Madonna announces she can’t get her biopic off the ground

@madonna After struggling for days in LA , listening to producers and agents Tell me why I couldn’t make my film —I(been working on it for 4 years!!!) downsize-down scale -think smaller-they say—I realized that everything in my life is going to be challenged. No easy rides for me. I guess I should be grateful.. It forces me to think outside the box. I did not have a normal life.

I cannot make this in the normal way.

Spending time with my creative friends was just the fuel I needed to keep going!

We all agreed that we need to be even more fearless!!!

Art =Survival

We cannot shrink and make ourselves smaller. If you want something badly enough in life— the whole universe will conspire to hel you get it.

Should I make the story of my life into a series or a feature Film. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Think before you answer !!

It should be a porn film.

"Madge's 50,000-Load Year."

by Anonymousreply 1November 19, 2024 10:21 PM

So brave.

by Anonymousreply 2November 19, 2024 10:25 PM

All her life is too long for a movie. And much of it seems uninteresting. She has a few creative high points after 40. Depends on how honest she wants to be will say how interesting the story will be. Will she tell the GRITTY truth about the many boytoys? Will she speak of the waste of Kabala? Her last, greatest hits tour could have some touching and true moments and she did end in triumph in Rio.

by Anonymousreply 3November 19, 2024 10:28 PM

I like the honesty. Its something dear to her heart thats not working out for her and we can all relate to that and feel a little less inadequate knowing everyone has their obstacles.

by Anonymousreply 4November 19, 2024 10:31 PM

Madonna has friends?

by Anonymousreply 5November 19, 2024 10:39 PM

I still love the old broad. Her last decade was iffy.

But maybe this would be better as a series. Her ups and downs.

If it’s a movie, it will be tricky to get it all into 2 hrs.

by Anonymousreply 6November 19, 2024 10:45 PM

If JLO can put up or have someone put up over $20 million for her movie, then Madonna can find the cash for hers or back it herself. She should be close to a billionaire by now, unless her money has been horribly mismanaged.

Also, Biopics rarely work if the person in question is living. We can never give ourselves a fair look into our own actions so it’s hard to trust the narrator.

by Anonymousreply 7November 19, 2024 10:53 PM

Madonna is a terrible filmmaker and Hollywood knows this. They might be quite interested in biopic or series, but they DO NOT want Madonna too involved.

by Anonymousreply 8November 19, 2024 10:56 PM

I’m just relieved Julia Garner is loose from this.

She’s a very good actress, and I feared this might prove such a bomb that her career would never recover.

by Anonymousreply 9November 19, 2024 11:00 PM

Is there an interesting dramatic arc in here? Her life and career were success after success. Her last couple of year have been a decline, but she is hardly the person to recognize she had a role in it. Also, her life has been fully documented to anyone interested.

by Anonymousreply 10November 19, 2024 11:01 PM

Write a book, you dumb cooze.

by Anonymousreply 11November 19, 2024 11:01 PM

Madonna’s been flopping for over a decade now. Her last three albums bombed. They were dreadful. She ran out of ideas a million years ago. She never recovered from Guy Ritchie.

by Anonymousreply 12November 19, 2024 11:03 PM

She has a rather loose definition of "Art." And "friends." And "struggle."

And taking risks. And "thinking outside of the box." And if the importance and urgency of her little project.

by Anonymousreply 13November 19, 2024 11:17 PM

It's because she can't tell or handle the truth.

She's never been completely honest and open about anything - she's all show and wants you to believe what she wants you to believe.

It's called a lack of authenticity. She lies about SO much stuff.

People today want authentic people - she's still hiding behind these outfits and fucked up filters for Instagram. You can't tell a life story when the person wants to fabricate the whole fucking thing.

by Anonymousreply 14November 19, 2024 11:38 PM

R14 - let me also add - she pretty much stole every look, sound and style.

I remember when she first came out, they didn't put her face on the record because they wanted people to think she was black. As ridiculous as it sounds, she did sing more 'black' and that type of music wasn't mainstream for white people.

So if she's truthful for once - and has the humility to acknowledge how much she has stolen - maybe something can happen. But nah.

by Anonymousreply 15November 19, 2024 11:40 PM

It shouldn't be.

by Anonymousreply 16November 19, 2024 11:50 PM

I'm sure in every version of the script Madonna is a character who can do no wrong and nothing is her fault and every thing she does is groundbreaking and she is so rebellious. No one wants to watch that.

by Anonymousreply 17November 20, 2024 12:20 AM

I'm glad she is failing at this. I hope a real director gets a stab at making her biopic (it will probably happen once she's dead).

by Anonymousreply 18November 20, 2024 12:21 AM

[quote] Madonna announces she can’t get her biopic off the ground

Her biopic or her tits?

by Anonymousreply 19November 20, 2024 12:25 AM

She should die sitting on the toilet or something like that, then it'll get made.

by Anonymousreply 20November 20, 2024 12:27 AM

Who is asking for this??

by Anonymousreply 21November 20, 2024 12:31 AM

I’m in agreement with others that her life simply isn’t very interesting. She marketed everything but her bowel movement. There’s no other story to tell. We’ve seen it all.

by Anonymousreply 22November 20, 2024 12:32 AM

She won't live to tell.

by Anonymousreply 23November 20, 2024 12:35 AM

Rule #1: No more biopics

Rule #2: No biopics of people still alive

Rule #3: Don’t write your own fucking biopic Madonna

by Anonymousreply 24November 20, 2024 12:45 AM

Madonna deserves that huge victory lap celebrating her life/career, letting younger generations know how incredible she was.

But current Madonna makes it very hard to want to do that.

by Anonymousreply 25November 20, 2024 12:47 AM

Madonna divorced in 2008 then dated Jesus Luz 2009-2010. On the album Hard Candy, Madge looked emaciated, old, sad. She was dumped and had hit a wall. The Sticky & Sweet Tour was 2008-2009. You kind of see her getting her mojo back over those two years. This was all around her turning 40 by the way

Perhaps a good bio pic would be a honest look at the events and projects and people of those couple years. It would have to be HONEST.

by Anonymousreply 26November 20, 2024 1:22 AM

[quote] Madonna has friends?

Here are their names she calls them by:

"Driver."

"Publicist."

"Phamarcist."

"Bodyguard."

"Boywhore."

by Anonymousreply 27November 20, 2024 1:24 AM

Try 50, R26. Madonna was born in 1958.

by Anonymousreply 28November 20, 2024 1:24 AM

She can more than afford to pay for it herself.

But maybe, if she hadn't been acting quite so wacky lately, producers would trust her more.

by Anonymousreply 29November 20, 2024 1:25 AM

Oh my, she was turning 50! my bad

by Anonymousreply 30November 20, 2024 1:29 AM

Nobody is going to hand madonna money to make her own bio pic. she is not a good filmmaker and it won't make money. Someone else needs to handle the project. This was the same pushback and failure the was getting before she dropped it all to do a greatest hits tour.

by Anonymousreply 31November 20, 2024 1:31 AM

So 50 is her Norma Desmond period. It would be an interesting period if the attention can be taken away from the early years. I feel like I know the early years quite well.

by Anonymousreply 32November 20, 2024 1:33 AM

Redundant... It was already done.

2. The Glory Years

3. Sad Last Days

by Anonymousreply 34November 20, 2024 1:35 AM

Someone should do a comedy about her "Lady of the Manor" era. Watching her cosplay as a proper English lady was a hoot.

by Anonymousreply 35November 20, 2024 1:52 AM

Madonna wants to play herself. She walked into that meeting wearing a mesh shirt, fingerless gloves, and a tulle skirt. She started doing those Lucky Star moves and they called security to escort her from the building.

by Anonymousreply 36November 20, 2024 1:56 AM

Poor Madonna has no self awareness. She was ambitious and cunty but that would not make a good film. Agree that her life is not that interesting. She became famous, went through marriages, and was/is universally hated in Hollywood. Maybe a movie on just her rise would be good but she would have to show what a slut she was to get her music played by deejays in NY.

When did Madge ever have Baby Jane curls and wear a baseball cap? 😵‍💫😱

by Anonymousreply 42November 20, 2024 2:47 AM

It's funny how little I feel about her anymore. I feel no glow of nostalgia for her the way I do about other divas who aged out of relevance (like Cher or Tina Turner or even Dionne Warwick), even though I liked her music back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 43November 20, 2024 2:50 AM

I agree with everyone saying her life hasn't been very interesting.

by Anonymousreply 44November 20, 2024 3:21 AM

A series would be okay. She could do one for every decade she's been alive. It'll be a twelve episode pick up.

by Anonymousreply 45November 20, 2024 3:50 AM

The problem is that Madonna is a wholly unlikable person.

Ain't nobody got time for that.

by Anonymousreply 46November 20, 2024 4:01 AM

Even Jennifer Aniston would have a more interesting biopic.

by Anonymousreply 47November 20, 2024 4:03 AM

With a $100 million dollar budget + the marketing, the movie would need to make $400 to break even.

Madonna has had a notoriously awful movie career. Even her movies as a director didn’t make a profit.

She’s just unreasonable.

by Anonymousreply 48November 20, 2024 2:46 PM

Won’t be that hard to cram “all of her life” into a 2h-film, as it’s just isn’t that interesting. 80% would be all about her 80s and early 90s successes. Then a quick, cursory look at her 2000s.. and the 2010s + beyond won’t even get a mention.

And scene.

by Anonymousreply 49November 20, 2024 3:01 PM

I still love Madonna.

I wanted her to have a Cher moment in the 2010s.

But the biggest problem has been her material. Once she started working with more mainstream producers and “writing camps”, she started making really basic pop music that Miley and Rihanna and Selena Gomez would pass on.

“Hard Candy” was just a female Justin Timberlake album, “MDNA” had about 5 solid songs and horrible filler, “Rebel Heart” was an absolute disaster, and “Madame X” was ambitious but was just a mess.

“Confessions on a Dance Floor” was her last great album and that was almost 20 years ago! So she’s been slacking for 20 years. And for no reason besides being artistically lazy.

She has had some good songs in there that would have been hits had they been performers by Rihanna or Beyoncé like “Crave” and “Ghost Town” but for the most part they’ve been bad.

by Anonymousreply 50November 20, 2024 3:03 PM

Madonna’s life has been uninteresting? Huh?

by Anonymousreply 51November 20, 2024 3:05 PM

R49 I think the most interesting part of Madonna’s life would be her move to New York City in the late 70s. It’s actually been done to death but that’s because it’s her most interesting.

I’m sure the script she wrote is her victimizing herself and her fight against the patriarchal record companies and media..

by Anonymousreply 52November 20, 2024 3:13 PM

R27 Sometimes we confuse Pharmy 1 with Pharmy 2!

by Anonymousreply 53November 20, 2024 3:15 PM

A two season, 20 episode series about her life would be amazing.

But she'd have to let it be told warts and all, and she probably can't handle that.

by Anonymousreply 54November 20, 2024 3:16 PM

Of it’s true that she has a wealth of approximately 850 million dollars, then she’s FAR richer than any Hollywood celebrity and she could use some 75 million dollars to fund a very big and impressive Biopic without hurting her pocket….

But we know she thinks OTHERS have to pay for the project that SHE is interested in seeing come to life.

by Anonymousreply 55November 20, 2024 3:21 PM

^^^^^^

*If….

by Anonymousreply 56November 20, 2024 3:21 PM

R5 Rebel heart was her only good album from the 2010s. It has some good hits that make it a decent album. I really liked it. The rest were trash.

I particularly hated Hard Candy because after Confessions it was such a slap in the face. Like, how do you go from something by so great to legit trash? Made no sense.

by Anonymousreply 57November 20, 2024 3:32 PM

Sorry, I meant some good tracks. Madonna doesn’t have any hits since”Hung Up” and “Sorry”.

Britney Spears's biopic is going to be a major movie, while Madonna can't get arrested in Hollywood.

Madonna only has herself to blame. Her weird and erratic behavior over the last decade has turned off the general public. Her music still does well, but there's no interest in her personal life because she's not relatable or likable.

by Anonymousreply 61November 20, 2024 4:01 PM

Hard Candy had a few decent tracks but it was really the first in a long long line of Madonna albums where I felt that, instead of her riding the forefront of a wave to bring fresh sounds or a new trend, that she was instead running to catch up to what was already on the scene.

(That's giving her a pass for her experiments on American Life and her disco revival sounds on Confessions.)

Madonna herself isn't interested in who she really is. Her career consists of a series of her "reinventing" herself.

Why would I be interested in something she's not interested in?

by Anonymousreply 64November 20, 2024 4:16 PM

Even the teen girls who were "wanna-bes" are well into their 40s and 50s now and can see Madonna has not evolved as a person.

by Anonymousreply 65November 20, 2024 4:48 PM

R64 - Della, that's an interesting take. Yes, she became famous for being a chameleon with hair, style, music - but at the core, we don't know who she is because of it.

And she likes it that way - nobody really knows her. And frankly - her shtick has gotten old. The trying to shock, the outrageous costumes, the comments made to sound outrageous or brave.

I think they'll do a biopic of her about 10 years after she dies - but she's a long way off from that.

I can't think of another celebrity who was so big and is now seen with mild contempt. Maybe Tom Cruise for me - he's another one of that era where we have no idea who he is - it's all an act and mirrors.

by Anonymousreply 66November 20, 2024 5:37 PM

It's too heavy.

by Anonymousreply 67November 20, 2024 5:39 PM

No one wants to deal with a cantankerous old Virgo trying to control her narrative. Michael Jackson was the same way and look how that turned out for him. Madge if you don't pack it up and leave what little legacy you have untouched, those skeletons will be found by the new generations.

by Anonymousreply 68November 20, 2024 5:47 PM

No one is interested because her whole life is already an open legs.. I mean blouse... I mean book.

by Anonymousreply 69November 20, 2024 5:49 PM

[quote] And frankly - her shtick has gotten old. The trying to shock, the outrageous costumes, the comments made to sound outrageous or brave.

Yup, r66.

And for us to make the observations we have doesn't not diminish her career and stardom. I respect and admire what Madonna has produced in the course of her career.

But even the Mighty Madonna has lost against forces that won't be ignored - Time, Aging, Gravity.

I'm a big fan of Madonna's 2012 Super Bowl Halftime Show. I re-watch it regularly. But that should have been her last performance.

by Anonymousreply 70November 20, 2024 5:51 PM

You would think she would have done some sort of charity work or foundation - but nothing that we're aware of.

Yes, she was outspoken about gay rights in the 80's - but she was stealing a lot of ideas from the community as well.

You don't hear anything about her supporting new artists or really doing anything to help others or help their successes. That's a major red flag when you have the influence and money that she had.

Hell, it sounds like most of her family didn't get much from her.

I hope her brood of kids write a Mommy Dearest about her - but she may have already put legal protections in place to guard against that. I could see her doing that - the money they get will be in a trust, but if they defame her, they no longer have access to any of the money and it goes to X instead.

Better believe she's going to do everything she can to control the narrative from the grave.

by Anonymousreply 71November 20, 2024 5:55 PM

Madonna reportedly asked for $100 million to make the money. “Rocketman” cost $40 million. She’s out of her goddamn mind.

by Anonymousreply 75November 20, 2024 6:22 PM

R71 History will not be kind to her. The only successful stars in their twilight years are the ones to pivot with grace and accept that their original demographic is over it. Look at Snoop Dogg, he's doing it right and making younger fans for a totally different reason than his music. Madge never stops to realize it's time to MOVE ON. The diva schtick and "she's just Madonna" got old long before she was culturally washed up.

by Anonymousreply 76November 20, 2024 6:26 PM

R61 She's shown zero humility and kindness in years and the Millennials and Gen Z don't feel connected to that.

by Anonymousreply 77November 20, 2024 6:28 PM

Is this a porno?

by Anonymousreply 78November 20, 2024 6:35 PM

I won't watch anything she makes. I never watch biopics. Just no interest at all.

by Anonymousreply 79November 20, 2024 6:35 PM

Casting should be cheap. Just get a couple of shop mannequins to play Madonna through her 28 facelifts.

by Anonymousreply 80November 20, 2024 6:57 PM

As a millennial, I never clicked with her. She always seemed fake and doing stunts for the sake of it. Always felt like it was someone I was supposed to like cause "Everyone likes Madonna". Vocally she was beat by many artists. Probably had to be a Gen X gay to truly appreciate her.

by Anonymousreply 81November 20, 2024 7:06 PM

"I AM BIG! IT'S THE PICTURES THAT GOT SMALL!" - Madonna (probably)

by Anonymousreply 82November 20, 2024 7:21 PM

I love her. Not everything has been a success and that's normal. She is a hard worker and had awesome stage shows. Total pro. I hope she gets her auto-biopic made. She has evolved personally and musically. This is even shown in different interpretations of her early songs in her stage shows. I liked W.E. and think she can direct.

by Anonymousreply 83November 20, 2024 7:23 PM

Well how sad. She can't get her biopic off the ground, much like her big surgically enlarged ass.

by Anonymousreply 84November 20, 2024 7:41 PM

[quote]Hard Candy had a few decent tracks but it was really the first in a long long line of Madonna albums where I felt that, instead of her riding the forefront of a wave to bring fresh sounds or a new trend, that she was instead running to catch up to what was already on the scene.

Nelly Furtado did it better 3 years earlier.

by Anonymousreply 85November 20, 2024 7:45 PM

Maybe she can get a bunch of appreciative aging Saudi financiers to back it, just like Mae West did for "Sextette."

The aging West is always the best historical analogy to the aging Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 86November 20, 2024 7:50 PM

R81 - I'm not surprised you feel that way. In the 80's she was bold and unique and sexually expressive and unapologetic about it. It was a form of feminism - plus she embraced cultures and sounds that weren't mainstream.

And when society was ignoring the AIDS crisis and ignoring gays or bashing us, she stood up for us - and there really weren't that many who did that, except Liz Taylor.

To be honest - even then - some of her music was kind of blah and never appealed, but there are some gems among the garbage.

By the 2000's it was ridiculous - with the gold teeth, cowboy hats and shit. "Music" was her last great album - with What It Feels like for a Girl, Don't Tell Me, etc. I actually liked that the most.

But it's funny - for someone who was constantly evolving - she kind of stopped evolving because she kept doing the same stunt behavior.

by Anonymousreply 87November 20, 2024 7:51 PM

Her shtick was always being the bitch who is on top, and once she was no longer on top, she was just a bitch.

by Anonymousreply 88November 20, 2024 7:54 PM

R88 - an incredibly unquenchably THIRSTY bitch at that who thinks she's still on top.

by Anonymousreply 89November 20, 2024 7:59 PM

As a nasty comment - I feel sorry for her adopted kids. They don't have any family but her - she's mom and dad and everything in one. They have no one else to turn to - and part of me feels like that's by design so she can control them and keep their loyalty.

I doubt these kids can say anything to her - because teenagers will set you straight and don't care about your feelings.

I wouldn't be surprised if she has tapes of old concerts and appearances that she watches non-stop, while opening all of the 'selected' fan letters her assistant gives her to read. Then she gets up and touches all of the awards she has laying around. Filling her days getting ridiculous outfits delivered for Instagram shoots.

by Anonymousreply 93November 20, 2024 8:38 PM

One of the best and truest things Boy George ever said was that Madonna wasn't a true revolutionary artist, she just knew how to source and buy the style and trends of now.

As she did in her early years and her mid career, with Bjork and then William Orbit.

by Anonymousreply 94November 20, 2024 9:38 PM

R94 - Boy George is a treasure - his mouth has gotten him into trouble, but he's often right. Although the delivery and irreverence gets him into to trouble every time.

I'd love to hang out with him for an evening.

by Anonymousreply 95November 20, 2024 9:57 PM

Very few actors or directors finance their own films that I’ve heard of, only Coppola and Costner recently come to mind .

by Anonymousreply 96November 20, 2024 9:59 PM

Funny that someone mentioned Elton John's biopic above - I could see how, after watching the Freddie Mercury and Elton John films do so well that she's DYING to get something made of her life.

by Anonymousreply 97November 20, 2024 10:03 PM

Freddie and Elton did a lot of press over the years, but they were recluses compared to Madonna. For many decades now, she's barely had a thought that she hasn't told the press about. There's nothing we haven't heard from her to make a movie about

by Anonymousreply 98November 20, 2024 10:27 PM

I want her to self finance a laughable disaster. I will watch it.

by Anonymousreply 99November 20, 2024 10:57 PM

Madonna is at her peak when it comes to turning people off with her demented old lady antics. Ain't nobody gonna fund her biopic at this point because they assume, correctly, that the public is sick of her and nobody's going to buy a ticket to get more of her.

by Anonymousreply 100November 22, 2024 12:02 AM

I have hung out with Boy George. He's very charming and a bit mischievous. When he wants to be. Also he's not a snob. But as we all know he has a debauched grungy authentically punk - or scrappy artist - side to his character and behaviour. Also he reminds me of Edmund White of all people. Edmund was such a charming name dropper in his heyday and was right about a lot of what he said and he was a very naughty boy.

by Anonymousreply 101November 22, 2024 12:20 AM

R101 Boy George knows when to pull away and not boast in public, very British manners. Madge is a bull in a china shop thinking this is still 1992 and she has something to prove. We've seen her act before and we know she has nothing left that will excite us or make us wonder who the real Madonna is. She's an empty aging husk. I fear for her kids.

by Anonymousreply 102November 22, 2024 4:21 AM

But where’s Boy George now? Come on. Madonna can buy him and sell him. Let’s not make Boy George into some musical genius.

by Anonymousreply 103November 22, 2024 4:31 AM

We haven’t heard her story from her point of view. Maybe a documentary would be better.

Why on earth would she need $100M for a biopic? It doesn’t need special effects or even large crowds (those could be edited in from her filmed concerts). My hunch is that she doesn’t actually have a plan,

R81 Cause millennials like authentic pop stars like Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and Taylor Swift. They’re not phony at all.

Thing is, Madonna’s not dead and that’s what separates her from her peers.

Whitney and Michael’s images and public perception have changed since their deaths.

And the irony is Michael and Whitney were way more fucked up than Madonna.

I feel like Madonna is in uncharted territory. She’s a woman of the 80’s.

Like what is she supposed to do? Sit at home in a rocking chair and read the Bible?

Being in your late 60’s, being rich and getting facelifts and banging younger men and isn’t all that embarrassing to me.

Madonna has no self awareness. She’s so serious and yet clueless. Cher can laugh at herself and seems grounded. Madonna - despite massive wealth and success- always has a chip on her shoulder.

Madge, honey, put DOWN the crack pipe.

And maybe take a course in English or something about rational thinking.

What kind of thin, wrinkled crepe is she wearing on here left arm in the Instagram photo? Kind of a gray, beige loose fabric hanging off her.

Wait.

Oh.

It's her bare arm.

When did the upside-down triangle become the preferred photoshop face shape for old cows?

by Anonymousreply 112November 22, 2024 3:29 PM

I actually didn’t hate the two movies she directed. They were sort of minor curiosities.

by Anonymousreply 113November 22, 2024 3:31 PM

For a biopic to work the subject has to be likable in some manner-

I respect Madonnas success and incredible catalogue of great pop and dance music. But she is thoroughly unlikeable.

R54 if they hire an attractive actress of 50 and gorgeous young actors to play all her boytoys. I would like to see the relationship nuances. She did a lot of sports and travel with Brahim Zaibat.

She wants $100 million so she can play herself and pay someone to de-age her.

is that true R116. Or you are making a good joke.

by Anonymousreply 117November 22, 2024 5:02 PM

That was my thought too, R116.

[quote] No one wants to deal with a cantankerous old Virgo trying to control her narrative.

She's worse than a Virgo; she's a self-absorbed Leo.

I knew this biopic would be stuck in development hell once Diablo Cody abandoned this sinking ship.

Know what would be grand? For Boy George to make the biopic of Madonna's life. Now THAT I would love to see.

by Anonymousreply 124November 28, 2024 2:40 AM

Nor her ass.
