They're showing this on Pluto TV. How did anyone ever watch this show? I watched it as a kid in the 80's, but it's completely laugh free. I will say Kirk Cameron was always cute. He looks like the kind of person who never had an awkward phase in his life.
Growing Pains

It was awful, but we were kids and there were only three networks and no internet. Our choices were very limited.

This gay boy watched it for Alan Thicke. Blew more than one load over that man.
(I liked Joanna Kerns, too, but I was gay.)

Growing Pains makes the Cosby show look like Breaking Bad. That’s how fucking bunz they were.

Bunz?

Kirk found religion while on Growing Pains and then became an obnoxious bully.
He forced the producers to fire the woman who played his girlfriend because she had posed for playboy.

Vanilla. Soft, cookie cutter

Matthew Perry died on a very special episode.

I loved their opening theme, although season 1 with the old pictures sucked.

I knew as a kid that this show was terrible and I rarely watched it as well as Full House and many other family sitcoms. Just completely mindless and dumb.

It was bad but I watched the first few seasons. I can't remember what it aired before or after (Who's The Boss? maybe) but as kids we would watch both.
Kirk was cute but I was there for adorkable Boner

Kirk was not having it with the Playboy model co-star but had no problem with a supporting character named Boner. What a filthy sinner!!!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 28, 2024 3:17 PM |
I always thought Kirk must've been molested in order to turn out the way he did.

R2, lots of people had cable by the mid-1980s when Growing Pains was on
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 28, 2024 3:33 PM |
Cable didn't have a lot of original programming back then, and a lot of people still didn't have it.

Julie McCullough -- she also played a pregnant teenager on an episode of THE GOLDEN GIRLS whom they take in after her dad kicks her out.

At batshit as he is now, Kirk is more attractive with facial hair. I never got the hype over him being a sex symbol. He had poodle hair at one point.
Just the Ten of Us, the spinoff of this show, is a million times better.

Funny, I'd say He looks like the kind of person whose entire life was just one long awkward phase.

Growing Pains was Leonardo Dicaprio's first big acting gig. They brought him in because Jeremy Miller, who played the youngest son, turned into an ugly little troll when he hit his teens and they needed a cute teen for heartthrob bait for the girls who watched the show. Kirk Cameron was in his early 20s by then and aging out of teen heartthrob status.

I discovered Growing Pains on cable.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 28, 2024 5:04 PM |
I remember it, but I don’t recall the dialog or humor other than Kirk’s character calling Tracy’s character fat all the time.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 28, 2024 5:07 PM |
Which led, it is claimed, to Tracey Gold's eating disorder.
Cameron is just a shit every way you look at it.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 28, 2024 5:21 PM |
Kirk would say to Tracey "your people killed my Lord and Savior!"

R22 he also called her ugly all the time. Such a positive, wholesome family show.

I always perceived Rod and Todd Flanders from “The Simpsons” to be patterned on the looks and subsequent piety of Kirk Cameron.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 28, 2024 5:45 PM |
Fuck, this show was unwatchable. Kirk Cameron was very cute, though, and Alan Thicke had a majestically hairy chest.
I had no idea that Boner committed suicide. He sounds like the type of person who was so empathetic that the human misery he witnessed consumed him. He would have turned 56 this year. RIP
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 28, 2024 5:52 PM |
There was nothing ugly about Jeremy Miller as he got older.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 28, 2024 11:40 PM |
Tracy Gold was a real porker.
