putting as to texture and genealogical family, OP. Fish are not shellfish, and neither is a crustacean. And not all are imported from "farms" in 3rd World countries (e.g., Maine lobsters).
Nonetheless, I have forsworn all for various reasons. As for inspections, that's a laugh! This country has few and far between for all foods. If people knew how little our meats, for example, are inspected, they'd hurl! Going to get much worse starting next year.
