'Squid Game' season 2

Feels like I watched the first season a lifetime ago.

[quote]Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 gave up going to the States and comes back with a new resolution in his mind. Gi-hun once again dives into the mysterious survival game, starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 33 million dollars.

Out December 26th.

Began watching last night, OP! Halfway through ep 2.

Wi Ha-joon stills floats my boat.

by Anonymousreply 2December 27, 2024 4:02 AM

R2 Also T.O.P, Kang Ha-neul, and Im Si-wan can get it too.

by Anonymousreply 3December 27, 2024 4:06 AM

Why did he enter again? Makes no sense.

by Anonymousreply 4December 27, 2024 4:22 AM

Squid Games is one of those series that is not watchable the 2nd time around. So much around the stunt if really dying. I hate Squid Games actually now.

by Anonymousreply 5December 27, 2024 4:23 AM

R5 = oh, dear

by Anonymousreply 6December 31, 2024 1:38 AM

** Minor Spoiler Alert ** This is the worst possible follow-up to Season 1 with the most disappointing and dumbfounding ending. The show dragged like molasses in Winter. I watched all 7 episodes hoping for some kind of satisfying, if not necessarily happy, conclusion. The ending felt like somebody suddenly turned off the power in the middle of an episode. What the fuck?

by Anonymousreply 7December 31, 2024 2:31 AM

R7 I had the same reaction. The end of episode 7 was a non-ending and I was sure I was overlooking an episode 8.

Googling it, I found out this was intentional. The creators wrote seasons 2 and 3 in a single story arc and decided to end season 2 there, abruptly. Season 3 will begin (I assume) right where this left off. It will be released sometime in 2025.

I enjoyed this. I remember being really caught up in season 1, which was released in 2021.

It’s impossible for the second go-round to have the same impact the debut did.

This time things feel more contrived and there more of an emphasis on melodrama. But I still enjoyed watching it immensely.

by Anonymousreply 10January 2, 2025 12:55 AM

Some sequences in Season 2 were extremely drawn out, more than necessary in my opinion, the voting segments for example. After the reading the article at R9, I bet they shot the whole story as a single season and then realized they had to split it, so they stretched S2 through editing to allow for 2 seasons out of 1.

by Anonymousreply 11January 2, 2025 1:53 AM

I’m currently watching this. It’s good.

by Anonymousreply 12January 2, 2025 2:26 PM

[quote]Season 3 will begin (I assume) right where this left off. It will be released sometime in 2025.

Then I shall wait to watch Season 2 until Season 3 is released.

by Anonymousreply 13January 2, 2025 2:28 PM

Excellent idea R13. I wish someone had warned me.

by Anonymousreply 14January 2, 2025 5:13 PM

That Merry Go 'Round game. Good Lord! I think the actress playing the old mother is the performance of this season.

by Anonymousreply 15January 4, 2025 9:01 PM

Agreed r15

That old Asian lady is a powerhouse actress

by Anonymousreply 16January 4, 2025 9:08 PM

Rosie hated it and bashed it on Tik-Toke and whatever Rosie says goes!

by Anonymousreply 17January 4, 2025 9:42 PM

I can't even remember what happened in Season One. I hate when they take so long to bring back a series.

by Anonymousreply 18January 5, 2025 4:22 AM

T.O.P. was at his best as a member of Big Bang.

by Anonymousreply 19January 5, 2025 4:49 AM

I didn’t realize T.O.P was in it. He’s hot asf. Is the hot guy who slapped people in the first one in it?

by Anonymousreply 20January 5, 2025 5:35 AM

R20 only in the first episode

by Anonymousreply 21January 5, 2025 1:06 PM

The first episode of season 2 was well done and I thought very engaging. Some great scenes. The second episode I thought really dragged. The most intense game scene was the six-legs one. I loved how everyone was cheering each other on even though people were getting shot all round them… by that time we knew a lot of the characters well… very intense! The merry go round one was equally great for similar reasons.

by Anonymousreply 22January 5, 2025 2:28 PM

I think Kang Ha-neul (as Dae-ho) is really hot. I didn’t notice him initially when he first showed up, I think in episode 3. But he slowly grew on me!

[QUOTE] I can't even remember what happened in Season One. I hate when they take so long to bring back a series.

It’s called going back and watching season one, R18. I mean what the fuck, it’s Netflix. This ain’t broadcast TV in the 90s. It’s sitting right there. I went on a Squid Games binge the week before the new season came out to get me ready for it.

If there’s a long break between seasons, then you should always do a rewatch. At the very least, you rewatch the last season finale.

by Anonymousreply 24January 5, 2025 9:06 PM

R24 has stated her boundaries for Netflix viewing!

by Anonymousreply 25January 5, 2025 9:31 PM

The YouTube/crypto guy is hot

by Anonymousreply 26January 5, 2025 10:17 PM

I’ve never watched this it seems depressing. The billboards on sunset look like shit.

by Anonymousreply 27January 5, 2025 10:33 PM

I watched it and thought it was quite a bit better than I was expecting, based on its generally negative reviews. I already knew they'd have to do it much differently given how completely novel the first season was in every way, and putting Gi-hun back in the game obviously meant he'd see any of the games from the first season coming. That btw is one of countless plot holes in the sequel. He makes a name for himself as the supposed winner of an earlier game, but stupidly "predicts" the games will be identical, as if he's someone STILL oblivious that the game is entirely about control OF the players, not BY the players.

I also knew going in that it ended on a cliffhanger and, like a number of other recent series, opted to shoot a single "jumbo-sized season" and then announce after the fact that the third season's already in the can. (They did that a few months ago with "The Diplomat," which also ended up a huge cliffhanger.) And I knew it had two fewer episodes, which seems to be a "thing" at present. See, also, "House of the Dragon," though that one was cut short because of the writers' strike; "Squid Game" was wholly produced in South Korean and exempt.

I know suspension of disbelief is necessary on a show like this one, but considering *I* figured out "Captain Park" was a mole by his second scene, I thought it was absurd that Jun-ho – an actual police detective FFS! – didn't have the slightest clue. Also, why the AF have they spent literal years driving a boat (!) around Korea's 3,300 islands (!!) trying to find the one where the games where held? Gi-hun is extremely rich! Why didn't he at least rent a helicopter or prop plane for the search? (Rhetorical question: I know the answer is "plot contrivance to explain his lack of progress.") I'm glad they brought Jun-ho back, because he's hot AF (albeit no Slap Daddy), but his oh-so-convenient "amnesia" seems stolen from an American soap opera.

R27, do you seriously never watch anything that's "depressing"? Does that mean you've never seen anything made in South Korea? (Its two most famous exports, "Parasite" and "Snowpiercer," are just as extreme, and the latter includes an absurdist perpetual motion bullet train circling a post-apocalyptic Earth.) The first season was extraordinarily cruel & cynical, but that's also why it was such a blockbuster: they took a concept not that dissimilar from "Saw" but adapted it to incorporate children's games. It's still mass murder (over 450 people gunned down), but hey, at least it's more fun!

by Anonymousreply 28January 5, 2025 10:54 PM

r28, you've neglected, "Old Boy" championed by Tarantino, won at Cannes, and spawned an inferior American remake.

by Anonymousreply 29January 5, 2025 11:27 PM

Cast tries American food.

The cop can fuck me silly.

by Anonymousreply 31January 13, 2025 2:25 AM

You really have to watch season 1 first. I forgot so much. Now season 2 is much better after having rewatched S1.

by Anonymousreply 32January 14, 2025 2:40 AM

Season 2 was really good and better than I expected. I didn’t really love the direction it took in the last episode because it reminded me of Westworld and how crappy the series got when they stopped playing the game.

by Anonymousreply 33January 14, 2025 2:42 AM

Purple hair and YouTube guy can get it anytime.

by Anonymousreply 34January 14, 2025 10:55 AM

[QUOTE] You really have to watch season 1 first. I forgot so much. Now season 2 is much better after having rewatched S1.

Tell that to R25.

The people who just dived into season 2 without rewatching season 1 really did themselves a disservice. I forgot so much about season 1 that I would’ve been lost. Many pivotal moments, like the big reveal of Frontman being the new Number 1, wouldn’t have hit me since I didn’t remember what he looked like without his mask.

by Anonymousreply 35January 14, 2025 4:29 PM

R35 Exactly!!!!! I am rewatching S2 now and it's 99999% better after refreshing S1.

456 has to know 001 is another organizational player.

by Anonymousreply 36January 14, 2025 5:32 PM

I don’t think he does, R36. No way he would’ve done what he did knowing this guy could shoot him in the back at any moment.

by Anonymousreply 37January 14, 2025 11:12 PM

R37 I don’t think he feels like he would shoot him in the back. Kind of like the old man wouldn’t have hurt him.

by Anonymousreply 38January 14, 2025 11:17 PM

Ohhh I see now. 456 maybe thinks he’s apart of the organization somehow, but doesn’t know he’s actually the Frontman. Yeah I guess that’s possible.

by Anonymousreply 39January 15, 2025 12:36 AM

I knew 001 was the main guy because of his hands- he has beautiful hands.

by Anonymousreply 40January 15, 2025 3:37 PM

So now, not only do I need to wait for season 3 to understand season 2, but I also need to re-watch season 1?

That will almost certainly not happen.

by Anonymousreply 41January 15, 2025 3:40 PM

R41 Your loss. S1 is great, and it has been 3 years so you forget a lot that happened. It was worth it for me.

There’s supposed to be a real twist/shocker.

by Anonymousreply 42January 15, 2025 9:30 PM

Jesus, season 1 was literally some of the most exciting television ever created. That’s why the show took the world by storm. It’s not like you gotta wade through some overly long, boring series like that Kevin Costner “American Horizon” bullshit. Squid Games goes down quick and easy like a prostitute.

by Anonymousreply 43January 17, 2025 1:15 PM

There's zero way you remember enough to enjoy S2 without rewatching S1.

by Anonymousreply 44January 17, 2025 3:17 PM

Already the third most watched season ever on Netflix.

After watching this and the Korean zombie series. I find Korean guys very sexy.

by Anonymousreply 46January 18, 2025 7:36 PM

What’s the Korean zombie series, R46?

by Anonymousreply 47January 18, 2025 7:51 PM

I liked the Shamaness of the Sea. She was fun.

by Anonymousreply 48January 18, 2025 7:54 PM

R47 All Of Us Are Dead. It’s really good.

by Anonymousreply 49January 18, 2025 8:01 PM

Ah I thought you were talking about "Kingdom", which is a gorgeous Korean program along the lines of Game of Thrones, sans dragons.

by Anonymousreply 50January 19, 2025 2:05 AM

I went into Season 2 with trepidation after seeing some reviews but ended up loving it. I liked the new cast and new twists. Some great looking guys like Gong-Yoo (the recruiter), Kang Ha-Neul, and T.O.P., who is ridiculously charismatic. I haven’t enjoyed a bad guy so much since JR Ewing.

I think they’re being disingenuous saying there is a Season Three. It’s pretty clear that this is all one season that Netflix told them to break in two. That would explain why the first two episodes took so much time setting up the story.

by Anonymousreply 51February 1, 2025 12:48 PM

If you like the recruiter/slap guy played by Gong Yoo, watch “Train to Busan”. He is the lead and so damn hot.
