So brave.

All her life is too long for a movie. And much of it seems uninteresting. She has a few creative high points after 40. Depends on how honest she wants to be will say how interesting the story will be. Will she tell the GRITTY truth about the many boytoys? Will she speak of the waste of Kabala? Her last, greatest hits tour could have some touching and true moments and she did end in triumph in Rio.

I like the honesty. Its something dear to her heart thats not working out for her and we can all relate to that and feel a little less inadequate knowing everyone has their obstacles.

Madonna has friends?

I still love the old broad. Her last decade was iffy.

But maybe this would be better as a series. Her ups and downs.

If it’s a movie, it will be tricky to get it all into 2 hrs.

If JLO can put up or have someone put up over $20 million for her movie, then Madonna can find the cash for hers or back it herself. She should be close to a billionaire by now, unless her money has been horribly mismanaged.

Also, Biopics rarely work if the person in question is living. We can never give ourselves a fair look into our own actions so it’s hard to trust the narrator.

Madonna is a terrible filmmaker and Hollywood knows this. They might be quite interested in biopic or series, but they DO NOT want Madonna too involved.

I’m just relieved Julia Garner is loose from this.

She’s a very good actress, and I feared this might prove such a bomb that her career would never recover.

Is there an interesting dramatic arc in here? Her life and career were success after success. Her last couple of year have been a decline, but she is hardly the person to recognize she had a role in it. Also, her life has been fully documented to anyone interested.

Write a book, you dumb cooze.

Madonna’s been flopping for over a decade now. Her last three albums bombed. They were dreadful. She ran out of ideas a million years ago. She never recovered from Guy Ritchie.

She has a rather loose definition of "Art." And "friends." And "struggle."

And taking risks. And "thinking outside of the box." And if the importance and urgency of her little project.

It's because she can't tell or handle the truth.

She's never been completely honest and open about anything - she's all show and wants you to believe what she wants you to believe.

It's called a lack of authenticity. She lies about SO much stuff.

People today want authentic people - she's still hiding behind these outfits and fucked up filters for Instagram. You can't tell a life story when the person wants to fabricate the whole fucking thing.

R14 - let me also add - she pretty much stole every look, sound and style.

I remember when she first came out, they didn't put her face on the record because they wanted people to think she was black. As ridiculous as it sounds, she did sing more 'black' and that type of music wasn't mainstream for white people.

So if she's truthful for once - and has the humility to acknowledge how much she has stolen - maybe something can happen. But nah.

It shouldn't be.

I'm sure in every version of the script Madonna is a character who can do no wrong and nothing is her fault and every thing she does is groundbreaking and she is so rebellious. No one wants to watch that.

I'm glad she is failing at this. I hope a real director gets a stab at making her biopic (it will probably happen once she's dead).

I’m in agreement with others that her life simply isn’t very interesting. She marketed everything but her bowel movement. There’s no other story to tell. We’ve seen it all.

Madonna deserves that huge victory lap celebrating her life/career, letting younger generations know how incredible she was.

But current Madonna makes it very hard to want to do that.

Madonna divorced in 2008 then dated Jesus Luz 2009-2010. On the album Hard Candy, Madge looked emaciated, old, sad. She was dumped and had hit a wall. The Sticky & Sweet Tour was 2008-2009. You kind of see her getting her mojo back over those two years. This was all around her turning 40 by the way

Perhaps a good bio pic would be a honest look at the events and projects and people of those couple years. It would have to be HONEST.

Nobody is going to hand madonna money to make her own bio pic. she is not a good filmmaker and it won't make money. Someone else needs to handle the project. This was the same pushback and failure the was getting before she dropped it all to do a greatest hits tour.

So 50 is her Norma Desmond period. It would be an interesting period if the attention can be taken away from the early years. I feel like I know the early years quite well.

Someone should do a comedy about her "Lady of the Manor" era. Watching her cosplay as a proper English lady was a hoot.

Madonna wants to play herself. She walked into that meeting wearing a mesh shirt, fingerless gloves, and a tulle skirt. She started doing those Lucky Star moves and they called security to escort her from the building.

Poor Madonna has no self awareness. She was ambitious and cunty but that would not make a good film. Agree that her life is not that interesting. She became famous, went through marriages, and was/is universally hated in Hollywood. Maybe a movie on just her rise would be good but she would have to show what a slut she was to get her music played by deejays in NY.

Crack open that bank account and fund it yourself if you are sure it will be a hit.

Everyone knows that you NEVER use your own money to produce a show.

It's funny how little I feel about her anymore. I feel no glow of nostalgia for her the way I do about other divas who aged out of relevance (like Cher or Tina Turner or even Dionne Warwick), even though I liked her music back in the day.

I agree with everyone saying her life hasn't been very interesting.

A series would be okay. She could do one for every decade she's been alive. It'll be a twelve episode pick up.

The problem is that Madonna is a wholly unlikable person.

Ain't nobody got time for that.

Even Jennifer Aniston would have a more interesting biopic.

With a $100 million dollar budget + the marketing, the movie would need to make $400 to break even.

Madonna has had a notoriously awful movie career. Even her movies as a director didn’t make a profit.

She’s just unreasonable.

Won’t be that hard to cram “all of her life” into a 2h-film, as it’s just isn’t that interesting. 80% would be all about her 80s and early 90s successes. Then a quick, cursory look at her 2000s.. and the 2010s + beyond won’t even get a mention.

I still love Madonna.

I wanted her to have a Cher moment in the 2010s.

But the biggest problem has been her material. Once she started working with more mainstream producers and “writing camps”, she started making really basic pop music that Miley and Rihanna and Selena Gomez would pass on.

“Hard Candy” was just a female Justin Timberlake album, “MDNA” had about 5 solid songs and horrible filler, “Rebel Heart” was an absolute disaster, and “Madame X” was ambitious but was just a mess.

“Confessions on a Dance Floor” was her last great album and that was almost 20 years ago! So she’s been slacking for 20 years. And for no reason besides being artistically lazy.

She has had some good songs in there that would have been hits had they been performers by Rihanna or Beyoncé like “Crave” and “Ghost Town” but for the most part they’ve been bad.

Madonna’s life has been uninteresting? Huh?

R49 I think the most interesting part of Madonna’s life would be her move to New York City in the late 70s. It’s actually been done to death but that’s because it’s her most interesting.

I’m sure the script she wrote is her victimizing herself and her fight against the patriarchal record companies and media..

A two season, 20 episode series about her life would be amazing.

But she'd have to let it be told warts and all, and she probably can't handle that.

R5 Rebel heart was her only good album from the 2010s. It has some good hits that make it a decent album. I really liked it. The rest were trash.

I particularly hated Hard Candy because after Confessions it was such a slap in the face. Like, how do you go from something by so great to legit trash? Made no sense.

Britney Spears's biopic is going to be a major movie, while Madonna can't get arrested in Hollywood.

Madonna only has herself to blame. Her weird and erratic behavior over the last decade has turned off the general public. Her music still does well, but there's no interest in her personal life because she's not relatable or likable.

Hard Candy had a few decent tracks but it was really the first in a long long line of Madonna albums where I felt that, instead of her riding the forefront of a wave to bring fresh sounds or a new trend, that she was instead running to catch up to what was already on the scene.

(That's giving her a pass for her experiments on American Life and her disco revival sounds on Confessions.)

Interest in her has passed and I can see why she can't get backers. Bedsides doesn't she have the money to produce her own film. For me Truth or Dare is sufficient.

Madonna herself isn't interested in who she really is. Her career consists of a series of her "reinventing" herself.

Why would I be interested in something she's not interested in?

Even the teen girls who were "wanna-bes" are well into their 40s and 50s now and can see Madonna has not evolved as a person.

R64 - Della, that's an interesting take. Yes, she became famous for being a chameleon with hair, style, music - but at the core, we don't know who she is because of it.

And she likes it that way - nobody really knows her. And frankly - her shtick has gotten old. The trying to shock, the outrageous costumes, the comments made to sound outrageous or brave.

I think they'll do a biopic of her about 10 years after she dies - but she's a long way off from that.

I can't think of another celebrity who was so big and is now seen with mild contempt. Maybe Tom Cruise for me - he's another one of that era where we have no idea who he is - it's all an act and mirrors.

No one wants to deal with a cantankerous old Virgo trying to control her narrative. Michael Jackson was the same way and look how that turned out for him. Madge if you don't pack it up and leave what little legacy you have untouched, those skeletons will be found by the new generations.

But even the Mighty Madonna has lost against forces that won't be ignored - Time, Aging, Gravity.

I'm a big fan of Madonna's 2012 Super Bowl Halftime Show. I re-watch it regularly. But that should have been her last performance.

You would think she would have done some sort of charity work or foundation - but nothing that we're aware of.

Yes, she was outspoken about gay rights in the 80's - but she was stealing a lot of ideas from the community as well.

You don't hear anything about her supporting new artists or really doing anything to help others or help their successes. That's a major red flag when you have the influence and money that she had.

Hell, it sounds like most of her family didn't get much from her.

I hope her brood of kids write a Mommy Dearest about her - but she may have already put legal protections in place to guard against that. I could see her doing that - the money they get will be in a trust, but if they defame her, they no longer have access to any of the money and it goes to X instead.

Better believe she's going to do everything she can to control the narrative from the grave.

Look at Snoop Dogg, he's doing it right and making younger fans for a totally different reason than his music. Madge never stops to realize it's time to MOVE ON. The diva schtick and "she's just Madonna" got old long before she was culturally washed up.

I won't watch anything she makes. I never watch biopics. Just no interest at all.

Casting should be cheap. Just get a couple of shop mannequins to play Madonna through her 28 facelifts.

As a millennial, I never clicked with her. She always seemed fake and doing stunts for the sake of it. Always felt like it was someone I was supposed to like cause "Everyone likes Madonna". Vocally she was beat by many artists. Probably had to be a Gen X gay to truly appreciate her.

The aging West is always the best historical analogy to the aging Madonna.

R81 - I'm not surprised you feel that way. In the 80's she was bold and unique and sexually expressive and unapologetic about it. It was a form of feminism - plus she embraced cultures and sounds that weren't mainstream.

And when society was ignoring the AIDS crisis and ignoring gays or bashing us, she stood up for us - and there really weren't that many who did that, except Liz Taylor.

To be honest - even then - some of her music was kind of blah and never appealed, but there are some gems among the garbage.

By the 2000's it was ridiculous - with the gold teeth, cowboy hats and shit. "Music" was her last great album - with What It Feels like for a Girl, Don't Tell Me, etc. I actually liked that the most.

But it's funny - for someone who was constantly evolving - she kind of stopped evolving because she kept doing the same stunt behavior.

Her shtick was always being the bitch who is on top, and once she was no longer on top, she was just a bitch.

As a nasty comment - I feel sorry for her adopted kids. They don't have any family but her - she's mom and dad and everything in one. They have no one else to turn to - and part of me feels like that's by design so she can control them and keep their loyalty.

I doubt these kids can say anything to her - because teenagers will set you straight and don't care about your feelings.

I wouldn't be surprised if she has tapes of old concerts and appearances that she watches non-stop, while opening all of the 'selected' fan letters her assistant gives her to read. One of the best and truest things Boy George ever said was that Madonna wasn't a true revolutionary artist, she just knew how to source and buy the style and trends of now.

For a biopic to work the subject has to be likable in some manner-

I respect Madonnas success and incredible catalogue of great pop and dance music. But she is thoroughly unlikeable.
