As an Italian American I found this tradition extremely odd and bizarre. From what I read, parents did this to their young sons before trying to get the church to accept them as an alter boy or whatever title they were given. Imagine if the Church said, no thanks.

I also don't get the rational that his voice sounds better than a woman's because it's high pitched but strong? Angelic? Not what I am hearing.
