Best Cream To Prevent Wound From Becoming Scar?

A dermatologist removed a red spot off the front of my nose, about the size of a pencil eraser tip. I'm using Aquaphor per their suggestion, but is there something else better to help it help and not be red / turn into a scar?

There is something called Scar Therapy out there - silicone patches with Vitamin E in them, or some other substance - that you place on a healing would to help keep scarring at bay. They do work - I used them several years ago after minor abdominal surgery, on laproscopic marks, and they worked very well.

If it's a tiny red spot, probably wont scar much. There's so much quick turn over of facial skin cells that it takes a major cut to scar

Aquaphor is great - you will do well with it. Also, use Arnica (tablets), helps with the bruising and healing process.

I've had facial treatments on my face so aware of what is needed...boy needs to look good living in Los Angeles.

Aloe. And not just a cream or ointment with aloe in the name. Get something with a high concentration.

And then use sunscreen with SPF 50 religiously for the next year to prevent the scar once healed from darkening over time.

steroid cremes prevent inflammation but also can't be used over a long period

Manuka honey (medical version)

by Anonymousreply 6November 22, 2024 7:43 PM

Siligen but you have to start using it immediately. You should have had it removed by a plastic surgeon who would have recommended it.

by Anonymousreply 7November 22, 2024 7:57 PM

I agree with the above recommendations for Vitamin E and Manuka honey

Mederma works well too, OP. Good luck. I have very pale skin and everything scars initially. That ointment has worked well for me and even smells nice.

Manuka honey did wonders for my friend's monkey pox sores in his dick.

by Anonymousreply 10November 22, 2024 9:20 PM

It has to be aged at least 17 years to be most readily available.

by Anonymousreply 11November 22, 2024 9:27 PM

2nd for Mederma here.

by Anonymousreply 12November 22, 2024 9:46 PM

Agree with Aquaphor.

Bio-Oil

This product is good. If you were serious I guess you’d use it in combination with other approaches, but it’s good.

I started adding antibiotic ointment to my lotion when I put it on my legs with never ending scratch marks and I see a difference. The scratch marks were months old.

BIO-OIL!!!. We used to always scream this when the commercial came on.

by Anonymousreply 19November 22, 2024 11:08 PM

aloe or vitamin e

by Anonymousreply 20November 22, 2024 11:23 PM

R18 what the hell is scratching up your legs.?!

by Anonymousreply 21November 24, 2024 3:57 PM

I had eye surrgery and the doctor said to use silicone scar gel, which right on the package says do not use near eyes lol.

by Anonymousreply 22November 24, 2024 4:15 PM

Neosporin, maybe.

If your skin is prone to scarring, there's not much you can do.

Just avoid scratching, etc. Let it heal undisturbed.

Arnica & Mederma. It’s what all dermatologists & plastic surgeons suggest in L.A., the capital of plastic surgery.

Bio Oil

by Anonymousreply 25November 24, 2024 6:59 PM

Put whatever ointment you decide from these posts and cover it with silicone tape.

by Anonymousreply 26November 24, 2024 7:07 PM

What worked for me was Vaseline cocoa butter and generic vitamin E oil with silicone scar tape. But it was for a large surgical scar; I’m not sure if OP can get scar tape on their nose, R26.
