I enjoyed it until S3. Has it jumped the shark?
Murders in the Building-When did you give up?

I'm only on season 2, but loving it as it is a great distraction from the horrid world we live in
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 27, 2024 3:30 AM |
After season 1.5. Can't believe this is still on. I really thought it was a one season lark for that cast but I guess $$ talks. Long since lost interest.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | November 27, 2024 3:32 AM |
Season 4 was fun but maybe a bit too meta. And they keep introducing plot twists that don’t get resolved in that season. I hope they don’t forget them and have some master plan for the eventual conclusion.
I also hope they cut back on the celebrity guests for season 5. It’s such an odd mix when you have a combination of celebrities playing both themselves and characters.

I was out when Selena Gomez character turned surprise Lesbian. Seemed desperate.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | November 27, 2024 3:47 AM |
I got bored with Selena Gomez. She's completely untalented.

I want an apartment at The Arconia.

I saw this last season and thought it was endless. It only has the standard 10 episodes but it seemed like years
by Anonymous | reply 7 | November 27, 2024 4:11 AM |
Bailed near end of Season 2. I just lost interest. I think it was Martin Short and his scenery chewing that grated enough for me to finally realize that I don’t give a crap who dies and who killed them anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | November 27, 2024 4:27 AM |
I loved it. Silly fun. But I gave up Hulu earlier this year.
I watched more Netflix, Amazon and Apple shows and I decided one needed to get the chop. Hulu was out.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | November 27, 2024 5:07 AM |
I slapped Selena’s face
by Anonymous | reply 10 | November 27, 2024 1:09 PM |
I normally get annoyed by Martin Short but the role fits him well.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | November 27, 2024 2:11 PM |
i agree
by Anonymous | reply 12 | November 27, 2024 2:30 PM |
The first two seasons are enjoyable, in spite of Short (who I can just barely tolerate). After that it's been very disappointing with too many superfluous characters (Season 4 is full of them) and episodes that do nothing to further the plot.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | November 27, 2024 7:50 PM |
Are they sexy at least?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | November 27, 2024 7:52 PM |
Three episodes into Season 3. The whole Broadway schlock was a bore and it veered away from what made the show charming and fun which was these two old coots paired up up with a young Millennial solving crimes through a podcast. They barely shared any screen time through the episodes I watched and I got bored and realized that the magic dust had worn off.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | November 27, 2024 7:58 PM |
Figures it would jump the shark once M joined the cast...
by Anonymous | reply 16 | November 27, 2024 8:47 PM |
I gave up when I was murdered in my building.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | November 27, 2024 9:40 PM |
I never watched it, I saw that Selena junkie whore was in it.
No fucking way I'm going watch Selena I don't have lupus, bought a liver from my cousin for 100,000 dollars because I'm a drunken druggie slag.

Short can be amusing in a small supporting role but not as a main character.

by Anonymous | reply 21 | November 28, 2024 1:58 PM |
This last season was just way too complex a story. It needs to be charming, not head scratching
by Anonymous | reply 22 | November 28, 2024 4:23 PM |
Season three got me all in a tizzy
by Anonymous | reply 23 | November 28, 2024 4:50 PM |
I finished it, it’s a good distraction. Martin and Short are magic together. But I can’t count the number of scenes where Gomez read her lines off camera, not making eye contact with the others. And she doesn’t come off as an “artist” at all. TPTB should have made her character a bored daughter of a billionaire instead.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | November 28, 2024 5:04 PM |
I love it as a distraction considering the world we are in
by Anonymous | reply 25 | November 28, 2024 6:40 PM |
I just enjoy Steve Martin and Marty Short together. The rest is window dressing.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | November 28, 2024 7:08 PM |
I hope season 5 grounds things a bit more. Season 4 was convoluted.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | November 28, 2024 7:24 PM |
I liked Season 4 but I don't care for Eugene Levy or Zach Galifankis (sp). Selena Gomez grew on me. I think she got better over the four seasons.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | November 28, 2024 7:33 PM |
Well she certainly couldn't have gotten worse. She delivers her lines in monotone like she has no idea what the words mean.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | November 28, 2024 8:06 PM |
Sazz was fun in small doses, but I’m not going to miss Jane Lynch.

Which is EXACTLY in character.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | November 28, 2024 10:52 PM |
Yes, I believe the monotone thing is supposed to be her character.
Except she does close to the monotone thing in the movie Emilia Perez too

Don’t give up
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 3, 2024 2:38 AM |
I was done by the end of S1. It just shows you how lazy and venal (and desperate, I guess) Steve and Marty have become that they can accept the tepid and worse scripts handed to them. So much potential talent in all departments and this is what they give us.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | December 3, 2024 2:47 AM |
I personally have been a ride-or-die superfan of the show since Ep 1 S 1. Loved the first three seasons and the Arconia-as-character. Love the world-building and side characters. However, Season 4 STANK to HIGH HEAVEN. I got through it, but it was a hate-watch. The inclusion of all the celebrities, Melissa McCarthy as Steve Martin's sister, Paul Rudd as the stund double for the Paul Rudd character from last season...it was so annoying and self-aware. I agree with other posters that the show worked originally because it was small and charming, and focused almost entirely on banter between the three leads. This shit was wayyyyyyy to conplicated, too many characters and B plots. And killing Sazz?! Horrible. Too morbid and dark, even for a show about murder. The way Oliver goes "Well, you know what this means, pod cast time!" after Charles' best friend on earth has been brutally murdered in Charles' own apartment. Just so flippant. Oh, I hated that entire premise with a passion.
I would have been thrilled with just the plot about the Westies in the West annex and how weird they were and what was the truth about them. Richard Kind et al. Perfect. Give me only that. Not the star-studded LA movie bullshit. There were so many characters that Steve and Marty's lines were reduced by like 70%. They became side characters in their own fucking show. Hated it. Praying that Season 5 is better.

Around the episode where Martin Short and Meryl Streep went on a date. I just lost interest. I should probably give it another go, though. I enjoyed the first season.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | December 3, 2024 11:55 AM |
I made it through the first season, but it was a slog. One thing that struck me was the language. I’m not a prude and the word fuck is a wonderful thing, but this show had the cast and premise of something you could have sat down and watched with grandma if not for that. I’m showing my age I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | December 3, 2024 12:32 PM |
Did you slap Selma?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | December 3, 2024 1:10 PM |
I didn't bother continuing onto the second season. I felt like it should have been a miniseries with a complete story arc.

It's always been downhill after the clever opening credits which promise so much...
by Anonymous | reply 53 | December 3, 2024 2:05 PM |
Loved seasons 1 and 2. The plots were intriguing, and the relationships between the three lead characters endearing. I'm sure Gomez' monotonous delivery is supposed to be the antidote to Martin Short's flamboyance. Not sure she nails it, but she is certainly effective in this trio. The Arconia is the fourth character, and they neglected it in the fourth season. In my opinion, none of the celebrity guest stars worked in S04. It was almost like the show got a major budget boost and had no idea what to do with it.
Season 3 was a bit of a dive, with season 4 even further departing from the original premise. The show works best when it stays within the building. Taking the stories outside has not worked well for the show. I hope they bring the show back to the basics for a last hurrah. Considering the murder victim, there is a chance that the show stays indoors again.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | December 3, 2024 2:16 PM |
I agree with you, R54, the Arconia is critically important to the feel and success of the show. Where our opinions differ is, I thought Season 3 was charming as hell. The Broadway angle was wonderful, it allowed Oliver (Martin Short) to really shine and have a purpose (with predictably comedic results). And to see Charles Hayden Savage treading the boards in an Oliver Putnam show was delightful. Then we have Meryl who really was a cute addition. I loved the patter song about the Pickwit Triplets. It was a joy.
Season Four, however was a miserable slog.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | December 3, 2024 2:27 PM |
I thought S03 had its moments. The announcement of Meryl Streep made me worry that her mere appearance would make the entire show steer off course. But they added her to a well measured extent. It was S04 when all the stars cluttered the story lines. But I thought that S03 already lost focus with adding all the theater aspects. (Meryl Streep's song was gay gold though.)
by Anonymous | reply 56 | December 3, 2024 2:50 PM |
This last season bored the shit out of me. The previous season was spectacular. This one though. Ooph. More red herrings, no humor, an experiment in tedium. I just didn’t care.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | December 3, 2024 3:01 PM |
I thought it was original, fun and charming until Season 4. The whole "Dudenoff" thing with the Hispanic trio and Sazz murder thing was overly complicated and uninteresting.
