I don't know, I just do. Maybe the obvious Narcissist Personality Disorder, but everyone in show biz has that.
Why do I hate John Mulaney? Do you?

He's ugly, unfunny and completely uninteresting.

Yippee! Another "I hate ____________ session." Datalounge at its Dataloungiest.

He pretends to not take himself seriously
BUT HE CANT HELP HIMSELF . CLASSIC NARCISSIST
I don’t hate him. Some narcs ( not all) were “ created” from 0-5 by abusive parents ( usually mothers). It was emotional neglect as much as physical abuse . The narcs I’ve known had cold distant grandiose mothers

I don't love all his schtick, but his last hosting gig on SNL provided the best episode of the season so far. I love his musical references.

He looks moist.
This isn’t a compliment. The public we serve are usually in one phase or another of substance use disorder; “Moist” means there’s about to be shouting, accusations, mechanical appliance dissection, glitter, and/or a request for oatmeal packets and some hand sanitizer for a fire.

I generally don’t think about him at all.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | December 4, 2024 4:38 PM |
How would any of us possibly know why you hate John Mulaney? We don't live inside your head, OP.

He used to be funny. He was an upper middle class suburban white kid from Chicago who had funny thoughts on the world around him. He was relatable but still a little out of touch and maybe a little pretentious, but in a charming way.
Now he is obnoxious and actually pretentious. His jokes are the same that every other comedian does; sex, drugs, vomit, etc.

He's always needed a visit from my beloved Blatino husbear.
And he knows it.

Milquetoast

His special from a few years ago, "John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch" was brilliant

Look for severe childhood disturbances associated with violence. Our Johnny wasn't born a narcissist, OP. He was made one through years of systematic abuse. Johnny hates his own identity, you see, and he thinks that makes him a heterosexual. But his pathology is a thousand times more savage and more terrifying.

He is upper-crust.

My first memory of him is on an episode of Difficult People. Something about him was off-putting, but I didn't give it a second thought until a few years later when he was everywhere, including here at DL.

I thought I was the only one that couldn't stand this guy. Sp many people around me think he is so funny. Not me. I hardly laugh when he is on. And his voice makes me crazy.
I also hate people that have everything going for them and let their life go down the shitter. Some of us have had to work (hard) for whatever we have.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 5, 2024 4:15 AM |
I never got DL's obsession with this guy.
Is it because they thought he could be gay?

When he was presenting himself as some apple-cheeked naif while all the while CLEARLY having a very dark side, he was somewhat interesting.
His latest special “BABY J” is also very, very dark. I like that sort of thing.
The stuff in-between is pretty mediocre. Plus he was serving sweaty coke whore during that time, which isn’t my thing.

He was awful to his first wife
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 5, 2024 4:56 AM |
He looks like the haunted ventriloquist dummy from “Goosebumps.”

I feel like I did with Seinfeld, once they start telling jokes about their kids they become unfunny

Funny you should mention “Seinfeld.” Jerry was pretty rude to Mulaney on his ep of “Comedians in Cars.”
Jerry also made some nasty remarks about Mulaney in the Gary Shandling ep of “Comedians in Cars.”
But, what really killed Jerry for me was his being rude to Dana Carvey. Dana’s comedy is not my cup of tea, but he is a sweetheart. Dickhead Jerry bullied Dana ON JERRY’s OWN SHOW.
Jerry was supposed to be the host. Abysmal manners. Turned me off to Jerry forever, and I used to really like him.

He has a nice hairy chest though.

Stupid closet case who would have no career at all if he were 5% fatter.

I actually think he's pretty damn funny. But I get why others don't.
R21, Jerry is one of the worst people in showbiz. He's so unlikable.
