Looks pretty good. Starts in March '25
The Studio - Apple TV + starring Seth Rogan and a GAZILLION cameos

Seth Rogan is repulsive.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | November 19, 2024 5:16 PM |
Looks very interesting… Too bad it stars Fozzie Bear (Seth Rogan). Although I loved the show when it aired, most of those Freaks and Geeks actors (Rogan, Segel, Franco, Busy Phillips) in the present time are annoying—except for Linda Cardellini, and maybe Martin Starr.

Trailer, starts March 26th.
Looks funnier than The Franchise, though not by much. Kathryn Hahn as a trashy chola is already cracking me up.

Seth Rogan = NOPE

This goes under the "Tell me you're an eldergay without telling me you're an eldergay category:
I don't know who 2/3 of those people in r4's post are.

I find tv shows and movies about tv shows and movies to be a little pat for me. Also, it just doesn't look very good.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 25, 2025 4:41 PM |
Yeah, that green screen shot with Catherine O'Hara and the palm tree looks pretty naff. I'll still check it out.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 25, 2025 5:16 PM |
Sepinwall loved it, so it's apparently not the outright trash I feared it would be. Still have The Franchise PTSD, probably.
[quote]Like the movie business itself, it’s hit-or-miss. But when it hits — like a season-ending two-parter that serves as a reminder of what an astonishingly good, and game, comic performer Cranston was in his pre-Walter White days — it’s a hilarious reminder of what can happen in that ridiculous town when enough talented people are all working in unison at the top of their game.

Doesn’t the humor come from the premise that this guy has to make endless compromises to his “art” because of moronic actors and studio executives?
And haven’t we been seeing this take on Hollywood since silent films? There is nothing fresh here.
Hard pass.

First two episodes were kinda incredible, I'm loving this already. Had no idea Scorsese could act like this, it's surprising for a non-actor his age. When del Toro cameo'd in Barry, it was a bit clunky. The one-take second episode was great and Greta kissing ass for a private jet was hilarious.

No, he is the studio exec making dumb decisions. And it's meant for a new audience with current references as not everyone is old enough to remember every single take on Hollywood that's been made since the silents.

[quote]The one-take second episode
*Obviously I realise it was done with lots of whip pans, but I loved the meta humour about it in the episode itself.

That first episode was unbearable until Catherine O’Hara showed up.
I love Kathryn Hahn but she was absolutely insufferable. I guess I finally know who Ike Barinholtz is. He was beyond awful as the sidekick. The facial mugging he did in his first scene alone was downright shocking.
What a disappointment.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 26, 2025 4:43 PM |
I thought Ike was the best part and I usually can't stand him. Loved Hahn as well, perfect for a super tuned-in marketing exec or whatever her role is called. Different tastes, I guess.
Didn't really know who Sarah Polley was before this, I just remember her tux from when she won her Oscar. She seems nice.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 26, 2025 4:58 PM |
I loved it and can’t wait for the third episode.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 26, 2025 8:17 PM |
I hated the first episode but the second one was really good. Greta Lee was hilarious.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 27, 2025 4:33 AM |
Yeah, she was great and had my favourite joke of the episode when she said they got so little money for Past Lives from A24, she had to carve out her own boat for the promo tour. Also notice how quickly she blew Rogen off after she got her private jet, lol.
I will say though that she can't smoke convincingly. I've been noticing this more and more with younger actors, i.e. that they just can't smoke properly, they're very awkward around a ciggie. Which, good for them, smoking is very bad for you. But it does mark the end of an era for sure.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 27, 2025 5:04 AM |
Seth Rogaine, can’t stand him!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 27, 2025 5:06 AM |
Episode 3 is apparently with Ron Howard. I hope his repulsive looking/no talent brother Clint isn’t on it, too.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 29, 2025 10:23 PM |
This show isn't nearly as clever as it thinks it is.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 29, 2025 10:32 PM |
Lost interest after first episode - I guess if I worked in the industry it might be more appealing. And Jewish angst has been done to death.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 30, 2025 10:46 AM |
Another piece of bratty, way over-the-top self-indulgence where Hollywood lets us know that they know how vapid and ridiculous they all are. I didn’t laugh once or recognize one actual human being in the first episode. But it will clean up at the next Emmys.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 30, 2025 1:08 PM |
My favourite joke was when Ike said the sets were full of guys in cargo shorts with calf tattoos. I noticed this years ago, it's like it's in the IATSE bylaws that every set needs at least one crew member in cargo shorts with a calf tattoo, lol.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 30, 2025 1:17 PM |
Episode 3 was OK.. And, oh yeah, Kathryn Hahn is back and she’s still unbearable as an insufferabke cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | April 3, 2025 2:52 AM |
Third episode wasn't as funny as the first two, but still had lots of jokes and insightful bits to enjoy.
I'm sorry, I but fucking love Hahn and her character here. The way she's dressed and styled (those two or three LV handbags she's sporting at the same time!), her makeup, and her overlong chola braids that swing around like a weapon... like a teenage influencer. She's trying SO hard to be hip and failing badly. When she said Dave Franco would bring in the female crowd and Anthony Mackie the young hip crowd, I cackled. She's clueless! Although she was spot on with the studio note, along with everyone else.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | April 3, 2025 1:05 PM |
Katherine Hahn is supposed to be Sue Mengers, right? Dyan Cannon did it much better in the Last of Shiela.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | April 3, 2025 1:25 PM |
Maybe, but she's more on the marketing side of things, not really an agent per se.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | April 3, 2025 1:58 PM |
I really loathed Ike Barinholtz in Episode 1 but I genuinely like him now. I’m so confused. Hah. And the latest episode is a lot of fun. Couldn’t we have had the pleasure of seeing Zac Efron in his underwear in his trailer scene, thoygh?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | April 10, 2025 2:28 AM |
I couldn't get into it. Mostly because I lived through it when I was working in LA. A lot of it is insider jokes, does it read outside of the industry?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | April 10, 2025 2:49 AM |
Probably not, R30. A fair amount of in jokes.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | April 10, 2025 9:35 PM |
Holy shit Zac Efron was barely recognizable. He looks like he's made of plastic now.

Even people not in the industry can get the jokes.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | April 10, 2025 10:46 PM |
Reddit loves it and I don't all those people work in L.A. Speaking as an outsider, I'm enjoying it as well, and the inside baseball jokes aren't that esoteric at all. Also, I'm learning something new all the time, like the fact that a film reel going missing from the set is apparently is a really bad thing.

He's so good in this and had my favourite joke this episode when he goes "there she is, bossing people around" as they're walking up to Olivia Wilde directing her crew.
I also laughed at that ancient projectionist saying, against all our expectations, "digital is so much better, you just press a button, with film there's this whole thing..."
Also, Olivia Wilde and Rogen falling down the hill and then just continuing on like normal was hilarious. And then of course Ike getting hit by a car. Love the inclusion of completely unnecessary stunts in almost every episode.

“Heyy! I’m Jewish!! Isn’t that krazy?! And I smoke a lot of pot!! And I’m a Jew! Did I mention I’m a Jew?!
-Everything Seth Rogan has ever done
by Anonymous | reply 35 | April 11, 2025 2:47 PM |
He actually mocks the Jewish producer about that in the very first episode, it's very clear you haven't watched the show.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | April 11, 2025 2:57 PM |
This latest episode was awful. The repetitive Quinn and Sal battling one another scenes were forced and unfunny. And so was that Scott Rudin joke.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | April 16, 2025 2:23 AM |
How many episodes total?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 19, 2025 7:19 PM |
I think 8, R38. Tonight was the 6th one. It was fun, sort of in the style of a Woody Allen comedy.Rebecca Hall was a great guest star.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 23, 2025 3:07 AM |
R39 is a shill. I blocked him and half the thread totally disappeared. Just as I suspected.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 23, 2025 3:32 PM |
The Franchise is funnier.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 23, 2025 9:45 PM |
WTF? How could I be a shill when I trashed another episode of this show a few posts earlier?
R40 needs to up his/her meds.

I just started watching this. I like it a lot so far.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 27, 2025 11:25 PM |
r22, I work in the industry, and I quit maybe 1/2 way in the pilot episode.
