That one where Forest Gump is stranded with his favorite ball for a decade and gets buff

by Anonymousreply 9December 2, 2024 12:27 AM

Good grief, the stench of pretension from OP’s list is near toxic.

He never watches these movies.

Meanwhile, he’s watched “Pretty Woman” four times on TBS last month.

R10 No? How is my list pretentious?

R13 Pressing return twice after each movie should sort it into a list form

by Anonymousreply 16July 20, 2025 2:14 PM

At a time when it's being pointed out by multiple pundits and thinkers that anti-intellectualism is one of the reasons America is falling apart, DL does it best to attack OP for his extremely smart list of excellent movies.

by Anonymousreply 17July 20, 2025 2:30 PM

OP’s list is very safe.

by Anonymousreply 18July 20, 2025 2:36 PM

I think some people are interpreting OP’s directive as meaning “the ten best movies I’ve seen” rather than “the ten movies I’m most happy to watch over and over again.” You’re on a desert island ffs, not becoming the Guardian of Culture. In no particular order:

Die Hard II

Umbrellas of Cherbourg

Dr. Zhivago

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

The Lady Vanishes

Cabaret

My Best Friend’s Wedding

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

Roman Holiday

The Fugitive

You think wrong, then R19. Just accept that different people have different sensibilities.

by Anonymousreply 20July 20, 2025 3:13 PM

Aguirre, the Wrath of God

Amores Perros

Barry Lyndon

Days of Heaven

The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie

Jackie Brown

Novocento

Trainspotting

Volver

by Anonymousreply 21July 20, 2025 3:23 PM

Shouldn’t desert island films be ones you would want to watch all the way through more than once?

by Anonymousreply 22July 20, 2025 3:30 PM

Some people listed those movies, R22. I should have listed the Lord of the Rings movies, they are good for mindless rewatches. Also Kill Bill 2.

by Anonymousreply 23July 20, 2025 3:33 PM

Blue Lagoon

Cast Away

Our Girl Friday

Lord of the Flies

Swiss Family Robinson

Swept Away

Robinson Crusoe

Rescue From Gilligan's Island

The Island of Dr Moreau

Muppet Treasure Island

If anything will make you swim away…

If I'm on a desert island, I want gay laughs:

Female Trouble

Pink Flamingos

Girls Will Be Girls

Girls Will Be Girls (YouTube "stalker" film made during entertainment strike)

Huslter White

Cleopatra (1934)

Cleopatra (1963)

The Adventure of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

Polyester

The Women (1939)

Hairspray (1988)

Cabaret

For a start.

But do throw in "Fanny and Alexander," "Serenity," the Three Flavours Cornetto films (Simon Pegg), "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, the first two "Godfather" movies, my top 30 horror movies, and plenty of my favorite genres of porn.
