Gay men in denial who are feeling the pressure - pressure that may have legitimate roots (like growing up in a homophobic environment) but is now mostly in their head which is spinning so fast from fear that they might be found out.

I wonder if he's "in denial" or merely closeted, though I realize there's overlap and not everyone differentiates. In denial - he's fighting himself, he would never self-identify as gay, he compartmentalizes gay sex and is negative about it after it happens. Closeted - he's accepted that's he's gay or "same sex loving" or "has sex with men," at least to a degree, but fears (rationally or not) the repercussions of admitting he's gay.
