Which candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination has the best chance of winning the general election in November 2028?
None of the above.

Pick one, R1.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | December 2, 2024 1:10 PM |
Newsom is finished. The nomination is Shapiro’s to lose now.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 9, 2025 5:57 PM |

Andy Beshear

Shapiro is Jewish. There is still too much anti-Semitism in the US. A Jewish person has very little chances of winning a POTUS election.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 9, 2025 6:03 PM |
I want Shapiro just as fuck you for this country not allowing the first Jewish first partner. It would have been great.

There’s a lot more love for Jews than you think, R6. Quit being a pussy.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 9, 2025 6:09 PM |
R7 I get what you're saying and feel the same way. But, unfortunately this country isn't going to elect a Jewish person in the next 20-30 years same with a gay person.
The factors that would have to happen in order for a Jewish person, or another non-Christian or gay person to be elected POTUS would be the following -increases in atheism or agnosticism in Gen Alpha and Gen Beta -increases in Christians who are left leaning and would have no issues election a Jewish person, gay person, or non-Christians as POTUS

No.
And he married that evil cunt, and that makes him corrupt and the greaseball he looks like.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 9, 2025 6:20 PM |
When Democrats look for the perfectly sanded uncontroversial candidate, they lose. People need a few rough edges and imperfections to be relatable. If pussy grabbing and oral sex on microphones didn’t stop Trump, maybe Democrats can live a little dangerously and support someone with a pulse,
by Anonymous | reply 13 | January 9, 2025 6:22 PM |
naw, democrats went "low" in this last election and it got them nothing. democrats simply need to state more clearly what they want, democracy and fair representation of the electorate and social networks that work FOR the people, not the ruling classes. they make that clear it could be any candidate.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 9, 2025 6:25 PM |
r6 Shapiro can do it. He sounds like a mix between a Philly Italian and a Black man. He can do it. He has it, I can just feel it. We need a young millennial. How old is Shapiro. Not more than 42 right. People thought a black man could never be president until Obama sat on Oprah's couch and had these flyover fraus panties wet.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 9, 2025 6:28 PM |
Shapiro is fifty

When is the last time a dark horse candidate won the Democratic presidential nomination, R24?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 9, 2025 10:14 PM |
Only the last four times they won. Carter, Clinton, Obama, and (arguably) Biden.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 9, 2025 10:18 PM |
The far left nut bags and their brethren in the alt right wouldn’t go for Shapiro; that alone is a reason to nominate him.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 9, 2025 10:20 PM |
I'd say it's too early to tell. You may get 10 interested individuals. The one who gets the timing for peoples' attention span right will get the nomination.
I'd be very fine with Shapiro. He seems to have a good moral compass and takes no prisoners. He has no patience for phony b/s which will help him during campaigns just like it helped Obama. And he has more substance than Newsome who is way too populistic for my taste.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 9, 2025 10:29 PM |

Generally speaking, politicians are held responsible for natural disasters — unreasonably, but still. Same thing happened to Bush during Katrina and DeSantis during the Florida mega-hurricanes.

by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 9, 2025 10:47 PM |
Some of you are thinking rationally. That's the problem. Yes, Shapiro is awesome. But, you're thinking with a logical brain. Do you know who just got elected. The fucking idiots in this country don't go by "Oh, that guy is so smart, or he's doing a great job as governor, he'd be a great candidate." The fucking buffoons in this country elected a worthless piece of shit. 1/2 the country did NOT vote on 'the most qualified guy.' That fantasy is now gone.

r33 Dude the response to Katrina was unmitigated disaster from the local government to Bush. None of that is at play here.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 9, 2025 11:02 PM |
One of the bigger problems is that if you have contempt for voters and try to pander to your caricatures of them, it comes through and they dismiss you.
Obama wasn’t pandering to the LCD; he said what he meant and voters appreciated him. Hillary, who was the ultimate panderer seeking to “appeal to dumb voters,” was a loser. There’s a lesson there and it’s not “don’t nominate the minority dude because he cannot win.”
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 9, 2025 11:11 PM |

Neither. The only prominent Democrats of the moment who have a shot at the nominee are Gretchen Whitmer or Wes Moore. Maybe Raphael Warnock if it looks like it’s safe to take him out of his Senate seat at that point. If a white man is going to be the one to pull together the Dem coalition it’s not going to be a smooth coastal guy, it will be some plain talking down home type from the South or Midwest.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 13, 2025 12:41 AM |
😂 The absolute last thing the Democrats will do is nominate another woman. Sorry Big Gretch but the most you can hope for is VP.
Now Wes Moore is a man who has what it takes to go all of the way, you hit the nail on that one. But if Pennsylvania is once again the most important state in 2028, why would we choose Moore over that state’s popular Governor? Of course if Moore runs, anything can happen.

It’s not going to be Shapiro as long as the Free Palestine crew is around to spin the one month he spent on a kibbutz as a teen into him being a genocidal colonist.
I also don’t think being a popular Governor of a large state necessarily translates to being the best or most successful federal candidate. What’s popular in PA isn’t necessarily popular elsewhere. It’s about who has the most appeal on a national level.

In any case, these casting calls are more pointless than ever.
We have no idea what the world will look like come primary season or who, in that context, might save us from the recent past with which we will be burdened.
There is no way to intelligently predict who the answer is because there is no way to know what people will want in four years. This is political Tourette's.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | January 13, 2025 2:32 AM |
Shapiro has been governor of PA for 2 years. Has little to no name recognition among the general public outside of PA .
He has a lot of work to do to grow his brand and it's going to take more than a few paid bots to make that happen.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | January 13, 2025 6:09 AM |
Nobody knew who Pete was five years ago, or Bill Clinton back in the day, either. Voters seldom do. It's a big part of primary season. So much of it is luck and timing.

R77, exactly, and look at the pics at R79. They are BOTH delusional. He also lied about going to rehab. He said he went to rehab and then admitted years later that never happened and said that he now drinks socially. Do we really need an alcoholic in the white house?
by Anonymous | reply 91 | January 13, 2025 1:17 PM |
I feel like people here overestimate Newsom's level of stardom. I don't think even in California he is seen as the Democrats' savior. He received clear support in California because there was no viable alternative on the Republican side.
His main skill really is trolling Trump. He does that really well, but it takes you only so far. The LA fires are probably not helping, but I don't think they hurt him either. After all people have extremely short memory. It's just that he doesn't have much else going for himself.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | January 13, 2025 3:16 PM |
You're all going to explode but W is an example here. The first few hours of 9/11 flying time notwithstanding, he very quickly asserted himself as leader. Once he climbed that pile of rubble at ground zero he was, for awhile, the man to whom everyone looked.
If Newsom was to grab that mantle in this, he's too late now. My impression of that everybody's doing their best - and some bests are better than other (I'm looking at you Mayor Bass) - but nobody seems really in control, at least in the political class.

I don't think either one is viable. I don't think Americans will vote for a Jew, and I think Newsome's California roots will kill his candidacy especially after the Republicans tap dance on his head about the fires. The US will never elect a lesbian as POTUS.

Unless something majorly changes, Newsom has zero chance, so between OP's choices, Shapiro is the obvious winner.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | January 20, 2025 1:32 AM |
PETE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by Anonymous | reply 142 | January 20, 2025 1:40 AM |
Again, a gay or lesbian has zero chance of becoming elected POTUS.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | January 20, 2025 1:48 AM |
A gay guy could become president so long as he’s a top and in a relationship with a partner who’s smaller and more dainty so straight people can obviously tell he’s the bottom. The problem with Pete is that your average heterosexual American looks at him and Chasten and wonder who’s pounding who. They will not vote for a man who they even suspect might be taking it up the ass. The top who does make it will literally have to be in campaign commercials like “Hi, I’m Dave Smith candidate for President and I’ve never bottomed once in my life.”
by Anonymous | reply 144 | January 20, 2025 2:00 AM |
I wouldn't count Pete out. I think America could get behind a caring, smart dad.

Pete seems trustworthy and kind.

Former troops would vote for Pete, those guys stick together. He was heroic unlike that piece of shit Hegseth.
by Anonymous | reply 147 | January 20, 2025 2:16 AM |
Former troops are mostly MAGAts who will say Pete was only in the military due to DEI and he’s now a communist so his service doesn’t count.

Shapiro leading the election odds market on the Democratic side with JD Vance leading for the GOP. The person behind Shapiro? Michelle Obama, who is the only candidate I’d want over Josh.

Where’s Gavin? 🔥
by Anonymous | reply 150 | January 23, 2025 2:12 AM |
Kamala is going to run for governor of California. bet on it. No more Presidential runs. Although I would love to see a Democratic President appoint her Chief Justice of the SCOTUS. Or Attorney General.
by Anonymous | reply 151 | January 23, 2025 3:50 AM |
There’s plenty of candidates in California who would make a better Governor than her. What a shame if she gets to take that seat strictly due to name recognition rather than hard work.
by Anonymous | reply 152 | January 23, 2025 8:48 AM |
In the last 16 days since the fire, unfortunately not many people in California are liking Governor Gavin Newsom.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | January 23, 2025 10:50 AM |
R152 Name one.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | January 23, 2025 12:10 PM |
Uhh, that’s the point, R155. I don’t know who the fuck they are from 3,000 miles across the country cause they just quietly do the work everyday without any fanfare. Those are the people who know what needs to be done.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | January 23, 2025 1:27 PM |
R156 name recognition is kinda important...
by Anonymous | reply 157 | January 23, 2025 3:11 PM |
For all the wrong reasons, R157. How many clowns get into offices across the country because dumb ass Americans know their name? That asshole Dr. Oz almost became a US Senator because of it.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | January 23, 2025 3:21 PM |
Klammy had name recognition and an office.
by Anonymous | reply 159 | January 23, 2025 4:40 PM |
Agree, R158, but it is a reality. Part of reason Trump was able to run for office is because people "knew" him. With him he was a constant presence for decades.
by Anonymous | reply 160 | January 23, 2025 5:12 PM |
R156 And yet, despite the fact that you know nothing about California politics, you opine that Harris has somehow outperformed her hard work. Do you have any idea how much money she secured from oil and gas companies for screwing over California consumers? Do you know how many corporations she held to account? I do, because I'm getting a rebate for overpaying for gas that she helped secure.
Did you pay attention to how prepared she was in the Senate? Did you pay attention to the diplomatic efforts that she was heading when Ukraine was invaded? Did you see how she was received in Munich at the security conference?
Here are the only other names in California politics: Caruso, Bass, Newsom, and possibly Schiff. Porter has disappeared, thankfully. I follow politics religiously and I can't name you more than those names. My lunatic state rep thinks he has a shot, but doesn't. The piece of shit sheriff, Chad Bianco, is a MAGA/Oath Keeper and he's said to be considering a run.
So, please ... enlighten me as to who has "earned" this shot more than Kamala Harris?

[quote]Caruso, Bass, Newsom, and possibly Schiff
Is Caruso another Republican billionaire?
Bass is fucked after the fires and she's old... early seventies... it is getting harder for the olds to sell their competence if they fuck up. Fairly or unfairly, Bass is in a corner now and it's going to be a long before people are close to putting aside their emotions. Incumbents are at high risk.
Newsom, my perception is he adds more and more baggage to his unfavorables with each passing year.
Schiff wants to retire from the Senate, like all of them. Or to aim higher and then retire from the Senate.
I don't know. Governing California seems like a poisoned chalice. Maybe it was a job you wanted forty years ago. There are so many structural problems like everywhere, but complicated by environmental risks. Between fires and sea levels, who with any brains would want the job? And after being VP, isn't governor a little boring?
by Anonymous | reply 163 | January 24, 2025 12:48 PM |
Not at all as Governor she would have a real job. People would depend on her.
Waking up every morning asking the same question —-is the potus still alive—- sounds like an important job but it often is not,
by Anonymous | reply 164 | January 24, 2025 1:19 PM |
Jesus Christ who would even want to be governor of CA? You have to figure out insurance shit affordability issues, the president treats the state as an enemy of the US. You need someone like Jerry Brown. Someone who's just gonna put blinders on, hunker down and get shit done.
by Anonymous | reply 165 | January 24, 2025 1:35 PM |
I think you misunderstand what goes on behind the scenes, R164. She was involved. Don't diminish that with simplicities.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | January 24, 2025 3:36 PM |
California has just gotten too big and unwieldy to be one state, IMO. No one person can govern it effectively anymore. Split it into North Cali and South Cali, with two governors. Even then, those are still two hugely populous and influential states on their own.
Northern CA has a somewhat different culture than south CA as well. Draw a boundary line west-east, from north of Morro Bay eastward between Fresno and Bakersfield. Not sure if the Fresno area belongs in the north or south?
by Anonymous | reply 167 | January 24, 2025 3:41 PM |
Governor says I ran shit I was in charge
VP says I was involved

by Anonymous | reply 171 | January 24, 2025 6:52 PM |
A lot of baggage, R171.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | June 30, 2025 3:40 AM |
Neither, OP. And Andy BeShear is really lame. He might do well as VP. But that's a stretch. You know what? I get a John Edwards kind of vibe from Andy. Honestly the most qualified and effective person would be Pete. I would love to see him be President. Too bad he'd have to campaign first because we have so many ugly POS people in this country. He is too good for them.
by Anonymous | reply 173 | June 30, 2025 3:51 AM |
There’s no option for “Neither,” R173.

[quote]Which candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination has the best chance of winning the general election in November 2028?
Anyone who wins the Dem primary will win the general because the electorate is so polarized, we're doing change elections every four years now. Question is, who will win the primary?
by Anonymous | reply 175 | June 30, 2025 4:19 AM |
I wouldn’t be so sure about that, R175. There are plenty of Dems who could make the path easier for the GOP to keep the White House. And Gavin Newsom is one of them.
by Anonymous | reply 176 | June 30, 2025 4:23 PM |
I cannot not hear Shapiro’s Obama impression.
by Anonymous | reply 177 | June 30, 2025 4:33 PM |
I admire Newsom’s fighting spirit, but I think the issues tied to California, fair or not, have already left a mark. It feels like he’s already had his shot and lost, so a comeback run might land the same way a Cuomo bid for NYC mayor would: awkward and out of step. Shapiro, on the other hand, is likable, sharp, and has a great sense of humor. I think he’ll resonate well. As for Beshear, he hasn’t really put himself out there yet; next to Shapiro, he comes off more like a wallflower.
by Anonymous | reply 178 | June 30, 2025 4:35 PM |
you know, speaking of Cuomo, there's a lesson there. Maybe I'm wrong, but we haven't heard from him very much since they ran him out of office. He sort of disappeared. So he wakes up one day and says, I'm gonna run for mayor. ...and no one cares.
by Anonymous | reply 179 | June 30, 2025 5:16 PM |
Neither. There’s both DOA.
by Anonymous | reply 180 | June 30, 2025 5:18 PM |
Right now, Democrats don’t have a viable candidate for 2028. They need to concentrate on the midterms.
by Anonymous | reply 181 | June 30, 2025 5:19 PM |
Look. If we want to win we need someone with a story to tell. I think we need a celebrity with credibility. I would vote f or Mark Cuban.
by Anonymous | reply 182 | June 30, 2025 6:24 PM |
Mark Cuban has never run for anything. He’s not vetted. We don’t know what kind of skeletons he has in his closet, and we’re not waiting to find out in October 2028.

[quote] Is Caruso another Republican billionaire?
Yes. He was a lifelong Republican who conveniently switched parties just a week before launching his mayoral run in L.A. It was transparent to everyone. He wasn’t interested in serving the city; he just wanted the title as a stepping stone to enrich himself.
